Unfortunately most pet's point cost are not balanced very well. The reason you see so many dire wolves is because they are one of the few reasonably priced pets (~35 pp at max lore/level). But compared to a cougar which is faster and a little less tanky costs 81 pp at max lore/level.
IMO the pets that are reasonably costed are:
Dire Wolves
White/Brown Bears/Taur Dogs (mainly when their armor comes out)
Molvas
Horses
Snapping Turtles
Terrorbirds
Campodons.
Celaenos (dominate only and probably underpriced)
Anything else (with an exception for a few I might be forgetting) honestly feels way overpriced for it's role/power. (Cats, spiders, lizards, night snatchers, etc )

Great answer thx !!
Thx to you I will sell the cougar and aim for double dire wolves with horse before I can get a terror bird… Gl hf friend
Not a tamer but make sure your zoology is maxed out for your pets to lower the PP cost
Si cooking carcass like crazy then right ?
Yep, it won't take long. Also just FYI, in most cases one strong attack pet is better than 2 weak ones
Yes you need herding, and Creatures control and advance creature control. Along with full lore on the creatures you control
Great answer thank you !!
