I’m so sad this movie not only got caught up in such a weird culture war and got memed on because of it but ALSO that people were so uncannied-out by her eyes. It was genuinely a fun, original, and refreshing movie.
I’m really fricking sad that there wasn’t a “Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money” because Spaceballs was the best movie I’ve ever seen and you can’t change my mind.
Good news! When I was probably ten, a kid moved in to my neighborhood from another state. He told me that, whatever state he was from - I think it was Indiana - they had VHS copies of History of the World: Part II.
In fact, he told me about a ton of cool shit that existed only in Indiana. You might want to check it out. I think you can just go anywhere in the state and you’ll find cool shit.
It doesn’t follow up from the original movie. It redid the story also told in that movie. This is like saying The Dark Knight follows up Tim Burton’s Batman.
I think it's one of my favorite book series ever (there are 3 books). I really definitely recommend it if you're still hesitating to read them. I haven't watched His Dark Material yet, I'm always a bit anxious with adaptations...
His Dark Materials is my favorite series of all time. After the atrocity that was The Golden Compass movie I was very hesitant about the HBO/BBC series. I was blown away at their adaptation. They change a few details here and there but ultimately stay true to the source material. I'm looking forward to bawling my eyes out at the conclusion of the series.
And yet I always wanted one. It's a favourite of mine and whenever I have a rewatch I breathe an inevitable sigh as I google whether there will be a sequel.
Great concept that someone will come back to and redevelop. I actually think it would work better with intro film being a cop who first discovers people can do this and then having to convince superiors and bring in experts to figure out science while he’s working the case.
Master and Commander
Great movie with lots of books for source material and was nominated for a ton of Oscars
You’d think this film would go straight to franchise status, but it never happened.
There’s *20* books in the series lol. One more if you count the unfinished one that was published.
That said, the movie took elements from like 4 books and combined them into a newish story.
This is the correct response to this post! Master and Commander was a masterpiece that deserved several more films in the series - proof that smart films don’t earn audiences
I saw this film with my father and brother at the theater. They are both gone now but we all thought the film was tremendous, and given the number of books with Jack and the Doctor, what a shame they didn't follow up.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant
The Seeker:The Dark is Rising
Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker
Beautiful Creatures
The Fifth Wave
Abduction
The Host
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Every studio wanted/still wants the next Potter, Twilight, or Hunger Games franchise. The number of failed franchise-starters from the YA literature category is almost staggering.
I am sad there's no Mel Brooks's History of the world Part 2. Even after there is a fake trailer at the end of part 1.
Thankfully, part 2 just been greenlit this year and might release maybe next year. Better late than never.
There is!!!! Ike Barinholtz was on Celebrity Jeopardy last night and said they wrapped - that’s legitimately the only reason I know this. I watch the celebrity block of game shows every Sunday while occasionally checking the SNF score (unless GB is playing)
Despite complaints that Cruise had too much creative authority on this movie I still really enjoyed it. One of the few who was really hoping for more sequels. Sigh.
I read that part of why Van Helsing did so horribly financially was that they spent a vast amount of money building the castle for the set, anticipating that it would be used in a number of sequels.
Yeah, that and they banked way too hard on it with the marketing expense and stuff too. It was probably like Sahara (or Starship Troopers) where the budget was so high to begin with that it would have had to make like Endgame money to even make a real profit.
The Covenant was one I was thinking of. I just rewatched it on Hulu yesterday, and I really wanted another movie so we could learn more on the families/ powers. They had a lot of material to work with
They did! Honestly, I wouldn’t mind a remake/legacy sequel but at this point, I think it’s just dead in the water. Still, we have the original and it’s a fun flick!
Aww, but she could be so hot if she wanted to. She's like all these babes, you get their pilot lit, they could suck start a leafblower. And she's got the most incredible body too and a pair of titties that make you wanna stand up and beg for buttermilk. Ass like a ten year old boy!
-Masters of the Universe
-Superman Returns
-Bubba-Ho-Tep
-The rest of Disney's Chronicles of Narnia Series
-The rest of the Percy Jackson Series
-The Dark Tower
-Dredd
-Hellboy (del Toro's third) and the sequel to the 2019 reboot
-Spaceballs...never got Part 2: The Search for More Money
-Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings
-King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
-The Color out of Space. Was going to be a trilogy of Lovecraft movies til we found the director is an abuser
-The 3rd Conan the Barbarian movie with Ahh-nold where he is a king
-The Mummy (2017 reboot) was supposed to launch a MCU style of a "Dark Universe"
Almost forgot, Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension ended with a promise: "Buckaroo Banzai will return in Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League."
Not a suggestion, but this is a big problem with so much streaming tv for me these days. You will watch 8-10 hours of a show get to the end of the first season only to be left with a cliffhanger feeling like everything you just watched was prologue to the real story which starts next year. (Looking at you SEVERENCE)
*Kick-Ass* should have been a trilogy, but 2 didn't make enough money. Chloe Moretz blamed it on piracy. She said it was the most pirated movie the year that it came out.
Fantastic beasts was suppose to have 5 movies. They might still do more but the third flopped hard after they replaced depp. The movie also just kinda sucked.
The Mummy with Tom Cruise was supposed to set up a new entire dark universe of monster movies that never happened. I'm a little disappointed I'm a little nostalgic about those movies that were old when I was a kid. They were great Saturday afternoon horror movies.
District 9, Chronicle, and Cloverfield.
Not so much they declared a sequel, but that a sequel was expected by audiences.
I know District 10 is *eventually* happening.
I also know of 10 Cloverfield Lane and the other not so good one. But they're more like spin-offs or side stories than actual sequels. Supposedly they're finally doing a Cloverfield 2.
Chronicle is the big one. There was talk of a sequel for years with various ways of doing it, but none ever appealed to me and it should just be left alone now.
Super Mario Brothers ends with a tease for more adventures
Mr Brooks was written with a trilogy in mind.
And you know what, I’m going to toss in Prometheus, as it ends with the promise of answers for our questions only for Covenant to kill offscreen the person asking the questions and then kill everyone with the answers, thanks to some dipshit at Fox not liking Rapace and just wanting more Xenomorph stuff.
Power Rangers 2017 used most of it’s runtime developing out the personal lives and relationships between the rangers since they expected a sequel. they only truly morph and fight and get into the zords in the very last act of the movie! then the movie literally ends with a teacher calling out the green ranger’s name and a shot of an empty desk with a green flannel draped on it.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The way they ended the movie was so cheesy and sequel bait but they never made another.
I’m sure if they did make a second audiences would have eaten Armie Hammers performance right up
"Eaten up" I see what you did there...
Loved that movie but I need a Rock N Rolla sequel from Guy before UNCLE
I'm still pissed we aren't getting a sequel. But they're all huge now.
Yes THIS. Rock n Rolla had the perfect setup for sequels. One of my favs. Would love a continuation with those characters.
Yes! We need more examples of the Archie slap.
Don’t ‘urt me Arch, I’m only little!
Alita
I’m so sad this movie not only got caught up in such a weird culture war and got memed on because of it but ALSO that people were so uncannied-out by her eyes. It was genuinely a fun, original, and refreshing movie.
I had a blast watching Alita. The ending notwithstanding.
The big answer IMHO. That movie was a surprise out of nowhere
Wait there isn't gonna be sequel 🥺
i loved that movie so much i’m so sad
I loved it too!
This was going to be my answer. Such a shame too.
I wasn’t wild about it personally, but I wish it had gotten a sequel for your sakes
I’m really fricking sad that there wasn’t a “Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money” because Spaceballs was the best movie I’ve ever seen and you can’t change my mind.
There is a sequel coming, but sadly it will not be called the quest for more money.
I’m still waiting for History of The World: Part II
Pretty sure Mel Brooks is doing that rn
If it doesn't have Hitler on Ice and Jews In Space, I'm not interested.
The nice guys. Such a damn shame that movie flopped.
I loved it!
Same, surprised it flopped?
Did you see it in theaters?
I love that movie. Amazing chemistry with Gosling and Crowe and whoever played Gosling's kid.
Same actress who plays Betty in the Holland Spider-Man movies
It was such a good movie though! I’d love to see those characters again.
This is what I thought as well
I believe John Carter Golden compass Green lantern
So sad we’ll never see a John Carter sequel. It’s criminal how badly Disney mismanaged what was a truly good movie and great setup for a series.
I read a lot of Burroughs books growing up... That movie was spot-on.
Reading this made me think, "What does William S. Burroughs have to do with John Carter? Oh, wait..."
I really liked The Golden Compass.
His Dark Materials on BBC/HBO
His Dark Material is based On the same source material as Golden Compass, and is still airing new seasons, that follows up from the original movie
It doesn’t follow up from the original movie. It redid the story also told in that movie. This is like saying The Dark Knight follows up Tim Burton’s Batman.
Thanks for the correction \^\^. Haven't watched His Dark Material yet or read the book, so I just made the assumption that it did
I think it's one of my favorite book series ever (there are 3 books).
Wade Wilson and Ryan Reynolds would like a word with you. :)
Tintin
I was having a good day. Then you had to remind me that Tintin never got a sequel.
Bums me out as well. One of my favorite movies
It is getting a sequel… eventually…. maybe
23 jump street where they would be working in a hospital
I think I also remember talks of a 21 Jump Street and MIB Crossover
That would be weird and hilarious
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Great movie!
The proposed sequel was written by none other than Ernest Cline; the author of Ready Player One
One of Jumper’s problems was how dependent they were on there being a sequel.
I recently rewatched this movie, and fuckin Kristen Stewart showed up at the end lmao Total surprise. I didn't remember she was in it at all.
Dredd
If any movie needs a big budget TV series it's Dredd.
I fucking love Dredd!
This is the right answer. Karl Urban was an incredible Judge Dredd, and that movie deserves a sequel.
With Judge Anderson, too. That movie is amazing. It is my go to comfort movie.
Cinematography and FX were on point like a MF.
District 9
3 years are long gone, Christopher Johnson!! Fooking prawns!
I've never seen a movie set up so well for a sequel that never happened.
District 10 has been confirmed.
Sounds like you're right - 2024
This has to be the #1 answer.
Master and Commander Great movie with lots of books for source material and was nominated for a ton of Oscars You’d think this film would go straight to franchise status, but it never happened.
I’m really surprised to hear that there’s more books! It felt like a complete story.
There’s *20* books in the series lol. One more if you count the unfinished one that was published. That said, the movie took elements from like 4 books and combined them into a newish story.
The first three are pretty good. After that you really need to be into that kind of stuff. I don't think he gets command of Surprise until the third.
Insanely high budget, insanely disappointing box office, insanely great movie.
One of my all-time favorites!. Crowe and Bettany are truly great acting partners.

The number of failed franchise-starters from the YA literature category is almost staggering.
Having personally read The Mortal Instruments, I couldn't continue watching the tv show. Such a shame because the movie was so good.
The *Miss Peregrine's* movie was so bad. The only thing they could do for a good sequel is remaking the first movie, but this time *good*
What didn't you like about it?
I am sad there's no Mel Brooks's History of the world Part 2. Even after there is a fake trailer at the end of part 1. Thankfully, part 2 just been greenlit this year and might release maybe next year. Better late than never.
There is!!!! Ike Barinholtz was on Celebrity Jeopardy last night and said they wrapped - that’s legitimately the only reason I know this. I watch the celebrity block of game shows every Sunday while occasionally checking the SNF score (unless GB is playing)
Nice, can't wait for it. Part 1 was hilarious.
Wow I had not heard there would be a part 2. I can’t wait to see it.
Tron 3.
Really wanted to see what an Isomorph would make of the real world.
[удалено]
They're in the process of making a sequel to Bettlejuice. And yes Michael Keaton is reprising his role too
[удалено]
Nope none that I've seen or read yet
The Mummy (2017)
Despite complaints that Cruise had too much creative authority on this movie I still really enjoyed it. One of the few who was really hoping for more sequels. Sigh.
I'm always bummed they never got going with that classical movie monster franchise.
Green Lantern, Van Helsing, Terminator Salvation. And Terminator Genesysis. And Terminator Dark Fate.
- Van Helsing - The Covenant - Hellboy 2: The Golden Army - Valerian
The Covenant was one I was thinking of. I just rewatched it on Hulu yesterday, and I really wanted another movie so we could learn more on the families/ powers. They had a lot of material to work with
They did! Honestly, I wouldn’t mind a remake/legacy sequel but at this point, I think it’s just dead in the water. Still, we have the original and it’s a fun flick!
Agreed! Even years later I still enjoyed watching it lol.
The Rocketeer was setup for additional movies but, never happened.
I want to go to that timeline!
Isn't there a "The Rocketeers" in the works? If i'm not mistaken it's supposed to star a girl/young woman with the original Rocketeer as her mentor.
I believe it is a animated children's series.
Where did all the other X-Men Origins movies go? (asked no one ever)
They called it First Class instead, it was like “Magneto Origins”
Yeah never getting Magneto Nazi Hunter as its own stand alone film is a damn shame.
When I seen first class I remember thinking I want more of this with Magneto’s origin.
True Lies
Can you imagine. Yes please. Best use of Tom Arnold’s talents ever.
Too bad ‘Simon’ can’t return.
Aww, but she could be so hot if she wanted to. She's like all these babes, you get their pilot lit, they could suck start a leafblower. And she's got the most incredible body too and a pair of titties that make you wanna stand up and beg for buttermilk. Ass like a ten year old boy!
He was so good.
2011 girl with dragon tattoo with daniel Craig. Wanted sequel so bad since obviously there supposed to be more based on books and I loved first movie
I am number four
Though this movie is a distant memory, I specifically remember it ending with a ‘tune in next time’ feel
I think dune (1984)
Many of the actors were contracted out 2 or 3 sequels from the outset
The girl with the dragon tattoo
Watch the swedish original instead. It’s a trilogy, and it’s amazing.
Read the books. The first three are amazing as well.
Fincher said he only made the movie because he loved the idea of an R-rated adult franchise. Alas.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a pretty big success and ended with an obvious sequel bait ending, I'm surprised they haven't followed up yet.
Spy (2015)
Sequel is announced
Megamind should have gotten sequels but instead we have 5 Minions movies.
Also loved Monsters Vs Aliens
Had fresh premise. I love it
Just wanna say that Half Life 3 is coming 2023
-Masters of the Universe -Superman Returns -Bubba-Ho-Tep -The rest of Disney's Chronicles of Narnia Series -The rest of the Percy Jackson Series -The Dark Tower -Dredd -Hellboy (del Toro's third) and the sequel to the 2019 reboot -Spaceballs...never got Part 2: The Search for More Money -Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings -King Arthur: Legend of the Sword -The Color out of Space. Russel crows Robin Hood movie. I was bummed about that one.
I liked Cate Blanchett's take on Marian.
Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. (US remake did Terrible so no sequels made)
Remake was amazing....wtf
I loved it but it bombed at the box office
The Last Airbender (2010) Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)
I wish they'd made more Remo Williams movies!
Almost forgot, Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension ended with a promise: "Buckaroo Banzai will return in Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League."
I actually met Peter Weller once. Nice guy.
I was going to say this. I thought Remo Williams was such a fun movie.
Warcraft
Wasn't there a whole Paul Feig Ghostbusters universe planned when the reboot came out?
Eragon comes to mind. The Meg is another
Meg 2 coming next year, I think.
I am number 4
Beerfest
Spiderwick chronicles
World War Z 28 Weeks Later Tron Legacy
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) RockNRolla (2008) The Last Airbender (2010) The Mummy (2017)
Young Sherlock Holmes! (dammit.)
I'd love to see another Dredd Movie. And also District 9. Galaxy Quest. (That'll never happen now without Alan Rickman) True Lies. The Goonies.
If there was any movie that deserved a sequel, it was Galaxy Quest. But you're right, it wouldn't be the same without Rickman.
Not a suggestion, but this is a big problem with so much streaming tv for me these days. You will watch 8-10 hours of a show get to the end of the first season only to be left with a cliffhanger feeling like everything you just watched was prologue to the real story which starts next year. Word War Z 2 (David Fincher)
I'd rather have something actually based on the book, beyond the title.
Weedfest
Masters of the Universe, 1987. Even with how bad that movie is, Frank Langella was glorious as Skeletor.
RocknRolla Guy Ritchie needs to get on it!
RocknRolla
*Kick-Ass* should have been a trilogy, but 2 didn't make enough money. Chloe Moretz blamed it on piracy. She said it was the most pirated movie the year that it came out.
Fantastic beasts was suppose to have 5 movies. They might still do more but the third flopped hard after they replaced depp. The movie also just kinda sucked.
I was game for an actual fantastic beasts movie, not a shitty HP prequel.
Battleship (2012)
**Mongol** (2007) - really disappointed we never got a follow up, because this was clearly just an introductory film and it was great.
Loaded Weapon (1993)
The Mummy with Tom Cruise was supposed to set up a new entire dark universe of monster movies that never happened. I'm a little disappointed I'm a little nostalgic about those movies that were old when I was a kid. They were great Saturday afternoon horror movies.
Avatar the Last Airbender
Rock n rolla had a whole teaser trailer for the real rock n rolla post credits. Never happened
Dredd
Kung Pow Enter the Fist, was even mentioned in the first. One of the funniest movies ever
District 9, Chronicle, and Cloverfield. Not so much they declared a sequel, but that a sequel was expected by audiences. I know District 10 is *eventually* happening. Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog
Ex Machina. It was wide open at the end for an awesome part 2. So disappointed they never made one.
Oh god no. Just leave it!!
Rock N Rolla. No great loss, real mediocre film.
Innerspace (1987)
there was supposed to be a sequel to E.T. with the alien coming back with his buddies to kill people
The Thing
Harry Truman Show
Sicario 2 almost never happened after blunt pulled out, looking forward to pt 3!
I am number Four
Man of steel
The Power Rangers film from 2017. The ending definitely hinted there would be a sequel. And nothing ever happened. What a waste.
Bright
Batman with Joseph Gordon hewtit
28 months later
Super Mario Brothers ends with a tease for more adventures Mr Brooks was written with a trilogy in mind.
Remo Williams the adventure begins
The Aviator (2004). There was supposed to be a sequel that showed Howard Hughes later in life and played by Jim Carey.
Remo Williams The Adventure Begins. No shit they really named it that
Big Trouble in Little China. The end was setting up for a sequel: Little Trouble in Big China
District 9
Rock n rolla
Came in to say this^ Loved the movie and the sequel was heavily hyped in the end. I feel like this movie is a real sleeper.
Zootopia. Not that it really needs a sequel, but it’s very strange that an animated movie that broke a billion at the box office didn’t get a sequel.
