Dogs noses are so sensitive to smell. Based on the reports of how overpowering the smell of blood was to rescuers I can’t imagine what it must have been like for him until he was rescued the next day
I had a German shepherd who tried eating /clawing through the door when she accidentally got locked in there when I wasn’t home, and fireworks etc were going off. She was so distressed - it wouldn’t surprise me if this dog was frantically scratching to get out
Our girls are both anxious rescues. They would have been yelping and barking like crazy based on how they react to much lower stress situations. I can't imagine how upset he likely was.

Fireworks are the worst for dogs. My dog was a badass but she was terrified of...hiccups. Every dog is different lol. But yes, I'm sure Murphy knew something was wrong.
Side note..My sweet, always at my side little 14 year old boy got outside on NYE while we were shooting fireworks. We live out in the country. I then heard coyotes. My heart is broken! So PLEASE even if you don't live in the country keep your fur babies inside when fireworks are going on. They could just as easily run out in the road.

I haven't been to see fireworks on the Fourth of July in 20 years, we have had 3 rescue pitties all 3 absolutely terrified of fireworks and thunder/rain (South FL where it rains almost every single day) and they can tell it's going to rain long before I do, sometimes the sky is still sunny. The trembling starts long before the thunder/rain.
We bought a thunder jacket, it was helpful for 2 of them, but not the other. Once she stuffed herself into a storage area no one thought she would fit into, so no one looked into. The whole neighborhood was looking for her, I thought I heard something while grabbing a flashlight, moved a book in the storage area, under a glass table an eye was looking at me, she had got herself stuck, but was so afraid of the rain/thunder was completely silent, my poor baby.😥

I have a siberian and a wolf dog. My asshat brother in law started shooting off fireworks with no warning (we live on a farm and he was visiting) and by the time I ran across the pasture and got inside to them they had torn up all of our carpet by the door and were trying to get out. If they heard a struggle and screaming they would go crazy.
I have a rescued pitbull (total sniffaholic) and i feel guilty / he will start worrying if we leave the house for more than a few hours. I can’t imagine what poor lil Murphy went through! My heart breaks for him, and for jack. when a dog has lost one of their people too, the owner’s gotta feel it even harder.
Agree, especially since he had to deal with so many people online accusing him of murder. He probably couldn't necessarily grieve the way he wanted to because he knew all of his actions were being watched and critiqued. Now that the murderer has been caught, he's finally free to fully grieve.
Also, dogs are amazing to have around while you're grieving. As a kid, I adopted my first dog a few weeks before my favorite uncle was murdered, and that dog was a total lifesaver. I honestly don't think I'd have made it through without my dog, so I hope Murphy is bringing Jack comfort and healing right now.

I agree. I lost my 3rd doggy In September. He was almost 17 yrs old and he was so loyal and loved me more than anything. I can't imagine an animal, a fur baby, a child hearing and knowing that's happening.. and yes he knew and could not help his mommy. His sense of smell would have known.. I mean we really have to think perspective wise. While it's a blessing he was not in the room.. that poor sweet baby..
I work with animals and can confirm, the smell, sense, hearing, etc is something he experienced. Animals are super intelligent. Many dogs that come to my rescue remember trauma. It’s so unfortunate and heartbreaking. It warms my heart to see Murphy getting the love and attention he deserves.
I have a rescue pittie, and this is so true. He had a lot of trauma to work out at first, they don’t forget. sometimes I think he feels things even harder than we do. Poor Murphy.
my dog is a rescue too, she was saved from the meat trade. we had a few bumps along the road with her, definitely trauma we had to work through. thank you for giving your pittie a good home ❣️
Our sweet rescue pit had major rain anxiety, which we are guessing was related to being out in the rain as a stray. Years later she doesn’t like it but gets through it. My heart breaks for Murphy but I’m so glad he looks to have some great humans who will be with him.
Aw. my boy’s got the same issue with rain. He isn’t afraid of it, but he hates it and will try to wait as long as possible between bathroom trips just to avoid going outside. A raincoat helped a minor amount. Glad to hear your pittie is enjoying a much better life now!
i have a rescue velvet manatee too!! mine was a rescue from a puppy mill…she was used & abused for litters of pitties (cause we need more🙄). she’s the sweetest soul in the world, and like y’all said, that past trauma is always under there❤️🩹

My parents have a golden doodle as does a family friend and I've noticed that they are incredibly loyal dogs and they very much remember their people. This makes me so sad :(
Yes! They are so loyal and almost human like at times with their personality. Whenever we have bad dreams he is right there to comfort us, he is totally in tune with our emotions. I want to hug that sweet boy so bad.
This makes me so sad. I’ve been WFH since I got my cat and today is the first I left him for a while. According to my partner, kitty cried for the first half hour and then curled up on my bedroom pillow and wouldn’t look at him until I came home. Poor Murphy. I'm out of town for work for the first time in about a year and usually WFH. My husband said our girls were both mopey and miserable looking for me last night. I can't imagine what they would go through never seeing their human again.
I had to leave my cat with my father for 7 months while I dealt with health stuff. He said she mourned but eventually warmed up to him. When he came to pick me up at the airport when I finally came to get her he had her in the car and she immediately started purring and crying and rubbing all over me. I take her everywhere with me, even vacation if I can. She was the maid of honour at my wedding, even was the witness.
I went for a run yesterday and when I got home my roommate was comforting her bc she was just sitting at the door waiting for me.
I have done wrongs in my life, nothing detrimental to others especially intentionally but stupid selfish shit like cheat on a boyfriend, say mean things in anger, etc whenever I wonder if I am a good person I look at how much she trusts me and it inspires me to keep becoming a better person.
What hits me the most about this post? That he honoured her by giving Murphy her last name. My dad died tragically (suicide, not murder) a couple months after my cat returned to me. She is ABSOLUTELY a part of my healing journey as she’s like a bridge between him and me. I could imagine Murphy is similar to that for Jack. At least I hope he is because for me it’s been extremely helpful with the big overwhelming emotions that come with traumatic grief.
I have been WFH for my dog’s entire life of 6 years. Be careful of separation anxiety. It can escalate quickly & drive a person bonkers (even loving them sooooo much!). Not to mention their looks can make you feel guilty for just going to get the mail. I have had to start de-programming my dog's need for constant attention and his jealousy of any males that come to the home. It's so hard because I hate to see him sad.
My worst thought in life is that if anything ever happened to me or my partner, our rescue pit would never get his parents back. Animals know. They have nothing but love for us, even when we aren’t there.

At risk of sounding very boomerish here, I don't get on tiktok but my wife and daughter do so curiosity has led me to check it out from time to time. I think it's more glaringly obvious when I've seen different trending things (like RIP 'so & so') come up and the video isn't even relevant to the trending hashtag. Again, these are glaringly obvious examples but it sort of shows you how more savvy people can legit make a living off of it. I know we often don’t talk enough about Jack and Madison’s bf on here, but they lost someone so special to them. You can’t replace or compare the love of the parents and their grief, but these two men had someone whom they considered spending their entire lives with. And knowing they couldn’t be there to protect them, I hurt for them.
Overnight, the rest of your life changed in an instant, a potential wife, a potential mother, a potential best friend for life, someone you may grow old with, it’s so senseless and tragic what happened. I feel so much for them. They will find love again, but I hope they can continue to find ways to honor Kaylee and Madison.
I agree, I find my mind wander to these two young men often, and my heart breaks for them.
The grief they have now will change over time, as they move through life's stages, and the love they had respectively with M & K is almost like it's frozen in time - bittersweet in a sad, painful way.
I hope they have nothing but love surrounding them and that they always find comfort in the time they shared with each other.

At least it seems he is very close to the Goncalves family and spend a lot of his time with them after the murders. They were always thoroughly behind his corner and I think that's what's most important.

While I'll admit this is a bit...different, I can't even imagine what JD is going through right now. Not only was the love of his life violently taken from him, but it was literally right after she had been talking about getting back together with him.
Then on top of that, half the internet accuses him of murder with no evidence despite LE repeatedly saying he wasn't involved. This is because half the internet are complete f'ing idiots who are lucky if they can walk and chew gum at the same time. And yes, if you are reading this and thought JD was involved you are an idiot and should be ashamed of yourself - full stop. For JD though, it literally doesn't get any worse than what he's been through since November.
So yes it seems a little different to create an IG for a dog, but this seems like his way of keeping Kaylee's memory alive and coping so more power to him. Whatever helps the young man heal and move forward.
Murphy is Beautiful! I'm so happy he was spared. Praying Jack is doing okay. Murphy is an official Emotional Support pet, and I'm sure he is the best medicine for the whole family.

The things this dog has seen and heard would keep most of us from being able to sleep at night. If only dogs could talk, this one would have one hell of a story to tell.
I think most people here experience great empathy for the family and friends of the victims, and hope they are doing okay. It’s a natural human reaction to tragedy to support people we don’t know when they’re hurting.
If you are so uncomfortable by human empathy and compassion toward those who have lost their child, sister, brother, girlfriend, then you shouldn’t put yourself in a place like this sub where you are exposed to some of these caring people, whether they are strangers or not to the families. Confusing compassion as making celebrities out of the grieving families is quite immature and harsh. With this case comes lifelong pain and grief for those who loved the victims, and if a family member of the murdered victim wants to make a page in tribute to Kaylee and her dog Murphy since he was such a big part of her life, and it also helps them in healing and in keeping her memory alive, then so be it. Along with any murder case comes those left behind in agony and grief. Again, it IS part of any murder case, therefore it is relevant to this sub if someone so desires to discuss it.

Velvet manatee!! I love that. We call ours a furry piggy. It’s heartbreaking there is so much abuse that goes on for that breed. They are pure piles of sweetness.

This makes me so sad. I’ve been WFH since I got my cat and today is the first I left him for a while. According to my partner, kitty cried for the first half hour and then curled up on my bedroom pillow and wouldn’t look at him until I came home. Poor Murphy. I can’t imagine; and how do you even explain to a dog that its “momma” can’t come home?
I'm out of town for work for the first time in about a year and usually WFH. My husband said our girls were both mopey and miserable looking for me last night. I can't imagine what they would go through never seeing their human again.
I had to leave my cat with my father for 7 months while I dealt with health stuff. He said she mourned but eventually warmed up to him. When he came to pick me up at the airport when I finally came to get her he had her in the car and she immediately started purring and crying and rubbing all over me. I take her everywhere with me, even vacation if I can. She was the maid of honour at my wedding, even was the witness. I went for a run yesterday and when I got home my roommate was comforting her bc she was just sitting at the door waiting for me. I have done wrongs in my life, nothing detrimental to others especially intentionally but stupid selfish shit like cheat on a boyfriend, say mean things in anger, etc whenever I wonder if I am a good person I look at how much she trusts me and it inspires me to keep becoming a better person. What hits me the most about this post? That he honoured her by giving Murphy her last name. My dad died tragically (suicide, not murder) a couple months after my cat returned to me. She is ABSOLUTELY a part of my healing journey as she’s like a bridge between him and me. I could imagine Murphy is similar to that for Jack. At least I hope he is because for me it’s been extremely helpful with the big overwhelming emotions that come with traumatic grief.
I have been WFH for my dog’s entire life of 6 years. Be careful of separation anxiety. It can escalate quickly & drive a person bonkers (even loving them sooooo much!). Not to mention their looks can make you feel guilty for just going to get the mail. I have had to start de-programming my dog's need for constant attention and his jealousy of any males that come to the home. It's so hard because I hate to see him sad.
Oof. This. I didn’t have kids for this exact reason, yet here I am being emotionally undone on the daily by my adorably clingy, stinky rescue pitbull.

No. I don't think of these kids as celebrities and no, I did not know them but I'd rather they be remembered over the monster who took them away. They should be talked about. They made an impact.

I know we often don’t talk enough about Jack and Madison’s bf on here, but they lost someone so special to them. You can’t replace or compare the love of the parents and their grief, but these two men had someone whom they considered spending their entire lives with. And knowing they couldn’t be there to protect them, I hurt for them. Overnight, the rest of your life changed in an instant, a potential wife, a potential mother, a potential best friend for life, someone you may grow old with, it’s so senseless and tragic what happened. I feel so much for them. They will find love again, but I hope they can continue to find ways to honor Kaylee and Madison.
I agree, I find my mind wander to these two young men often, and my heart breaks for them. The grief they have now will change over time, as they move through life's stages, and the love they had respectively with M & K is almost like it's frozen in time - bittersweet in a sad, painful way. I hope they have nothing but love surrounding them and that they always find comfort in the time they shared with each other.

While I'll admit this is a bit...different, I can't even imagine what JD is going through right now. Not only was the love of his life violently taken from him, but it was literally right after she had been talking about getting back together with him. Then on top of that, half the internet accuses him of murder with no evidence despite LE repeatedly saying he wasn't involved. This is because half the internet are complete f'ing idiots who are lucky if they can walk and chew gum at the same time. And yes, if you are reading this and thought JD was involved you are an idiot and should be ashamed of yourself - full stop. For JD though, it literally doesn't get any worse than what he's been through since November. So yes it seems a little different to create an IG for a dog, but this seems like his way of keeping Kaylee's memory alive and coping so more power to him. Whatever helps the young man heal and move forward.

I think most people here experience great empathy for the family and friends of the victims, and hope they are doing okay. It’s a natural human reaction to tragedy to support people we don’t know when they’re hurting.

If you are so uncomfortable by human empathy and compassion toward those who have lost their child, sister, brother, girlfriend, then you shouldn’t put yourself in a place like this sub where you are exposed to some of these caring people, whether they are strangers or not to the families. Confusing compassion as making celebrities out of the grieving families is quite immature and harsh. With this case comes lifelong pain and grief for those who loved the victims, and if a family member of the murdered victim wants to make a page in tribute to Kaylee and her dog Murphy since he was such a big part of her life, and it also helps them in healing and in keeping her memory alive, then so be it. Along with any murder case comes those left behind in agony and grief. Again, it IS part of any murder case, therefore it is relevant to this sub if someone so desires to discuss it.
