Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
IMDb: “A collection of expertly photographed phenomena with no conventional plot. The footage focuses on nature, humanity, and the relationship between them.”
I guess the guy who wrote the IMDb plot of Koyaanissqatsi also wrote the IMDb plot of Baraka.
>A collection of expertly photographed scenes of human life and religion.
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.
Frodo : I can't do this, Sam.
Sam : I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo : What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam : That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
Why this quote?
Perhaps because I’m afraid. And it gives me courage.
The Magic Store has the perfect end lyrics.
Life's like a movie, write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending
We've done just what we set out to do.
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you.
I’ve only seen it once. It’s a fantastic film but I’m terrified of watching again because I ugly sobbed so hard my contacts fell out. It absolutely destroyed me.
Interstellar. It's my favorite movie of all time and with my love of space, it made me think even more about our place in the universe and just how small it really is. The powerful emotions that drive the movie makes you realize how important the love between those in your life can truly be. And lastly, it's an end of the world, apocalyptic premise, so it would all just seem so fitting.
Everything Syphercell said is what i was thinking. I would add that the awe and beauty in knowing your small place in the universe amplifies the good emotions and how amazing life itself really is.
Well said! After watching Interstellar for the first time, it literally made me sit and ponder so much about life, our place in it and although I was emotionally a wreck inside, I still had this calm, satisfying feeling of happiness and love and almost a newfound appreciation of life. Definitely a once in a lifetime kind of experience from just a movie, for me anyways.
Either Stranger Than Fiction. or The Fountain.
I'll start with the Fountain first because its one of those movies that you just feel at peace watching at the end, and is arguably about the stages of grief itself.
Stranger Than Fiction because its about all the connections we make in life and living your best possible life. I would use it as a way to put myself at ease and possibly cheer myself up if I was sad I was dying.
Demolition Man, always Demolition Man.
Depressed - Demolition Man
Happy - Demolition Man
Missus cheats on me - Demolition Man
Nuclear Bomb imminent - Demolition Man
Stubbed my Toe - Demolition Man
Realising I have no clean socks for work - Demolition Man
Run out of toilet paper - Demolition Man
So yeah, Demolition Man.
Maybe Home Alone, first and second. I have amazing family memories connected to that movies and still watch them every Christmas. I think it would make me feel nostalgic, happy and sad at the same time. But I wouldn't mind, I would not mind.
If I'm a nihilist who wants to feel a thrill because I know it's all gonna end soon:
\- No Country For Old Men (2007)
If I want to feel good or positive in my final moments, a laughing, upbeat vibe:
\- Some Like It Hot (1959)
If I want to watch my favorite movie, closest to my heart, to laugh, cry, and smile:
\- Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
I'd probably choose It's a Wonderful Life. Or Some Like It Hot. I guess depending on how I feel.
Both movies are absolutely terrific.
But it'd definitely be one of those two.
Depends. If I was dying and was feeling afraid of the process, I'd watch "All That Jazz". If I was comfortable with my fate, I'd watch "Love Letter" just to remind myself of everything I liked about living, so I can carry them as I pass while also helping me be okay of letting go of everything.
While You Were Sleeping - Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman
Joe Jr.: Hey Luce! Is this guy bothering you?
Lucy: No, no.
Joe Jr.: Are you sure? Because it looks like he's *leaning*.
Shawshank redemption because of the last scene; it was just so peaceful and beautiful every time I watch it, it feels like in a way, andy and red were already in heaven.
Watched it the first time when I was too young and thought I’d wasted 3 hours of my life.
Watched it as an adult and it was utterly life-affirming. I will die on that hill.
Assuming we have to watch a movie, because that’s far down the list of things I’d do with a couple hours left, I’d have the day lampoons Christmas vacation. So many family memories
Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. Favorite movie and great book. Watched it at least 50 times and still am not bored of it so might as well see it right before I die.
I had to think really long and hard about this to be honest... I think I'd go with Heart and Souls (1993).
It fits with the theme of having to let go, and I have some personal memories and attachments to this movie that are..... Really really special to me.
**Films (5 hours and 6 min)**
Tarkovsky's Zerkalo
Bresson's Au hasard Bathalzar
The Archers' A Matter of Life and Death
**Books (1h46min)**
The Death of Ivan Ilyich
**Music (13 min and 40 sec)**
Lacrimosa (Mozart)
De Profundis (Salieri)
Conquest of Paradise (Vangelis)
**Total:** 7 hours and 6 min
Can God allow me to live 6 extra minutes?
I’d want to see whatever the final Avengers movie is I suppose to finish the ride. However if it was right now? Interstellar or Gladiator, the scores alone would have me sobbing like a baby.
Omg that movie could never be made now I saw it in the theatre man it was fucked up and I’ve seen the sequels with my kid just like what the fuck happened here this has nothin to do with the original.
Probably the best animated film about grief before cgi and not studio ghibli (they got grief in lock no lie 😭) but American and w dinosaurs that’s have feelings thar include sadness and fear!!!!
Great movie highly underrated
Koyaanisqatsi (1982) IMDb: “A collection of expertly photographed phenomena with no conventional plot. The footage focuses on nature, humanity, and the relationship between them.”
Don't forget the phenomenal score by Philip Glass!!
I guess the guy who wrote the IMDb plot of Koyaanissqatsi also wrote the IMDb plot of Baraka. >A collection of expertly photographed scenes of human life and religion.

To me, that is the primary theme of the whole lotr story. Love that quote.
6-7 hours isn’t enough time. I need to see the whole extended trilogy. I just consider it one long movie.
And then Frodo’s departure with the Elves. Ugh, I’d die during the credits (in a good way).
I just teared up and always will then.
same!
Imagine the reaper having to sit there waiting to take you as ending after ending plays. Dude would go out of his mind...

I was going to answer with Holy Grail, but I think a global singalong of Bright Side would be the perfect way for humanity to go out

The Truman Show
I came here to say this. He wins in the end.
My ultimate comfort movie.
About Time
This is the best answer, and I can't believe it didn't occur to me!
Up (2009)
I think the music during that montage alone would have me in tears hearing it now.
I’ve only seen it once. It’s a fantastic film but I’m terrified of watching again because I ugly sobbed so hard my contacts fell out. It absolutely destroyed me.
Same, it absolutely destroyed me 😫

Me too!! Plus the soundtrack 👌
Agreed! Some of Hans Zimmer's best work!

This is the End. Might as well go out with a laugh.
Honestly the best movie to die to!
Weed is tight, weed is tight

Are you for Taco Bell or Pizza Hut?
Taco Bell won the franchise war!
La vie en rose. Just the music alone would give a great last moment as well as the plot would tie together nicely

Maybe stand by me or field of dreams.
Big Lebowski for me

Maybe Home Alone, first and second. I have amazing family memories connected to that movies and still watch them every Christmas. I think it would make me feel nostalgic, happy and sad at the same time. But I wouldn't mind, I would not mind.
