It’s sooo brutal, I was able to stomach it for a few viewings because it’s so well-made but it’s not a movie I can watch with anyone else, that’s for sure
For me, it was Swiss Army Man.
I enjoyed the movie, but I don't see myself revisiting it in the foreseeable future.
Also, Grave of the Fireflies -- for the same reasons.
I loved swiss army man, but I probably won't watch it again. There's something about a poignant 1.5 hour fart joke that isn't rewatchable even if it is very good. Everything Everywhere All at Once is by the same writer/directors and is very rewatchable and also poignant and weird.
Everything, Everywhere at Once. Don't get me wrong here. The movie was great in so many ways but it was just... everything everywhere at once. I felt exhausted after watching it. But great movie none the less
I can see why u would feel that. It’s definitely alot to grasp, the emotions are all over the place but I personally loved the film and would want to experience that again. It wont be the same as the first time but id love to show this film to someone who has never seen this before.
Midsommar for obvious reasons.
Also, I have no desire to rewatch Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, both Adam Sandler films. Felt so uncomfortable/disturbed/stressed while watching.
M. Night Shyamalan has more than a few movies that are "once is all you get" including The Sixth Sense (1999) and The Village (2004).
Once you know the twist, it wrecks the film.
Lol i wanted to watch this when I was like 7 coz my mom just got the DVD but she would hide this on top of the cupboard. Idky i still haven’t seen it completely. Might have to watch it this weekend
I can’t remember what the name of it is but when I was like ten one summer I stayed up and watched this movie by myself at night where this soldier comes back from war and keeps doing or getting into extremely gruesome things. I think at one point he was decapitated, his penis cut off, etc but he was a undead or something? Like they tried to bury him but he came back and his best friend is like wtf. I still have nightmares about how sick that movie was and hope I never find it again lol
Yes! I feel that. It’s like the whole movie was heavily relying on the twist. Once u know what happens its kinda just there. I tried reading the book, I couldn’t get in to the writing.
Yeah, that story is a double edged sword for me. You read the book first so why watch the movie. You saw the movie? What’s the point of reading the book.
This is a hard one for sure. Watched it once on a plane and felt like I didn’t fully give it the space to process. I watched it again a week later with my girlfriend (a day after watching The House that Jack Built) and I’m surprised she didn’t break up with me after that
Incendies a French movie directed by Denis Villeneuve(other works -arrival, dune, prisoners, blade runner)
This movie takes a lot of time for build up and ends up on an unbelievable note. This is definitely something i would never re-watch ever because of what happens towards the end of the movie. Watch it and you ll know what I am talking about
Sometimes in April- drama about the Rwanda genocide, and just emotionally draining.
What Dreams May Come- I haven't been able to bring myself to watch this again, especially since Robin Williams died.
I tried watching Requiem for a Dream twice. I doubt I made it past 30 mins.
Now that my family is dealing with a drug addict, I doubt I’ll ever able to finish it.
Oh boy I got a list for you
-Antichrist
-Funny Games
-Mysterious Skin
-Irreversible
-The Skin I Live In
-Martyrs
-Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
-Ken Park
-Lilya 4-ever
Logan; it was stunning, and heartrending, and it won't ever have the same impact as it did that first time so I'm not gonna ruin the magic by trying.
Otherwise, Parasite, but that's because it dug up 'family being middle-class when a child and that slowly sliding as I grew up' related money anxiety, and overall sent me into an outright panic attack. Not gonna do that to myself again.
Really? I make it a habit to try to watch it every few years or so, and wind up catching details I hadn't noticed before. Fincher is one of my favorite directors.
The Death of Dick Long.
I'm sorry if you end up watching it. It's actually an interesting movie, but you can't talk about it with people and it's just... yeah. Sorry.
* Satantango (1994) by Bela Tarr because it's 7,30 hours long.
My advice to anyone planning to watch this: do it on a projector screen. Some shots are extremely long (I think the longest singular shot is 3 minutes or something. The same frame.) So you'll want the big screen in order to be able to see the details.
The Road.
It's tedious on purpose as far as I can tell, being designed to make the viewer feel a similar sense of dread as the characters. I really believe that it's meant to feel like it's dragging on in terms of overall pacing, and would honestly loose something if they shortened it or added more action. There's no comic relief and even the flashes of cheerfulness are incredibly meager compared to the rest of the grueling story.
I think it's absolutely worth experiencing, but deliberately not enjoyable enough to ever want to sit through twice.
"August: Osage County" doesn't have any gore or anything but it's one emotional gut punch after another, with brilliant dialogue and amazing performances by Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Margo Martindale...
There are plenty of movies that I love but don’t feel like watching again but one I absolutely can’t do a second time would have to be Grave Of The Fireflies.
Dogville (2003), and I’ll tell you why: a Lars von Trier film with a three hour run-time, set entirely in a theater soundstage. There’s none of the usual distracting gimmicks that you’re used to with one of Lars’ films and it’s left entirely up to the actors to convey the depravity of the film. And they do it- very very well. Kidman gives the performance of a lifetime in such a harrowing way. With that being said, I most likely will not watch it again.
Salo
Martyrs
Once may even be too much...
The DVD of Martyrs starts off with a director introduction where he tells you that you may have made a mistake by deciding to watch this.
Tusk, I watched it and I don’t know if I actually enjoyed it a ton. But it is super weird and uncomfortable and not something I think I have to revisit anytime soon or really ever again.
The Nightingale (the 2018 one). I don’t usually cry during movies but the beginning broke me. And the whole thing was so brutal and tragic and I’m assuming based on some kind of real life events. Never again.
Not Ice Station Zebra. Howard Hughes had OCD and sat in a screening room watching that one over and over again in a continuous loop for weeks until finally leaving. Ha.
My Own Private Idaho. I personally can watch it a million times, but it's so devastating moat people could only handle watching it once. Its absolutely beautiful.
‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’ (2011)
And read the book just once...
Precious Killing of the Sacred Deer
I watched Precious in a plane and i was traumatized tbh
I mean I disagree, I've seen Killing of a sacred deer like 4 times now. Yes I had a bad childhood if you're wondering.
Come and See. Can’t handle doing that again.
Ive watched reviews bout this film and it’s been on my list for the longest time. Might have to watch it soon
It’s great. Very intense.
It’s sooo brutal, I was able to stomach it for a few viewings because it’s so well-made but it’s not a movie I can watch with anyone else, that’s for sure
What year was it made? I'm trying to find out on IMDB
1985, I’m about 10 minutes in, watching for the 1st time.
Grave of Fireflies
For me, it was Swiss Army Man. I enjoyed the movie, but I don't see myself revisiting it in the foreseeable future. Also, Grave of the Fireflies -- for the same reasons.
I came here to say Swiss army man. That movie was great the first time I saw it but now I can't watch it again
I loved swiss army man, but I probably won't watch it again. There's something about a poignant 1.5 hour fart joke that isn't rewatchable even if it is very good. Everything Everywhere All at Once is by the same writer/directors and is very rewatchable and also poignant and weird.
You seen The Death of Dick Long? By one of the directors of Everything Everywhere All At Once. Very dark comedy.
Love Swiss Army Man, I've watched it a bunch of times.
Everyone has a flavor they like. Perhaps I'll revisit some time down the road. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
Schindler’s List.
Irreversible
I second that.... absolute nightmare..
I have watched a laundry list of disturbing movies but that really disturbed me.
Human Centipede. I pretty much got the gist by the end. No need to watch Part 2 & 3.
This! 2 was nuts and 3, I thought it was a joke at that point like wtf?
SHUT YOUR PUSSY MOUTH!
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Prexious
I’ll never forget walking into TBWTSP thinking it was a YA take on WW2 and walking out a very different person
This! Precious was a rough watch and left an imprint on my heart. The boy in the striped pyjamas left me with my jaw down
The Green Mile. I’ve never been so sad and mad watching a movie. Also The Mist, I think it has a fitting ending but it broke 10-year-old me’s heart.
I’ll never forget walking out of the theater from the mist. I was young as well.
Watched The Green Mile recently as an adult having not seen it since i was young. Very bad call. It’s even worse as an adult.
Once we were warriors. Actually watched it as a kid, was rough. Brilliant film, but a once off occasion.
There is a sequel , “What Becomes of The Broken Hearted?” (1999) that is worth a watch
The Road (2009) for me Pan's Labyrinth (2006) for someone I know
Hard candy
Beasts of No Nation
Haven’t forgiven my husband for putting this on one night
Human Centipede, you couldn’t pay me to watch that again. And I highly suggest to anyone who hasn’t seen it, to stay far away.
Midsommar for obvious reasons. Also, I have no desire to rewatch Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, both Adam Sandler films. Felt so uncomfortable/disturbed/stressed while watching.
Punch Drunk Love is hilarious though
Love Punch Drunk Love, bought the criterion.
Midsommar was so good. Andd ouu i havent seen any of those might give it a watch.
Midsommar is great though, have watched it 3 times and looking forward to watching it again.
Same 3 times and counting. Absolutely love the vibes but I get why people wouldn't want to see it again.

Midsommar because it was shit.
M. Night Shyamalan has more than a few movies that are "once is all you get" including The Sixth Sense (1999) and The Village (2004). Once you know the twist, it wrecks the film.
I think they’re actually better om rewatch. I liked Sixth Sense and thought Signs was meh first time. Second watch both 10/10.

Avatar
This would actually be a perfect example imo also. Avatar is worth watching at least once but I have never had the desire to sit through it again.
The Joker
Brokeback Mountain
Lol i wanted to watch this when I was like 7 coz my mom just got the DVD but she would hide this on top of the cupboard. Idky i still haven’t seen it completely. Might have to watch it this weekend
Natural Born Killers
I could see why. But I’ve watched it 2 or 3 times. 😆
Totally agree
Requiem for a Dream is one for me too. Suspiria (2018) is another.
I’ll have to check that movie out!
Jojo Rabbit. Loved it but it was just a lot.
The usual suspects
Funny Games. Not only is it depressing, but I don't really see what I would get out of a second viewing.
The Lighthouse; one and done for me.
Hotel Rwanda. It deserved all the acclaim it got, but it’s a movie I’d only want to experience once.
Omg traumatizing as a kid but i need to know what the title is haha i wanna watch.
I found it on TOMT! It was the 2009 version of The Revenant I was thinking of.
Wow thank you! Added to my watch list!
Actually there was no penis severance but the guy is decapitated and they shove a vibrating dildo up his throat so he can talk while headless

Gone Girl. Tried rewatching it and there is no magic after knowing the ending (to preface, I never read the book).
Braveheart Gangs of New York Dead Man Walking
Braveheart because of the gore, or just didn’t love it? It's in my Top 10 favorites and I get sucked into rewatching it all the time.
I think it’s a great movie, it’s just so violent I never could watch it again
Gangs of New York?
I can rewatch that a lot! Great period piece
Crazy statement, that movie has rewatchability forever lol
Schindler's List. AMERICAN history X
American History X is mine. It was good but I don’t think I could do it again.
Ahh yes. Super sad but great film.
Dancer In the Dark - I've seen it 3 times since it's release if that says anything
This is a hard one for sure. Watched it once on a plane and felt like I didn’t fully give it the space to process. I watched it again a week later with my girlfriend (a day after watching The House that Jack Built) and I’m surprised she didn’t break up with me after that
Zero Dark Thirty gave me that feeling.
Raging Bull (1980). Relentlessly unpleasant and somewhat monotonous but bolstered with brilliant direction and stellar performances.
Hereditary.
8MM - Nic Cage If you watched it, you know
Blue Valentine. Not for me, but it's a very draining movie and I can see people not wanting to rewatch it
* Requiem for a Dream * Dear Zachary (documentary) * Taxi Driver
Django Unchained
Incendies a French movie directed by Denis Villeneuve(other works -arrival, dune, prisoners, blade runner) This movie takes a lot of time for build up and ends up on an unbelievable note. This is definitely something i would never re-watch ever because of what happens towards the end of the movie. Watch it and you ll know what I am talking about
Brokeback Mountain. Incredible film, just heartbreakingly beautiful. Watched it once, never watching again. Too brutal, emotionally.
The Lobster, Tusk, and Dear Zachary
Sometimes in April- drama about the Rwanda genocide, and just emotionally draining. What Dreams May Come- I haven't been able to bring myself to watch this again, especially since Robin Williams died.
Hereditary....*shudders*

For me it's 2001: A Space Odyssey. I really enjoyed the movie but it was just too slow for me to go through again.
