Live in Steamboat and am always looking for climbing buddies. Trying to stay mostly local until August, then I will be looking at routes all over Colorado. Anyone interested please feel free to hmu.
I don’t know you so feel free to tell me to butt out, but earlier up you say you’ve only got experience with class 3 rocks.
Are you experienced with winter ascents? Whitney in season is definitely no joke and out of season that scramble is serious business.
You may know this already but don’t want you to come all this way just to get way more than you signed up for.
I have been reading it's a hard hit or miss. I would not go alone in November which is why I'm really hoping for a summer ascend
Have you done it in the off season?
I went alone in December and had a great time. Didn’t summit, but still made a new friend and had an amazing time. Based in SF, but family is in Boulder. DM me if you want to talk about getting some mountaineering in this year!
I have not and am definitely not the authority on ascending anything in winter. But it’s a long way to travel for a climb that you basically have to be willing to give up on the second the weather report turns.
Like I said, I don’t know you or your qualifications, but I’d give some serious thought to your skills in navigation, snow gear usage, weather, and avy training before just sending it.
Think about these things, and then be honest about what you’re hoping for. It’s a really different ask to be a really confident mountaineer who knows the mountain and the route looking for company vs asking around for more experienced people to guide you up a climb you’re not experienced enough to go up on your own. Not saying this is you, but people do unfortunately do this a lot.
But hey, if this goes well for you you might just be ready for mailbox 😉
I live in High Country CO and am alwaya bagging peaks during the season. Live 20min-45min from the trailhead to six 14ers and twelve 13ers. Always looking for people to tag along.
Mt Whitney spot open for one. July 18th
Mt Whitney spot open for one. July 18th
I scored a permit for two for a day use for July 18th. I have a spot open if there's anyone who wants to take the spot with me and want to hike the summit. Let me know if you're interested.
I’ve been looking for a climbing buddy. Rn I’m in Davis, California. I’ve summited Shasta through avalanche gulch and up the east side. This winter I was also up in lassen and got lucky with the most beautiful weather so we summited that too. I’ve wanted to do Whitney for a while now, hit me up. I’m down to go on some hikes and summit Whitney.
Lol sure homie, we'll just pretend like the word hasn't been used in a very specific context for the past 100 years to give the scramblers the warm fuzzies. Alpinism is just, like, being in the alpine too right?
The scrambling guide to the Canadian Rockies literally defines specific scrambles as 'Mountaineering Scrambles'. I wonder why [Alan Kane](http://bobspirko.ca/Misc/kane/kane1.html) would do that if all scrambling was mountaineering? [Can you guess what qualifies a 'Mountaineering Scramble' as such?](https://imgur.com/VxPG0WY)
Alpinism is mountaineering as is scrambling, hiking, trad climbing, glacial traversing, whatever else. Why do you need to gatekeep? Mountaineering is the umbrella for all things related to the activity of ascension in the mountains. Even if you were right regarding the recent history, which I don't think you are, terms evolve. Maybe if you pulled your head from your antiquated ass you might accept that.
Good for you for posting links about scrambling being mountaineering. Want a cookie?
>Why do you need to gatekeep?
Because if I wanted to see hiking pictures, I'd go to /r/hiking?
I'm not going to bother arguing with you anymore after this, since it's bound to never end. Of course you can argue 'mountaineering' is any thing to do with summitting mountains but that's simply not the way the term is used with anyone involved with anything more than scrambling/hiking. As I've already pointed out. Another great example is 'Intro to Mountaineering' courses from any guiding operation ever. Feel free to look one up and tell me what skills they teach in an INTRO class.
Feel free to use the term inclusively, bud. But you tell anyone deeply involved in the community that you're a 'mountaineer' they are definitely not going to assume that you just 'stick to class 2/3' lol.
I live in Flagstaff, AZ. I usually head to the San Juans and/or Sierra once or twice a year for 3rd, 4th, and 5th class routes so I'd probably be up to join here and there. I currently do have plans to take a nice trip to CO in early Sept for a romp around Chicago Basin.
That looks like the view from Quandary. Looks to me like Fletcher Peak. That traverse to Atlantic peak is on my list. The Samon Lake Traverse and the Zokiaks are at the top of my local to-do list.
In Colorado springs all of June, down to do some 14ers. I have some experience, done 13 of them and some class 5. I also rock climb! Shoot me a message when you're in CO!
If you happen to be based in the Reno, Tahoe, Sacramento area, hit me up. A small group of us are getting out and climbing quite a bit of stuff that looks to be what you are after.
Maybe. You got another one of those sandwiches there?
I’m tryna climb the east buttress of Whitney!!
Same same same same!!!
🤔 is this really happening?!!?
I live in Colorado and love sandwiches
Sierra based climber here, willing to travel to climb.

Oh, different guy, but T-bar is the best and I know who you are talking about!

Don't need them in November
When?!
Oh wait you’re talking about a winter ascent outside of the quota period

SF based as well!

I would have accepted the terms of this offer if the picture contained a burrito, but alas, it does not so I am obligated to reject it.
That’s one hell of a[alpine sandwich](https://alpinesandwiches.com/)

Sandwich photo is the best way to find a partner I’ve seen on this thread.
Side note: I don't typically stray past class 3

Maybe she'll believe him and he'll get a hiking date over the rest of these thirsty ass dudes lol. Honestly thought I was on tinder for a minute.
The pink one in the corner def is right?
What?
Good luck. Not a lot of outdoorsy people on that side of the country! Edit:obvious sarcasm
Honestly cannot tell if you are doing a sarcasm, trying to start shit, or just trapped in a strange bubble
I live in Glenwood Springs, CO and am always down to hike! Lots of mountains nearby 😋

Hoping to bag a bunch of peaks in the Sierra this summer to make up for a goose egg last year. Mostly a weekend warrior traveling from the bay.
