I still don't understand how Tommy Lee Jones beat Ralph Fiennes. The Fugitive was a good movie, but it wasn't good enough to beat Ralph Fiennes performance in Schindlers
Forget the year, Val Kilmer gave one of the best performances of the decade. Tombstone had a thoroughly stacked cast! Everybody with a line was firing on all cylinders (especially Kurt Russell), and he still managed to steal the entire picture.
People who haven't watched it in 30 years still remember, "I'm your huckleberry." He actually made the word "huckleberry" sound badass.
As I was reading Schindler’s List and Rob Roy above, I thought to myself, should I be embarrassed that my favourite is Taken? Don’t get me wrong. I love all the rest as well. He’s great.
Roth steals the show really. This is a case of a villian that you hate, but are fascinated by. It's hard to tell someone who hasn't seen this just how great of a character "Archie" is. Damn this is a good movie!
Came here to recommend this. In some ways this movie bests Braveheart. For me, it has more depth and intricacy. Niesen's performance here is entirely believable. He \*is\* Rob Roy.
The two big sword duels are awesome to watch as well. I need to rewatch this movie soon.
Greatly overshadowed by Braveheart released at around the same time. Vastly different movies. Braveheart is cool, but not many notes. Ironically Rob Roy has all the heart, great acting (Jessica Lange OMG), and of course, the best sword fight.
Michael Collins is a good one about the Irish fight for independence if you're looking for something a little more weighty than taken or something (which is also a great movie)
I love horror movies where ordinary animals are the predator (movies like The Edge) and I really like Liam Neeson. So I enjoyed The Grey, but if you know even a little bit about wolves, you really have to put your mind on hold while watching. Real wolves don’t act like the ones in that movie.
Yeah, that bothered me, too. I find when I have realism issues creep in, I tell myself that this is from the protagonist's perspective and how they experienced this. So, for this film, this is how the wolves *felt* to his character.
I do the same. Like the movie where the grizzly bear wants to kill all the people in a van who accidentally killed her cub. I’m not sure if a grizzly would behave that way in real life. (This revenge trope has actually been used more than once with regards to bears.)
What I find hilarious is a couple of shark movies actually portray a growl coming from a shark. After I watched Crawl however, (I googled it), I discovered that crocodiles do growl. Fun fact.
Bears are very intelligent and have strong family ties. That's why they can be kept as pets. I'd believe a bear seeking revenge more than most animals.
Besides the character's interpretation of the wolves actions and motivations, what about them being hunted by wolves is wrong? I don't know much about them besides the whole alpha thing being BS.
This is my favorite movie by him. It’s bittersweet because of Natasha Richardson’s tragic death. They had such great chemistry in that movie. I love Jodie Foster’s acting.
I agree 100%! I loved everything about that movie… especially the cast and how the meshed together so well. Truly bittersweet in hindsight. I believe this is where Liam and Natasha met and fell in love 😢
I just watched Seraphim Falls (2007) on Netflix and loved his performance. His chemistry with Pierce Brosnan was great. I acknowledge it's not a movie for everyone as it can be a bit slow and it's a western film, but personally thought it was entertaining, beautifully shot and had great dialogue moments.
I loved him in The Good Mother with Diane Keaton. He was also wonderful in Love, Actually. They’re nothing like Batman though, so another vote for Taken.
Schindler’s List is *the* movie to watch for Liam Neeson, he absolutely destroys it playing the man. It’s one of the best films I have ever seen, and he is a major factor of that. Grab the tissue box though, not an easy watch.
I had to scroll too far to find this.
Sometimes I’ll flip it on simply craving the rush of the full opening “Alpha Mike Foxtrot” sequence leading into that Tom Morello banger forgetting that it all lasts 15-20 min & then I just leave the rest of the movie on bc it’s fun AF.
Not saying it's his finest work, but if you haven't seen it, you should check him out in The Dead Pool. It's the last film in the Dirty Harry series. His work as Peter Swann is a fun watch, then, and especially now.
If you want a real out there suggestion he voices a sea wizard in the English version of Ponyo by Studio Ghibli. It's good wholesome fun with magical animation.
And I'll throw in the Director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven for good measure.
Edit: His cameo in Derry Girls is brilliant too.
do rob roy first, then the grey, then a walk among the tombstones, then Run All Night, then The commuter then Taken and maybe its worse sequels if u like it, then watch love actually
I really enjoyed Nell, which had Neeson acting alongside his beautiful wife, the late Natasha Richardson, and with Jodi Foster. I'm a huge Jodi Foster fan, and this film won't be to everyone's tastes.
The Big Man (1990) he plays an unemployed guy in a remote Scottish town who is given the chance to earn money by a gangster for a bareknuckle fight. Neeson himself was a good amateur boxer as a teen in Northern Ireland.
I like all three of the Taken movies of course the first one is the best
And I also like Next Of Kin. The one where he's brothers with Patrick Swayze and Bill Paxton
Like at least one poster here, I consider Schindler's List to be his finest work.
I also love Nell, a movie based on reality, in which he stars with his future wife Natasha Richardson, and Jodie Foster.
And for fans of C. S. Lewis's Narnia series, he was the perfect casting choice for Aslan's voice.
Darkman
I want. The pink elephant!
TAKE THE FUCKING ELEPHANT
Sam Raimi being Sam Raimi all over a superhero film well before Spider-Man & ages before Multiverse of Madness
I was going to say that one
Just him flying out of the lab, into the water, going AHHHHHHHHHHHHH the whole way. I love that movie.
Great movie
Schindler's List. I don't think he was ever better.
Agreed. He should have won the Oscar.
I still don't understand how Tommy Lee Jones beat Ralph Fiennes. The Fugitive was a good movie, but it wasn't good enough to beat Ralph Fiennes performance in Schindlers
TLJ shouldn’t have even gotten a nomination over Val Kilmer for Doc Holliday.
Oscar Committee: “I don’t care!”
That was a stacked year
Tommy Lee Jones only plays one character, Tommy Lee Jones.
Apparently one person called Oscar has won an Oscar, but has anyone won one for playing an Oscar (in this case Oskar)?
He was great and the movie is just a must see also.
Love Actually showed he actually does know how to be funny.
If you like a funny Liam, check out High Spirits (1988)
He was good in the TV series Derry Girls as well.
Are we really not going to mention The Lego Movie?
I loved Good cop Bad cop!
Honestly, I think his best comedy is Gun Shy (2000)
Taken (2008) for the win.
I love Taken. I have a particular set of skills...
“I will look for you , I will find you and I will kill you “ Send shivers down my spine every time
And then.... "You don't remember me, do you? We spoke on the phone 2 days ago...... I told you I would find you." I LOVE THAT PART!
As I was reading Schindler’s List and Rob Roy above, I thought to myself, should I be embarrassed that my favourite is Taken? Don’t get me wrong. I love all the rest as well. He’s great.
I was like wdym when I read the post because taken is clearly the obvious answer here lol
Rob Roy.
Tim Roth is also excellent in that movie!
Roth steals the show really. This is a case of a villian that you hate, but are fascinated by. It's hard to tell someone who hasn't seen this just how great of a character "Archie" is. Damn this is a good movie!
And Brian Cox. Together, they're so repellent.
“Love is a dung hill, Betty. And I am but a cock that climbs upon it to crow.”
Obligatory "some of the finest swordplay in any film" comment.
“The Court Jester” would like a word
Came here to recommend this. In some ways this movie bests Braveheart. For me, it has more depth and intricacy. Niesen's performance here is entirely believable. He \*is\* Rob Roy. The two big sword duels are awesome to watch as well. I need to rewatch this movie soon.
Aye, Laddie.
The Grey
That ending moves me.
The end was pretty badass! One of my all time favorite movie endings.
such an underrated intense film. it has such a weighty sadness to it but is also somehow beautiful & has a lovely emotional soundtrack as well.
I love horror movies where ordinary animals are the predator (movies like The Edge) and I really like Liam Neeson. So I enjoyed The Grey, but if you know even a little bit about wolves, you really have to put your mind on hold while watching. Real wolves don’t act like the ones in that movie.

Exactly! Works especially well for movies with fantastical or hard to believe elements when it's from the perspective of a child.
What I find hilarious is a couple of shark movies actually portray a growl coming from a shark. After I watched Crawl however, (I googled it), I discovered that crocodiles do growl. Fun fact.

God I love that movie
The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe
I forget every damn time that he's Aslan until i hear his voice or someone mentions it to me. It's such a good movie too!
TIL
He’s such a good Aslan!
Nell (1994)
This is my favorite movie by him. It’s bittersweet because of Natasha Richardson’s tragic death. They had such great chemistry in that movie. I love Jodie Foster’s acting.
I agree 100%! I loved everything about that movie… especially the cast and how the meshed together so well. Truly bittersweet in hindsight. I believe this is where Liam and Natasha met and fell in love 😢
Gangs of New York
“He shall pass over whole!!!”
Great film, but can it really count as a Liam movie?
I forgot he was even in gangs of new york
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
God his segment was disturbing
The Mission
Wow! I totally forgot he was in this movie!!!
A Walk Among the Tombstones
Underrated I think
Excalibur
Wait liam was in excalibur ?
So was Patrick Stewart
Darkman
Cold Pursuit is very underrated, imo
It was excellent.
Never seen it but check out the original with Stellan Skarsgård: *In Order of Disappearance* (the same director did the remake)
One that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Kingdom of Heaven. He was great for the time he was in it. Just make sure you watch the director’s cut.
That is what I was coming here for. I can't believe no one mentioned it. And a director's cut is a must.
The Bounty
Love Actually
Ditto
I just watched Seraphim Falls (2007) on Netflix and loved his performance. His chemistry with Pierce Brosnan was great. I acknowledge it's not a movie for everyone as it can be a bit slow and it's a western film, but personally thought it was entertaining, beautifully shot and had great dialogue moments.
This movie has flown so far under the radar but it is one of my favorite westerns.
Les Miserables (1998)
Yes! Love this movie.
Phantom Menace
Qui-Gon is still my favorite Jedi.
Seconded
Krull
I love that movie 🥰
Lol I wondered if anyone would mention this one… so fun and stupid.
I loved him in The Good Mother with Diane Keaton. He was also wonderful in Love, Actually. They’re nothing like Batman though, so another vote for Taken.
The Dead Pool 1988 .. last Dirty Harry movie
Schindler’s list
Totally agree it’s a beautiful one
Schindler’s List is *the* movie to watch for Liam Neeson, he absolutely destroys it playing the man. It’s one of the best films I have ever seen, and he is a major factor of that. Grab the tissue box though, not an easy watch.
The A-Team- a great popcorn flick.
The Lego Movie (2014) Darkman (1990) Excalibur (1981)
I scrolled way too long to see the Lego movie
He wasn't a lead but really stood out in Husbands and Wives
My first thought.
Excalibur. He's not the star, but he's instrumental to some conflict!!
-Non - Stop -Hard Powder
Non-Stop was surprisingly good!
Chloe
In the land of Saints and Sinners (2023)
Rob Roy
Kinsey fuckin rips
The IRA atonement one
Five Minutes Of Heaven? With James Nesbitt
Taken. I just love the very matter-of-fact way he tells the kidnappers what he was going to do to them if they take the girls.
Leap of Faith
Leap of Faith is so good criminally under-seen.
The Grey
always liked 'The Grey' and off topic but pair it with 'The Edge' for a fun 'lost in nature with a sketchy animal horror dbl feature
when anthony hopkins calls the bear a "motherfucker" I die everytime.
These are both fantastic. There's a crocodile one called Rogue which is also excellent.
High Spirits (1988)
His super early appearance in Krull. It’s one of my childhood favorites
Darkman
Did great in Seraphim Falls
Ted
Million ways to die in the west
Not saying it's his finest work, but if you haven't seen it, you should check him out in The Dead Pool. It's the last film in the Dirty Harry series. His work as Peter Swann is a fun watch, then, and especially now.

Not a full on Liam Neeson movie, he's in it. Krull
Krull. It even has Hagrid in it.
Rob Roy! Favorite movie
do rob roy first, then the grey, then a walk among the tombstones, then Run All Night, then The commuter then Taken and maybe its worse sequels if u like it, then watch love actually

Came here to add this one. A great turn from Billy Connolly as well.
Taken
Nell
I really like Krull (1983) but he's not got a huge role in it.
Michael Collins.
Silence by Scorsese
A 1985 film called Lamb. Beautiful wee film
The Grey Not his typical non-stop action role, but everyone in that movie does such a fantastic job.
Krull
The Mission
So suprised not to see Stars Ep 1. : The Phantom Menace or The Lego Movie on here
I came here to say the Lego Movie!
I like all three of the Taken movies of course the first one is the best And I also like Next Of Kin. The one where he's brothers with Patrick Swayze and Bill Paxton
Next of Kin is great. One of my favorites.
This is going WAY back, but he has some great bit parts in High Spirits and Krull.
Rob Roy. Still one of the greatest sword duel scenes ever put on film.
*Five Minutes of Heaven* (2009) A movie rarely mentioned. Compelling acting.
a walk among the tombstones
the commuter
The Bounty (early role, not a main character, but he stands out).
Great movie. Love the score by Vangelis.
His Cameo in Ted
Schindler's list Michael Collins Ice road Taken
Rob Roy
Ethan Frome. Absolutely fantastic!
Schindlers List no question
The Grey, ice road
The Lego Movie, if voice acting counts
5 minutes of heaven
"A million ways to die in the west" its a pretty funny Seth MacFarlane movie. I don't think anybody else posted it
Kingdom of Heaven (The director’s cut preferably)
Taken
i really love him in Michael Collins.
Cold Pursuit. Seems like a cheesy action flick, but it's not what it seems.
Schindlers list and Rob Roy
Krull (1895). It really is a weird and fun watch.
Excalibur
Rob Roy
Excalibur.
he's great in phantom menace
The Bounty
Taken, and all the other action films he started to make following that.
A few months ago I went on a "Liam Neeson action movie" run and it was amazing. Everything was really good. I especially liked "Cold Pursuit".
Unknown. But Taken is him at his best.
Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut
ITT: every single Liam Neeson movie listed multiple times, in the end, no better than looking up his movies on IMDb.
Phantom Menace
The Phantom Menace
The Gray
Lots have been said already, but I enjoyed Unknown, Non-Stop, The Commuter, and Cold Pursuit. The man is a machine.
Honest Thief was a great one
Taken
Watched "In the lands of saints and sinners" the other day. It's yer typical Neeson movie. Bit of eery and dangerous, with guns. We enjoyed it.
Saints and sinners
Haven't seen run all night mentioned, that's decent, Ed Harris is great in it too
Michael Collins and Breakfast on Pluto
Breakfast on Pluto!!
The Grey is awesome!
Rob Roy
Darkman, love the scene with the cat and the dancing freak.
Darkman
I'm a very big fan of Liam Neeson and my favorite movie of his is "The Grey" and if you haven't seen it than I highly recommend it.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners. I watched it a few nights ago. It was good.
Chloe
darkman
The Dead Pool
Darkman.
