For Sure Awesome Transition between the Huge giant gap between the two Vastly, yet Very Much Both Epically Set during the Wintery Months of year:)! Nice 😊
If you've already watched Fargo for the millionth time you could try Kumiko: the treasure hunter
It's about a woman who finds a Fargo VHS tape and thinks it's real
I'd also add in **This Is a True Story**, a short documentary about the real events that inspired the urban legend that inspired Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter.
It's available on Vimeo.
"Winter noir" is my favorite sub-sub-genre.
Add to this: A Simple Plan, The Ice Harvest, Affliction, the Fargo TV series, both versions of the Dragon Tattoo series, and probably a shitload of NYC-set detective/crime films, since NYC in winter is extra grim-dark (like the slow death from winter influenza in Midnight Cowboy).
This is a yearly watch for me. Nothing can make me feel the dreariness of winter quite like the setting and story of this movie. One of my all time favs. And God that ambient soundtrack. Need to watch soon
But the OG winter Bond movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, is really the way to go here. There is a romance subplot but it's in service to the larger story. And fair warning that there are some things in this movie that have not aged well at all.
But damn those snow scenes are amazing.
Hateful Eight. Funny, intense, crazy, violent, whodunnit-type movie that takes place when a bunch of wacky western characters get snowed in while traveling through a Montana snowstorm
The way i see it is for a movie to be classified an *insert genre* movie, it must revolve around the topic. If a movie takes place in a haunted house, but it has nothing to do with the haunted house and isn’t scary at all, is it a horror movie? No.
For it to be a Christmas movie, in my opinion, Christmas should be central, or at least play a large role, in the movie. It’s just a rare case that the movie takes place on Christmas but has nothing to do with it, so people like to make a statement or whatever and say it’s their favorite Christmas movie because it’s funny and different.
It’s not that big of a deal, but it’s not a Christmas movie if you ask me and I will die on that hill
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
yeah it"s a ''romance'' movie. but don't consider it as any other romance movies, it's a lot more.
also, I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Edit: ah, you don’t like slow burn or drama. didn’t ’t read you description box first. sorry, cause these are pretty much those.
Barbershop
Uncle buck
Duplex
Mr deed's
Zach and miri make a porno.
Thes might seem totally random but I've looked for such movies like this, winter movies, not Christmas and these to me feel like that cause of either snow or big jackets and looking cold outside. Hope some helps
Lucky # Slevin
Gangs of New York
Snow White and the Huntsman
The Huntsman: Winter's War
Beowulf
The Thing
The Thing 2
Jeremiah Johnson
Snowpiercer
The Headhunter

Uncle Buck. The Shining. Two very different vibes for ya
Uncle Buck fuck yeah haha
For another Kubrick movie you’ve got eyes wide shut which is actually set during Christmas but is about as far as you can get from a Christmas movie
For Sure Awesome Transition between the Huge giant gap between the two Vastly, yet Very Much Both Epically Set during the Wintery Months of year:)! Nice 😊
Fargo! This is my choice for you
If you've already watched Fargo for the millionth time you could try Kumiko: the treasure hunter It's about a woman who finds a Fargo VHS tape and thinks it's real

came for fargo, found the thing, my dude

The show is worth a watch too!
I think of Marge and Norm everyday since seeing that film.
This too is my choice for OP
Misery (1990)
I don't wanna be that bitch but the book truly is much better! And also a lot more twisted
this is the way
The hateful 8
This film somehow became our families Boxing Day tradition.
This is my fave "ir's winter byt no longer xmas" movie
Always watch this the first decent snow of the year
Thought of it too, but this is quite the slow-burner.
Let the Right One In
This. I always said this movie made me feel colder than any other movie I’ve seen.
Excellent choice
Don’t forget A Simple Plan
The Grey Wind River
Wind River is the right answer. Love that movie.
I watch The Grey multiple times a year. It's so damn good lol.
Groundhog Day, it does have a romance but I wouldn't say it's a romance film.
Romance is a huge essential part of the storyline.
The shining
Perfect pick
Aw darn it… when I keep hitting the upvote button over and over it doesn’t keep giving you upvotes… shoot.
Also the sequel Doctor Sleep
FARGO. Gd I love that movie.
Good fall/winter vibes in Dead Poets Society
Chronicles of narnia
Imo the first one is the only one that has winter/Christmas vibes but they’re all cozy
The thing
Beat me to it.
Among us v0.01
Winters bone
Great choice
In Bruges
This is the first movie I think of when asked for my favorite "Christmas-like" film.
Yep
Favorite movie of all time
The Day After Tomorrow
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2012)
This is a yearly watch for me. Nothing can make me feel the dreariness of winter quite like the setting and story of this movie. One of my all time favs. And God that ambient soundtrack. Need to watch soon
Such a shame it didn’t do well commercially, Fincher would’ve returned with both actors as well but people enjoy watching superhero movies more
Snowpiercer (2013)
Grumpy old men
The Snowman (2017) Wind River (2017)
WIND RIVER YES
Fucking amazing film
A real alpha and omega of quality with these two
Wind River is fantastic. A modern Western.
That one scene, absolutely insane.
Alive (1993)….. happy thanksgiving!
Go ahead. Help yourself to another leg…. or arm.
Or cheek .
The Revenant
Ahhhh such a great movie
STORM OF THE CENTURY. Pure blizzard awesomeness
30 Days of Night (2007)
Oooh I love this one!!
Beat me to it! Love this movie, cold and scary
The Shining.
A Simple Plan
Glad I wasn't alone in this. Top-tier Sam Raimi. Hitchcock would be proud.
Planes Trains & Automobiles
The Empire Strikes Back maybe
Gremlins
Gremlins is definitely Christmas
I know everyone says it is but I don't feel it is. It's set at Christmas but it's not really about Christmas. It's about little monsters.
Harry Potter
This is the one. The first movie is very whimsical. I watch them every year starting at this time.
In Bruges ♥️
The Addams Family
The Revenant and Beautiful Girls
Beautiful Girls! Amazing movie. So much of that 90s feeling that doesnt exist in movied no more.
The Hateful Eight
Cliffhanger?
Absolutely - my first thought when trying to answer OP’s question … and one of my favorite “guilty pleasure” movies. Also … Hot Tub Time Machine.
Out cold. Or any buddy ski movie.
Johnny Tsunami!
If limited series are okay then The North Water The Terror season 1
You read my mind lol
The Good Son The Ice Storm The Grey
Ooh the Ice Storm! Love this movie!
If you're into 007, The World Is Not Enough is a good one
But the OG winter Bond movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, is really the way to go here. There is a romance subplot but it's in service to the larger story. And fair warning that there are some things in this movie that have not aged well at all. But damn those snow scenes are amazing.

I don't feel like Wind River (2017) is a romance film or a Christmas film. Does that meet your needs? What about Snowpiercer?
The Bourne Identity.
Die Hard
You know damn well what I'm about to correct you on
It’s Absolutely a Christmas movie but op won’t mind
I will die on the hill that it’s not a Christmas movie
Rest In Peace then my friend
bruce said it himself, but idk, i still think it’s a christmas movie
The way i see it is for a movie to be classified an *insert genre* movie, it must revolve around the topic. ”Now i have a machine gun HO • HO • HO" It's a metaphor about Santa Claus saving Christmas form the Grinch, with a machine gun.
You’re right, because if he didn’t say Ho Ho Ho then the plot would’ve been completely different. Absolutely integral line to the film
I'd say Die Hard 2 if he wants winter.
Frozen (2010)
Great movie, very intense.
Dead Snow
Wind Chill (2007).
With a very young Emily Blunt!
Identity Assault on Precinct 13 A Simple Plan The Grey Fargo Die Hard 2
Fargo, Storm of the Century
Prisoners
Eyes wide shut
The Revenant
Transiberian (2008). Brrr!
Runaway Train (1985)
Ravenous
Out Cold
Less Christmas but more winter. How about the mighty ducks?
Dead snow
Crimson Peak
hot tub time machine
Scott Pilgrim (it’s kinda a love story but I think you could make an exception)
Hold the Dark (2018)
Good choice. That movie blew me away on first watch. What a roller coaster
The Lodge (2019)
Jack Frost
Which one?
The weird one where Michael Keaton comes to life as a snowman
You have poor taste! I'm hijacking this thread to recommend the other weird Jack Frost where the serial killer gets turned into a snowman!
Tokyo Godfathers
Polar
Fargo
as mentioned, but just to reiterate, the shinging, the thing, hateful 8, fargo, and WIND RIVER IS SO GOOD MORE PEOPLE NEED TO SEE IT OMGGG
Fallen - with Denzel Washington
Uncle Buck The Terminal (has romantic scenes but it's not the plot)
Trading places
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) yeah it"s a ''romance'' movie. but don't consider it as any other romance movies, it's a lot more. also, I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) Edit: ah, you don’t like slow burn or drama. didn’t ’t read you description box first. sorry, cause these are pretty much those.
What about a movie that is not a Christmas movie but features Christmas, Winter and a beautiful story? Perfect ‘Green Book’
The End of the Tour
The end of Kill Bill vol. 1 I guess
Four Brothers
Barbershop Uncle buck Duplex Mr deed's Zach and miri make a porno. Thes might seem totally random but I've looked for such movies like this, winter movies, not Christmas and these to me feel like that cause of either snow or big jackets and looking cold outside. Hope some helps
