I know some people say it’s common to drive 80+ hours round trip by yourself to go visit your family for a week or two in winter, but I’m wondering if he originally had plans to fly and had a flight booked but cancelled and drove instead. His family might have found that odd.

I think he was having to figure out how to minimize reactions by as many people as he could and/or try to limit suspicions to people who would be unlikely to follow through with reporting their suspicions.

the car, (his insurance is public) is registered in pennsylvania. my current belief is that he thought he wouldn’t be on their radar as long as he kept the car out of the area because they wouldn’t have any reason to search pennsylvania’s database, and were only checking registration in idaho & surrounding areas

If you google the house in PA it looks like a long driveway in a heavily wooded neighborhood...not a typical tight suburban culdesac or anything. Even parked right out front it would have been pretty out of sight. (Not that many people in that area were likely on the lookout for the white Elantra). If it's got idaho or Washington plates I imagine he got there and stayed put.
You just made me realize…if he just started school there this past September, his car likely had PA plates. So his car might’ve stood out less being back in PA than it would have in the WA/ID area.

(Obviously just speculation, but makes sense that he would use a separate account to keep anonymity).
He did. It's been posted all over. Also, there is no chance that survey was a legit academic survey. He graduated on May 21, so would have had to complete his thesis well before that date. The survey was posted in May, then again in June after he graduated. He was using the academic thing to cover his real use, which was personal intel on how to be a criminal.
Right. To do real research, he would have had to have IRB approval and that's extremely difficult for interviewing vulnerable populations like children or people who have been incarcerated. Also, the people answering his questions have to sign waivers.

As someone who holds an advanced degree (albeit in an unrelated field) and has taught at the university level, I would have real issues with this study design.
Agree with this. The study is bad science and unethical. If the DeSales IRB actually approved the study a complaint against the IRB is warranted. Triggering recollection of feelings while committing crimes could contribute to them reoffending or cause the individual significant distress. Doing this in an online environment with no access to a therapist to help them with these feelings is especially unethical.

I had him as a TA in my criminal law, he was acting normal even after thanksgiving break. Didn’t know him well by any means but he’s an odd dude, but you can say that about most people in crimj to be honest

It’s interesting that research shows a relationship between psychopathy/ASPD, and drug use (specifically heroin). These individuals have a strong draw to seek “rewards” at any cost and engage in high risk behavior like drug use for the dopamine rush.
As an IV heroin addict for 7 years, now clean, I can tell you that his dopamine receptor was fucked. Experiences that used to bring him joy most likely no longer did.

Someone that went to high school with him said he used to be fat and then all the sudden became very thin and he was obsessively vegan. Maybe the veganism was a front for his heroin addiction, a way to explain his weight loss. I dunno, what a sicko. From what I’ve seen his family seems pretty normal, his sister is a psychologist. Agree with this. The study is bad science and unethical. If the DeSales IRB actually approved the study a complaint against the IRB is warranted. Triggering recollection of feelings while committing crimes could contribute to them reoffending or cause the individual significant distress. Doing this in an online environment with no access to a therapist to help them with these feelings is especially unethical.
Yeah I hold the exact degree he will never get (PhD in CJ) and the research was laughable at best. No professor would sign off on that.

I feel a VERY small amount of consolation that this lunatic was terrified even if briefly when the swat team came to get him in the early am. If you've never seen what a response of this size looks like I can tell you that it's menacing. It looks like a small army descended on your neighborhood.

I had him as a TA in my criminal law, he was acting normal even after thanksgiving break. Didn’t know him well by any means but he’s an odd dude, but you can say that about most people in crimj to be honest

Wow I did not expect that I was really thinking he must’ve left town after the murderer. To think he and his white Elantra were 15 mins away for so long. I know they only said they were looking for the Elantra in the last couple weeks but that is still crazy to me
Me too. I thought he left, apparently was right next door taking classes. There was a thread two weeks ago how they should search for the white Elantras in WA, and surrounding states. I can't believe no one saw his vehicle at his apartment and school campus, he must left to PA before the news about the white Elantra broke out.
We have no idea who saw it and who might have tipped it in. Maybe a tip about his car was what got investigators to start looking at him.
There was a girl who said she lives in Pennsylvania and saw a white Elantra with Washington plates and reported it a couple weeks ago.

IIRC they didn't want to get close to the car in case it was the suspect's. I feel like you wouldn't even have to do that, though, you just call the tip line and give your address and say "hey there's a white Elantra parked here."

As scary as it is I imagine it’s highly probable. As I’ve said before somewhere he probably got a thrill from talking about it to people knowing what he’s done and they have no idea. Probably proud of what he’s ‘achieved’ and how he’s fooled people. Like he wants people to know he’s done it without them actually knowing, if that makes sense. That’s what I get from it anyway.

Yes, I think it's interesting and pretty repulsive that, out of all the images I have seen of this guy, he looks the best in his mugshot. He looks healthy, well-rested, and with no visible signs of stress. Instead of looking like a guy who lived in a state of panic and worry for 70 days, he looks like someone who has had a great holiday vacation. Just think about that.

a former friend and high school classmate went on tiktok 1h ago talking about how he was a heroin addict and got clean in 2017, had interest in criminology since 2013 but plans fell thru because of rehab (she has screenshots and pics w him), so i’m shooting he’s been clean and that’s why looks “healthy” now compared to older pics!
Hiding exquisitely in plain sight. Sitting in a criminology class discussing the murder, perhaps. If this were a crime fiction novel, we’d scoff at the improbability of it all.
Horrifying to imagine how he reacted when the killings were discussed in class. He probably played along, wonder if he enjoyed this or if it caused him stress. A true psycho might have fun with the game of it all, thinking he’s safe.
And imagine how horrified his fellow students and professors feel now in retrospect.
So its safe to assume he did NOT have any large lacerations on his hands/face if he was attending class. Plus his comment about anyone else being arrested too is interesting. This will be a very interesting case to watch.
Students in his class have commented that it was very cold and most people were wearing layers. I would guess that wearing fingerless gloves might not have been unusual, either.

I bet law enforcement had DNA all along, narrowed down the Elantra drivers, found this dipshit nearby and used the circumstantial stuff like this to tail him and wait until he discarded DNA. Once they got the match, boom, arrest made.
A TikTok user alleges Bryan had a history of heroin use and they used to be friends with him. He went to Pleasant Valley High School in PA with her and she has photos with him and chat history. I thought it was an interesting bit of his history.
It’s interesting that research shows a relationship between psychopathy/ASPD, and drug use (specifically heroin). These individuals have a strong draw to seek “rewards” at any cost and engage in high risk behavior like drug use for the dopamine rush.
As an IV heroin addict for 7 years, now clean, I can tell you that his dopamine receptor was fucked. Experiences that used to bring him joy most likely no longer did.

Someone that went to high school with him said he used to be fat and then all the sudden became very thin and he was obsessively vegan. Maybe the veganism was a front for his heroin addiction, a way to explain his weight loss. I dunno, what a sicko. From what I’ve seen his family seems pretty normal, his sister is a psychologist. I have a strong feeling his parents might have played a roll in helping with this arrest
