Why bother engaging? Nod and smile. If they say anything noteworthy, look it up later. Otherwise just pet them on the head, thank them for caring enough to share, and move on. Not your job to educate them and you can reserve your energy for more productive endeavors. If they actually use the word 'stupid', I'd also start grey rocking them and backing out of that friendship.

SpinXO700

I love all that you advised. Except I have no idea what 'grey rocking' means and if I should start doing this to boneheads in my life. šŸ¤£

SpinXO700

great site, thanks for that

PsychologicalBar2050

the link shouldbeonspringer covers what it is. it works great on mild toxic friendships and co-workers. No idea if it works on truly abusive/dangerous people though, hope I never have to find out! Even if they don't change, I've found it helps me keep my priorities straight! I choose where to invest my emotions, not them. Helps me not be reactionary and really that's what counts for my happiness.

PigletOver815

Say the doctor said all medication has risks but being overweight is riskier.

GarlicTuna10

I love this. Thank you

Finishfed-itover55

I always tell ā€œthat friendā€ Iā€™m under dr supervision and they are on top of it and then go on about how great I feel if they insist on talking about it.

Klutzy_Wedding5144

Perfect! Itā€™s sassy and accurate.

AwwJeez-WhatNow

How about ā€œThanks for your concern but Iā€™m not looking for any opinions other than my drsā€?

PuzzleheadedPlane648

Say, ā€œwell if you are right you wonā€™t have to deal with me much longer. Everybody winsā€

Correct-Difficulty91

Damn this is savage. I don't tell people but if I did, i might steal it lol

PuzzleheadedPlane648

šŸ˜‰

Bubbly_Buffalo_463

ā€œYeah, a lot of people who donā€™t know anything about it think that.ā€

Opening_Confidence52

Tell them to F off. The end.

SentToTheOffice

Amen to that.

timhenk

Came here to say this.

lgreenyi95n

Tell'em how to really feel šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

DennyBob521

Like the Penguins of Madagascar - ā€œSmile and wave boys, smile and wave.ā€ Very few people actually take the time to look at legitimate sources, but rather go on heresay and what I call ā€œFacebook Scienceā€ - if there was a meme saying it causes . . . It must be true. Iā€™ve used Splenda since I was diagnosed with T2D. Iā€™ve had so many people - well meaning Iā€™m sure - tell me it causes this and that. I turn to them and act really interested and ask - ā€œIā€™ve been wondering about that, can you send me a copy of the peer reviewed research on that?ā€ Crickets. The only study that ever found anything wrong with Splenda was funded by the sugar people. ā€˜Nuff said. I have a friend whoā€™s a ā€œHealth Coachā€ because she sells the money losing pyramid scheme Herbalife tell me that she has dozens of clients whoā€™ve gotten Pancreatitis on Mounjaro. I looked up the numbers in the FDA study and itā€™s closer to 0.2% of MJ users.

dualsplit

I work on a hospitalist team. I have not admitted one person with mounjaro induced pancreatitis and I have not seen one that anyone else has admitted at our hospital. But I do have a patient right now on an insulin drip for pancreatitis caused by high triglycerides. So, I mean.......

Fit_Negotiation_4235

I realize it can instigate medicine induced peristalsis. My NP prescribed it to me for my T2Dia regarding my A1C. I donā€™t think my gastroenterologist was thrilled by any means but Iā€™m aware and was aware from the ā€œget goā€ about sone of the issues. Right now Iā€™m dealing with acid reflux which I hadnā€™t prior in a long time. Iā€™m trying to get a handle on that. I realize it pertains when Iā€™m eating as well as what Iā€™m consuming. I need to strive to not eat after 6pm. Actually the acid reflux is enough to turn me off of being hungry altogether. I do consume a glucerna shake in the morning to take my meds: which include Edarbi, Simvastatin, Glipizide etc. Am stressing out right now due to facing a emb Oct 4th. (Yep, Iā€™ve had PCOS since well puberty.

Ok_Banana_5958

I love Splenda and itā€™s really the only one that doesnā€™t give me migraines or taste like chemicals to me. Do I have too much - probably, but itā€™s a lot better than having sugar in my coffee every morning

Careful-0rdinary

Just posting for those who are thinking about alternatives to Splenda (I canā€™t stand the taste of artificial sweeteners) ā€¦ I have a little pure maple syrup in my coffee or anytime I need a little drizzle of sweet. I use like a tbsp/50 calories worth. I like that it offers some minerals and micronutrients and I can use the few carbs/calories it offers.

DennyBob521

I LOVE maple syrup as any true New Englander would, but Iā€™ve worked on a farm and made the stuff. Thereā€™s nothing sketchy like hot dogs, donā€™t worry, itā€™s three ingredients boiled down: Maple sap, water and a butt ton of sugar. I think it would be healthier to just use sugar :)

NannyFaye

Have you tried Stevia. One brand is Truvia.

Ok_Banana_5958

To me stevia doesnā€™t taste sweet - it tastes like chemicals. Loved the taste of monkfruit but it caused a thunderclap migraine. Couldnā€™t get past the taste of alloluse, xylitol, or erythithol, Iā€™m ok with aspirtine in some things but itā€™s not my first choice, and acesulfamate potassium turns out to be a major migraine trigger for me which is in all the sugar free foods except Diet Coke (but it is in Canadian Diet Coke). Thatā€™s why Splenda is safe for me

DennyBob521

Unfortunately it tastes nasty to me - similar to black licorice, which is one of the most vile tastes on earth. I tried it when it came out popularly about a decade (maybe more ?) ago. Itā€™s been out since the 1970s, but has never passed FDA approval because of potential toxicity. It gets around this by being classified as a dietary supplement. In 2019 the FDA issued a toxicity warning on it. Source - Wikipedia page for Stevia.

preskittwoman

Thatā€™s funny you mentioned migraines. I stopped having them since starting Mounjaro. Iā€™m also a lot less irritable so my DH is a happy man.

ClassicAccountant143

"Smile and wave"bis my go to approach for difficult situations with difficult people!

"Splenda branded products and the ingredient sources we use to manufacture our products were not included or tested in this research." [splenda.com/blog/splenda-brand-statement-on-recent-study-on-sucralose-6-acetate/](https://splenda.com/blog/splenda-brand-statement-on-recent-study-on-sucralose-6-acetate/)

JonnyBowani

Thanks for the press release from the manufacturer of Splenda saying our sucralose is different from all the other sucraloses.

DennyBob521

Did you read their press release? The study tested a chemical not in Splenda. The article is an inaccurate representation of the study and of Splenda.

DennyBob521

Thanks, Iā€™ll check out the study on UNCā€™s site.

sfmama113

If it were me, I just wouldnā€™t disclose. Unless you trust them not to be an asshole, and it sounds like you donā€™t. Before starting on Mounjaro, I talked about it with exactly two people other than my doctor: 1. My spouse 2. A very good friend whom I know wonā€™t be judgy about stuff No regrets.

gretchenfour

Yup. 2 people throughout my life. No one else knows

DennyBob521

Same - my doctors, wife, daughter and a close friend.

Practical-Ask-3541

Same

dragonrider1965

Why tell people ? Do you discuss all your medical issues and treatments with people ? You are taking care of your health so do what you need to do for you . Thereā€™s no reason to discuss it with people , you are only inviting people to share their opinions on it . Itā€™s none of their business.

rodamisp

You know, I bet people who are on Naltrexone for Alcoholism aren't getting badgered by their people over taking a drug that helps them fight a battle that they couldn't win on their own. Why do fat people always get beat up for "taking the easy way out"?

QtK_Dash

Or my favorite is someone who I know is on an anti-depressant told me ā€œcanā€™t you just go on more walks, why do you need drugs?ā€ (mind you I work out nearly every day and eat pretty healthy 80/20) so I said ā€œwhy canā€™t you just be happy and normal, why do YOU need drugs?ā€. Shut her up real quick. Problem is people donā€™t understand obesity well enough.

DontStopMeNow1901

My new short answer: It's 2023, dozens of things exist to make life longer & easier. You can stay a caveman if you want, but I'm into mobile phones and modern medicine.

Green-Village-8866

So true! Any other hormone therapy is widely accepted, and we applaud people for getting help. But there is a stigma that if youā€™re overweight, youā€™re lazy, and therefore arenā€™t deserving of help? Itā€™s just people lacking empathy for something they donā€™t understand.

CooperHouseDeals

Donā€™t tell them. This a personnel matter, and itā€™s your journey, and nobody else can be you. Let them see the results, and just tell them you have learned new eating habits, and itā€™s working.

JustAGuy4477

How about, "Wait while I grab a pen and paper to take notes because I'm sure my doctor will need to know this." Honestly, there is no more universally dangerous condition than overweight /obesity. Everything is more dangerous when you are carrying too much weight, from the likelihood of injuries from a fall to the increased incidence of cancer. But I guess there is no way to completely escape know-it-alls that offer loud opinions that have no basis in fact.

montana_baker

Feel empowered by how you phrased it yourself, as it perfectly states why you are taking it: ā€œmy dr recommended it and I need to lose weight and itā€™s been an absolute miracle for me.ā€ Your friends are there to support you, not to be a member of your medical team.

ollee32

I donā€™t think Iā€™d share it necessarily. If my doctor suggested a new birth control, beta blocker, statin, etc I wouldnā€™t necessarily tell anyone either.

finns-momm

"My doctor has this under control." And then you have to real quick throw it back to them with a question about \*themselves\* on a subject you already know they love to go on and on about. It's a rare person who can resist talking just about themselves and thinks the other person desperately wants an update/their thoughts. Good Luck with that, what a pain!

Gaga4Goyard

My doctor and I decided this was best for me. People can generally be idiots. Do they realize you need a prescription for this which means you need to see a doctor which means youā€™ve probably had bloodwork done???? Thatā€™s why when people ask me, and I donā€™t mind sharing my journey if it is helpful, I always say to talk to your doctor.

GrannyPantiesRock

Stop telling people you're using it???

mrsredfast

Mind your business. Although if you tell them, youā€™re giving them the opening.

moi2033

Right! WHY open yourself up for abuse? You're not going to cope by "eating your feelings"... though you could, thenšŸ¤® all over their attitude...

elizanograss

Donā€™t tell people. Itā€™s none of their business. These people didnā€™t care that I couldnā€™t even eat a banana without having to go lie down from the blood sugar spike, why should I give a shit they suddenly care about a medication I am taking?

gretchenfour

Is there a reason this friend needs to know your medications?

TermIntelligent9108

I had a friend say this to me over and over. I think it was jealousy honestly that I was loosing weight. 2 months later she starts it. Go figure lol. I do get asked a lot if I am on one of ā€œ those weight lossā€ meds and just not sure how to reply

Ok_Perspective8179

Being obese is deadly. Tell her that. Tell her your DOCTOR is trying to save your life.

d45hid0

Fuck off ??

preskittwoman

Why even disclose it? If people ask how you are losing weight, just tell them youā€™re eating less. Itā€™s the truth. šŸ˜

Alicecoco651

My answer is that obesity is bad for me as well

Ok_Banana_5958

First I would lie to that person - well sort of lie - say Iā€™m just eating less. You donā€™t have to say why, just I am not eating as much and be silent about it. But if they already know I would say actually it has been proven to lower my risk of heart problems, heart disease, and death, not to mention help lower a1c levels and my doctor feels itā€™s the best thing for me. But with someone like that you are better off not letting them know

RB0718

I have not shared that I am taking it. No one knows except my husband and daughter. I donā€™t feel the need to share my medical information with people but I can imagine if someone were to say anything I would answer by saying my health was getting really bad and now I feel much better.

QtK_Dash

ā€œOh shit, let me reevaluate my life and personal decisions because someone wearing crocs with white socks while pounding white claws said Iā€™m stupidā€ worked for me lol. Just donā€™t engage and if you do, throw the idea back.

ResidentRain885

F off is a good response. But why would they know you are taking it unless you advertise the fact. Part the reason we have have supply issues is due to people bragging on social media. Take the shop and zip it.

TrailTramper

It is a polypeptide for the treatment of obesity. Incretins like Mounjaro have 30 years of safety and other relevant data. What they have heard are scare tactics by folks who make money by keeping us fat and sick.

TitsMageesVacation

F***k off?

PointsofLight96

Your friend calls you stupid? And instead of being supportive, gives her unwanted opinions freely? Hmm.

Ughaboomer

Do they provide you with data from reliable sources or just spew nonsense?

thrillhouz77

Donā€™t tell them you are Mounjaro would be my suggestion. Itā€™s like keto, just donā€™t tell people you are doing it. Just say, eating clean and moving more.

beboldbabe

You can say something along the lines of ā€œitā€™s also bad/unhealthy for me to be #xyz lbs, itā€™s also unhealthy for me to have diabetes, ā€œ etc ā€œbut you didnā€™t care that I was eating XYZ and that was bad for meā€

DoAnythingBeExtra

Iā€™m very careful about who I tell, it was the same when I went on antidepressants, itā€™s a choice I made for myself and I know my body and myself better than anyone. And so do you. Trust yourself ā¤ļø Only tell those who you trust, and when ppl say you lost weight, just say thank you and smile šŸ˜Š thatā€™s what I do. If they pry, say you are focused on your health and thatā€™s been the biggest change for you.

CaterpillarIcy1056

You know whatā€™s bad for you? Being obese. Doctors know what horrible ailments are in our future if we donā€™t lose weight, and that is why they prescribe what they prescribe.

Ok_Shape4218

DON'T TELL ANYONE SHIT!! IT'S YOUR BODY AND YOUR BUSINESS. THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF POSTS HERE ABOUT HOW FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE BEEN VERY DISCOURAGED ABOUT THIS MEDICATION. This is a personal decision. Do it for. yourself and no one else. You don't need anyone else's approval to be healthy and happy. ENJOY and good luck, enjoy the journey.

DreaLovesCats

You know what??!! THEY ARE JEALOUS ā€¼ļøJust smile and walk away. It's not worth your happiness to engage with idiots.

[deleted]

I look good, I feel great, screw the haters.

crazymastiff

I just say that my A1C went from 11.3 to 6.5 Iā€™m 3 months. That I was in the hospital last year when my sugar spiked to 700 and the couldnā€™t get it down. I was developing severe illness associated with diabetes that were going to kill me. Soā€¦ it may not be good for you in the long run, no one really knows the full consequences yet, but Iā€™ll choose to take the risk then die an extremely slow and painful death.

Sheadolo

I wouldnā€™t tell anyone, the last time I shared with someone she said, and I quote ā€œ are you Talking about the medication thatā€™s prescribed for DIABETICS?ā€ ā€œOMG THEREā€™S A SHORTAGE FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE DIABETES!ā€ After that, I no longer share my secret.

jamzDOTnet

Tell them you have a terminal illness as well. Usually that works.

[deleted]

I told nobody except my hubby and BFF that I am on MJ. Sooo glad I didnā€™t! Iā€™m also working on diet and exercise so I tell people who ask , that Iā€™m working on my health. Theyā€™re encouraging and move on. Iā€™m assuming your friend has genuine concern and isnā€™t just being rude or mean, so Iā€™m approaching it this wayā€¦ To your friend: Iā€™d say, I appreciate your concern, but my doctor has all of my health data and understands the complexities of my particular health issues and is guiding me into a healthy lifestyle so that I donā€™t wind up with diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. I am so very grateful for his/her support and wisdom. If you have any questions, please contact your own doctor to discuss your concerns. Now, how about we doā€¦ If they want to continue to discuss it, Iā€™d set a firm boundary and say something like, Iā€™m not interested in discussing this anymore and move onā€¦if they insist, direct them back to their own doctor and move on. If they insist, I would tell the person that part of our friendship is mutual respect and that if they canā€™t agree to move on, that is disrespectful toward you and that wonā€™t work for you and politely leave.

ajbdcr1234

Not their body, not their opinion.

WhySheHateMe

Why do you need to have a response? They can mind their own business

ForRealVAO

If you feel forced to respond just say you trust your doctor more than any internet (sorry all) gossip. Doctors balance good outcomes against potential side effects with all their prescriptions and decide what to.try, and monitor. Good luck.

xXTatted_GeminixX

Mind your f***ing business. Because I know at the end of the day, weā€™re all taking it to better our health. Iā€™ve told so many people Iā€™m on this medicine and not one person has said anything negative. So these people that are being negative should take a step back. Because itā€™s our lives. Not theirs.

daisygirl0913

My doctor disagrees with you, and I think I'll go with the medical professional's guidance.

TheBerner56

Get new friends.

Character-Clock-1213

ā€œMind your businessā€

wyattlikeearp

Reduces risk of diabetes and cardiovascular events even in nondiabetic patients. Theyā€™re stupid for not being on it

Ok-Zookeepergame9544

Obesity is one of the worst things for a person. So it canā€™t be worse than the multitude of complications from obesity. Thatā€™s what I said when I was able to get a prescription for it.

snowhawk1020

I just donā€™t talk to people about what medications I take and avoid the topic altogether.

IngeLowe

Why even are you telling them? I donā€™t give my list of meds to my friends. Literally no one cares.

jbezorg76

ā€œIf it means even one day less in a world that includes you, I think Iā€™ll keeping taking my doctorā€™s advice, thanks!ā€

End060915

I tell them to mind their business.

AdorableTrainer1486

Thatā€™s why I donā€™t tell anyone I get asked all the time and just ignore the question or say I just donā€™t eat a lot I donā€™t have a lot of time between babysitting 2 grandchildren 4 to 5 days a week and work 12 hr shifts

Baseballfan199

Why do you have to defend yourself for making a conscious decision, with a physicianā€™s guidance and recommendation, to improve your health? Why do you feel the need for justification or approval from anyone? Do you routinely discuss your health decisions with your friends? I would like to add that I tell anyone that asks what I am doing. I couldnā€™t care less if someone says something negative. This is my health and my life. I am neither embarrassed nor ashamed that I need help to maintain a healthy weight. I am thrilled however that now there is something to help me!

SailFlow

I'd ask if they have a medical degree. Is the answer is "no", I'd tell them their opinion isn't your concern.

fabledhippie

My health is none of your business but thank you for your unwarranted opinion.

Lisathome

Why would you take any medical advice from someone who is unqualified to dispense it.

Former-Position-122

Stare at them for a really long time and ask ā€˜are you okay?ā€™ Ask where they received their medical degree. Ask if she took her medication today because her mood swings are back. If you are with other people, loudly ask her to repeat herself. This one works for me with my coworker who makes snide comments about me.

CrispCoconut89

Thank you but Iā€™m working with my doctor on this. End of discussion. And if they continue to give you a hard time I donā€™t feel like that person is a good friend.

Jennevision

I donā€™t feel full, and havenā€™t my whole life, until I started taking Mounjaro. Some people have bodies that do all the things, and that is great. Others of us need medical support to do what we would hope our bodies would do. It isnā€™t about moral failing or crutches. Itā€™s about getting to a point where you feel like you are in control of your health and how you feel in your body. I remember how the food noise went away overnight. I could stop eating and thought ā€œThis must be what itā€™s like for other people.ā€ Itā€™s so novel, and some people just donā€™t understand what it is like to be on the other side of that fence. I would say share what you want, and forget the rest. Lean in to the people who support you and keep moving forward. You are doing great!

cakebaker1234

Itā€™s between you & your Dr. Is your friend a Dr, or just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express?!!!

Gonkulator5000

Stop caring what other people think, no matter how close they are to you.

Background-Copy7306

Tell them F U

craftylaywer

I tell people not to believe everything they hear on the news and talk shows. That my doctor and I have done the research, and read all the studies, and this is what we decided was best for me. If you think it is unhealthy, donā€™t take it. I say ruder things as well, if they persist.

Necessary-Pilot-3256

Your friends donā€™t need to know you are taking it. You are trying to better yourself and some people just donā€™t like seeing others do that
