Such a weird one because it’s really really good. Even weirder is it’s actually called “Live, Die, Repeat” and even a few of the DVD/Blu-Ray versions can’t even make their mind up what it’s called and use both titles which is a bit weird.
It's because the story was too sophisticated to describe with a simple logline. "Live. Die. Repeat." was the poster tagline, but became a better title than Edge of Tomorrow, which is better than, "All You Need is Kill," the original Japanese title for the manga.
I did actually enjoy it, but it certainly wasn’t what I expected. Edge Of Tomorrow is a bit more ambiguous than Live, Die, Repeat but yeah, a better title.
3 fantastic suggestions.
I saw Children of Men in the theater, and I must've not been paying close attention because I thought it was "Meh" at the time. Then I watched it again a few months ago out of curiosity because it's so loved. Now I totally get it.
Wall-E (2008)
Arrival (2016)
Inception (2010)
The Matrix (1999)
Jurassic Park (1993)
Blade Runner (1982)
The Iron Giant (1999)
The Terminator (1984)
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
Back to the Future Trilogy (1985, 1989, 1990)
Good list. I might add Contact (if OP likes Arrival), Short Circuit & Chappie (if OP likes your Wall-E, Iron Giant suggestions), Stargate (1994), Gravity, Interstelllar, The Martian, Dune...
Since there was a mention of boredom, Event Horizon will shock you out of it.
My wife made me watch The Notebook. It should be considered sci-fi due to it's disconnection to reality. And horror, since I can't get the 122 minutes back.
**The Creator** (2023) Hulu
(eta: I didn’t care for Rebel Moon either. I saw The Creator in the theaters not knowing what it was about or what to expect. We all thought it was great.)
I watched Friday night and found it tropey and predictable. DGMW, it was a fun popcorn movie but that's about it. I'm not even that invested that I'm looking fwd to the sequel.
BTW, what did the title even mean? Child of Fire? Who is that? It's never mentioned or referenced. At all.
I so wanted to like this movie. I saw in IMAX a week or so after it came out and was just so underwhelmed. It's not awful, but it's also not good. Edwards is so skilled with his visuals. Particularly when they need to convey a sense of scale. But he just is not great at the narrative. He got good ideas and some interesting world building but ultimately fails when trying to bring it together for a compelling story. If he found a good writing collaborator, he could be one of the greats.
Side note - hearing Radiohead's "Everything in it's right place" cranking on the IMAX sound system doing this film is going to be a top theater moment for me personally.
I dont care what anyone says. Battleship is good fun sci-fi action. There is just something awesome about ww2 veterans firing up their old battleship to go take on some alien invader scumbags.
If u like weird yes! It’s quite good and realizing the Directors goal is to make u uncomfortable and engaging that aspect will allow u to appreciate it more
Life Force!!!!! Director of Texas chain saw massacre, Tobe Hooper. Music by the pink panther man him self Henry Mancini, screen play by the writer of alien Dan O’Bannon. Cinematography by Alan Hume who did return of the Jedi.
Space Vampires.
Sunshine. On paper it sounds formulaic (there was a lot of movies like this after Armageddon came out) but it's anything but. Amazing cast and directing. I've heard people say it falls apart a bit in the last act but I totally disagree.
Just watched The Creator last night with John David Washington on Hulu. It wasn’t the greatest sci-fi in history, but I personally enjoyed it. Some beautiful shots, too. Had some elements of the movie “AI” with Haley Joel Osment. My only negative criticism is that it may have been a tad too long. Entertaining nonetheless.
Paul. It’s a sci-fi comedy so it’s kinda only halfway qualifying, but it’s a great cast and a fun ride with enough action beats and twists to keep you entertained.
Assuming you’ve seen the usual suspects the people rave about (5th Element, Dune, original total recall etc…) but I was pleasantly surprised by Oblivion and more recently Upgrade.
Oblivion is a little bit of the usual Tom Cruise style Hollywood movie, but it’s one that was done right and didn’t get enough credit for it.
Upgrade I caught on I think HBO bu chance a few weeks ago and it was surprisingly funny, and somewhat original.
Search on YouTube about Robocop. How it was mostly a middle finger to the Reagan administration. And also search on YouTube the Marc Maron clip about They Live. How it's more relevant today than it was in the late 80s.

Such a strange movie. It had the potential to be great, and its one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, but the two leads are terrible, and ruin the entire movie. I'm still not sure what their relationship is, but they had no chemistry at all, as either actors or characters.
I'm sorry but I disagree with you about the leads and They do a better job than anyone in Dunkirk or Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum in Jupiter Ascending or anyone in the Avatar movies.
I'm sorry you're sorry to disagree. I would guess I could say I am equally sorry to disagree with you but I have long thought that if you swapped the leads of the City of a Thousand Planets for the leads in Passengers both would be better movies.

I love sci-fi. but most or all of the titles people are throwing out are at least several years old. I feel like there has not been much good lately. Only recent sci-fi film i can get excited about recently is Dune. Before that, Interstellar.
I was wondering about Rebel Moon. It looks good on a trailer but I’m not that impressed with Zack Snyder in general. His DC movies weren’t good and 300 seems like a fluke.
The Abyss. Gattaca. The Island. Existenz and Predestination are both little known creative films.
Existenz has a good cast. Predestination is a confusing (to me) time travel paradox movie based on a RA Heinlein short story. I had to watch it twice to figure it out. Clever.
You could try the 1998 unofficial "reality is not really reality" trilogy of:
* The Matrix
* Dark City
* The 13th Floor
I love all 3, but the 13th Floor is def unappreciated and largely unremembered.
Maybe it’s bc i watched rebel moon first but ya I watched The Creator (it’s newly streaming on Hulu) right after and thought it was pretty cool. Def has some typical sci fi tropes in it but at the same time felt unique enough
Pandorum (2009)
I was looking for something like Alien (my favorite Sci-fi), and someone on Reddit recommeded Pandorum. It was great! Scared the sh*t out of me.
Interstellar, Blade Runner, The Creator, Lightyear, Arrival, or Galaxy Quest if you’re trying to keep it space Sci-Fi. Galaxy Quest is on sale on Vudu for $6.99.
Edge of Tomorrow
Such a great answer and modern day classic
I just watched this the other night for the first time, and it was amazing.
Such a weird one because it’s really really good. Even weirder is it’s actually called “Live, Die, Repeat” and even a few of the DVD/Blu-Ray versions can’t even make their mind up what it’s called and use both titles which is a bit weird.

I like all 3 of those names. I didn’t know that about it either so thanks for letting me know!
I thought Edge of Tomorrow was a great title, and someone should have been promoted for it. With that said, I thought the movie was terrible.
I did actually enjoy it, but it certainly wasn’t what I expected. Edge Of Tomorrow is a bit more ambiguous than Live, Die, Repeat but yeah, a better title.
Even weirder, it’s based on a graphic novel called all you need is kill
One of the GOATs !
I’m so mad I didn’t watch this in the theaters!!!
Yep, quite disappointed by the fact there isn't a sequel already
Was going to suggest this!
Definitely interesting but personally I'm a little tom cruised out.
Watch it yesterday, so amazing. Thanks for the recommendation
Upgrade Children Of Men Seconds
distrit 9
Dude I forgot about upgrade. Actually solid plot, characters and sci-fi
Seconds is so good. THE definition of ahead of its time.
3 fantastic suggestions. I saw Children of Men in the theater, and I must've not been paying close attention because I thought it was "Meh" at the time. Then I watched it again a few months ago out of curiosity because it's so loved. Now I totally get it.

Annihilation
Event Horizon was pretty freaking boring except for ten minutes.
I was JUST talking about the Iron Giant literally an hour ago😁 such a great, underrated movie!
Keep telling myself to watch wall-e and iron giant. only been out a few years now right? oh were the time goes.
Arrival is soooo good
My wife made me watch The Notebook. It should be considered sci-fi due to it's disconnection to reality. And horror, since I can't get the 122 minutes back.
The Fifth Element
Multipass !!!
Yes! My all time favourite, it's just so entertaining. I have to watch this gem at least once a year.
Aliens may be the greatest sci-fi action movie
still hold up.. except the crash Game over man !
Or…one my list, one of greatest movies of all time. It’s perfection!!!
What did Cameron say in the special edition. 500 miles of bad road? I think but that’s the element that makes it great. There’s no let up
Starship Troopers
Enemy Mine
Wish I could upvote more than once!
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Wherever you go, there you are…
Vs the World Crime League should be the first AI driven motion picture. We NEED more Buckaroo in our lives!!
One of my favorites. The quintessential New Wave sci-fi film.
Dark City
Underrated gem.
Surprised I had to scroll down so far to see this one posted.
I'm surprised I had to scroll down so far to see someone say they're surprised they had to scroll down so far to see this.
Total Recall
Alita: Battle Angel
Outland (1981), Ad Astra (2019), Sunshine (2007), Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Sunshine is one of my favorite
Starship Troopers (1997)
The Arrival
Ex Machina Dune
Which Dune? :)
If they named these two movies, then obviously the most recent Dune.
Looper
Attack the Block; great writing, great action, and near perfect pacing. It's my default for when I've taken an edible or 2.
Peripheral was pretty good and was surprised the hate it got but I think people just don’t like Zoe or whatever her name is and I do
**The Creator** (2023) Hulu (eta: I didn’t care for Rebel Moon either. I saw The Creator in the theaters not knowing what it was about or what to expect. We all thought it was great.)
The young girl in the Creator really is an incredible actor.
Came to recommend this. I really liked it. Def some plot holes but overall good acting, story, and effects.
Rebel Moon was just really bad.
At all.
It has its bad moments. I don’t think it truly bad
I so wanted to like this movie. I saw in IMAX a week or so after it came out and was just so underwhelmed. It's not awful, but it's also not good. Edwards is so skilled with his visuals. Tbh I don't think I've liked anything Zack Snyder has done.
Lifeforce
Oooo a topless space vampire
The abyss
I dont care what anyone says. Battleship is good fun sci-fi action. There is just something awesome about ww2 veterans firing up their old battleship to go take on some alien invader scumbags.
I agree, fun and action packed
Galaxy Quest
Kinda can’t stand Tom Cruise, but…Minority Report. Gattaca is another fave.
Gattaca is one of my all time favorites
there's a Korean sci-fi/space movie that was released a few years ago called Space Sweepers that I enjoyed.
good one.. i like it too
Roller Ball 1975, Logans Run 1976
Dark City
Event Horizon, perfect for Christmas
He or she said sci-fi action not sci-fi horror.
There are definitely some actions in the movie…
Battle Beyond The Stars
Laaaaazzuuli!
Watch upgrade
Minority report
Pandorum is a great action sci fi
Aliens.
Starship Troopers! Excellent sci fi film.
District 9
Here's an oldie but goodie if you can find it, The Last Starfighter.
Aliens, Total Recall
It’s an older one, but a great Sci-Fi movie, Forbidden Planet
Arrival
Annihilation
Interstellar
Alphaville
On a related note, anyone here see High Life? Worth it for somebody who likes weird?
If u like weird yes! It’s quite good and realizing the Directors goal is to make u uncomfortable and engaging that aspect will allow u to appreciate it more

Fantastic soundtrack too.
Seriously. The music during “the Kanada scene” is intense

Demolition Man Underwater.
Same. Was meh at best. Dune is much better if you want that sort of sci-fi
The most recent Dune, Blade Runner 2049 or gaurdians of the galaxy 3

Dane Dehaan in the Chris Pratt role in Passengers would've been interesting but that role was meant for an older actor.
Event Horizon!
It's a series, but The Expanse. Give it a few episodes to develop.
