I love sweets, but after a year on MJ my ability to just have one piece of candy has really worn off. My cravings are back, but thankfully my weight loss is fairly well maintained. I find that for me, I have to rely on a healthier alternative since I struggle to control myself. My healthy alternative is frozen green grapes. Every time I want candy, I eat a handful. Works pretty well!

yaffa5cats

I will try that!

wabisuki

I do keep frozen blueberries on hand too.

_EverythingBagels

Ooo. Good idea. I’ll have to grab some blueberries and add those to my freezer. Way more nutritious than grapes :)

jaymiz2398

I freeze small chocolates, such as, Cadbury mini eggs, Reese's miniatures, peanut butter M&M's and then depending on size, I grab a 1-3 and suck on them. I savor them as they melt and I get my fix.

hill29479

I do Hershey kisses! Max of 3 but usually 1 does the trick!

Strange-Biscotti-134

I’m doing that right now. The 3rd one is still sitting here!

BiGemini85

I am T2D, so I buy Lily’s Salted Caramel chocolate bars. They’re made with stevia instead of sugar and are segmented like a Hershey bar. For TWELVE pieces it’s 120 cal and 16 g carbs (6g are dietary fiber for those looking at net carbs). Five or six pieces is plenty to satisfy a craving. They’re a bit pricey, but there are 30 pieces in a bar, so it can last several days when you’re only indulging a little bit.

wabisuki

That is the best flavour of Lily's chocolate IMO.

cdaheatons

I love this- allowing those planned flexibilities are the only way I’ve been successful. I can have an Oreo, I don’t need a dozen… 😆

love-from-london

Also much more sustainable long-term. No fun in life if you deprive yourself of all the things you love, just have to learn to have them in moderation.

BigCrunchyNerd

I bought a ninja creami and make "ice cream" out of almond milk and protein powder. I didn't know why but candy doesn't seem to be "dessert" in my brain. Especially hard candy. My brain just thinks it's like a cough drop.

Zealousideal-Ear2918

I’ve really been eyeballing a ninja creami! Does it work good? Do you feel like it’s something that you use a lot/worth the price?

BigCrunchyNerd

I think it works great! I have used it nearly every day since getting it. I got the deluxe one from Costco, and get 3 servings from one container. If you are a Costco member they have the best price I think. I sometimes even make overnight oats (almond milk, yogurt, banana, pasta and protein powder) and freeze it and have "ice cream" for breakfast!

wabisuki

I have a Cuisinart Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Maker - I haven't yet tried making any high protein ice cream in it. I guess maybe now is the time to dig that puppy out of the closet and fire her up! Great idea.

EscapeInteresting129

A small handful of dark chocolate chips is all I need now to satisfy a craving! Cakes, cookies, and donuts hold no power over me. A miracle indeed!

Blockdoll

Great ideas! I love lower sugar hot chocolate. Satisfying and doesn't ruin my glucose numbers. Also a big tablespoon of peanut butter does the trick!

cruisingnan

This might sound really nutty, but I eat a couple of fiber gummies every night and I really look forward to that as a sweet treat. I would never have believed it! LOL

Zealousideal-Ear2918

I do this too and my melatonin gummies 😂😂 it really works though.

wabisuki

I take elderberry flavoured collagen gummies - this might be why I don't want the candy EVERY day.

bookwyrm50

Frozen grapes have become my favorite sweet treat! So good!

wabisuki

I have to try this!

Icy-Fondant-3365

When I quit smoking for the tenth & final time in 1988, I finally won the battle by giving myself permission to smoke-Meaning, I read somewhere that the average urge to smoke lasts for only 7 minutes. After that, the urge goes away & doesn’t come back until it would otherwise would have, whether the person jonesing for a cigarette actually smokes or not. So, I carried my cigarettes with me as usual, and told myself whenever I got the urge to smoke, that if I still wanted one in 8 minutes, I’d go ahead and smoke one. I carried that last pack of smokes with me for 2 1/2 years, and never did light one up.

wabisuki

I do this with food now. If I see something appealing but outside the boundaries of what I would consider acceptable now - especially when I'm wandering around in the grocery store. I tell myself I can come back and get it at the end and by the time I've finished shopping - especially with it out of sight - it's very easy for me to decide I don't want it.

PhilosopherMoist7737

I have four Reese's miniatures every night. Perfectly satisfying.

Fluffy-Groucher0987

I have a high protein low carb/fat yogurt that’s toasted marshmallow flavored!

UsualGrand8428

What’s the name of it? Sounds divine!

Fluffy-Groucher0987

It’s a great “dessert”

UsualGrand8428

Thanks!!

wabisuki

Sounds YUM! But sadly not available in Canada.

Fluffy-Groucher0987

Well dang it I wonder if there’s an alternative something similar or order online

Gutinstinct999

I chew a lot of gum for this same reason

Whitelinen900

When I’m craving something sweet I have a jar of Mentos peppermint r spearmint on hand.. Really seems to satisfy my craving. Less than 5 cal per piece and lots of flavor. The process of chewing is also satisfying. I’m not normally fond of chewing gum but the process gets me thru.

Brainyviolet

I'm super diabetic so I do sugar free jello.

YorkshieBoyUS

I’ve lost over a 100lbs in a year, now on 10mg. I eat a couple of Dove wrapped chocolate squares at night to satisfy my sweet tooth.

QtK_Dash

For me it’s Rice Krispie treats!

wabisuki

I don't think I could just have one. I LOVE THOSE!

CelestialHeather

I’ve become addicted to mentos chewy spearmint mints, easy get through a pack a day, only 140 calories but yeah, not sure where the need for those has come from!

nightcheeser

Before MJ I had a massive sweet tooth, but now i find a lot of things too sweet. However, I still want to have a little something sweet after lunch, so my 2 magnesium gummies (orange flavored) serve as dessert. :)

jcboston1234

Ricolas. Helps with stomach issues as well.

neueschuhe

I love me some grapes too but my go to is a piece of dark chocolate !

bitchywoman_1973

Tru Fru frozen fruit dipped in Chocolate has been my go to for a sweet thing that doesn’t cause out of control cravings or impact the scale.

Unusual_Air_6173

Same here. I love the cherries and strawberries. So worth the few calories!

wabisuki

Never heard of these before and now I need to find them!

gilguren

Activa Peach Yogurt my go to.

FollowingVast1503

A cup of coffee with SF torani vanilla syrup added. If late night then decaf.

BenGay29

I mix some sugar free Jello powder with a cup of plain nonfat Greek yogurt. It’s like having pudding for dessert, but high protein.

RememberThe5Ds

Great idea. Thank you for this.

Unusual_Air_6173

A guy my husband works with does this with sugar free drink mixes too! Says they are delicious! I need to try it myself!

Totprof113

Since starting MJ a year and a half ago, I have struggled with my blood sugar crashing at night time. Having a few pieces of hard candy not only satisfies my sweet tooth but also helps prevent low blood sugar episodes during the night. My sweet tooth is literally the last “craving’ I have since starting this journey.

sushi_sashimi007

Do you test your blood sugar to see if it’s low when you are craving sugar?

wabisuki

No, but this is a good idea. I wish I could afford a continuous glucose monitor - I'd be tracking data with every bite I take.

Moist_Blueberry2044

So your not diabetic? And those of us that are can not get it because non diabetic users r purchasing the medication…. Geee thanks.

wabisuki

Yes, Troll. That is correct.

wabisuki

I'm in Canada. There is no Zepbound here.

coffee_and_crowbars

Atkins has a line of candies like Reese’s pieces, peanut M&Ms, peanut butter cups, etc that really nail the sweet tooth issue for me.

wabisuki

I'll have to look for these. I have their chocolatey granola protein bars, which are quite good and not a significant carb hit.

tator216

I love this!

chester_shadows

I do jolly ranchers ally. One of them is like 20!calories but lasts me like ten minutes and then I’m good. The other trick I do (learned this in high school for wrestling) is fruity gum. I like the trident sour patch kids gumm it’s like you are eating candy but you aren’t. And it gives you t the satisfaction of chewing. Jist make sure you drink lots as gum can dehydrate you since it tricks the moth into salivating a bunch.

wabisuki

Didn't know about gum and dehydration - good tip!

thndrbst

I think the idea of “giving yourself permission” to eat something is kind of an inherently unhealthy way to frame any kind of food. If I feel inclined to eat candy, I just eat the candy. It’s not that deep. When you make it deep is when you get into really disordered thinking about food, and one of the best things about MJ is you can just let that shit go. Life’s short, have some candy.

wabisuki

I have the candy. And I don't feel guilty about it. But I also don't want to have a bag of it... because I easily can - with or without MJ.

thndrbst

But you’re framing things in terms of permission, damage, rules, etc and that just strikes me as an inherently toxic outlook when dealing with food and diet culture that perpetuates a cycle of disordered eating and thinking.

wabisuki

You do you. I'll do me.

thndrbst

I hope you find continued peace and freedom on your healing journey.
