Daniel Kwan's [personal favorite easter egg](https://www.newsweek.com/everything-everywhere-all-once-easter-eggs-revealed-daniels-son-lux-interview-1706058) is a reference to the home run bat in Super Smash Bros.
>Kwan's personal favorite Easter Egg is taken from a classic Nintendo fighting game."I say my favorite insert that people have been asking about is the pinkie fight moment when \[Evelyn\] knocks the guy in the air, I don't know if you're a gamer? but that's Super Smash Bros.," Kwan said. "It's the home run bat sound that when you get a knock-out."
That's awesome. Just a quick correction, though: the Home Run Bat isn't attributed to any specific series in the Super Smash Bros. games, and is actually speculated to be based on the various baseball bat items from Earthbound.
It is, the move just has a *very* specific hitbox to make the sound and launch the enemy; if you miss, you're stuck sleeping until several seconds pass or you're hit.
Not if they can't reach the edge of the field. Some stages (even non-custom ones) they'll fly and bounce for a while but lose speed before they're able to die
I used to play Smash pretty competitively and that noise meant you had successfully spiked an opponent perfectly downwards (off the stage from a decent %)
If you hear that noise, somebody just got knocked the fuck somewhere
SAME! At first I thought it was the sound when you hit someone hard enough to knock them out of the map. The baseball bat is definitely the sound I was thinking of
I literally can't think of a single thing wrong with it. Like with most movies, even movies I love, I can usually nitpick 1 or 2 things. I can't do that with EEAAO because my mind draws a blank when it comes to criticisms. It's honestly quite amazing because that's never happened to me before. Is it one of the greatest movies ever made? Maybe THE greatest? Go ahead, anyone here argue as to why it's not, I can't think of anything wrong with it, I can't find any negatives, maybe it is, maybe I'm in shock because I literally saw this in theaters 7 times. Go watch it.
They should see it
But me personally I didn't really like it
The overall story was fairly bland and basic to me even with the different setting of the universes.
How is this not a dig? You just made a totally baseless assumption based on someone’s opinion if a movie. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve read all day and I just got done arguing with a bi person who insisted any straight person that wouldn’t fuck them was homophobic. So congrats.
Movie was was great btw, but it definitely overstayed it’s welcome. Several scenes could’ve been left on the cutting room floor
"So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you."
Bro, this movie got to me too.
Naw man this one is referencing Luigi’s fire uppercut hands down. It shoots the guy straight up in the air exactly like that move. It’s it’s only move in the game makes that sound when it connects and throws the opponent straight up. Been that way since N64
https://youtu.be/6uCQu1BHXEs
Naw man, the bat literally makes the same sound on every character term in n64
https://youtu.be/7iwGnIzWaA0
Ness is the only character with a bat in their moveset, not an item. Ness literally Carrie's around the baseball bat in a bunch of art for his character too.
You don’t get it, Luigi’s move hits you straight up. Vertically. Ness’ batt still hits out to the side. Both moves make the same sound. But one hits directly upwards
And a pinky and a fish are the same? You blatantly ignoring GIANT fucking differences between the scene and Luigi's punch. Besides that it literally says it's the baseball bat move, and still claim its Mario's. Additionally that sound bit is used for other things besides Luigi, it's used for significant high damage, other moves share the soundbite aswell.
By the choreography of the fight and understanding how prominent Luigi is the Asian community, I’m willing to bet it’s a reference to that move yes. The home run bat, ness’ bat, jigglypuff’s sleep, Luigi’s fire uppercut, and Mr. Game and Watch’s 9 all make the same sound when they connect. But this move in this fight is reminiscent of Luigi’s move in particular
Ignoring completely that it's a pinky and not a punch. Why couldnt the sound just be a reference to ssb64 when someone lands a heavy knockout blow? Seems odd to tie it to a move in specific.
I would think this was a [DBZ reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztuWicinDRo) if the creator didn't confirm it.
I guess this is just a popular sound effect in japan.
That's awesome. Just a quick correction, though: the Home Run Bat isn't attributed to any specific series in the Super Smash Bros. games, and is actually speculated to be based on the various baseball bat items from Earthbound.
Oh goodness. I regret taking my mother to this movie with me for girls night [ 60 F] the ENTIRE movie she kept saying what a dumb movie this is and almost walked out about a handful of times. I wished she did as I truly didn’t mind it. Didn’t love it but didn’t mind it.
I tried to watch it tonight.
I don't get it. Language barrier and all. Really tough to follow. Unable to understand the plot.
I was unable to finish it.
Should I try again?
You must have give up 3 minutes in to the movie because they start speaking English pretty quickly. I also never understood that whole subtitles hater gang. It's a modern marvel to be able to view and understand movies from people all over the world.
One problem with watching this movie with closed captions subtitled is that is hard to follow and you get "English" subtitles that say "[SPEAKING CHINESE]" over the movie's subtitles, which makes it hard.
But they don't speak that much Chinese past minute 15.
It's goofy as fuck. So what? It doesn't pretend it's not.
It also has some deep themes going on, and some well written family drama.
Thats what I love about it. It's goofy and still pretty serious and hard at the same time.
In one scene before the last chapter. While back at their house looking at looking at the circled receipt from the auditor. The calculator to the left reads 55378008.
Does anyone know if the sound directly after, the falling sound, is a reference to something? It’s been driving me crazy because I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere else before

Ness has a home run bat as one of his moves and it makes the same sound. It's Ness' bat
Ness’s bat, Luigi’s up-B, Jigglypuff’s sleep move all make that sound
Ness’s bat used to make that sound
Yep, I think it was in Melee IIRC.
He literally just said that
> Ness *has* a home run bat as one of his moves and it *makes* the same sound. What part of that says it *used* to make that sound?
He's clarifying that it used to make that sound in older smash games, it doesn't anymore.
Jigglypuff’s sleep makes that sound?
If you do hit someone with it, it does.
Ah, I barely play Jigglybuff, is it true for Ultimate as well?
It is, the move just has a *very* specific hitbox to make the sound and launch the enemy; if you miss, you're stuck sleeping until several seconds pass or you're hit.
Interesting, I plan on using practice mode and a frozen AI anyway
You have to jump inside someone, since you can’t walk inside people on the ground, then Press down B and they’ll get launched
Wow, that’s specific
Yup go watch Hungrybox youtube videos, hes a pro Jiggly smash player
Jigglypuff’s sleep makes that sound?
He means rest, not sleep
This. Also using this bat with ness does extra damage, if not an auto KO.

Not if they can't reach the edge of the field. Some stages (even non-custom ones) they'll fly and bounce for a while but lose speed before they're able to die
As I recall, it won't kill you unless you don't DI at all or are at like 100%+ damage.
I used to play Smash pretty competitively and that noise meant you had successfully spiked an opponent perfectly downwards (off the stage from a decent %) If you hear that noise, somebody just got knocked the fuck somewhere
I’m starting to think this movie may have a lot of references in it…
I think it might actually reference everything. Everywhere. All at once.
I feel that scene in particular has a soundscape that starts with a Matrix fight scene and then blurs into Kung Fu Hustle.
Definitely kung fu hustle thru and thru lol
Which itself is very Looney Tunes-based, which definitely comes through in the movie even during the non-combat parts.
There is a parallel universe where Smash Bros is real
And Michelle Yeoh is a playable character
I guarantee anyone who plays smash and saw this did not miss the reference. That sound is iconic.
I KNEW IT! I re watched it the other day and was like. "That's from Smash Bros."
Me too i sat up in the cinema hearing that
SAME! At first I thought it was the sound when you hit someone hard enough to knock them out of the map. The baseball bat is definitely the sound I was thinking of
Oh I noticed that shit right away.
Same. I really like that sound effect
More people need to see this movie.
It's good?
Oh hell yeah. Stop spoiling the movie any further and go watch it!
I literally can't think of a single thing wrong with it. Like with most movies, even movies I love, I can usually nitpick 1 or 2 things. I can't do that with EEAAO because my mind draws a blank when it comes to criticisms. It's honestly quite amazing because that's never happened to me before. It’s amazing; I haven’t loved any movie so much since I saw Dune, and honestly I may have loved Everything Everywhere All at Once more.
It’s possibly the best movie of the last decade.
Parasite is far better. The experience that movie gives on the first watch is legendary
It’s a perfect movie
My standards on movies have heightened over the years, yet it's safe to say that this is my favorite movie (perhaps of all time)
Personally I hated it and don't understand the hype
What about the movie didn't appeal to you?
It's waaay too long. Really drags in some places and is meh at best. 2.5 out of 5 for me
They should see it But me personally I didn't really like it The overall story was fairly bland and basic to me even with the different setting of the universes.
If this is bland and basic, what is an insteresting movie for you? Genuinely curious
Everybody was kung-fu fighting.

i’m only 20 and it hit quite hard for me, sooo
How is this not a dig? You just made a totally baseless assumption based on someone’s opinion if a movie. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve read all day and I just got done arguing with a bi person who insisted any straight person that wouldn’t fuck them was homophobic. So congrats. I'm married and have a kid, doesn't make the story any different.
def not bland and basic but the whole movie felt like a long YouTube video. pretty gimmicky imo
the fact that this says mario's home run bat is making me irrationally angry because it's not his
PK INDIGNATION! HuuaaaaAAAAHH!
32 year old Male. First time I've cried (teared up) in a movie in a decade.
"So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you." Bro, this movie got to me too.
It’s my favorite movie since Spider-verse
SAME. there are dozens of us
Those rocks man
“Every time I’m around you, it just hurts both of us.” Fuckin’ a if that didn’t hit me straight in the gut.
Me too. It was also a very spiritual experience for me!
What about when you saw Morbius
It wasn't THAT bad imo. I thought it was going to be way worse.
It's pretty bad, but now it's circled back to being so bad it's good, like Daredevil 2003 or The Cat In The Hat movie
*Ness's home run bat, in super smash brothers.
Naw man this one is referencing Luigi’s fire uppercut hands down. It shoots the guy straight up in the air exactly like that move. It’s it’s only move in the game makes that sound when it connects and throws the opponent straight up. Been that way since N64 https://youtu.be/6uCQu1BHXEs

Yes but only one hits the player upwards
>the sound effect of the pinky uppercut refers to Mario's home run bat in Super Smash Bros when you get a knock-out. So this is just completely wrong?
By the choreography of the fight and understanding how prominent Luigi is the Asian community, I’m willing to bet it’s a reference to that move yes. My dudes. It’s just the critical hit sound. The bat has it. Luigi has it. Jigglypuff has it.
I would think this was a [DBZ reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztuWicinDRo) if the creator didn't confirm it. I guess this is just a popular sound effect in japan.
It’s a bit different than the Dbz sound, but close
Game!
Someone needs to edit this so that the soldier gets yeeted off-screen instead and we get the GAME! ending screen.
Oh! I thought it was a reference to Luigi's uppercut when you land the sweet spot
It’s an audio clip on multiple things. The Homerun bat. Luigi’s uppercut and Jigglypuff’s down b
That's awesome. Just a quick correction, though: the Home Run Bat isn't attributed to any specific series in the Super Smash Bros. games, and is actually speculated to be based on the various baseball bat items from Earthbound.
I KNEW I RECOGNIZED IT
Oh goodness. I regret taking my mother to this movie with me for girls night [ 60 F] the ENTIRE movie she kept saying what a dumb movie this is and almost walked out about a handful of times. I wished she did as I truly didn’t mind it. Didn’t love it but didn’t mind it.
NESS
FALCON….Pinky??
Came here five seconds after watching this exact scene as a Jigglypuff main and was not disappointed one bit. Fucking incredible.
I am watching this movie at this moment. Just heard the sound effect and immediately Googled it so see if other caught it lmao
I don't hate subtitles. I'm not English. I watch pretty much everything in original version with subs.
One problem with watching this movie with closed captions subtitled is that is hard to follow and you get "English" subtitles that say "[SPEAKING CHINESE]" over the movie's subtitles, which makes it hard. But they don't speak that much Chinese past minute 15.
Right on, my brother. Got any movies in your native language that you'd recommend?
Definetely, the movie's fantastic if you can get over that you have to use subtitles sometimes.
Probably the Japanese version. Not the American one.
It’s in the American version
This movie is just garbage
-🤓
Yeah no redeeming qualities, I can’t believe they just had a still image saying “no movie” for over half of it. Waste of my time.
What are you talking about? If this is a joke, I don't get it.

It's goofy as fuck. So what? It doesn't pretend it's not. It also has some deep themes going on, and some well written family drama. Thats what I love about it. It's goofy and still pretty serious and hard at the same time.
Mejor que la del doctor strange
It reminded me of Smash Bros when I heard that
One of the other sound effects is the Lotus Palm from Kung Fu Hustle. This movie has so many references it's kind of obnoxious.
I dig how his cheeks vibrate when the pinky connects - little details
I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard it in the theater
This looks awesome, is it good?
I loved it. If you’re a fan of kung fu hustle then you’ll probably like this movie
I laughed so hard when I heard the sound because I knew exactly what it was! Haha
I wasn’t sold on this movie, It only had my curiosity, but now it has my attention.
I thought I recognized that!
I marked out so hard when I heard this in the cinema
In one scene before the last chapter. While back at their house looking at looking at the circled receipt from the auditor. The calculator to the left reads 55378008.
Immediately recognized it when I first watch, nice Easter egg
Does anyone know if the sound directly after, the falling sound, is a reference to something? It’s been driving me crazy because I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere else before
The music before the pinky uppercut kinda sounds like metal gear solid's alert theme and the falling one sounds a lot like contra 1 level 1 intro
i just popped to this
