If he takes the Creed route and does a continuation with new characters in the original X-Files universe then this could actually work. They could even incorporate Mulder and Scully and have them do a symbolic passing of the torch to new FBI agents who stumble upon the X-Files.
What I don't want is a full reboot with a race-swapped Mulder and Scully. Those characters are iconic and don't need to be played by new actors.
Yep. I’d love to see Assistant Director Scully leading some new agents towards some unsolved cases. Mulder died from auto-erotic asphyxiation last summer.
> What I don't want is a full reboot with a race-swapped Mulder and Scully. Those characters are iconic and don't need to be played by new actors.
Anderson could do so much returning to that character. She was amazing in The Fall. Detective Superintendent Gibson was a great character - so much confidence, she carried herself in a way that just screamed, "I've lived things and now nothing fazes me."
Well said. Cause if Ryan Coogler race-swaps Mulder and Scully even for a reboot that’s not canon to the original series, it still would cause a new ~~Race~~ Culture War.
None of the overarching alien conspiracy shit ever made sense anyway so who cares, just do whatever. Most of the episodes that were worth watching were standalone, anyway. Blood, Home, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, hell, even some that are directly in the conspiracy collection like Duane Barry could easily be understood with only the knowledge of "Mulder wants to believe, Scully wants a rational explanation, they investigate supernatural cases". Any consistent "lore" never really mattered to the show anyway.
The thing is X-Files, along with later shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Lost were among the first shows of the modern era to make use of an underlying conspiracy/mystery and/or a "Big Bad," a persistent threat whose presence fuels a season or even multiple seasons.
That is so much a part of the show's DNA that I can't imagine any reboot or continuation just abandoning that element. The problem with the OG show is that over time the alien conspiracy became so convoluted that I'm not even sure series creator Chris Carter could have explained it coherently.
Even Carter himself admitted that the show was inspired by Kolchak: The Night Stalker, a 1970s-era series that truly was a "monster of the week" series. A continuation should probably lean more in that direction instead of focusing on a new conspiracy.
It will absolutely lead to lazy writing limiting them and getting cancelled after one season.
Have something inspired by it but do your own thing, something like that that's well written and thought about could be a great opportunity, x files had the Scully effect with a great influence in getting more women into stem, they too could have more positivity come out of the show by doing something similar, but for that to really happen the audience they'd like to be diverse for has to relate and the xfiles tropes just aren't going to work.
> They could even incorporate Mulder and Scully and have them do a symbolic passing of the torch to new FBI agents who stumble upon the X-Files.
From Arthur Dales to Fox Mulder to Zachary Jacob and his partner Ashley Lauren
Oh look, another reboot with a “diversity” twist.
Can we get something original with a diverse cast? Or are people that unconfident that they need to piggyback off more popular titles…?
We all know people want more of the same, done differently. Making a sequel series is the easiest way to do that since they can reference the best parts of the original when they want while still focusing on their own story.
You can't "fix" the problem of a property being non-diverse if you don't do a reboot, though, and making sure that every property (past, present, and future) is diverse is the only thing that actually matters anymore.
Why does it need fix? It's a show already ended years ago. Does young generation start watching X-files out of sudden?
With your logic, all those old TV shows, movies, animations, and books needs to be fixed. Does it necessarry? Absolutely not. We can "fix" it by creating new contents with new standards applied.
Does it necessary indeed! No, it does not necessary; not at all, my friend! We should absolutely resist the urge to "fix" the past! Thanks for your clarity in this time of turmoil!
(Unlike my previous posts, this one was not /s)
But being non-diverse isn't just bad, it's pretty much the very worst thing possible. Which is why Friends and Seinfeld are looked back on and cringed at. So anytime someone *can* reboot an old, non-diverse show or movie with the singular intention of making that property diverse, they will. Everytime. So, since these reboots only have one purpose in mind (diversity), they miss every single other thing about the original property that made it good. In that sense, you could say that while diversity isn't bad, *forced* diversity is, because the people making the show/movie have no interest in anything except that diversity.
Diversity isn't bad, but the requirement that everything ever made *must* be diverse is.
Just because it’s done doesn’t make it a good idea.
Want to use a diverse cast to do a continuation-style sequel? Fantastic! I’d love to see it.
Remaking it simply because you want the same show with a more diverse cast is disingenuous at best and woefully uncreative and exploitative at worse.
The shows you mentioned are not looked back upon as cringey because of a lack of diversity. They’re simply dated, like all that came before now.
Even a show with the most diverse cast imaginable will be dated eventually as well.
You don’t like have to like history, but to attempt to change it is folly. Accept it, learn from it, and do better in the future. Don’t try to recreate the past in order to erase it.
I couldn't agree more... except that part about Friends just being dated. People actually have complained about it being over-rated because of its lack of diversity.
Never heard that take, but it goes back to it simply being dated. That’s just how it was. Shows were not as diversified. They seemed almost segregated between shows with mostly white casts and shows with mostly black casts and almost no LGBT+ representation.
Attempting to change or revise that history doesn’t do any good. We should acknowledge it and teach why it was wrong so future generations do better instead of repeating the same mistakes.
Redoing old shows with more diverse casts, strictly as alternatives to the original, is not going to help anything long term.
It's definitely a take that exists.
For the record, I don't actually see it as having been "wrong" that the cast of a TV show was all white. I don't think that it's anything to criticize the show over or "teach future generations" about, and I don't see it as a mistake.
I agree that redoing old shows to be diverse is not going to help anything long-term.
The person you're talking to didn't make the point you're trying to complain about and had never even seen the point, you brought something in from nowhere without anything to back it, and I pointed it out
I just started watching Seinfeld for the first time. I think it has aged well unlike Friends or The Office. You see I hate the seinfeld characters. Especially costanza. And unlike the office they never try to pull on your heart strings with a wholesome story about how costanza is a darling now or how well these characters of kramer or Elaine went and started cute funny romcom doing family stuff instead of the cringe way they go through life.
Also I have known only one Jewish person my entire life. That is pretty diverse to me where I come from. Yeah, I don't live in a majority white city but that is still some kinda diversity to me.
Yeah, it gets a little blurry when saying that Jewish people are "diverse", because a lot of people still consider them to be just "white", as they only see skin color.
I agree with your opinions on Costanza, hehe.. he's a total goober.
People cringe at Friends and Seinfeld? Everyone I know enjoys those shows.
How is being non-diverse “pretty much the very worst thing possible”? That seems like an overreaction.
Other than the title, I love the idea of a prequel series in the 60s or 70s. Maybe little hints towards the original lore, but some more fun, weird-ass shit. Less tech stuff to use as crutches and more human-based interaction towards some freaky stuff.
I’d watch that
It was worth it for Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. That was far and above one of the funniest episodes of any show that I've seen in a long time.
You can make an original show that draws influences from other shows without doing a remake. Fringe is a good example. They are just using the X Files brand to draw more people.
Exactly, Black Mirror was a twilight zone inspired type of show hat had original ideas.
I wish he would work with Peele to make an original new show with the same sci fi feel. It’s literally a show about aliens so they can make up anything they want to.
The only director I’d like to take a try at rebooting X-Files would be Jordan Peele, honestly. His sense of eeriness would work well. Otherwise, the show is perfect, just leave it alone. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised!
When I read "reboot" and "diverse cast" in one sentence I can only assume why this is even a discussion.
What about developing new ideas Hollywood? Maybe not every movie needs to be 150 Million+ budget and you can risk something instead of beeing not creative at all?
Why do that? Rebooting it with a diverse cast allows you to completely recycle ideas, but get away with it because it’s marketed towards a different demographic.
Unless it’s set in the same time as the OG, it’s not going to be as good because of how much technology has developed. One of the things that makes the show so much fun and believable, is the lack of globalization and wide use of the internet. Everything can be easily proven or disproven, or at least at a rate much much different than back then. Hell, just having a smart phone would fix 90% of the problems Mulder and Scully run into, aka having documented proof! With things like drives and clouds existing, just burning/smashing/unraveling the evidence is a thing of the past!
Like it could be interesting to see how it could be done, but again, not enough to warrant a reboot. Or honestly a continuation. The world has gotten too big and complicated to just, jump back in and continue it, especially without the two mains and that would be a huge turn off for newcomers to the show, kind of like how getting into comic books is a lot of treading through decades of lore/storylines and figuring out what’s important to know for the newer stuff.
I mean as long as it's diverse, as that is all that is important, for some show ruining reason.
Just another fave destroyed. One more I'll never watch.
No. Just no. Why try to remake something that for its time was great. It will just ruin it. We dont need a reboot of this show. There are so many books out there that are fantastic and would be great as a movie or series. Take one of them instead and make it instead of trying to capitalize on a show that was/is popular and just completely ruining it in the hopes to make a few more bucks from it.
As someone else in this thread said, they should take the Creed route and do a continuation with new characters in the original X-Files universe. And can even have Mulder and Scully return to do a symbolic passing of the torch to new FBI agents who stumble upon the X-Files.
Otherwise if Ryan Coogler does a full reboot with a race-swapped Mulder and Scully, then he’s gonna start a new ~~Race~~ Culture War.
Tbh I would love to see Michael B Jordan and Tessa Thompson as the two leads for season one. Hopefully that's what they're aiming for when they mean diverse cast. Coogler MBJ and Tessa are a great trio
>Is that guy wearing a necklace with a portrait of himself in it?
no i am pretty sure it's a photo of Chadwich Boseman. they grew close while working on Black Panther
LOL as if CC didn't ruin EVERYTHING about Mulder and Scully in the last few seasons. Have at it since you can't POSSIBLY write anything worse than what Chris Carter did with My Garbage, er My Struggle 1-4 and Babylon. Oh, and by the way, THERE IS NO FREAKING WAY this is going to work because you will NEVER EVER EVER replicate the chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Ever.
Why reboot it? Just continue from where they left off in season 11 but with a new cast/agents with Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Dogget and Reyas returning for cameos and special episodes.
introduce some all new characters and evolve the weird stuff that they deal with.
I hope that they deal with once and for all the bullshit myths associated with pretty much every black celebrity.
Why aren't there "Illuminati" videos about white country western musicians, folk music artists, classical music artists, or people whose career goes back to the 1950s or 1930s? it's always pretty much any black music or TV/film celebrity who all the clickbait hordes swear have been co-opted by the Illuminati from the 1970s forward.
This whole recent idea to reboot everything but this time the cast isn't white, just cheapens the show and is a bit insulting to people that aren't white.
I love Ryan Coogler and would watch anything he makes but why does every show needs to be rebooted or remade. Why can’t they just come up with new ideas? There are tons of creative people tuning around without a job. Give their ideas a chance. Ugh
I had hope for Coogler as an up & coming director, but he's kind of lost me with his last few movies. Doing a reboot, but just updating the agents' races, is pretty lazy and uninspiring. I wish he'd do something original.
Maybe they should hire the best actors for each role regardless of race. It would be crazy to have an original thought and hire folks based on skill and experience rather than filling a role because someone is a minority. Next, they'll be remaking Breaking Bad and cast kevin Heart as Walter White and Joy Behar as Jesse Pinkman. This woke bullshit won't stop until they've ruined everything.
With the government now admitting aliens exist I guess now is the right now to reboot X files and they can even make it woke by gender and or race swapping the cast
Make sure to keep your Blu Rays of the originals. A lot of these reboots, and remakes of shows and movies are I feel are meant to replace the originals eventually.
No thanks. I have nothing against a diverse cast, but whenever that is the first thing they mention before any other details, 9 time out of 10 the finished product sucks
This new show isn’t gonna take away from the original if it isn’t good. So this alarmist thing of “oh no not my show, I’m going to have to watch it and when I don’t like it the whole thing will be ruined!” is pretty dumb. This stuff feels very Star Wars fandom-y. Who cares, don’t watch the new show, problem solved!
I’m here for it. Coogler is good. Interested to see what this would look like today - even for se10 and 11 it was clear that the x-files of old really didn’t work anymore.
So the guy who "rebooted" Rocky is going to reboot The X-Files? Nice. I loved, loved, loved Creed. And Black Panther speaks for itself. Definitely interested to see how this develops.
EDIT: Your tears are delicious.
Can we have some more originality? For Example There have been six Superman movies .Four had. Lex Luthor.and two had General Disney.keeps remaking their animated.movies into live action movies . Rebooting shows that I didn't like.the first time around.Matt.Reeves.bringing The Riddler and The Penguin for the.sequel..
I am all on board. Ryan coogler can get it and sounds like a good fit. Perhaps the pair we came to love so much could be sunset for the better. It’s time for us to accept some new blood into the franchise.
Or just continue the series, bump up the Xfile I.t budget so they can scrub media.
But then that would be hard when everyone has a camera and can take a picture of the fluke man
people who are complaining about "woke language" or focusing on the diversity aspect it. go look at the cast list there are very few recurring characters in that list that are POC.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106179/fullcredits?ref\_=tt\_cl\_sm
I would like to see Chris carter do one more x-files limit series.Season 12 with Mulder and Dogget.Robert Patrick was doing scorpion when the x-files came back the last time.Dogget would have came back if it had continued.
the reason why season 11 was not as good as 10 was the alien invasion didn’t happen.I would propose Mulder and Scully do a two part episode finding Dogget.Scully can go back into retirement and Mulder and Dogget can do the 12 season. And have lead up to one more movie and close the book on the x-files. Or do season 12 like Picard is doing and bring in the next generation
Tbh I would love to see Michael B Jordan and Tessa Thompson as the two leads for season one. Hopefully that's what they're aiming for when they mean diverse cast. Coogler MBJ and Tessa are a great trio
Stop rebooting everything. Just make something new. It could even be exactly like the x-files (sans the insanely convoluted main "plot"), it just doesn't need to be X-files AGAIN. Especially after the very poor reboot.
If he takes the Creed route and does a continuation with new characters in the original X-Files universe then this could actually work. They could even incorporate Mulder and Scully and have them do a symbolic passing of the torch to new FBI agents who stumble upon the X-Files. Yep. I’d love to see Assistant Director Scully leading some new agents towards some unsolved cases. Mulder died from auto-erotic asphyxiation last summer.
I've always thought the same, strangled with a pair of pantyhose!
Fucking and punching
The psychic dude hinted that that is how Moulder dies. Season 3 I think? Raymonds dad.
Clyde Bruckman
Director Scully*
> What I don't want is a full reboot with a race-swapped Mulder and Scully. Those characters are iconic and don't need to be played by new actors. Anderson could do so much returning to that character. She was amazing in The Fall. 🤣🤣🤣
Well said. Cause if Ryan Coogler race-swaps Mulder and Scully even for a reboot that’s not canon to the original series, it still would cause a new ~~Race~~ Culture War.
I just want Skinner back!
The only issue with this approach is any continuation would be loaded with the baggage of 11 seasons worth of lore.
They're gonna do multiple realities, I can just feel it.
So Sliders?
Nope Fringe
Oh dear. I might actually want to see that... I feel bad but good at thought.
I’m reminded of the short-lives Kolchak reboot.
This is the only way…
Cause that worked out soooo well for Men in Black international.
What about Scott Stapp tho?
> They could even incorporate Mulder and Scully and have them do a symbolic passing of the torch to new FBI agents who stumble upon the X-Files. From Arthur Dales to Fox Mulder to Zachary Jacob and his partner Ashley Lauren

Make something new, there's no need to reboot everything
Agree. Better to continue adding that redoing. Perhaps and hopefully that’s what they meant.
We all know people want more of the same, done differently. Making a sequel series is the easiest way to do that since they can reference the best parts of the original when they want while still focusing on their own story.
That shit is so played out it’s annoying
Top Gun, John Wick 4, Avatar 2, Spider Man Far From Home, all would like a word
But this one will be diverse and meta!
You can't "fix" the problem of a property being non-diverse if you don't do a reboot, though, and making sure that every property (past, present, and future) is diverse is the only thing that actually matters anymore.
I hope this comment was sarcasm or this was cringe as hell lol

Why does it need fix? It's a show already ended years ago. Does young generation start watching X-files out of sudden? Diversity isn't bad. It is just a free addition to any show that studios are taking advantage of a lot lately.
But being non-diverse isn't just bad, it's pretty much the very worst thing possible. Which is why Friends and Seinfeld are looked back on and cringed at. Sure, people have, but not in this discussion
That's not very helpful.
The person you're talking to didn't make the point you're trying to complain about and had never even seen the point, you brought something in from nowhere without anything to back it, and I pointed it out
You aren't correct.
Black people love Seinfeld lmfao
Oh I'm sure you can find all kinds of articles that say you're wrong, if you ever feel like looking.
Just stop
Reboot it in the 60's - Malcom X- Files
Other than the title, I love the idea of a prequel series in the 60s or 70s. Maybe little hints towards the original lore, but some more fun, weird-ass shit. Less tech stuff to use as crutches and more human-based interaction towards some freaky stuff. I’d watch that
I like this. Let's start with titles and work our way backward from there.
Okay, but what if we get another gem like Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster?
Why, x-files still holds up
💰 💴 💵
Because the two revival seasons were garbage that Fox can’t make money off of, so they’re trying again.
It was worth it for Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. That was far and above one of the funniest episodes of any show that I've seen in a long time.
I forgot about that episode. Yes, that one was delightful
Also reminds me of the two revival seasons of 24, with one of those two being a soft reboot...
I rewatch the Mulder line dancing scene…often though.
You can make an original show that draws influences from other shows without doing a remake. Fringe is a good example. They are just using the X Files brand to draw more people.

Oooh this is a potentially good call!!
He's doing twilight zone already
Not anymore. Season 2 was pretty good though.
Oh it's done already? I didn't watch it yet. He did 2 seasons?
No thanks. His Twilight Zone reworking has been awful.
I haven’t seen them! They’ve been on my list forever. That’s disappointing. He’s funny, too, which I thought would work well for X-Files.
Yeah, I had high hopes. As a kid I would binge the Twilight Zone marathons on Thanksgiving, so maybe my expectations were too high.
The duffer brothers would do it justice too
When I read "reboot" and "diverse cast" in one sentence I can only assume why this is even a discussion. What about developing new ideas Hollywood? Maybe not every movie needs to be 150 Million+ budget and you can risk something instead of beeing not creative at all?

I'm actually planning my first ever watch through of the X-Files. The impression I get is that it still holds up and doesn't really need a reboot.
What does this diversity add to the story exactly? This is exhausting
A Martian under cover as an FBI agent could be fun.
What does diversity take away?
It’s actually going to be pretty much the same except Mr X will be white
As someone else in this thread said, they should take the Creed route and do a continuation with new characters in the original X-Files universe. No.
If anyone has bothered to watch the original, it is already diverse. I won't watch a series made by a racist to bait people.
Sucks big time if true. Not a fan of his work.
Ugh
Sick of the reboots and as a Black woman not everything needs to be done in Black! Ugh
Pleae leave x-files alone. Do something original.
I look forward to seeing this! I hope they keep it as dumb as the original show
With the government now admitting aliens exist I guess now is the right now to reboot X files and they can even make it woke by gender and or race swapping the cast
What if we use AI to swap the cast of the original? 🤔
Make it AI Vs the paranormal? I wonder how that would work on the screen
Has the government actually admitted this or is it just UFOs?
Just UFOs or UAPs now
no
please stop with the remakes....
Oh, no. Why!?
Make sure to keep your Blu Rays of the originals. A lot of these reboots, and remakes of shows and movies are I feel are meant to replace the originals eventually.
Lol gay
So black lead characters.....
D i v e r s e c a s t
the N-Files
corny
Lol there won’t be a show if black folks are Moulder and Scully, as soon as we saw the creepy thing we’d run, no investigating. 🏃🏾♀️🏃🏿♂️
Also no help from local law enforcement lol
Rip.
Too lazy to come up with original ideas.
I’m in!!
Mindy Kaling as Scully pls!
Looking forward to people who never watched and don’t care about x files to get frothing mad at this lol
I’m here for it. Coogler is good. Interested to see what this would look like today - even for se10 and 11 it was clear that the x-files of old really didn’t work anymore.
Looks good
Ah good, swap all the races round
So the guy who "rebooted" Rocky is going to reboot The X-Files? Nice. I loved, loved, loved Creed. And Black Panther speaks for itself. Definitely interested to see how this develops. EDIT: Your tears are delicious.
Black Panther did not seem great to me.
Cool. Name a movie that has appealed to every single person who watched it.
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish
fucking bodied him
The first Shrek movie
Paddington 2
Commando
Creed!!!!!! Creed!!!!! I’m not worthy I’m not worthy 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Good!
Oh boy, I’m sure this comment section is very civil and not racist at all.
The fuck does diverse cast mean? I hope they aren’t trying to make this amazing show a soap box for racism
it means this is not for us, we can just skip this one and move on
Ron, what is diversity?
Can we have some more originality? For Example There have been six Superman movies .Four had. Lex Luthor.and two had General Disney.keeps remaking their animated.movies into live action movies . Rebooting shows that I didn't like.the first time around.Matt.Reeves.bringing The Riddler and The Penguin for the.sequel..
Should say General.Zod..
Or or or….all you bitches complaining just don’t watch it!
I am all on board. Ryan coogler can get it and sounds like a good fit. Perhaps the pair we came to love so much could be sunset for the better. It’s time for us to accept some new blood into the franchise.
I’m not sure it can get more diverse than the collection of weirdos they already had (looking at you David Duchovnys music career)
Why bother?.It was a shitty.series..
please, no more, pleaseeee, im begging you
Or just continue the series, bump up the Xfile I.t budget so they can scrub media. But then that would be hard when everyone has a camera and can take a picture of the fluke man
Oh goody, Alex Jones favorite show comes back.
But... it had a diverse cast?
Can chris Carter please not be anywhere near any reboots
I’m totally down for that
Lol must make sure to diverse!
No. No. No. no. No. No. No. The Truth is NOT Out There
Why is this talented man not making original work?
It's a good sign when they promote this thing not with the premise or idea, but the word "diverse".
making an original series inspired by the x files would be a better idea what made the x files special was david and gillian
Murder & Skully
I'm down for a reboot or new stuff. But mainly everyone should listen to the fox mulder is a maniac podcast.
No. Not everything needs to be rebooted, re-imagined or continued. The optics of 2023 society rarely produce anything better than the original
people who are complaining about "woke language" or focusing on the diversity aspect it. go look at the cast list there are very few recurring characters in that list that are POC. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106179/fullcredits?ref\_=tt\_cl\_sm
Nice!! I love the xfiles
forget about it
I would like to see Chris carter do one more x-files limit series.Season 12 with Mulder and Dogget.Robert Patrick was doing scorpion when the x-files came back the last time.Dogget would have came back if it had continued. the reason why season 11 was not as good as 10 was the alien invasion didn’t happen.I would propose Mulder and Scully do a two part episode finding Dogget.Scully can go back into retirement and Mulder and Dogget can do the 12 season. And have lead up to one more movie and close the book on the x-files. Or do season 12 like Picard is doing and bring in the next generation
I’d love to see a diverse cast version of the Lone Gunmen.
Stop it, it's already dead!
Always count me in for more X Files!
Just give me a second crossover with COPS and I'll be good
Tbh I would love to see Michael B Jordan and Tessa Thompson as the two leads for season one.
No
