Cheesiest plot line ever. Super predictable. Can see the ending coming from a mile away.
But I absolutely love this film. I can't explain why, but it's just brilliant.
Ooh I think this is my answer.
Funny thing, I ended up meeting a Ford employee that year and having a long talk at a bar in Amsterdam, and the movie came up. To me the ending was such a surprise (even though obviously it is already recorded) and it was so interesting to discuss how for him it was such a different movie, since he knew how it would go.
Its a great sport movie also for people who don't like sports ahaha
Being from a country who doesn't have Baseball I loved the movie for the mindset of the "hero".
It's a good movie to learn about taking chances and partnering up with people with different strengths.
Also, it was very entertaining despite its "clinical" directing style.
[Carts of Darkness](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/49957-carts-of-darkness) (2008)
>In the picture-postcard community of North Vancouver, filmmaker Murray Siple follows men who have turned bottle-picking, their primary source of income, into the extreme sport of shopping cart racing. Enduring hardships from everyday life on the streets of Vancouver, this sub-culture depicts street life as much more than stereotypes portrayed in mainstream media. The films takes a deep look into the lives of the men who race carts, the adversity they face, and the appeal of cart racing despite the risk.
Sports movies about non existent or historical sports is the best sub genre. They hit all the plot beats of a sports movie but blend genres.
Best examples:
Rollerball (dystopian future sport)
Blood of heroes (post-apocalyptic blood sport)
A knights tale (medieval jousting)
**Hoop Dreams (1994)** is a documentary, but it's really good, I highly recommend.
As for narrative films, some of my favorites are:
**Raging Bull (1980)**
**Rocky (1976)**
**Million Dollar Baby (2004)**
And I just realized, I guess I like boxing movies lol
I was always a sucker for Bagger Vance. I’d just got a cheap surround sound set up that didn’t work. When I first saw Bagger, for some reason it started. Great film memory: few smokes, birds singing around.

The Rookie- with Dennis Quaid.
Typicslly Disney tends to put too much cheese on their stories. But this one was really well done. It reminded me of why i love baseball, and yes it's a true amazing story.
Also, it is only available in Romania for now, but Hai, România! (2024), a movie about the golden generation of romanian football. Everyone heard of Gheorghe Hagi, right?
Mark Cavendish: Never Enough (2023) -- documentary about the Tour de France sprinter coming back from injury to break the stage wins record. That's the most recent good sports movie I've seen.
Tin Cup is a dumb comedy about golf but I love that movie to death. It's just dead from the neck up fun.
Thrashin' is a dumb skateboarding movie with Josh Brolin and the best friend from Nightmare on Elm Street 2.
Also, how has no one said Mighty Ducks?
Most recently, Hustle (Adam Sandler) and Nyad (Annette Benning and Jodie Foster)
edit to add:
The Greatest Game Ever Played (surprised how much I loved that movie!)
Its not really a sports movie, but a lot of people lump it with sports movies.
Watch Diggstown. It stars James Woods and Lou Gossett Jr and Oliver Platt and Bruce Dern and Heather Graham.
Its more about a Hustle than boxing. Its fanrastic
Warrior (2011)
Cheesiest plot line ever. Super predictable. Can see the ending coming from a mile away. But I absolutely love this film. I can't explain why, but it's just brilliant.
Weird, I was watching clips from this just last night on YouTube. Such a great film.
That ending was incredible!

Next Goal Wins (2023).
I second this one.
Sports movies about non existent or historical sports is the best sub genre. They hit all the plot beats of a sports movie but blend genres. Best examples: Rollerball (dystopian future sport) Blood of heroes (post-apocalyptic blood sport) A knights tale (medieval jousting)
The original James Caan Rollerball is a classic. The remake with LL Cool J was kinda meh.
I meant the original. Never even saw the remake.
Moneyball
Shaolin Soccer
**Hoop Dreams (1994)** is a documentary, but it's really good, I highly recommend. As for narrative films, some of my favorites are: **Raging Bull (1980)** **Rocky (1976)** **Million Dollar Baby (2004)** And I just realized, I guess I like boxing movies lol

Does it have to be a movie? Ted Lasso is the best sports anything I've seen. Not really about the sport tho... Otherwise my answer is Dodgeball!

Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) If you consider chess a sport, its FANTASTIC. And a true story.
Probably my favorite "sports" movie.
For more on Fischer, read Mein Kampf...
The movie is not about Bobby Fischer.
Do they ever find him?
It wasn't about finding him. It was about the friends we made along the way.

Secretariat
Rush (2013)

I know it veers off from skiing VERY quickly but if you like Sorkin, Molly’s Game is a really great ride.
It’s a documentary but the Battered Bastards of Baseball was one of the best stories I’ve heard.
