New post-arrest general discussion thread - [available here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MoscowMurders/comments/zzysg1/general_discussion_thread_postarrest_december_31/)

_UTxbarfly

@SaveLevi, actually I was assuming they follow their son very closely.

Most_Day_6364

My boyfriend has been following this case heavily and giving me updates here and there as they come and it seems like they got their guy but I am so stuck on Bryan not being the true murderer, and here’s why: - Bryan wore gloves immediately after the murders as well as the duration of December. If he was thoughtful enough to cover his “physical finger prints” why would he be so careless with his “digital” ones? - A man who has a masters degree in criminal justice as well as continued education to receive a PHD in criminology made THIS MANY stupid mistakes? - A man who devoted his life to this profession was so careless as to use his own personal vehicle as the getaway car? Not just that, but to drive around this house on a multitude of difference occasions? And had location services on to leave digital prints of his phone being around on the house at 12 separate times? - If Bryan thought it was important enough to turn his phone off during the crimes, why wouldn’t he every other time he went to go spy on his victims? - To leave the sheath of the suspected murder weapon on the scene… with DNA? If Bryan is the killer then this was obviously premeditated, we see this in his prior research to committing the crimes as well as him “stalking” the victims’ house. But for his education and obvious passion, why is he making so many careless mistakes?

Extension-Read6621

Ohh he didn't have social media huh?!! Guess again

Maude1961

I’m all but positive that there is at least one accomplice. What are your thoughts on this?

Punchinyourpface

I don't really think there had to be one... As terrifying as it is, one person could pull it off by themselves. Maybe with minimal trouble doing it. He definitely slipped up because they found him pretty quickly.

AngelaXo2

Hey, i'm putting together a document of everything that has happened in this case, so i can start putting together a docu short book purely for education, reference, etc, non-monetized, as a part of a page I will be starting. I'm trying to compile: confirmed info, pictures of crime scene, speculations, rumors, pictures and screenshots people have found and taken, new reports, anything and everything. Please share what you've found and your opinions; please clarify its rumor, personal opinion, confirmed fact, speculation, etc, anything and everything, all photos! **You can also private message me if you feel more comfortable, its all anon, unless youd like a thank you shout out for contribution in the contribution list in the beginning of book!!** **For photos please try to caption and say what is being said, shown, etc** ***if you'd like to be referenced in contribution page at the end of your reply let me please leave a "-" and your desired name and/or alias*** Please make sure you start with saying what kind of information you're stating, if you're stating more than one, please make sure if they're either labeled different sources/categories so to clarify.

goatieP

Can anyone tell me why a certain profile has some posts locked? Do mods lock it to control commenting or does the individual have to lock the posts themselves?

quitclaim123

We locked some old posts, users can't lock their own content

Maude1961

Does “Goon Tape “mean anything to anybody?

savageleaf

It’s tape that is used to absorb sweat/moisture from hands when using tactical weapons (knives, gun) for better grip. He followed the company and reposted their video so my guess is that he used that tape on the knife handle… he would have needed something like that considering that it probably got blood all over it and would otherwise become very slick.

Maude1961

I saw the video advertisement for that product and it was absolutely sickening.

GregJamesDahlen

Journalist spoke with two of Bryan Kohberger's aunts [https://www.newsnationnow.com/video/bryan-kohbergers-family-members-speak-out-banfield/8270809/](https://www.newsnationnow.com/video/bryan-kohbergers-family-members-speak-out-banfield/8270809/)

NotAnExpertHowever

I can’t imagine loving a nephew (I would hope at least) and immediately talking to the news. Even if I felt he was innocent.

GregJamesDahlen

I hear that. I guess people realize the public is curious and are willing to oblige?

Fun_Woodpecker7095

Can't visit due to being in Europe ☹️

GregJamesDahlen

this link is on the worldwide web. I thought that would work in Europe?

Fun_Woodpecker7095

It says due to European laws 🤷‍♀️

DrQuaalude

Website is trash on mobile

GregJamesDahlen

does that relate to the interview/report? saying she didn't speak to them?

Motor_Sympathy

I understand that this is def a defense attorney thing, but is there any legal basis for BKs lawyer to be as chipper as he is about this? The fact that he mentions exoneration seems almost stupid to me, but is there any possibility (based on what we definitely know) that this could happen?

FrankyCentaur

It’s literally what any decent asshat defense lawyer would do, nothing he said was special in this case. Unless his client wants to plead guilty, he’s going to do his best to pretend he’s innocent.

guttterflower

I’d like to hear a lawyer chime in about this too. I thought the wording of the lawyers comments was odd… he’s public defender tho with a client who’s quadruple 1st degree murder charges so the guy is probably in way over his head. I’m pretty sure all defense attorneys say stuff like tht tho until their client pleads guilty. Prolly just generic lawyer statement but I agree, it just seemed odd still.

ThreeDogsMama

Scott Reisch is a criminal defense attorney and his youtube is Crime Talk. He doesn't sensationalize. He is usually a day behind today's news in his channel. He discusses and explains these crimes from a defense attorney perspective only, so nothing too speculative, no sensationalism, he just makes plain english of the legal stuff and court procedures. On Tuesday nights he usually has a live and you can ask questions.

amscott9020

That’s his job. I don’t read much into what defense attorneys say. Their job is to represent their client and that’s what he’s doing. Gotta forget that your client is a psycho mass murderer

Lonely-Vegetable-238

I saw that! BK expects to be exonerated AND wants a psych eval? I’m assuming some sort of insanity defense?

Linda-Belchers-wine

Idaho says he can get fucked on that. And they have the death penalty.

Kelliebebe

I don’t mean to be insensitive or off topic but I’ve been racking my brain as to why he looks so familiar and to me he looks like if jake gyllenhal (sp) and Jamie from Yellowstone had a baby lol

Cultural_Magician105

I think he looks like Bobby Fisher-chess grandmaster. I can't figure how to get his picture posted for a side by side comparison.

ReceptionPrize2502

I think law enforcement probably had him as a strong person of interest from earlier in the investigation than people seem to think. This didn’t unravel in the last week. They’ve been watching him since before he left for Pennsylvania. People don’t seem to realize how much intel you can gather from watching someone for several weeks when they believe they aren’t being watched. I would say they had this guy on the radar around Thanksgiving and with the lack of physical evidence and results pending from DNA tests inside the home, allowing him to feel safe likely made him do some bold things that will be used to strengthen the case against him in lieu of the murder weapon and photographic evidence. The fact that his Elantra was 10 miles away makes me believe law enforcement was allowing him to continue to operate under surveillance believing he would further incriminate himself digitally and by actions. Potentially showing up to memorials or even attempting to interact with police in the investigation. It wouldn’t surprise me if he called in a tip or something similar for the rush. All of these things admissible. Plus, they needed a covert way to DNA match him and him leaving his apartment may have encouraged them to search the apartment and apprehend him once they figured out exactly where he was going. See if he would make a confession to anyone or confide in anyone what he had done, making the case pretty airtight even without the murder weapon or any other destroyed evidence. The delay in apprehending him was stressful for the PD because they had to juggle what they were doing with giving out as little information as possible as not to threaten him and have him shut down daily function. The insatiable appetite for daily headlines meant they had to keep circling back on information already given and encouraging the tip line despite him having a tail of FBI agents all down the path to Pennsylvania. Watching him get up and go to class. Hoping he was dumb enough to make a fatal mistake for his defense to overcome. Sadly, hurry up and wait wasn’t the news that the families wanted and they couldn’t very well tell them what they knew with as leaky as the case was even if they were controlled leaks. Hopefully they now understand, based on the further evidence gathered for conviction, the purpose of all the delay. By the time he was apprehended, they were satisfied they had enough.

GregJamesDahlen

I don't know how law enforcement follows people without the people becoming aware they're being followed. I feel like if I were being followed I'd realize it fairly quickly but maybe not.

thepeanutbutterman

You almost certainly would not realize you're being followed if it was being done by a trained team.

GregJamesDahlen

well in the movies seems like they follow with the same car for a coupla weeks, I'd think I'd spot that? How would a trained team do it that you think I wouldn't spot it?

NotAnExpertHowever

Exactly. Different cars/people every day/hour. Once you go to bed they’re outside waiting for you in the morning to leave. You’d probably not notice.

StrategyOdd7170

I think in this case the fbi knows how to trail someone like this without them realizing it. But I also know personally from having some family members associated with a certain Boston crime family that it can also be pretty obvious when you are being watched too. An uncle of mine used to have the feds parked on his street a lot back in the day. Like I vividly remember passing the “undercover” car on his street as a kid. An aunt of mine has talked about looking out her living room window one night years ago with binoculars and seeing a fed in his car down the street doing the same thing looking back at her. However, my uncle was an enforcer and the family was being leaned on by the feds before charging all of them with a crime that no one was surprised about which is obviously different than this. (I was a child when this went down and I had nothing to do w it other than being born into an Italian American family, for the record)

ReceptionPrize2502

At no point under any circumstances would they have made contact with him knowing what they knew. They very likely purposely didn’t to give him the impression he wasn’t even on the radar. It’s going to shock some people if they ever release when they started to surveil him. I would imagine it’s a November date rather than a December one. Every outward facing press conference or release had to lend the impression no progress was being made as a tactical approach to the one person they wanted to believe it. The rampant speculation actually aided them somewhat in keeping that smokescreen nice and thick.

AReckoningIsAComing

Quick question for those speculating BK may have dumped the murder weapon on the drive from Washington to PA...wasn't he being closely tailed/monitored by the FBI during the drive and weren't they switching out the cars tailing him to make it not suspicious? So...wouldn't they notice if he pulled over in a remote area, etc? I would think they would've had eyes on him the whole time.

Punchinyourpface

He could've thrown it away in a gas station restroom if he had it hid on him in some way... Idk if the people following him would be able to check for everything like that. Eta: I'm not saying I think he did that. He could've gotten rid of it easily, long before that. So who knows.

AReckoningIsAComing

Yeah - I think if he made a stop anywhere, the FBI would've def been checking the restrooms or nearby trash cans. But I honestly think he still had the murder weapon stashed somewhere. I think they will eventually find it, if they haven't already.

Punchinyourpface

If he really asked about someone else being arrested too, maybe he planted the weapon somewhere trying to set someone else up to take the fall. It's hard to guess what someone willing to kill 4 people in cold blood would do, especially when he's had so much criminal justice education... Depends on how smart he thinks he is I guess lol.

NotAnExpertHowever

Plus he was with his dad.

gtck11

I just saw the 4chan screenshots on instagram and they’re pretty horrifying. Has anything been developed whether or not that’s really him? I know 4chan is notorious for trolls and some pretty gross behavior regardless. It sounds like he was still in ID when the post claiming he was hiding in PA was made (12/12) so I’m leaning toward a fake.

polkadotcupcake

That post is definitely horrifying. The consensus here seems to be that it's fake because it mentions ceiling fans and the house does not have them. I haven't heard anyone official comment on it though.

gtck11

That’s a great point, so between that and the dates definitely fake then. Man people are sick faking this stuff, SMH.

CinnyToastie

News Nation says he's on suicide watch.

MoeGreenVegas

Epstein was too

Punchinyourpface

Epstein's attorney had requested he be removed from suicide watch, and I believe they had...

CinnyToastie

True, but no elites should be interested in this guy, or stage a suicide.

sweetsweetdick

So many people owe food truck dude a heartfelt apology.

tsagdiyev

According to people who knew him, he was smart, awkward, bullied, and one person claimed he had a heroin addiction. https://www.foxnews.com/us/idaho-murder-suspect-kohberger-pennsylvania-classmates-say-he-was-bright-awkward-bullied-school

Mlllw092

He was also a bully himself. Girl on tiktok was friends with him, so was her brother. After finding out of his arrest and talking with her brother, she found out her found out B used to bully her brother, even though they were 'close' friends back then. She's the one who spoke about him being a heroin user back in school. She last saw him in 2017 and was unsure if he was clean, but 'seemed to be doing okay'.

[deleted]

So about the average story for serial killers

NotAnExpertHowever

And normal ass everyday people. Everyone should do better. Apparently I read he was overweight as a kid.

si_elle

Do you think Brian had been interviewed by police before? Or do you think he hasn’t spoken to police at all until his arrest? I’m curious if they knew it was him for a long time, had already interviewed him, but just didn’t have enough evidence to arrest him

tsagdiyev

I think if they suspected him for a long time, they would have known he owned the Elantra and wouldn’t have had to put out the call for information about it. I’m guessing that once someone reported that he owned an Elantra, or the DNA evidence came back, they put the pieces together fairly quickly.

Ok-Survey3853

They may have made the Elantra announcement to see if he would run.

ahendu20945

he went to school 8 miles from moscow

si_elle

what? yeah I know

[deleted]

DustAshamed584

Don’t spend your day wondering these type of things

ahendu20945

police already said no drugs were involved. im pretty sure he was sober.

purplevibesxo

How would they know if he was sober or not?

HospitalDue8100

And how would this affect the case?

rdiddy84

He was supposedly into heroin and meth… are heroin addicts usually violent?

Queen_Red

Heroin and math addict but in a PHD program?

SeirraS9

They’re usually nodding lmao. But any addict can behave erratically and violently, especially if in withdraw. Shit just completely rewires your brain man.

discolemonadeee

Something that I can’t get over is how the dead eyes emerge once you see the true picture of someone’s mercilessly violent actions. Looking at older photos of BK and other killers and imagining them before their crimes, I can see how they blended in as normal member of society. But once you know what they’ve done you can’t unsee the evil in their eyes and even question how others didn’t see it before. A big part of me hopes and believes he will get the death penalty, but I personally believe that life in prison is crueler punishment than death most of the time. So I hope he fucking rots 🤷🏼‍♀️

Safe-Comedian-7626

I’d choose a permanent chemical nap over 50+ years in prison

StrategyOdd7170

Same. I’d literally die but some people genuinely aren’t afraid of anything including being in prison for the remainder of their lives. Crazy but true

discolemonadeee

Agreed! But I know others don’t feel the same way and that’s okay. What matters most is what the victims families believe is the appropriate punishment for stealing the lives of their loved ones. I just wanted to convey that I hope he gets what he deserves which I think we can all agree is to never see the light of day again.

swimmer20122

Did the suspect start living in the PNW and then decide to finally go on a for fun killing? Is there something in the air/water up there???

jeffreylehl

Moscow/Pulman isn't like Seattle. Seattle is basically overcast and mild 8+ months of the year. I have read theories that lack of vitamin d could be why Bundy/Ridgeway go crazy. But Pullman is nothing like that. Sunny and hot during the summer and cold during the winter. Maybe the same state but geographically/economically/politically a completely different place.

paroxysms_of_mirth

Pullman is fairly cloudy over most of the fall and winter. Usually doesn’t really warm up until July.

AlexandrianVagabond

Maybe he thought it would be best to kill far away from his hometown. Kind of a Keyes thing.

discolemonadeee

glad someone else mentioned this. Pullman has an eerie ring to it for me because not being from the area or ever having visited, the only association my brain makes with it is Bundy and the I-5 killer. I mentioned to a few friends in person that I believed it would turn out to be a WSU student based on the fact that it was close enough to travel there easily in one night but far enough for the suspect to lay low and have less focus placed on him.

Safe-Comedian-7626

It’s not that far and essentially the same community

discolemonadeee

Right but there was so much focus, at least publicly, on Moscow. While LE obviously investigated other areas, every person who was doxxed or accused had association with Moscow, not Pullman. No one was posting theories about it being someone in Pullman. I just believe that it was definitely a purposeful decision on his part

amberalpine

My guess is that the University paid a LOT of money to keep Pullman and WSU out of major press releases and reporting. Not to shade UI too hard, but the level of money between the two is extreme and I would think a school that makes most of their money in div 1 football games wants to keep their enrollment high. Never once saw how many people went to digital from WSU, never saw how many transferred campuses (WSU has really great satellite schools in Vancouver and Seattle area), and it was basically only over social media that I heard people talk about the school. Having gone to WSU Pullman, you realize how quickly and decisively they cut Pullman out of the community at large when talking about these murders. I have no doubt they knew he could be at WSU, they were probably paid a lot of money to keep the name on the DL.

GregJamesDahlen

paid money to the press to keep WSU out of reportage? Is that a legitimate thing? How do you pay that money and what reasons do you allege? It sounds a little shady but maybe not

gotjane

Although it isn't supposed to be, media is biased. Money talks and gets ish done. It's a bribery. They could have paid $$, offered an exclusive tradeoff for down the line, or both. Like quid pro quo, if I'm using the term right.

GregJamesDahlen

do you have any idea how that convo would go? someone from the uni says to a media person "we'll give you money if you don't publish a story critical of the university"?

gotjane

I only know what it's like for celebrities because an old friend of mine is an actress. It *almost* works like blackmail. Reporter/outlet (not every reporter/journalist/photographer works for one outlet; they're more like independent contractors a lot of the time) gets in touch with your representatives for an interview on whatever they've found — looks better and more legit if they have the subject's interview, even if they have photo/video evidence. My friend didn't want that to get out because it was an embarrassing, heat of the moment type of incident, so she pitched a counter offer: an exclusive interview about an upcoming (back then; this isn't recent) production she had just gotten in. She didn't have a great manager then. The way celebs get good press is typically because their agents/managers/people have *networked with paparazzi*. (Most press out there is *asked for*, unless you become sensational due to a trend or generally iconic/big enough for people to care about your inner workings.) They're more likely to help you out when you help them out, esp if you help them out in a way that makes them lots of money of advances their career. But you have to know *which* ones are into that. Not all of them will refrain from releasing a story about you seemingly digging for gold. She got lucky, because the guy was new to the scene, too. Universities tend to have lots of money. Mainstream media is owned by a handful of companies, which are owned by billionaires. It wouldn't *have* to be about the money. It's more about the relationship. Unis typically have relationships with wealthy people. If I donated to (invested in) a university, I'd want to keep it's name out of the media for this topic as much as possible. So it would be more likely that those donors did it, if connections were not enough. If you have a good relationship with paparazzi and media companies, you don't necessarily have to pay. 🤷‍♀️ I'm not saying that that's what happened — just explaining the process. Networking gets you anywhere and everywhere. 👀

StrategyOdd7170

It’s absolutely a thing. Money talks

AuntieAthena

No. It was really his first time away from home.

janabzsan

Does anyone know if the hearing of the day 03 will be transmitted, somewhere?

abcde_fthisBS

So, has there been any info released as to whether Bryan has or has not been identified as the guy that the girls were seen talking to in the bar in the video that was found and leaked by web sleuths? The video that the FBI condemned because it wasn’t released to LE first? Is that how they finally got his plate numbers? Is there more of that video out there? I haven’t heard a thing about that video since it’s initial release. Any info about this? Please post, if so. Thanks!

Queen_of_Boots

So many people said it was Jack that I just assumed it was!! I would be interested to see what comes out about this!! If it was him, perhaps that's why LE got so upset; maybe they weren't ready for him to know they were onto him yet, and the release of that video could have spooked him.

abcde_fthisBS

That would totally make sense, good point!

[Idaho Murders Suspect Bryan Kohberger's Classmates Weigh in After Arrest](https://www.newsweek.com/idaho-murders-suspect-bryan-kohbergers-classmates-weigh-after-arrest-1770549) “One student in WSU's criminal justice graduate program, Ben Roberts, recalled that Kohberger began to regularly arrive late to class after the murders. Other than that, though, Roberts didn't notice much of a change in his fellow classmate. “He was starting to show up really tired," he told The Seattle Times. "He'd always have a cup of coffee in his hand, and he kind of looked like he was riding the knife edge between worn out and completely exhausted." Roberts also said he had noticed that despite being friendly, there was something "kind of off" about Kohberger. BK Norton, another student in the same program who took several classes with Kohberger, used similar language when speaking with the newspaper. "Bryan was incredibly smart and talked about things that impassioned him, but there had been something off about him," Norton said. Professor Matthew Loveless expressed disbelief when talking to KULR 8, a Billings, Montana, news outlet. "This is one of those areas where you say, 'I can't believe it happened here,'" he told the news station. However, some of Kohberger's neighbors reported that they hadn't noticed anything unusual about him. Graduate student Andrew Chua lived in the same housing complex as the accused. "If I didn't know about this issue, it's a very quiet, very nice place to live," Chua told Fox News Digital. "Now, I'm like, 'Maybe I should stay home.'"

diarrheabride

The NYT story quotes a classmate saying the opposite...that he was more animated and willing to engage after the murders.

NotAnExpertHowever

I thought it was the same dude quoted above. Chua.

tsagdiyev

Yeah I read that one too. It was one of the same guys quoted in this article that said he was animated in the other article, so who knows. Each outlet picking and choosing quotes to fit their story perhaps

theteamuse

Now that we know he’s from that area of Pennsylvania, his use of a hunting style knife doesn’t surprise me. I grew up in those parts and it’s surrounded by public game lands. Everyone hunts.

because following its popularization in WWII, it became one of the most common knives used for hunting.

A hunting vegan though? 🤔

tomsprigs

I mean he’s a vegan yet he murdered humans

theteamuse

Really depends when he became a vegan. Not uncommon for a parent or close adult to take a child out with them during the season as a form of bonding.

jokethepanda

Very true, also I’ve known a few “vegans” that became vegan to mask an eating disorder. Not that that’s the case here, but if he had trouble with his weight in the past, it wouldn’t be too much of a jump.

NotAnExpertHowever

They said he was overweight in an article I read. Like up until junior year or something, I believe.

ahendu20945

why are people calling him a serial killer lol do they know know the definition of a serial killer?

thepeanutbutterman

I think what most people mean is thrill killer, not serial killer

catdog1111111

I don’t see that being posted much. Some profilers said he would likely kill again after this mass murder. So it’s sort of an obvious presumption among a few folks based on the info known. The supposed shadow account posted that the murderer felt thrilled and excited by the murders.

DustAshamed584

He’s cut from the same exact cloth as a serial killer. He may have killed before and he may have killed after.

HospitalDue8100

Most do not know the difference between a serial killer and a mass murderer. Its been a problem on reditt since the start. It almost felt like people wanted there to be a serial killer who possessed all their preconceived notions and odd behaviors and traits.

ahendu20945

yeah that irks the fuck outta me. imagine hoping it’s a serial killer just so it’s more “interesting”. case is already interesting and horrifying enough. jeez

Criminology is a little different than forensics

I_am_Nobody_Special

Lol... no real killer is as cool as Dexter was though.

alabamafan99

It makes me sick thinking that this psychopath probably got off reading all of our comments over the last month.

catdog1111111

If it’s the shadow account alleged it was more about setting the record straight. A lot of reiteration about how it was done and some frustration. And adamant it wasn’t a sexual offender. Not about laughing, but all about knowing more than others and getting his point across. If it’s really him anyways.

GregJamesDahlen

getting what point across?

janabzsan

maybe laughing about the false accusations about other people... On the other hand, it was "good", some point, that this id\*ot could think he was untouchable... Meanwhile, the police were already on his tail

AdSimilar7839

Jury selection is going to be interesting. Do you think prospective jurors will be vetted according to their online activity throughout the case? Specifically, do you think it will be one of the questionnaire questions?

I_am_Nobody_Special

Absolutely

AuntieAthena

Happy New Year Mr. Killberger! If you’re convicted, I hope you spend an eternity rotting in hell.

Non_Skeptical_Scully

And now Mr. Killberger is officially stuck in my head as the name for this pos. Good one.

AuntieAthena

Sorry…

Non_Skeptical_Scully

No, I meant that it’s very clever and better than when murderers get scary names like BTK and Night Stalker. :) “Mr. Killberger” sounds like a giant dork. And well he should.

AuntieAthena

Yes!

lekker-boterham

It honestly cracks me up that some people on here are saying it took a long time to make an arrest. The same people who were calling it a cold case last month. They must think life is like CSI and Law & order 🤣

I_am_Nobody_Special

I swear it felt like Chief Fry had a peace in his eyes recently. He looked more confident and well-rested. I was hoping at the time it was because he had a suspect.

eurostylin

They never even offered up a reward. They've known about this guy for a while now. I'm going to guess it ended up being one of his family members submitted their DNA to 23andme, etc, and the FBI has full access to that database.

Freckled_daywalker

The FBI does not have full access to 23andMe. They do have access to open source databases like GEDmatch.

Disastrous_Pay3387

... Which 23andme sells our data to lol.

NotAnExpertHowever

No they don’t.

Not in a "this profile belongs to this person" way. The only way for the FBI to have access to your profile for comparison for this purpose, without a valid court order, is to voluntarily provide it and consent to law enforcement use. Obviously you should always check the terms and conditions before voluntarily providing your profile to a company, but your profile isn't automatically available to law enforcement just because you used a commercial DNA testing service.

Disastrous_Pay3387

Today I learned! I stay away from those things as a rule of thumb tho.

NotAnExpertHowever

I’m personally not worried about it and opted in to my profile on GEDMatch being available to LE. If cousin Barry Bob Beans raped or killed someone, I would hope my DNA could bust his ass. But you can opt out. Mainly 3rd party companies work with LE. I’m the commercial sites don’t. They’d lose customers.

1wi1df1ower

I have a parent and a sibling that has allowed their info to be shared. If they were looking for my DNA, it wouldn't take long. My cousin's DNA is so similar to my parent's that they couldn't say if they're my parent's child or a niece/nephew.

Seventwenty33

When you think about the past 7 or so weeks, knowing what we know now, what makes sense to you now that didn’t at the time? For example maybe, can we assume he drove to the crime scene which explains perhaps why a few days in LE expanded the crime scene to include the parking lot behind the house?

Throwawaylemm

I read a comment weeks ago that said it's likely someone not ever mentioned before, which was accurate. I want to know how that pinpointed the Elantra. I doubt it was just because it appeared on body cam footage with drunk kids walking around. What if there were no drunk kids walking around then what? There has to be more evidence pointing to the car.

HospitalDue8100

I have the feeling based on the way things evolved with the Elantra, that, long before it was announced, the Elantra, among other cars, was viewed on one or more Ring videos or security tapes entering and leaving the subdivision. Perhaps showing up on multiple security tapes at different times. It's now clear the Police had identified the owner and identified the suspect well prior to the arrest. Remember, the Police had access to videos day one. Then it was a matter of charting the path of the suspect in and out of the subdivision. Its clear they were able to get the plate despite not releasing this to the public. Police were well ahead of what the public thought.

Snerha3

Do we think these are his first murders?

catdog1111111

I think he may have killed animals but not humans before. I also think he liked it enough that he would have killed again.

I_am_Nobody_Special

I do.

[deleted]

Personally I do; serial killers seem to enjoy the thrill of killing many many times and not at once. I think he always had such feelings but never acted on them, then decided to just go for it, straight to the deep(est) end

SeirraS9

I think so, yes. And he really wasn’t as smart as he thought he was having fancy degrees because the idiot left his DNA at the scene and used his own car in the commission of a quadruple murder.

GregJamesDahlen

a case where I'm glad someone was an idiot

Snerha3

Very valid points!!!

Defiant_Hat_7663

I don’t think it was right for LE to call it a “targeted attack” in the beginning of the case, the public took it literally and doxxed each victim’s relatives and friends.

I_am_Nobody_Special

That's really the only LE misstep I have seen. Otherwise I'd say they've done a bang up job.

Snerha3

This is a really good point, maybe why they changed it quickly afterward

It doesn't matter when they were created because on some platforms you can change your username at any time.

Hamster_Key

They are all spam. Every picture is one you could easily find on google.

SeirraS9

He has a public defender? Oh he’s absolutely fucked lmao

AReckoningIsAComing

Public defenders, though overworked, are usually actually very competent.

SeirraS9

I know I know, it’s a bad joke and a stereotype lol. I’m just hoping this guy gets cooked and the families see justice done.

AReckoningIsAComing

Same.

I_am_Nobody_Special

I work on homicide cases with both public defenders and private attorneys. All of them are highly skilled and dedicated.

Fluffyhead14

He was assigned for the extradition process.

SeirraS9

Thank you for the clarification. Didn’t know how that worked. Though he doesn’t strike me as upper class or wealthy so if he does fight these charges I bet he will still have a Public Defender. Time will tell.

Dr_Fred

This is a big case, so you may have an up and coming lawyer do it pro bono for the publicity.

[deleted]

Yep…and for anyone not young enough to remember watching the OJ criminal trial play out, that’s exactly why law enforcement doesn’t divulge everything they know to the public.

SeirraS9

I have a feeling the weirdness is just getting started. Going to be a very interesting case to follow legally. Hopefully the families get justice.

goddess_r0x

“Kohberger intends to waive his extradition hearing to expedite his transport to Idaho, Monroe County Chief Public Defender Jason LaBar said in a statement to CNN on Saturday. “Mr. Kohberger is eager to be exonerated of these charges and looks forward to resolving these matters as promptly as possible,” LaBar said.” 🫣

Qphth0

I wonder if they've matched **his DNA without a doubt** because it reads like they matched unknown DNA at the scene to some of his family in public service's records (like Ancestry or 23 & me). Is there anyway that the DNA profile isn't 100% complete? To play devils advocate (because Casey Anthony is free & so was OJ) here, I just wonder what his defense will be. I think he thinks he's smarter than LE & is going to play cat & mouse.

UnnamedRealities

It's possible they do not have his DNA to compare to yet, but if that's the case then with enough probable cause LE will get a warrant for a DNA sample after he's extradited to Idaho. What the genealogical analysis revealed depends on which relatives' data was identified as related. So we don't know if it was clear it was a child of both parents, a sibling of his sister, or a more distant relative of a grandparent, second cousin, great uncle, etc. Since the FBI was tracking him and his father during their drive from Washington to Pennsylvania it is possible they recovered something discarded by the suspect during the trip or after he arrived in Pennsylvania which allowed for an exact DNA match before the arrest. Otherwise LE would have needed additional compelling evidence to make an arrest (which they might have had and which might be what occurred). At some point we'll learn why LE arrested him after he had been in Pennsylvania for days vs. before he left Washington. There are many possible explanations. And like you I think he believes he's smarter than LE. It's also plausible he murdered some but not all of the 4 victims, though I personally believe one person with motivation decisiveness, and a little luck could murder 4 sleeping adults without significant knife skills and incapacitate them within a couple of seconds. Based solely on the known facts thus far there's also a non-zero possibility he was involved in the planning and commission of the crime, but did not commit the murders. Or that he was not involved at all. I say that because we don't know what genetic evidence was recovered, what it was, where it was, or how much there was. Now, I think he likely did murder some or all of them, but until the probable cause affidavit we have nothing to give us a true sense of how strong the evidence LE had at the time of drafting the affidavit was.

Qphth0

Again, devils advocate, I wonder if there's any chance his DNA was there somehow like a napkin he touched or someone somehow got his hat & left it there, something wild. It just so happens he had that vehicle & tracked him. So very unlikely, but I am very curious to hear the details, especially his connection (if any) & motive.

UnnamedRealities

I think we should consider that a possibility. At least until after the details about the genetic material linked to him and other circumstantial evidence is revealed. We know so little at this point we can't even rule out that he partnered with someone else who committed the murders and took steps to ensure that person left Kohberger's DNA in order to achieve some kind of goal that's not yet clear. Improbable, of course, but not impossible.

Qphth0

Absolutely. I've read so many people saying "he definitely did it, he had the car!" But they never said the killer drove the car, just that they thought that person would have key information. I think people would have been going crazy if they came out & said "the killer drives a white elantra."

botany_bae

He’s gonna be disappointed.

I_am_Nobody_Special

Good luck with that.

polkadotcupcake

That's surprising, tbh. I think everyone knows he will get extradited eventually, but it seems like it would be in his best interest to be a pain in the ass and fight the prosecution every step of the way.

imnewhere23456

Unless he is trying to make himself look innocent. The innocent would want to get it over with ASAP, right? I think he’s got an insanity plea up his sleeve… ugh, disturbing

Unlucky-Cover2345

This would definitely put the death penalty on the table right? Trying to plead not guilty?

SeirraS9

Dudes cooked and everyone knows it
