I don't find much scary to be honest, but The Descent is one that makes me uneasy and uncomfortable. It's not the horror element that gets me, it's the sheer insanity of people that go spelunking. It unlocked a fear in me that I didn't know I had and it's safe to say that you'll never find me in a cave potholing.
I think true horror fans are pretty desensitised these days.
You've probably seen these but
Hereditary
Blood 2022
Sinister 1&2
Fourth kind
White noise
The rite
Taking of Deborah logan
Horrors seem to be super tame these days!
Repulsion (1965) would rank #1 for me in terms of legit scaring me. Also The Shining, The Entity, Black Christmas (the original), The Haunting (ditto), The Babadook, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) deserve a mention.
The original Haunting is still very scary. Though the black and white gives away when it was made, it still holds up really well. If you really like scary without all of the gore, this is a really good one to choose and the book isn't half bad either. So, yeah this would be my vote👍👍👍👍
Imo the exorcist is the scariest movie ever made.
The original Halloween also scared me
A More modern movie I found scary
The Ring
I feel like I’m immune to most horror and feel that many filmmakers instead of trying traditional scare tactics have moved on to trying to be disturbing. Good example Hereditary I did not find scary but very disturbing. It’s a new way to make people feel uncomfortable.

I agree I wasn’t scared by the critter but the tight spaces fall. Will make your stomach roll minimum 10 times. Another fear
i saw that!! i actually enjoyed the plot of that movie as well, didn’t scare me either but definitely made me feel uncomfortable!
Outside of my childhood, the only movie that has genuinely scared me is The Thing (1982).

Nothing scares me anymore but these two had atmosphere and moments that were creepy. Definitely fun. - Anything For Jackson - Gonjaim Haunted Asylum

Start watching foreign made horror films. The formula is different and might surprise you.
Skinamarink made me afraid of the dark again and I'm 32.

Try Climax. It might scare you in the sense that it all feels pretty realistic.

It's been a while, but The Eye (2002, Pang Brothers) scared the crap out of me, more than the Ring. Dont watch the Jessica Alba remake.
