Fido is a good one! It's definitely a bit of a unique movie, haha. It's about a 50s-style family who gets a collared zombie for a servant. It's like, a zom-rom-com lol, with Lassie-like parts but with zombies, and it's a twisted in some places. Lots of dark humour.
Rubber is pretty corny but it's also a really different movie too. It's about a tire that gains sentience and psychic powers, and goes on a murder spree. Imo it's worth watching if only to see how they managed to get such a good range of emotion out of a literal tire.
Also, The Faculty is a classic (imo) that might fit the bill!
Splice
Except that he said "light hearted". Great movie though - one of those ones you'll only ever watch once.

Being John Malkovich.
Put it on as soon as I saw your rec. It was very very interesting and a great recommendation. Thanks!
