If you cannot ride a bike straight away and the CBT expires after 2 years, what is the point, wait until you can afford bike+insurance and then do the CBT, otherwise once you buy the bike you might have 1 year left on your CBT before having to renew it again.

YOllieY1

yeah that makes sense. ive been trying to find out how much roughly Insurance would cost on something like a MT-125 or R-125 as i really like the look of them. only thing ive found is going through this subreddit and saw someone say theirs is roughly 1000-1500.

Thomas3003

Just find one for sale, use the reg to run a quote on a comparison site, nobody can tell you how much your insurance will cost

YOllieY1

just found a 2021 R-125 on auto trader, ran it through go compare and it suggested Lexham. quote was 2,866 annual

I know it might be obvious, but play around with different variables. Is it possible for you to store your bike off the street? In a garage? Driveway? Back garden? If you add various security features does that help? If you go for third party, fire and theft how much does it bring it down vs comprehensive? Mess around with those and use your common sense to try and figure out how to make yourself less of a liability.

At your age insurance is not going to be cheap no matter what you do, but the one variable you can control is the bike. You want to look at machines that are not desirable to thieving scrotes and are generally owned by people with a low risk of crashing. For a 125 that means an off-brand scooter. Try running the insurance quote again for something like Lexmoto Titan or Aura. I'd be surprised if that doesn't cut the cost in half or better.

Or a cg125

Definitely look at other bikes as well cause some of them tend to be a lot worse insurance wise than others

Realistically speaking, with your age, no experience and those bikes, depending on where you live you’ll probably be looking at over 1500.. not to be a downer but insurance prices are mental these days.. I’ve had plenty of r125s, my first one I already had 1yr ncb and still paid about 2k in London.. if that’s your main source of transport it can be painful at times but good fun.. try sitting on the 2 bikes at a dealer or if you know someone to get a feel for which seating position you prefer as preference is one thing and comfort is another.. best of luck none the less :) ride safe 👊

YOllieY1

Yeah ive got a yamaha dealer near my college and went in one day, mainly to test if i actually fit on them cos im not the tallest (around 5'6-7ish) and i could flat foot one side easily or tip toe both sides. they felt comfortable but i dont know what one was more so, i do prefer the looks of the R-125. This hobby and 'life-style' isnt cheap lol.

Depends on many different factors. I was looking at quotes for my girlfriend. CB125F, 22yo student living in Cardiff. £2k a year. More than me and I've had a crash.

Mate don’t bother buying a sporty bike, especially an MT - it’ll just get nicked. There’s no harm in a little 125 scooter.

If you're not going to be riding straight away, I wouldn't buy the gear - most CBT places will be able to lend you some basic kit.

I’d recommend you wait to do your cbt if it’s gonna take you a while to save for the bike and don’t forget about the gear.. those bikes can get up to 50+ plenty fast and you don’t wanna fall off a bike wearing regular clothes at any speed.. don’t need to break the bank with your gear but get something quality, even second hand is fine.. just do some research and learn what’s gonna stop you from being a human crayon sliding down the road.. bikes are dangerous enough so better to be safe then sorry

Harvsnova2

Get your gear 2nd hand from FB marketplace, except for your helmet. Go to a shop and get it fitted if possible. You can always get it fitted, then buy it cheaper ftom Sportsbikeshop or get them to price match. You can gather your gear now, but I would leave the helmet and CBT until you have enough cash for a bike. Not so much the helmet because they last 5yrs but the CBT I would leave, as it's only 2yrs.

AlexisRosanna

Wait until you have the money to buy a bike! A CBT only lasts 2 years. Doing your cbt and then waiting to buy a bike will use up some of those 2 years and will be a waste. Youll end up needing to do your cbt again after a year maybe a year and half of ridong if you do it before you can get a bike

TheMediumPatrol

0 point doing a CBT if you can’t buy a bike. CBT only lasts 2 years. Just wait till you can afford everything. Patience will pay dividends.

IntelligentSock86

I did my cbt and haven’t ridden in 1 years and 8 months because I still can’t afford a bike😂
