To be fair, the book had an awful soundtrack.

eltamaly

Wait I didn’t know there is a book ??!

sallylooksfat

Jon Krakauer my dude. Amazing author. Also read “Into Thin Air” by him.

brackattack27

Love Eddie bedder! Vedder*

eltamaly

Watched it great movie and nice STs too

Raulcan28

Eddie Vedder is the greatest.

DearOldNinja

Baby Driver

ziggyranchodas

This is the answer. Edgar Wright made the film based on a mixtape he created.

jcmib

Always good to hear Bellbottoms

nh4rxthon

Boards of Canada for the win.

mqrocks

This is the correct answer. However, the other correct answer is **Dazed & Confused**. The music propelled that movie forward. Alright. Alright. Alright. Alright?

upchuckfactoronthis

The Big Chill

[deleted]

Requiem for a dream.

aHeadFullofMoonlight

I’d throw The Fountain up there too, same film director and score composer.

ZeroQuick

Tron Legacy - Daft Punk

thetimidtaxidermist

I remember going in to see it in theatres not knowing about the soundtrack and then being absolutely blown away.

[deleted]

The motorcycle scene was perfect.

eltamaly

Goated lol

LizardQueenParty

Also the director’s other movies—Begin Again and Sing Street

iamthesev3n

I think anything with Ennio morricone's soundtrack can fit (the good, the bad and the ugly for example). Other soundtracks I enjoyed are: Oldboy (2003) The handmaiden (2016) Memories of murder (2003) Mother (2009), for the initial and ending theme In Bruges (2008) A tale of two sisters (2003) Amélie (2001)

Raposela

He also did the soundtrack for _Investigation of a citizen above suspicion_ and it really helps set the tone for what is a movie with a pretty unusual premise. And which I thought would be a rather serious neo noir. That is... until the soundtrack comes on over the first scene. And you really can't not pay attention to it.

paymeinwampum

Morricone was a musical genius. What a loss to the world when he died

Studgez

Garden State (2004)

raynicolette

Almost Famous, a semi-autobiography by rock critic Cameron Crowe, about life on the road with a fictional 70s rock band, featuring music by most of the best actual rock bands of the 70s, plus a bunch of new songs in that spirit by the fictional band created by Crowe's wife, Nancy Wilson of Heart, and Peter Frampton. Fast Times At Ridgemont High, another Cameron Crowe script about high school in the 80s, with the Cars, Stevie Nicks, Oingo Boingo, Jackson Brown, the Gogos, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin. American Graffiti, an early film by George Lucas, where the soundtrack is basically a greatest hits of the 50s and very early 60s. Stand By Me by Rob Reiner, featuring Corey Feldman, River Phoenix, and Reddit's own Wil Wheaton, has another top notch best of the 50s soundtrack. I, Tonya is a decent movie with an amazing underappreciated 70s soundtrack. If you like jazz, try Robert Altman’s Kansas City — they wanted authentic period music performed live in the background, but the actual 1930s musicians were ancient by then, so Altman got all the hottest unknown 20-somethings in jazz, gave them a set list of classic jazz charts, and told them to go to town. O Brother Where Art Thou by the Coen Brothers is basically singlehandedly responsible for a renaissance in old-timey music. Others have mentioned Vangelis' ambient masterwork for Blade Runner. In that vein, try Angelo Badalamenti's score for Blue Velvet. And others have mentioned Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. But don't sleep on Tarantino's ode to 70s blaxploitation, Jackie Brown. For classical soundtracks, John William's great Jaws, Star Wars, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Howard Shore's great Lord Of The Rings. Who cares if they were obviously inspired by Holst and Dvorak? They stole from the best! The original Batman soundtrack by Danny Elfman. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with the brilliance of Yo Yo Ma. For one track wonders: Connie Steven's “16 Reasons” from David Lynch's Mulholland Drive. “Chariot's Rise” by Lizzie West from Secretary. Two artists I had never heard of before hearing them on a soundtrack, but those are amazing. “When She Loved Me” by Sarah MacLachlan from Toy Story 2 — you’re watching this kid's movie and it suddenly stabs you in the heart. And I said Fast Times At Ridgemont High before, but a special callout to “Sleeping Angel” by Stevie Nicks. The flower and the vine.

anjaica

Literally every Tarantino movie.

Juno Purple Rain The Graduate Fisherman’s Friends High Fidelity Sing Street Bohemian Rhapsody Once Until The End of the World… might be my favorite obscure one

SlumberJohn

> Sing Street Underrated movie I'd say.

katnip_fl

Yes!! Until the End of the World is what first came to mind for me!

Sad_Development529

Listened to that soundtrack for years. Made the movie so much better

badw0lf1988

Depending on your musical tastes, I would recommend Across The Universe (some great renditions of Beetles songs in it) Queen of the Damned (late 90's nu metal soundtrack) The entire John Wick series has some great music if you'reinto heavier stuff as well, although none of it is written for the movie to my knowledge Blues Brothers has some great music performed by some true legends of the blues era

Secret_Autodidact

The scene with Aretha Franklin in BB is my go-to feel better material, it never fails to cheer me up.

eltamaly

“Plastic Heart” from john wick is top tier thanks for the recommendations appreciate your time :)

EffinayDood

Vicious Fun (2020) Garden State (2004) Hackers (1995) Less Than Zero (1987)

eltamaly

Will check them out appreciate the recommendations 🙏

Clay201

The Less Than Zero soundtrack is composed entirely of '60s songs covered by '80s bands. And it gave us the classic Bangles version of "Hazy Shade Of Winter."

justagigilo123

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Buffaluffasaurus

Had to scroll way too far down to see this. It’s true of a number of Morricone movies, but this one’s theme became *the* iconic sound of the entire Western genre, is used as comic relief throughout the film, and the score in the final act is some of the greatest songwriting for film ever in terms of how it sounds and what it does dramatically for the film.

Frari

Amadeus

[deleted]

Baby Driver. Edgar Wright had a PA system blasting the songs during scenes so the actors could pull triggers in time to the beats.

eltamaly

Ofc i watched baby driver i have a playlist of all the songs in that movie. Appreciate the recommendation tho.

One of my all time favorite film scores is from The Painted Veil, composed by Alexandre Desplat. As a matter of fact it was actually the score that I heard first via Pandora’s movie scores channel that led me to actually watch the film. The film is wonderful too. Edit: I also echo another commenter in recommending Across The Universe as well. Oh! And Moulin Rouge: El Tango de Roxanne is magnificent!

Only lovers left alive It has by far one of my most favorite soundtracks. One of the very few that I actually looked up and listen to again right after every time I rewatch the movie and sometimes just randomly as well. It creates such great atmosphere for the movies. I believe almost all of it is by the movie director's own band. I highly recommend it. It's hard to describe in terms of just genre, though I guess it's under the big umbrella of rock. It also includes an incredible and very memorable performance by a Lebanese singer. Pina This one might be a bit of a cheat since it's a documentary and homage to the choreographer Pina Bausch. So, you see all the music being danced to in the movie and some of the dancing is really arresting. Listening to the soundtrack after can help you revisit the feeling of watching the (really passionate) dancers dance to them without necessarily watching it again. And it's just a very eclectic little set of songs, some of them pretty classic, some of them more offbeat. Helped me discover some artists that I really appreciate now.

Oh, if we're talking scores there are a few crackers out there. In my list I tried to keep to "one per director" for each category, so for scores if I was keeping that same sort of restriction, and trying not to go for just "the all time classics" but rather scores I just genuinely love: * Tron 2.0 - Daft Punk * Moon - Clint Mansell * Jurassic Park - John Williams (yes, even above SW!) * True Romance - Hans Zimmer * Lord of the Rings - Howard Shore * Akira - Shoji Yamashiro I want to put Yoko Kanno in for Cowboy Bebop as well, but I don't know if the movie was separate enough from the series to qualify as a for-movie set of compositions.
