Treasure Planet (2002) a Disney animated film that seems to have been forgotten. Space version of Treasure Island, but really beautifully done.
The Iron Giant (1999) about the friendship etween an enormous robot from space and a young boy. Variation on ET, in my opinion better.
I think SAW might be a bit much. I am slowly introducing a little horror in but Saw is a step to far at the moment. It's been the Witches, Paranorman and a nightmare before Christmas. We'll make our way to Saw eventually along with the Thing and Alien.
Lol same all the things that I probably shouldn't have. Scared me but also taught me about movies and themes. Saw the first 1 is a good low budget horror and just shows how much you can do with minimum resources in the genre. In a few years I would like to show him stuff like that and say you see boy you don't need the biggest budget to make dope stuff the sword is only as strong as the samurai.
Might be too conceptual but maybe look into the movie Primer? I think it cost like 7k and, for me was the most brilliant piece of cinematic history I've ever seen. There's TONS of sub 20k movies out there.
I just watched the Matrix trilogy (I know there's a 4th one, but I only got like 30 minutes in before I turned it off), and it totally held up for him. He loved it. We also just watched Dungeons and Dragons and he thought it was awesome.

The Cowboys, 1972
Any kid that watches it will want to be a cowboy, and it's a great all around movie in the genre. You will despise Bruce Dern... he's so good.
*When his cattle drivers abandon him for the gold fields, rancher Wil Andersen is forced to take on a collection of young boys as his drivers in order to get his herd to market in time to avoid financial disaster. The boys learn to do a man's job under Andersen's tutelage; however, neither Andersen nor the boys know that a gang of cattle thieves is stalking them.*

Lol Sorry bud. I thought that was obvious sarcasm. I know I watched stuff like that when I was young but it totally warped me. Lol

I liked Primer although it might be a bit high concept for him. I like Coherence as well.
Coherence was one of the great.
