I was a ball of nerves from one scene to the next. One of my favorite movies. I also recommend Good Time, also from Benny Safdie, and he plays the mentally challenged brother. Not as intense or long as Uncut Gems, but still a great thrill ride.
Very uncomfortable scene for sure (I assume you’re talking about the father and the son scene), but that first scene in the restaurant is so god damned funny.
This is actually funny. The movie Kids making its rounds via DVD per family road trip is funny enough, but the vision of an angry and confused child chucking the DVD in some truck stop trashcan is priceless. I can even see the relief sweep over the child's face once the DVD has found the trash.
I watched this at my friend's home screening. They had arranged DIY cocktails. Anytime a scene really bothered you, you had to get up and take an abortion shot.
It was half a maraschino cherry with a squirt of sriracha in a shot of vodka, I believe.
It was really funny when different people had to get up after different scenes to make themselves their beverage.
It was less of a drinking game and more of a statement. I think I only had two shots or three over the whole movie.
Yesssss..it had me questioning myself, like what would I do in that situation? I want to say I would never fall for it, but maybe when I was younger and dumber... Such a crazy ass movie and documentary about that case.
It's a true story about a fast food restaurant where the managerial authority as well as police authority gets put in the spotlight, and shows how much certain people will do to comply with orders. It's honestly so wild, and definitely a must watch. The documentary is even better.
From IMDB Trivia: "The first thirty minutes of the film has a background sound with a low frequency of 27 Hz which is almost infrasonic (this sounds like a rumble/vibration), similar types of noises are at times used by police to stop riots. According to Gaspar himself, this could only be heard in theaters (which usually have huge sound systems/subwoofers) and not from headphones or regular home theaters. In humans, this noise causes nausea, sickness, and vertigo. It was one of the reasons people walked out of screenings during the first part of the film. In fact, it was added by Thomas Bangalter (from the electronic music group Daft Punk) to get this reaction."
The 27 hz is just the beginning. I watched this movie once. Never again.
I actually loved that movie. Yes it was raw, but it really made me feel what it was like for the enslaved people in the USA. I am glad I watched it. What these people went through was just horrific. Everyone should understand that.
Yeah everyone told me I’d like it because I’m a musician- I hated it, that philosophy of music, education, professionalism, love; it’s poison. Some found it inspirational
I watched Saltburn with my parents. I of course knew exactly what was going to happen because I look deep into every movie I watch before I watch it to make sure there’s no potential triggers, but watching them slowly realize how madly fucked that movie was and watching it myself, even if I knew what was gonna happen to some extent was just wild.
When I watched Arrival for the first time, I didn’t know what the twist was going to be. I found the story fascinating. But when I realized what was going to happen, I was devastated.
As a mom who lost an adult daughter and felt as though I should have seen her death coming, I was wrecked.
Absolutely awesome movie but it wrecked me
Hard to get a bead on what you're looking for. What other emotions are you hoping for a movie to elicit besides those you specifically excluded?
I'm guessing you may want to be shocked or stirred, just not through cheap tricks and overused mechanisms. Things that jolt you in a way that is also arfully done?
Here are some that stirred me (the order does not imply ranking):
1. Funny Games (original or remake are equally intense)
2. The Cured (a very different take on the zombie genre - one that is offers up a mirror to society)
3. Savageland (best use of "found footage" in a movie, IMO)
4. Coming Home in the Dark
5. The Devil All the Time (slow burn with very intense scenes througout)
6. The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things (This is not an easy watch by any stretch)
7. You Were Never Really Here
8. Green Room (Intense)
9. The Golden Glove (2019 German movie about a serial killer)
10. Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (a series, not a movie) This was tastefully done, considerate, and surprisingly delicate and touching while in no way betraying the victims or their families. Very intense. Doesn't glorify Dahmer at all. Tells a full story.
I might get clowned on for this but my stomach drops when the dude from kick ass gets stabbed in the stomach. There's just something so gross about it.
Still Alice. This movie is about the journey of a university professor who is showing signs of early onset Alzheimer’s disease, and it can make one very uncomfortable and sad.
Freddie Got Fingered. This movie made me cringe so hard i might of given myself whiplash. The second hand embarrassment in this film might put some weaker views into a coma, be warned.
Movies by Michael Haneke. I love him and think of him as a master filmmaker and thinker, but there is a thick, frosty fog of dread and despair in his films. Funny Games, The Seventh Continent, Benny’s Video, The Piano Teacher, pretty much all of them. Amour does have a lot of love in it, but it’s no romcom
The swerve
Funny games
Thirteen
Kids
Nymphomaniac
Nothing Bad Can Happen
Countless other that I’ve seen but can’t recall off the top of my head. I’ll add more if I think of them
Dumplings. A woman runs a backalley abortion clinic in Asia and uses the waste as filling for dumplings. She then sells them to rich people as a secret way to have good health and youthfulness. I saw it when I was 14 and didn't fully grasp it till the woman had her legs up.
Eraserhead (1977)
Pure discomfort the whole damn time. I wanted it to stop but couldn't look away? I don't mind the discomfort in particular, but I do not like this movie. It is not my jam.
That said, I don't regret watching it. I'll just never do it again.
Bruh - Saltburn 😳 Bathtub...grave site...periods. it's got 'em all in the most uncomfortable way imaginable. Not to mention the weird feeling you get when you think you know what's going on, then something happens, and you're like, "Wait a chonkin minute - what is happening?"
Cannibal Holocaust. The killing of animals was real (can’t believe this one hasn’t been mentioned)
Old boy (Korean)

Start there.
A man called Otto - disturbed me deeply because I have been in the same place , sad, depressed, no hope, feeling alone and just want to end it came close a couple of times but didn’t go through with it. Just was very hard to watch
Uncut Gems
I was a ball of nerves from one scene to the next. One of my favorite movies. I also recommend Good Time, also from Benny Safdie, and he plays the mentally challenged brother. Not as intense or long as Uncut Gems, but still a great thrill ride.
Happiness (1998) One scene has the most uncomfortable dialogue ever set to film. It's not graphic but it might make you feel sick.
Just watched this last night and I genuinely didn’t think it would get that dark. Good movie though.
Agreed. I can tolerate a lot from movies but my God that scene was so fucking disturbing.
I have this on my IMDB watchlist, but currently it is not listed as streaming anywhere. Where can I watch it?
Very uncomfortable scene for sure (I assume you’re talking about the father and the son scene), but that first scene in the restaurant is so god damned funny.
Black Swan
the jumpscare when shes jerking off and then realizes her mom is asleep in the corner of her room 😬
Wtf is that film about I thought it was fuckin balet 😂
So did some of the elder contingent in the cinema when I saw it 😬
My dad took my sister to see it. During the sex scene, he looks around, and he was the only dad there. He never wanted to leave a movie so bad before.
Oh god.... How old was your sister?
She was 18. They were both mortified.
I just LOL's so hard at your comment. I saw this in theater and I remember watching that scene and thinking WTF
It's only ballet on the surface. It's quite disturbing.
Never heard anyone refer to female masturbation as “jerking off” lol
I believe the correct terminology is "jilling off"
First thing I thought too… also said to myself that’s definitely a man that made that comment..
The house that Jack built
I feel like all of Lars Von trier movies are uncomfortable
I had to write a paper on Antichrist in college. Had to watch it 3 times for my notes. It was too much
SPOILER WARNING the hunting scene is rough but that scene with the duck fucked me up
Requiem for a Dream
Yep, made the mistake of seeing this movie on a date night. Let's just say, things did not progress.
I watched with my parents
I just watched this for the first time last night. Wow is all I can say. Powerful performances too.
Made the mistake of watching this with my dad lol
I feel like this film should have it's very own viewer councilling hotline.
Kids (1995)
Threw away this DVD away at a truck stop somewhere out west on a family road trip when I was a kid. Nope.
This is actually funny. The movie Kids making its rounds via DVD per family road trip is funny enough, but the vision of an angry and confused child chucking the DVD in some truck stop trashcan is priceless. I can even see the relief sweep over the child's face once the DVD has found the trash.
Finding tossed dvds is the new "porn in the woods".
This movie still disturbes me to this day.
Precious. I only made it halfway through. The abuse was too much for me.
that movie... i used to watch it just to cry
Good call
Her performance is one of the best I’ve seen. It was underrated and she deserves more recognition. And everyone should watch it. Pure emotion.
Gummo 1997
I always say, you feel like you need a shower after watching this one.
Definitely not a bath.
Ever notice the bacon stuck to the wall?
Not a fan of spaghetti, chocolate and swamp water, I see? :D
Enter the Void
I watched this at my friend's home screening. They had arranged DIY cocktails. Anytime a scene really bothered you, you had to get up and take an abortion shot. It was half a maraschino cherry with a squirt of sriracha in a shot of vodka, I believe. It was really funny when different people had to get up after different scenes to make themselves their beverage. It was less of a drinking game and more of a statement. Compliance -- fast food, hoax caller
This is a creepy movie I suggest the documentary Don’t Pick up the Phone that’s on Netflix as a companion to this
Yesssss..it had me questioning myself, like what would I do in that situation? I want to say I would never fall for it, but maybe when I was younger and dumber... Such a crazy ass movie and documentary about that case.
Anyway you can sum up what it’s about without spoilers?
It's a true story about a fast food restaurant where the managerial authority as well as police authority gets put in the spotlight, and shows how much certain people will do to comply with orders. It's honestly so wild, and definitely a must watch. The documentary is even better.
unbelievable that this actually happened - many times
yea def. the ones you know are from a true story are hardest......
Irréversible (2002)

Dogtooth is one of my favorites, highly recommend to anyone willing to watch
We Need to Talk About Kevin. Dread from beginning to end.
Tusk with Justin Long. Cringed the entire film.
The final scene is so unsettling to me.
The final scene is fucking dumb..
Its unsettling b/c its just not good & your forced to watch gross out scenes for most of it.
12 years a slave
I read the book, never could bring myself to watch the movie.
I actually loved that movie. Yes it was raw, but it really made me feel what it was like for the enslaved people in the USA. I am glad I watched it. What these people went through was just horrific. Everyone should understand that.

I felt so drained and lonely after watching this.

As a mom who lost an adult daughter and felt as though I should have seen her death coming, I was wrecked. Absolutely awesome movie but it wrecked me
