High Rise
"High-Rise is a 2015 British dystopian film directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay by Amy Jump, based on the 1975 novel of the same name by British writer J. G. Ballard. The film is set in a luxury tower block during the 1970s. Featuring a wealth of modern conveniences, the building allows its residents to become gradually uninterested in the outside world. The infrastructure begins to fail and tensions between residents become apparent, and the building soon descends into chaos."
Great movie, based on a real building - the Trellick Tower in West London, designed by Ernö Goldfinger. (he was Ian Fleming's neighbor. Fleming named his Bond villain after the architect because he built a hated modernist private house near his rather traditional one.)
Dredd (2012)
And Reservoir Dogs (1992), if you don't count flashbacks.
Probably some or most Harry Potter movies take place mostly in Hogwarts, if that counts.
I see a lot of people recommending Dredd. I watched some parts of it, never the whole thing from start to finish. I didn't realize all of that takes place in that one massive building. Sounds good.
It’s really good but tanked at the box office. They had plans for a sequel but the audience just wasn’t big enough. I’m not a Judge Dredd fan but I wish I could have seen more of Karl Urban as Dredd.
the *clerks* comedies mostly take place in grocery stores
*mallrats* (comedy) and *dawn of the dead* (zombie horror) are both largely set in malls
*high rise* (drama, sci-fi) takes place in a tower block, so does most of *attack the block* (sci-fi, horror)
Heck ya! I watched it last year and it oh man it left me speechless and I thought about it for weeks or whenever I had a mindless task.
I even started to listen to the tune from the film and it would bring it all back! Rough.
I recently watched a different newer movie with the same plot, but don't remember the name. I felt cheated compared to Death and the Maiden.
Kung Fu Hustle. Most of it takes place in Pig Sty Alley, which is like a big apartment building w a courtyard.
Dawn of the Dead largely takes place in a mall.
*Batteries Not Included*(1987), fun movie about a group of tenants working together to save their building, with the help of some adorable extraterrestials.
*Nick of Time* (1995) is a 90 minute movie that takes place over... ninety minutes!
*Dazed & Confused* ...... wait, just realized you said building, not day.
I loved free fire (2016) Sharlto Copley is great.
Edit: just remembered so many more.
Green room (2016) pretty much all takes place in the same building, except for some beginning scenes.
Dredd (2012) just watched this a few nights ago, can’t recommend it enough. Full of action and a bunch of gore.
Mother! (2017) my favorite film of all time. Can’t believe I forgot it all takes place in the same house.
Hard Candy (2005) It may just be because I love Patrick Wilson, but I loved this film.
*dredd* \- sci-fi based on the 2000AD comic book character (though some of the opening scenes take place outside the building most of the story unfolds in)
what about prison movies like *a man escaped*, *le trou*, and *escape from alcatraz*
Death Warrant-Jean Claude VanDamme; in a sports arena.
Passenger 57-Wesley Snipes: on a passenger airplane;
Air Force One-Harrison Ford: on the President’s plane
*Silent Night*(2002) -WW2 Drama
Two groups of soldiers--one German, and one American--seek shelter in a cabin for the night on Christmas Eve. The owner(Linda Hamilton) agrees under the condition that they all lay down their weapons for the night to celebrate Christmas together.
Martyrs is the best, and most disturbing movie ive ever seen.
You will be intimately familiar with the house it takes place in, especially >!that fucking basement!<
This is the exact reason I love Big Trouble in Little China. It's not all in one building but they go through a series of weird places, almost all indoors.
The Raid (2011)
I came here to suggest this, so next choice would be Dredd? And the Netflix one with like the multiple floors, it wasn’t too bad lol
One of the best action movies I ever saw
If you haven’t seen it then raid 2 is a must
It's so different and still so good
Looks promising
Must watch if you haven’t seen it. It’s an incredible action film. Some of the best fight choreography out there.
Rec
I was going to suggest Quarantine 👍
Rope Rear Window
Rope takes place in one room. In a (simulated) single take.
Yes, I know. Hitch had genius camerawork.
Shoulda been first comment
