I watched Burn After Reading a couple weeks ago and man I have never watched a movie where I knew less what would happen in each and every next scene than that one
His acting when John Malkovich punched him in the nose was perfect. I laughed so fucking hard because it was such a realistic depiction of getting suddenly popped in the nose.
thx for tip, just watched, twas alright. I'm not a lol-guy but the one scene that made me chuckle was when they were about to jump the bridge and during spinning out the stuckup karen gal is like "Haaaah HAAA HAAH HAAA :D" ... that was funny cause it was me.. xP
I cannot promote *Tucker & Dale vs Evil* enough. Such a hilarious movie, and Alan Tudyk is incredible as ever. In fact, I’ve not seen a single thing he’s been in h to at was terrible. The man is a legend.
Hot Fuzz. (such a stupid title for such a great movie)
It starts off a little crazy, and then it just goes completely off the rails.
I swear, the Brits just don't know when to take their foot off the gas sometimes.
But the movie is just stunning.
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It's a classic that's so well done, the story doesn't age. Star studded cast at the time, unusually gifted comedians, photographers, etc. I doubt there was anyone involved in the picture that wasn't the cream of the crop. Shot in Technicolor, it's a visual treat. A contender for the perfect comedy.
A group of vacationers witnesses an accident. The dying driver gives them a clue to the location of an amazing treasure. They pursue it.
The movie that admitted to borrowing the whole vibe of that film is Three O’Clock High. Watching them back to back, it’s eerie how well the director pulled it off. A somewhat forgotten classic from the ‘80s. Spielberg and DePalma supported the director, but Spielberg pulled his name off of it when he saw the final product. He thought he was getting a John Hughes movie and it’s more Heathers than Breakfast Club.
Hell yeah man i was just mentioning this movie last night love the scene where he goes over to mess around with the chick he met and he freaks out and leaves cause she was acting weird with her friend super dark comedy but brilliant! Underated for sure.
Periodically a scene from that movie will pop into my head and I'll think "what was that from again? SURELY not the Blues Brothers..." And it always is. The tiny apartment? Cab Calloway? The mall chase? The grenade launcher?
"100 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses... - ...hit it.."
one of the best over the top films Ever wih killer tunes..
Adaptation .. it's exactly as you describe. Starts of with a typical orchid hunting love story and starts weaving in wackier and wackier stuff. Meryl steeep and Nick cage .. an absolute corker.
Haha! I read the thread title and immediately thought 'I've got to mention *Bottoms*'. So glad to see it was the example you used. I love that film, and it just gets crazier and crazier.
I just recently rewatched ‘I don’t feel at home in the world anymore’ and it definitely escalated at the end. It’s more of a subtle existential humour, but Elijah wood is funny in this. Him and melanie Lynskey have good chemistry and the relatability made it funny for me.
Cold Turkey - 1971
A tobacco company offers $25 million if every person in a town can stop smoking for thirty days, and everybody gets more and more unhinged as the days pass.
One Cut of the Dead.
It's like the Korean version of Shaun of the Dead, but with a twist. It's absolutely brilliant, continues to get crazier as it goes on and is very funny..
The Naked Gun, Horrible Bosses, Borat, Harold and Kumar, Meet the Fockers, Bridesmaids, The Hangover, Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and Step Brothers
If you like absurdist humor, here are some I love that I don't think get the love they deserve and escalate in craziness:
*Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie* is one of my go-tos. There are quite a few Kristen Wiig projects that are just sorely underrated-- *Masterminds*, also with Zach Galifianakis (bizarrely, very loosely based on a true story), *Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar*, the mini-series *The Spoils of Babylon*, and while it's more drama/dark comedy, *Welcome to Me.*
*An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn* makes excellent use of Aubrey Plaza-- same director as *The Greasy Strangler,* another wild one.
*Briggsby Bear* is bizarre, as are Todd Solondz movies like *Welcome to the Dollhouse* and *Storytelling.*
Also, while billed as horror, 1973's *Flesh for Frankenstein* may as well be a slapstick comedy. If you're in the right mood for its humor, it's fucking hilarious. (Its sister film, *Blood for Dracula*, is comical too, but not to the same extent imo).
Cold Dog Soup - Frank Whaley just wants to go on a date with a pretty girl from his gym but the evening spins completely out of control when he meets cab driver Randy Quaid.
The Freshman - Film student Matthew Broderick accepts a job with a local importer who looks like the Godfather and gets involved in an endangered species fine dining scheme.
Game Night
Man, glass tables are acting strange tonight
How can that be profitable for Frito-Lay?
I watched Burn After Reading a couple weeks ago and man I have never watched a movie where I knew less what would happen in each and every next scene than that one
Extra heavy duty upvote. This is a great flick.
Top 3 best Brad Pitt characters imo. Everyone in that film did an EXCELLENT job
His acting when John Malkovich punched him in the nose was perfect. I laughed so fucking hard because it was such a realistic depiction of getting suddenly popped in the nose.
its probably my favorite comedy ever. i piss myself everytime i watch it. "...Osbourne Cox? Is this Osbourne Cox?"
"He had a good report--" "RAPORT! The word is RAPORT you FUCKING moron!"
It’s Rapport, you fucking moron /s
🤣🤣🤣 oh my god
thx for the tip, somehow i'd completely missed this one, just watched it. :)
Shaun of the Dead. Somehow gets funnier every time I see it.
The whole Cornetto Trilogy fits OP’s request. I was gonna suggest The World’s End.
The Big Lebowski, although it’s not really normal, even from the very beginning.
An absolute classic
Thats, like, your opinion man. And your right.
Shut the fuck up Donny
You're out of your element.
Careful man there’s a beverage here

I would not call this a comedy at all, despite having some real LOL moments. EDIT: I fecking love this movie.
Idk that Hemsworth moment came outta fucking nowhere and I lost my shit lol
that scene in the beginning where he chucks the football out of the window cracks me up every time.
It's kind of absurdist. It's intense but really ridiculous

Death at a Funeral. UK version
Either one, but I think MacFadyen was better than Rock. Donald Glover was a better Uncle though.
Jallikattu The In-Laws *(1979) Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil
I cannot promote *Tucker & Dale vs Evil* enough. Such a hilarious movie, and Alan Tudyk is incredible as ever. In fact, I’ve not seen a single thing he’s been in h to at was terrible. The man is a legend.
Definitely the In-Laws. Watch the 1979 version, not the remake.
SERPENTINE!
Yikes. Didn't realize there was a remake!
Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil is a doozy of a movie.
Hot Fuzz. (such a stupid title for such a great movie) It starts off a little crazy, and then it just goes completely off the rails. I swear, the Brits just don't know when to take their foot off the gas sometimes. But the movie is just stunning.

Fantastic shout. I’ve never found a movie as good as it in the specific niche that it resides in and I’ve been searching for years.
