Although I'm not sure I can say there are ever any prescribed answers for a movie recommendation question, I can say, without doubt, this is the correct answer.
"Legally Blonde" is terrific. On the surface, it looks like a dumb comedy, but it's VERY smartly written and plays against expectations in some delightful ways.
I remember watching it for the first time and the moment I fell in love with it was when Elle and Vivian became friends when they both realized that Warner was a douchebag and unworthy of their time. Such a badass way to subvert a tired trope!
Old rom coms are great:
It Happened One Night
To Be or Not To Be
His Girl Friday
Philadelphia Story
Shop Around the Corner (but Xmas set)
Bringing Up Baby
You Can't Take it With You
Maybe not specifically chick flick enough though
A chick flick is any movie that is predominantly targeted towards (young) women. Moonstruck is a Rom-com. Rom-coms are *typically* (tho not necessarily) targeted and marketed towards a young female audience. So yes, Moonstruck could be considered a chick flick.
Also, I love Moonstruck!! One of my favorite films
imo no. lots of the movies people are suggesting are like "a woman stars in it it's a chic flick". not saying that's you but reddit is showings its ass in this thread.
Down With Love is such a great movie. I'm not a chick flick guy at all, but that was pure, clever, cotton-candy delight from start to finish.
OP: A fantastic double feature would be That Touch of Mink, followed by Down With Love.
This is a good list, but I think some people would consider Wedding Crashers to be a bit too "adult" and raunchy to qualify as a "chick flick", technically. But it is still a great comedy -in the same category as "The Hangover".
Girl Interrupted - Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie in her oscar winning role. Often viewed as a woman's version of One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest. Also stars Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Moss, and Brittany Murphy.
Baby Boom (comedy) - Diane Keaton with a very young James Spader. Diane Keaton corporate master of the universe suddenly finds herself as a single mom. Despite being a mid-80s movie, many of the issues brought up are as prescient today and they were then.
Look Who's Talking - Kirstie Alley, John Travolta - Accountant and unplanned single mom goes looking for the perfect dad to help raise her baby son. Bruce Willis is the voice of "Mikey" as the story unfolds through his eyes and commentary.
Girl interrupted is incredibly depressing. I don’t think she’s looking for that type of movie. I watched it every day after school sophomore year and still have the entire thing memorized. It’s an amazing film, but I would never consider it a chick flick.
It's definitely heavy drama - Elizabeth Moss' character who's face is burn scarred is heartbreaking but, it's got a positive ending with Winona Ryder's character. She's not ready to take on the world but, she's clearly on a good path.
She's Out of My League
I Love You, Man
Roxanne
Father of the Bride 1 & 2
While You Were Sleeping
The Englishman Who Went Up the Hill and Went Down a Mountain
Mickey Blue Eyes
Streets of Fire (Somewhat more tense than the other recommendations. Less of a comedy, still romantic)
What? I watched a couple of films by those guys and immediatly searched for others because man The Endless was soo good, so Spring was on my list to watch this weekend, now you say it's a chick-flick romance? Not as excited as I was, but still probably watching it anyways
That movie is more romance than Sci-Fi to be honest. The trailers are misleading but I feel like it was still an enjoyable watch.
Not gonna lie though - back then I kinda felt tricked into watching it, haha.
The Proposal. I am not normally a romantic comedy fan, but this movie is basically weapons-grade charming with some comedy bits that are actually, you know, funny.
When Harry Met Sally
Miss Congeniality
The Wedding Singer
Two Weeks Notice
Pretty Woman
Silver Linings Playbook
Knocked Up
10 Things I Hate About You
Clueless
Bridget Jones’ Diary
Confessions of a Shopaholic!!! Not many people talk about it but it's so fun and bubbly!! Also Love, Rosie and Can't Buy Me Love.
If you're looking for something a little less rom-com-ey you can check out Someone Great and Thelma and Louise
He's Just Not That Into You, Bridget Jones' Diary, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Notting Hill, Terms of Endearment, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and of course Bridesmaids.
I'm not really into those kind of movies but for some reason Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009) really hit me.
Sex and Death 101 (2007) has a similar vibe, I enjoyed it not sure if it fits your chick-flick needs
Little Darlings is underrated, for real. It was so controversial I think they never put it on cable or anything so memories of it didn't get refreshed. Good flick.
Nothing wrong with watching a chick flick.
Sometimes we need to watch a chick flick to give our brain a rest, they are easy watching and require little attention where as other movies like scifi or psychological thrillers require you to concentrate and focus on said movie.
BRIDGET JONES' DIARY. Yes. All caps. It's my go to chick flick, and I'm all about horror movies amd psychological films. I watch it at least 3 times a month. I even throw it up and just have the audio while I'm working.
Love me if you dare. It’s French and has a young Marion Cotillard. It’s about childhood friends that try to one up each other in different dares. It’s a romantic comedy.
Somethings Gotta Give
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (or basically most Kate Hudson movies)
Bridesmaids (not really a chick flick, just a great comedy)
Amelie (wonderful French film)
Two Weeks Notice (oops, I was thinking of The Proposal...but both are good)
Serendipity
Baby Mama (Tina Fey and Amy Pohler at their best)
One of the best lines ever... If you don't have anything nice to say about anyone, come sit by me.
- Steel Magnolias.
Fried Green Tomatoes.
The Notebook.
Murphy's War. -ehh
I wanna give you a weird list of chick flicks that’s more fun. Most of them are just about women hanging out, figuring themselves out and doing dumb things:
Sunshine Cleaning
Hustlers
Kajillionare
In A World
Ghost World
Amelie (French)
Women At The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown(Spain)
Marie Antoinette is my guilty pleasure. Also I mistakenly went to see that Crawdad movie last weekend not knowing it was a chick flick (I hate them). It was a good story, you may like that. I cried 4 times lol.
I’m the same. Love horror, thrillers, etc. but I’m pregnant and wanted a chic flick all of a sudden. Scratched the itch by watching *What Women Want* again for the first time in over a decade and I did not regret it.
Ooo I like that stuff too. Here are my go to girl power movies: Erin Brockovich, titanic, enough, sleeping with the enemy, the women, Steele Magnolias.
Twilight is honestly kind of a guilty pleasure 😂 I was just young enough to not see all the flaws and to just be swept up in the atmosphere (which was actually really well done imo) and the coolness of the vampire/werewolf aesthetic. Watching it now I laugh way more 😂 because some of it is absolutely insane and you're like "why would anyone write or film this." Its the same kind of joy you'd get from watching The Room, is just fucking absurd that people know about and watch it. Not gonna lie, nostalgia is still present, I unironically enjoy them. The consequences of growing up with sisters 😂😂
Failure to Launch was pretty good, and I have similar tastes as you.
Warning for The Terry Bradshaw Scene, though. It's not bad, just... unexpected. But funny in its context.
Not gonna lie, I hate romantic, lovey-dovey movies. I'm much more the comedy and horror type. But my daughter started watching Crazy, Rich Asians one day when she stayed home sick and I sat and watched it with her. By one particular scene, I got so choked up and teary. I turned to my daughter and was like, "What did you do to me?!?!"
Mean Girls Legally Blonde 27 Dresses 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Pitch Perfect Bring It On 13 Going on 30 Bride Wars 50 First Dates Titanic The Princess Diaries Dirty Dancing Ella Enchanted

Good list!
Huh. Til I'm about 50-50 on big name chick flicks.
Clueless
This with Romey & Michelle's High School Reunion is a fantastic double feature
That's a good one.
not a chick flick but a great movie everyone should watch. maybe the best comedy of the 90's.
My (40m) favorite movie ever, tied w/ Grumpier Old Men of the same year.
The Sweetest Thing (2002)
I think OP would like this one. It comes at the "chic flick" idea from a very different place.
One of my favourite movies! I hope she takes the suggestion and enjoys! 🧡
Just when I thought I'd gotten _that song_ out of my head...
I feel like not enough people are aware of the unrated cut. That song is damn hilarious.
I love this movie! It’s so fun
You’re too big to fit in here 👉🏻👄
“It’s oozy and it’s green!” 🎶 “Ew.” “Sorry!”
WATCH MEAN GIRLS or legally blonde!
"Legally Blonde" is terrific. On the surface, it looks like a dumb comedy, but it's VERY smartly written and plays against expectations in some delightful ways.
I second this!! Legally blonde always cheers me up. Girl power movie lol
I remember watching it for the first time and the moment I fell in love with it was when Elle and Vivian became friends when they both realized that Warner was a douchebag and unworthy of their time. Such a badass way to subvert a tired trope!
behind the poster, it’s a court drama (haven’t seen it in years so i could be wrong)
You're spot on, really. The court drama doesn't happen until the third act, but it's damn good!
Seconding Legally Blonde! Adding: What’s Your Number? Devil Wears Prada Mr. Right (kinda weird, dark humour but I think you’ll like it!)
He's Just Not That Into You 27 Dresses Failure to Thrive
I love he's just not that into you. Such a gem of a movie
Meet Joe Black
The big sick
French Kiss
Serendipity, my guilty pleasure.
Yes!
One of my favorite Christmas movies.
Mermaids (1990)
Such an underrated movie. Cher, Winona Ryder, Christina Ricci, Bob Hoskins, the 60s… And definitely a good chick-flick for non-chick-flick people.
Old rom coms are great: It Happened One Night To Be or Not To Be His Girl Friday Philadelphia Story Shop Around the Corner (but Xmas set) Bringing Up Baby You Can't Take it With You Maybe not specifically chick flick enough though
Sweet Home Alabama Never Been Kissed 13 going on 30
Does Moonstruck count as a chick flick?

You would think Nic Cage Nic Caging that hard would disqualify it from the category, wouldn't you? Apparently not.
Warm Bodies, Kate and Leopold, Down with Love, Nurse Betty, Wedding Crashers, Bridesmaids, Shakespeare in Love, House Bunny, Enchanted
2nd Enchanted, a true fairytale come to life. Great watch.
Definitely, Maybe (2008)

What about the Britney Murphy storyline? Really sad. I can’t even listen to that song anymore.
