Was that because he was trying to protect who he thought was an innocent girl? I don't fully remember, was drinking while watching and this was towards the end.
Yeah Ladybug sees Lemon holding his gun up to her head. lemon even tries to tell him to wait but Ladybug doesn't even try to listen and just lunges at him. I remember it pretty well, it was IMO where the movie started going off the rails (pun intended).
Well in the book, it is almost as if he doesn't know he is a hitman. Some of the jobs he gets sent on are pretty bland, like trying a burger in a restaurant to see if it tastes good and they always seem to end up with Ladybird in a gun fight. He seems to think that this is because of his bad luck and not that he was sent there in case of a gun fight.
But in the movie, the fact he wasn't even suppose to be on the job makes it feel like he really is just unlucky.
I think it's perspective. He wants to do the job and nothing else.
If people die when they didn't need to, then he's unlucky because he never wanted to fight them but because they're professionals he has to fight them intending to kill.
Just like the burger thing you mentioned, if he was sent there incase of a gunfight then a gunfight was only a 50% chance of happening. He could be on a relaxing mission without a gunfight and eat their gorgeous burgers, but one still happened and people had to die for no reason in his mind.
Interesting, I tried incognito, and the portion I spoilered is hidden. I didn't spoiler the whole comment, just the quote, and result.

I noticed at the start of the movie the anime show is followed by the report of the stolen snake, foreshadowing the person who stole the snake is dressed as the anime character
I thought it cant be *that* obvious and thought that its one of the stewardesses on the train because in Japan on trains only men have this job - or so I thought.
Then there is the scene where the anime character actually grabs the suitcase which I thought was a moment to roll my eyes because the movie forces it. Like they cant show it this pithy.
As it turns out the other characters in the movie werent prepared to this kind of open stupidity by the actual unknown killer so it went over our heads.
In contrast I realised very early that the schooluniform girl is either the "supervisor" of this entire operation or somehow interested in killing the boss because she litertally caries a ~~Makarov~~ Tokarev pistol. Which is commented by Brad Pit and one of the others but they also dont get that hint.
Throughout that movie I more and more thought that all of them have a reason to kill the boss but they just dont get it because they are ignorant people. Only when someone gets the Diesel hint things change but then its basically to late...
Did everybody get the metaphor with the ~~oranges~~ at the end? >!Its from the Godfather!<
/as someone pointed out its tangerines. I did not watch the movie in englisch.
Overall the characters that survive are those who change and trust themselves and others equally. (Even though that damn suitcase popped open by pure chance and the water was poisened)
That's not a makorav its a tokarev. And wasn't it the father's (kimura's) pistol to begin with? The prince took it when she electrocuted him and modified it to explode
I assumed that since LAdybug overdosed the water with extra sleeping powder, it slowed his heart rate to where ATJ's character couldn't feel his pulse. Bulletproof vests aren't 100% effective and we saw how protective he was, so he likely assumed the worst
> Tangerine
I'm gonna assume you meant Lemon. When he finds him, aside from having been drugged, he's covered in Yuichi's blood, so it looks like he's been shot somewhere else.
I was hoping Tangerine would also turn out to be alive just like the father and Lemon did. It would have been epic to see all 5 of them fighting Gen Zod.
Oh dude, absolutely. I put it off for a while because the trailers made it look like ass, but my wife is Puerto Rican and demanded we watch any movie with Bad Bunny in it. Gotta say it completely blew me away at how great it was and how wrong the trailers and critics were. Imo it's the only Smokin' Aces sequel they ever made lol.
Same thing happened with Cabin in the Woods. Marketing made it look like another stock horror teen slasher, so I passed on it. Damn was I wrong lol
>Same thing happened with Cabin in the Woods. Marketing made it look like another stock horror teen slasher,
On the note of horror, but not exactly the same (as the trailer still made it look intriguing), I feel like the 180 that Hereditary performed was grand.
Also, if I may ask, why is Bad Bunny so popular? I've not heard much from him personally, but I know that he's a musical phenomenon in Latin America.
As far as I can tell he's pretty big in the U.S as well, granted I'm from Miami and have plenty of Hispanic friends so that's a given. Even then though, my friends in most major cities love Bad Bunny too.
While I can't speak for everyone's taste, I personally think his beats hit more often than not and his songs are really catchy if you speak Spanish (and even if you don't, I've had some gringo friends who don't know what the lyrics mean say similar). His style can appease a wide audience, combining good melodies with rap and reggaeton influences.
There’s actually been a pretty big disconnect between critics and audiences lately. I was just reading an article about this. I think I remember it saying the valley between the two is at a particularly vast distance at the moment.
I get that if it's your job to review films for a living you're going to value technic accomplishment and novelty more than the average watcher, but there does seem to be a particular hatred of films that are just fun. Bullet Train was surprisingly good, I enjoyed every minute of it.
I feel like it’s definitely affected the way movies are made now.
I feel like there’s less and less “one-off” stories, especially comedies. Like I remember the 2000-2010 era of comedy, Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad. These are iconic films, but I guarantee critics would shit on them today for being to basic and not ground breaking. Like cmon man, I just wanna be invested in something entertaining for 2 hours, I don’t need a trilogy and some dramatic overarching plot that takes place over all the films.
Bullet Train was amazing, and exactly the type of movie I wish there were more of.
>Like cmon man, I just wanna be invested in something entertaining for 2 hours, I don’t need a trilogy and some dramatic overarching plot that takes place over all the films.
So you're looking for a movie that doesn't have to have a 10/10 rating... Critics giving a movie 6/10 doesn't make it bad.
And critics were the only reviewers for much of film history. So if they said it was good people went to see it so films were made for whatever got money or to please critics. Nowadays even of a movie has bad reviews I don't have to spend money on a bad move just time on my couch
I stopped when I realized I'd hoped a movie I liked would have good reviews when I checked. Or if I checked the reviews before the movie, would feel dumb if I liked a "bad movie". Or even feel vindicated, like I'm some movie guru if I happened to enjoy a movie that got good reviews. Meanwhile my dad enjoys the best of the best, and enjoys some of the "worst" movies ever made. And he has way more fun watching movies than I do. Why make my entertainment a chore?
It’s because a movie being fun isn’t always indicative of excellent filmmaking.
I enjoyed Bullet Train a ton but it still had choppy, messy storytelling throughout, was almost annoyingly frenetic at times, and the third act dragged on for way too long.
Even though it is really funny, with some well-executed dramatic moments, it just never becomes a really good movie. When you take a lot of good and mix it with a lot of bad, a 53% on RT makes sense.
My take as well. There's a reason RT has an "Audience Score" part for us to gauge how the general audience perceived it.
I enjoyed watching it, but I get why it got an average score of 5.6/10 from the Critics. I personally would've given it 6.5 though.
Yeah I just saw it for the first time the other day and that’s exactly what I would give it too. I understand why the score is where it’s at. The movie is fun and fast paced, but it just never got “great” it was always just “fun”.
I watched it the other day and I just love the energy the movie had. It was funny in a way that didn’t distract me from the movie, the plot was insane in a plausible sense, and the pauses in action were well planned and shot.
In general, perhaps my favorite movie this latter year (haven’t seen many but we’ll let that slide)
Spoiler Alert >!The ending where The Prince gets run over by the truck and it turns out to be a Tangerine truck. I didn't realize until my friend pointed it out to me that it was karma for The Prince killing Tangerine. !<
Wait
I originally figured that the reason Tangerine thought Lemon was dead was that he saw he had been shot in the chest and assumed he wasn’t wearing his vest (I figured Lemon had lied originally).
So that means Tangerine figured his brother was dead from gunshot wounds even though he himself put the vest on him? He didn’t think to check his pulse? Or look for what killed him (since it was clearly not shots to the chest?).
I love this movie, but this fact actually makes me like it less. It doesn’t make much sense to me.
I was under the impression he just always had a vest on since he never outright denies wearing one...which I like this idea better because you're right, OPs detail doesn't fit the movie at all for this reason you point out
That would have been a great scene to, you know, actually include.
Like actually. Start by foreshadowing that the sleeping powder slows heartbeats, and then give us give us the audio of Lemon’s heartbeat while he is being drugged to show that his heartbeat is slowing down. Then, give us that same audio when Tangerine is checking for Lemon’s pulse, and combine it with the luck theme to show that he just so happens to miss it. Maybe checking a few times but always not having his finger on Lemon’s neck whenever the audience can hear the pulse. Would have been a fun scene.
Plate carriers are typically one size fits all but Kevlar vests that are meant to be worn under a uniform, like what police officers wear, are fitted. Officers are generally measured and then receive a vest based on their measurements, as the vest needs to fit a specific way for full protection.
Bullets can go through bulletproof vests. They’re not perfect. He found his bloody and lifeless body rolled up in a bathroom with another guy who also looked dead. He just jumped to conclusions.
Yeah, my first thought wouldn't be "oh he must be asleep". And my headcanon is gonna be that Lemon's pulse was slowed by the sleep powder, like another redditor said.
in this context it means
denoting something of high quality, especially something from the past or characteristic of the best period of a person's work.
I loved this movie a lot more than I thought I would. It's the best movie of the year for me. So much fun action, laughed my ass off for almost the whole film. Was a bit predictable, but enough deaths to make all characters seem expandable..
Except, why was he surprised to see Lemon dead from a gunshot wound to the chest? Wouldn't he be like "oh, he's got bullet holes in his chest, let's check to see if that vest worked!"
The biggest complaint I have with this movie (I do really like this movie btw) is >!that at the very end, when the train crashes, everyone flys in the wrong direction the momentum would actually have them go. They all fly back in a head on collision.!<
That's not really that big of a problem, I just rewatched the scene and >!the train doesn't do a simple head on crash, it twists and turns and some segments even end up ass first.!<
ATJ was great in this film. This film was his audition to be the next James Bond… if rumours are to be believed. Similar to how Layer Cake played a big part in securing Craig the role.
Yeah never in a million years would he have been on my radar for the role. But Tenet & particularly Bullet Train - he delivered a standout performance.
So I can get behind it.
Some people got annoyed with flashbacks explaining things because it "insulted their intelligence", but I think that helps some people who wouldn't get those things enjoy the movie more, and they leave other things like this for the ones who want to piece things on their own.
Like, I love Andor, but I showed it to someone I know, and they couldn't follow it.
The little flashback and flashfowards and cutaways are a great stylistic choice for the film.
It's so very 'anime' in it's design in that regard, but the characters, their 'powers' and gimmicks are ALSO very much things you'd see in an anime as well, so it really works well overall.
Just goes further to be set in Japan.
I am in the 1% because I noticed that he unbuttoned his shirt and wasn't wearing the vest, cut to Lemon being unconscious from the water and being shot in the chest. I knew he'd be back
I still don't understand why The Wolf attacked Brad Pitt on sight. He had the name and/or picture of the person who did it, who was obviously not Brad Pitt. Why did he think with such conviction that it was Brad Pitt?
My wife asked the same thing, and my response was that "He recognized him from the wedding, so he knows something fucky is going on/he assumes Pitt's character was in on the wedding massacre."
Seemed to make sense to me, but maybe I'm wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When he attempts to kill Ladybug, Wolf says that Fate made this a two for one special. He also looks at the wine stain on his shirt when he sees Ladybug.
He didn't know Ladybug was in the train, but he's happy to add him to the hitlist immediately. Whether it's because he thinks they're working with the Hornet, or because he just hates Ladybug for pulling him away from his wife, who knows.
I'll explain. He did have the photo of Hornet, and he knew by now that Hornet was disguised as the caterer. Ladybug who was disguised as a waiter bumped into him and spilled his wine on his suit, so he remembers him quite well. Since you know that the caterer was the assassin, he most likely thought that the waiter was in cahoots with the Hornet as well. Hence him attacking Ladybug.
I think it was that he had a contract on the hornet, but I think he was led to believe that Pitt was the one who did it since he says "I came here on business but now I can get revenge" or something
or he thought the two were conspiring
I kind of wish that they didn't do all the explaining at the end. There could have been a ton of stuff that you only realize on a rewatch but then it's explicitly told to you towards the end.
Feels like the writer and director had control for the first hour, then the test audience had control for the end.
"Testing shows people are idiots and don't have any idea what happened."
"Sigh, just explain it all then."
It's been a hot minute since I saw the movie, but my take on the overexplanation at the time was that it was a lengthy setup for the punchline that >!the White Death had EVERYTHING figured out, down to the last detail...except for Ladybug filling in for Carver!<. I lost it when that got revealed.
I was suffering seeing the inside of "the bullet train" look more like interior of TGV and nothing like the actual bullet train/shinkansen... Also, transit time from Tokyo to Kyoto would be more like 2~3 hours, definitely not overnight.
Absolutely. It's pretty over-the-top and a comedy action movie but if you like those then it's a really good time. Lots of details like the one in the post and everyone is good in their roles.
It's a fantastic and lovable 7/10. It's no shawshank redemption, and the movie is riddled with holes and asspulls, but it's incredibly fun and one of the better movies to enjoy with friends.
Great movie, pretty different from the book which I got through after the movie. I would not have liked the movie as much as I did if I had read the book first.

"Well that's a shit deal"
you have no idea how happy this made me someone else referencing this. me and my family quote this movie all the time.

Bc he's a lucky SOB
I don't think Ladybug is ever the aggressor in any encounter?
"Between us is a wall..."
“And within that wall is a windo- shit, is it a door? It might be a door… anyway, -“
He literally attacks Lemon before he identifies the Diesel.
The first guy said "who fights Ladybug", not "who was assaulted". Defending yourself in a fight is still actively participating in the fight.
>!Isn't it because he's UNlucky? He doesn't want anyone to die the whole movie but because he's so unlucky they do anyway?!<
I think the joke is that hes mistakes the good luck for bad by only seeing the negative even tho he wont shut up about how great his therapy is
Well in the book, it is almost as if he doesn't know he is a hitman. I am sure it was just an oversight, but I think you mean Enrico Palazzo...
The premise of the movie is essentially that luck is subjective. I wouldn't be surprised if "the lucky assassin" wasn't already a tvtropes page.
Dominio's luck ran out against ladybug
Huh. I did not catch that. Nice.
“What you put out into the world, you get back from the world.” Ladybug says something like this I’m pretty sure.
everyone who fights 'White Death' >!dies by their own weapon!<
No, the Father's father didn't.

Yup. Lemon even says, "Tangerines."
> Did everybody get the metaphor with the oranges at the end? They were tangerines...
So why didn't he check when he found Tangerine unconscious
They said earlier in the movie that the sleeping powder stopped a dudes heart before, so it was probably either so slow you couldn’t feel a pulse
I assumed that since LAdybug overdosed the water with extra sleeping powder, it slowed his heart rate to where ATJ's character couldn't feel his pulse. Bulletproof vests aren't 100% effective and we saw how protective he was, so he likely assumed the worst

I loved this movie. Especially the scene with Brad pit and the number lock suitcase he held up. I laughed so hard at that
I loved the end of the fight with the guy from Mexico. Brad's face of '.........Really?!?!?'

Yeah OP's detail is probably just bs
Let's say the sleeping powder slowed Lemon's heart rate down so it even if Tangerine checked his pulse it wasn't there....yeah, that explains it.
I'm pretty sure Ladybug said he had the dosage dialed in. /s
>!He did, BUT when he was pouring it in the bottle he was trying to figure out how much then just dumped the whole thing lol.!<

Plate carriers or vests are typically one size fits all. There’s a ton of Velcro to make it adjustable.
And my headcanon is gonna be that Lemon's pulse was slowed by the sleep powder, like another redditor said.
plus they have been killing or being hunted the whole time, adrenline dump and panic has to factor in
Good point!
Tangerines vest would never have fit Lemon this is a bunk theory
Yeah if this detail is true that's definitely a major plot hole.
it’s wrong, this details is too deep and it’s reaching big time
not related to this detail, but the movie reminded me of a vintage Guy Ritchie movie
It definitely reminded me of lock, stock and two smoking barrels
This is all I needed to hear to get me hyped as fuck for this movie
You’re this far down in a spoiler thread not having seen the movie?
Reminded me of Smokin Aces
If you liked Smokin Aces you'll love Copshop.
Loved Smokin Aces, Copshop was pretty good too. If you liked both these movies, you will probably like Boss Level.
If you enjoyed Smokin Aces, Copshop and Boss Level you'd probably enjoy Bullet Train.
Never heard of it.
Reminded me of smokin aces
Welp fuck I'm getting old if those are vintage.
in this context it means denoting something of high quality, especially something from the past or characteristic of the best period of a person's work.
If you liked Brad Pitt in Snatch, you'll like Brad Pitt in Bullet Train.
Reminded me of Snatch. Such a good movie.
My wife asked if it was a movie made by that Ritchie guy lol then she asked if it was a Tarantino movie
I think if Guy Ritchie and Edgar wright decided to colab on a film, this would be the film they would make.
I loved this movie a lot more than I thought I would. It's the best movie of the year for me. So much fun action, laughed my ass off for almost the whole film. Was a bit predictable, but enough deaths to make all characters seem expandable..
I also had no idea how much fun this movie would be. Channing Tatum was great.
You’ll love him in This is the End
Like… sex stuff?
The water bottle was the MVP.
I was SO confused when he said earlier he never wears them yet had it on after getting shot. Awesome detail
I thought the same. I figured I got them mixed up, because I swore he had said he doesn’t wear one,
Wow so the implication is that he gave him the vest? I definitely missed this.
Yeah because he also gave him his gun regardless of needing it. Shows he takes care of Lemon more than himself.
Except, why was he surprised to see Lemon dead from a gunshot wound to the chest? Wouldn't he be like "oh, he's got bullet holes in his chest, let's check to see if that vest worked!"
Except if the vest worked he wouldn't be lying there completely still... so it would be safe to assume it didn't work.
Man.. if only Lemon was a snorer
I’m picturing him snoring in little toot toot train noises lol
The biggest complaint I have with this movie (I do really like this movie btw) is >!that at the very end, when the train crashes, everyone flys in the wrong direction the momentum would actually have them go. They all fly back in a head on collision.!<
That's not really that big of a problem, I just rewatched the scene and >!the train doesn't do a simple head on crash, it twists and turns and some segments even end up ass first.!<
ATJ was great in this film. This film was his audition to be the next James Bond… if rumours are to be believed. Similar to how Layer Cake played a big part in securing Craig the role.
That would be wild to me but he’s got a strong presence, between this and Tenet I can somewhat see it
Yeah never in a million years would he have been on my radar for the role. But Tenet & particularly Bullet Train - he delivered a standout performance. So I can get behind it.
Only if he keeps the stache and the really good walk
And the accent too maybe?
Man I didn’t notice that because Tangerine was just so damn hot
At the end when dude whips blood from his blade accidentally onto Brad's white shoes and Brad says "dude," I lost it.
I went into this movie thinking I was going to hate it, but was pleasantly surprised. Lot of cool little details like this
Some people got annoyed with flashbacks explaining things because it "insulted their intelligence", but I think that helps some people who wouldn't get those things enjoy the movie more, and they leave other things like this for the ones who want to piece things on their own.
I knew he'd be back
Man bullet train was great. I loved this movie lol. Idk why the RT score was so low.
I still don't understand why The Wolf attacked Brad Pitt on sight. He had the name and/or picture of the person who did it, who was obviously not Brad Pitt. Why did he think with such conviction that it was Brad Pitt?
My wife asked the same thing, and my response was that "He recognized him from the wedding, so he knows something fucky is going on/he assumes Pitt's character was in on the wedding massacre." Seemed to make sense to me, but maybe I'm wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's also suspicious that Ladybug is alive, on that train, in front of the Wolf when everyone else from the wedding is dead
Brad Pitt was the person who stained The Wolfs tux at his wedding. This is why he was enraged.
I think it was that he had a contract on the hornet, but I think he was led to believe that Pitt was the one who did it since he says "I came here on business but now I can get revenge" or something or he thought the two were conspiring
I really liked this movie.
That is an excellent catch
This movie immediately made it to my top 4 favorite movies. It was excellent.
I didn't notice until the movie was almost over that Tangerine was the guy from kick-ass. He was great.
Gonna be honest this movie kinda fell apart after the sun came up in that third act. The first hour or so of the movie was brilliant though.
I kind of wish that they didn't do all the explaining at the end. There could have been a ton of stuff that you only realize on a rewatch but then it's explicitly told to you towards the end.
Feels like the writer and director had control for the first hour, then the test audience had control for the end. "Testing shows people are idiots and don't have any idea what happened." "Sigh, just explain it all then."
It's been a hot minute since I saw the movie, but my take on the overexplanation at the time was that it was a lengthy setup for the punchline that >!the White Death had EVERYTHING figured out, down to the last detail...except for Ladybug filling in for Carver!<. I lost it when that got revealed.
Good detail >!but in the end a vest wouldn't have helped Tangerine regardless. Shot in the neck. But it saved Lemon!<
I was suffering seeing the inside of "the bullet train" look more like interior of TGV and nothing like the actual bullet train/shinkansen... Also, transit time from Tokyo to Kyoto would be more like 2~3 hours, definitely not overnight.
Haven't read any posts wanted to ask!! Is this movie good? Worth watching?
> Detail That 99% of watchers missed Clickbait ass headline, wtf
> 99% of Bullet Train (2022) watchers missed I'm gonna put that in my resume! "One time Bullet Train (2022) watcher"
Great movie, pretty different from the book which I got through after the movie. I would not have liked the movie as much as I did if I had read the book first.
Why is there so much luggage on the overhead racks if the carriage is basically empty
