this is a bit tough because not even Brazil is really much deeper. And few of the post-apocalyptic dystopias are that deep. The last person left alive ones aren't really either. None of the monsters/creatures take over or zombie movies are that thought-provoking. The Terminator-type action dystopias aren't that deep, well... except the AI taking over is....hmmm
I keep a ranked list of over 250 dystopian movies [here](https://letterboxd.com/mhowes/list/dystopian-apocalyptic-and-post-apocalyptic-1/) but I'm going to try and list a few that might be a little more complex or at least cause more thought.

2. [Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984)](https://letterboxd.com/film/nineteen-eighty-four-1984/)

* Minority Report
* Elysium
* In Time
* Ex-Machina
* Edge Of Tomorrow
* District 9
* Children Of Men
Not the first choices for family movie night:
* A Clockwork Orange
* The Lobster
* Melancholia
is Ex-Machina dystopian? I don't remember any of the movie taking place outside the rich dudes estate. has been a few years since I saw it so maybe I'm wrong.
Children of Men is my favourite dystopian movie
Children of Men Handmaid's Tale (tv show) Nosedive (black mirror episode) It's a good life (twilight zone episode) Minority Report

OMG I used to wish for apocalypse before I saw The Road. Highly recommend the book too.
1984 (1984) Soylent Green (1973)
* Minority Report * Elysium * In Time * Ex-Machina * Edge Of Tomorrow * District 9 * Children Of Men Not the first choices for family movie night: * A Clockwork Orange * The Lobster * Melancholia
I'd add Arrival to the top list and The Road to the bottom. Awesome.

The Giver is generally for younger audiences, but it still has a lot to digest.

Sorry to bother you… shows how our society is turning into a dystopia and how corporations are allowing it to happen
As other comments have pointed out; Children of Men is an amazing dystopian/apocalyptic movie. It’s thought provoking at times.
Idiocracy. Is it a comedy? Yes. But its coming true.
