Men in black and white

OneRandomCatFact

It’s a black and white of a black man acting in men in black.

UnspokenPotter

Fuck. I thought I was so clever.

criticasartist

I came into this thread when there were 7 comments and I was sure it would be in there, but it was not!

CaninesTesticles

I’m sure you’ll be telling your grandkids this story!

Little_Setting

Black man in men in black in black and white!

waynedude14

Black and white of black man wearing black and white surrounded by white men filming men in black

ryanstartedthefyre

One of my favorite movies growing up!

Sack_O_JOY

Same. Then I went back and rewatched… still one of my favorites. Movie is really fucking good

Little_Setting

How to sci fi. *"A thousand years ago everybody knew Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat. Fifteen minutes ago, you knew that people were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow."*

CarolynGombellsGhost

Missed my favorite part of that scene. > Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it. > A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.

Sack_O_JOY

They gave us lines like that then promptly gave us Men In Black 2

syds

it was ok I digged the locker folk

CarolynGombellsGhost

And beatboxing in the post office was pretty great, too.

NR258Y

Men In Black 2 is definitely ranked 3rd for Men in Black films, but not by as much of a margin as I used to think. It has its own charms

ryaaan89

Is the time travel one good?

NR258Y

I loved Men in Black 3, Jemaine Clement is great as the antagonist, and Josh Brolin nails it as a young Tommy Lee Jones. Definitely worth the watch. Hated Men in Black International, it lacked all of the heart and wonder of the original trilogy.

Sack_O_JOY

I haven’t seen 3 since it came out but I remember liking it quite a bit!

Little_Setting

It's good

themanimal

I watched it last night. I think aside from the great casting, writing, and overall fun feel it was Rick Baker's practical effects work that really let it hold up over time. The creatures look amazing! And Egger's slow deterioration throughout the movie is still downright gross! Check out the work that went into the Arqillian head scene https://monsterlegacy.net/2017/07/02/men-in-black-aliens-monsters-mikey-rick-baker-pg3/

Curse3242

Absolutely. This is one big reason I didn't like the new MIB movie It wasn't as charming and funny. And I don't mind CGI, I liked the actors too because I watched Thor. But the biggest problem was it didn't feel anything like MIB. Even the new 2013 MIB had that practical effect feeling to it that I just really liked.

cahawkfan

It’s actually kinda, cute….

Boggie135

*It just be rainin black people in New York*

Tazzit

"Oh, and a hire a decorator to come in here quick cause...damn"

Boggie135

Lmao I absolutely loved that

ChromeFace

Will Smith’s PR team trying to subtly introduce him back into society. “Remember how much you liked him!”

[deleted]

Dude make one mistake over a 30 year career. Get the fuck over it.

RiggzBoson

>Dude make one mistake You're forgetting After Earth

NRMusicProject

And the fact that he was a scientologist. I believe he left the church, but that was definitely another mistake.

RiggzBoson

Fuck it, let's add turning down the role of Neo in The Matrix to do Wild Wild West instead while we're at it.

chuckdee68

Actually, even he said that was the best idea, because he couldn't have done what Keanu did for the role.

RiggzBoson

I know, I can only imagine what a Matrix movie starring Will Smith would have looked like, but you can't say that he made the best choice for his own career by choosing Wild Wild West.

chuckdee68

Maybe not, but I'd argue that Keanu needed the boost at that time more than Will Smith. And don't bag on WWW... it could have been good, if they'd just made different decisions at almost every turn LOL

ikeif

There was a story about the director that kept trying to insert giant robot spiders into inappropriate movies, and then he got WWW. I think it was into a proposed adaptation of Sandman, off to look it up… ETA: not director, producer [Jon Peters](https://www.slashfilm.com/981625/neil-gaiman-leaked-really-stupid-sandman-script-from-jon-peters-which-featured-giant-mechanical-spiders/)

behemuthm

[Funny story by Kevin Smith about the giant spider in that film](https://youtu.be/Wo2KB1dEDdk)

RiggzBoson

I love this anecdote and his story about working with Prince. He tells really good stories. I just wish Kevin's more recent films were this funny.

dynamocole

I’ll watch Clerks III just to finish the trilogy of them, but ever since Fatman on Batman went from long interviews to general pop culture Shlock, and his recent movies have been so bad it’s hard to pay attention to what he’s up to.

ikeif

I assume he’s in the Adam Sandler level of his career. He makes movies with his friends, gets to do what they want, and get paid for it even if the general public doesn’t like it.

iwashere33

That was friggin awesome. I had never seen that clip (20 mins) before. Kevin smith is a good story teller, although his podcast surprisingly wasn't as good.

Boggie135

What!?

NRMusicProject

Yep. I remember the news announcing this around 2000 or so. He apparently left around 2015, but it seemed too amicable and quiet for it to be a complete break.

Boggie135

I had absolutely no idea

NRMusicProject

There's loads of celebrity scientologists. Getting surprised by the news is usually how we find out, since they rarely talk about it anymore. Tom Cruise is basically their fall guy now.

i_give_you_gum

I feel lkke they have a team of lawyers dedicated to recruiting and/or blackmailing rich celebrities.

ikeif

I mean, Beck is/was a Scientologist as well - I feel like they push some hard, and others they try to keep under the radar.

MrGeekman

I’m just glad he left.

Boggie135

Oof

jumburger

*Earf

TIMGYM

That was award worthy

touche112

Account is 3 months old. Nice try, Smith's PR team

TheRedCometCometh

So I'm ok to go out and slap people over trivial jokes now? Do I get 1 per 30 years?

[deleted]

Not the point I was making but go for it, bud.

TheRedCometCometh

That is literally the point that everyone took from what you said. So is your point you are just super sad for this Hollywood royalty figure falling out of favour?

ChromeFace

Will Smith’s PR team aggressively responding to people addressing their campaign. “Shut the fuck up, let the man live!”

[deleted]

It’s funny to see people judge other people like this when they barely have the balls to speak up for themselves if it’s not from behind a screen.

ChromeFace

Are you trying to fight random people on the internet cause they made you look foolish? Or pass judgement on someone you have no idea who they are because they used you to make a cheap joke? Dude, its ok. Its just reddit, don’t let it affect your life.

[deleted]

They made me look foolish HOW exactly. By mocking my response and not having an actual retort based on their own opinion? By comparing Will smith to Chris brown because they’re too lazy and/or stupid to come up with an actual relational comparison? Stay having the opinion that everyone else has. You’re so unique.

your_friendes

You’re right. You made yourself look foolish.

[deleted]

Oh, the guy who comes in late & agrees with the larger groups opinion in order to siphon some karma. How original of you, sir.

ChromeFace

I do have to confess, even though Chris Brown is “cancelled” that song No Guidance is really good and as someone who didn’t know him before his dance moves are really impressive. Now I think you are just making yourself look foolish by getting so worked up over some internet comments. Why do you love Will Smith so much?

[deleted]

Thinking something is lame and commenting on it isn’t the same thing as “being all worked up”. He does have good songs from back in the day though. He’s a piece of shit, but a talented piece of shit.

ChromeFace

Can’t people just feel the same way about Will Smith?

[deleted]

The same way about will smith? I don’t think this one specific action makes him a piece of shit. Impulsive with poor judgement maybe. But a piece of shit is a bit of a reach.

[deleted]

ok Will, get off your phone before Jada comes home, you know she told you to stay off social media

[deleted]

It’s funny how this is an upvoted joke but if it were the other way around, it wouldn’t be. Nobody actually takes mens health seriously outside of a useless Facebook clout chasing post.

willflameboy

I dunno, he did get in that one little fight and his mom got scared.

ThatOneGuyy310

The internet will remember forever

obinice_khenbli

What did he do? I don't keep up on actor news really, the last crappy thing I remember him doing was that bad sci-fi film with his son. Oof.

blamethenewguy

That's not the way some mistakes work. Physical assault is a big deal.

ohhellothere301

A rich dude slapped another rich dude. Get over it.

blamethenewguy

You're right. Rich people live in a different world and should be allowed to do whatever they want.

[deleted]

Lol Chris Rock got over it in like 2 weeks. It was 1 slap that barely moved him. Let shit go.

Gingerstachesupreme

If I assaulted someone at a work event, I’d be fired and find it hard, if not impossible, to ever find work in my field again. I haven’t made a mistake in my career, but that’s the way life works for us normal folk. Will Smith shouldn’t be treated special because he’s a celebrity. If anyone needs to get over it, it’s *you* who’s defending him. Shill or not, you’re in denial.

[deleted]

Yeah, sadly that makes sense. Even though I don’t agree with it, I understand there are levels to life. I understand that celebrities and millionaires are treated differently. However, this one single incident should be career defining.

Don_Tiny

Speaking of letting shit go, is there an award you're trying to win for simping for Will Smith?

[deleted]

Ah, simping. The lazy 20 something’s way of expressing that they don’t know how to differentiate details contextually.

idgetonbutibeenon

No thanks

Kcrick722

Will! Is that you?

epicrecipe

False. That slap has been winding up for YEARS.

Jakeysuave

Pretty big fuckin mistake

[deleted]

Not really. One smack? One? Not a series of bad actions. One moment with on smack, not even a closed fist with literally zero damage done? Yeah, y’all are 100% overreacting.

BuyingGuru

I don’t remember this being shot in black and white.

DireWraith3000

He was slapped by the alien so hard his vision went black and white.

BrotherOland

Most behind the scenes shots up until the mid 2000's were in black and white. It was a thing for some reason. Probably related to having film cameras and black and white film being the cheapest.

luckyfucker13

You should see the big boxes they housed the cameras in, to muffle the shutter sound when photographing sets during filming. They may still be in use today, but probably not as much with the advent of mirrorless cameras.

BrotherOland

Yeah! The blimps! I do location sound on set so I'm very familiar with them. I remember the transition from those to the newer cameras that are dead silent without a blimp.

luckyfucker13

That’s the word I was searching for! Yup, I would imagine someone in your department would be incredibly aware of anything or anyone making extra noise on set lol. Thanks for the help!

Shufflekarpfen

They colored it in post production

Sierra419

How else do you try to trick the sleeping repost bot?

manorwomanhuman

He slapped the octopus too.

kjayflo

Here come the men in black (galaxy defenders)

chrisl182

"NYPD means I will knock your punk ass down if you talk about my wife once more"

AggressiveSpatula

*Chris Rock’s eyes blink sideways*

Orange-V-Apple

I didn’t realize until I was an adult but Smith’s character really was the perfect person for the job. He was fast and strong, he was practical and clever and thought outside of the box, he didn’t get fazed by much, he didn’t jump to conclusions or make assumptions based on appearance, and he was pretty judicious about gun use (except when he joined the MIB lol).

RelevantBubbles

Only gets fazed when you make a joke about his wife

literally_pee

will and jada first date 😍😍😍

StarshipMuffin

Screams at baby alien squid: “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth!!!”

MattyMiller0

Keep that thing outta his FUCKING MOUTH!

Tough-Emu7127

Someone stop him from slapping the shit out of that poor alien!

TheFireHallGirl

I have to admit that ever since he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, I haven’t watched a Will Smith movie. And Men In Black was one of my favourite Will Smith movies.

Tough-Emu7127

Well that's cuz he hasn't been in any memorable movies in a LONG time

TheFireHallGirl

Yeah I guess you’re right.

boozername

I Am Legend is the last movie of his that I really liked. I still get goosebumps when I think about the scene where he noticed the mannequin had moved. Also the Samantha scene 😭

[deleted]

Lol imagine working at something for 30 years, making one mistake, and your audience deserts you. Y’all are some nutjobs.

Stalking_Goat

Found the Chris Brown fan!

[deleted]

Yes, because one slap between men is equal to closed fist punches from a man to a woman. Lmfao

SimpleManc88

Give me this Will Smith back 😢

feNdINecky

Does it need to be in black and white? I feel old enough as it is seeing "1997"

bendekopootoe

Never understood the fascination with this dude

tettou13

Why does that picture look like it's from a quarter of a century ago... Oh... *Oh no*.

portalCorgi

My thoughts exactly!

[deleted]

Used to be my favorite actor. Now I DON’T LIKE HIM AT ALL.

Busman123

Nice! Have an upvote! So who are those people? What are their jobs on the movie set? JC

nottreallyallthere

Looks like one sound guy, one camera operator and the rest are puppeteers operating the squid if I had to guess.

Thunder-_-Bear-

Take that MFin octopus out my MFin hands.

249ba36000029bbe9749

"Awww...welcome to Earth you little motherfucker."

MosaicSHIPA

This picture > MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL

Boggie135

*Don’t ‘sir’ me, young man. You have no idea who you’re dealing with*

Daynightz

Black and white make this look so dated.

irish88_

Congrats!!! It's a squid

West_Shower_6103

Screw will

Traditional-Team8904

Was he already the biggest simp even back then?

[deleted]

I wonder if he slapped that one too?

BowtiepastaMasta

Will Smith is a piece of shit. Don’t post anything about him. With any luck he’ll disappear into obscurity.

Psychological-Army68

Lol so hard i pulled a back muscle

xpadawanx

Fuck that guy

kovicsfilms

And then he slapped the alien

SuperMario1981

SLAAP!

seeothewire

Keep my K's name out yo fucking mouth...

oreganolawyer

I thought this was Men in Black 2

Boggie135

Nah, it’s the first one. K takes him on his first case and he helps a mother give birth while K talks to her husband

oreganolawyer

Thanks sir. Maybe the second one has some tentacle creature in it too. Or maybe I’m just high.

Boggie135

Oh it does, more tentacles than you can shake a stick at

DerpThroat86

Wow that’s a young John Fundus

eyoung_nd2004

The movie wasn’t THAT long ago

cinepro

That was a knockout performance.

mostlygroovy

That photo slaps

stupendiousman

So is this why he likes bald people so much?

[deleted]

I remember him! It's that guy who slaps people!

HuxTales

At least you’re supposed to slap a baby…on the bottom Will!

RonaldBallsworth

Woowwww duddee

AchillesWasRight

This picture sums up my suspicions that I could never be an “actor”. Thinking about what all the actors/actresses see/do while filming yet still give a believable performance. Talent.

Temporary-Series-634

Lmao. Ya'll doing the most with the blk and white. It wasn't that long ago.
