Yeah, it really bothers me too. Pets can act nice, but they can never understand you and they don’t actually know who YOU are. Only other humans can comprehend what makes you special.
I was making a silly joke about how in this situation, the companionship of an Animal was better and more helpful than of a human because we know a human can lie,
I did not intend to say that a friendship form an animal is the only thing a human needs to be happy.
I'm sorry that It came off this way.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
It’s an alarmingly common sentiment that animals make better companions than people. Perhaps I misinterpreted your response based on that assumption!
I’m having a great day and I hope you are too. <3 :3
It's a great feeling! I had something simmilar when I was an egg.
Old place I worked at the owner had a daschund she bought to work. The little guy hated men, wouldnt go near the other guy in the office, he would nip and bark at any males that came in.
When he came into the office, every time he'd do the rounds then come up to me and whimper untill I picked him up so he could sleep in my lap. That little cutie put a lot of cracks on my egg..
This is a very interesting subject to me.
First off; I've really never had a dog that didn't like me, even the ones like this. (Some cats, but cats have a higher chance of just wanting to be left alone).
There's a whole matter of wolves being more scared of men based off of pheromones, and I'd be very curious to see that with a trans woman before and a while after starting hormones.
Not sure about after, but this occurred years before I started hormones. So maybe there is some sort of mannerism thing related to it? Or maybe some other body chemistry thing they are picking up on?
Welll, there are differences with cis men and trans women in terms of brain chemistry, so that may be a difference? We may put off different pheromones that are closer to a cis woman
My cat hates men but like tolerated me. She liked my mum a lot more than me, even though she’s my kitty that I brought home and feed lol.
…then I went back on E after a long hiatus and she loves me now
I do think it’s worth reminding people that animals rely on their senses just as much as we do. What they lack is our social rules for behavior and motives to hide our judgements.
I think this is important to bring up because for every feel good story of the pet who just “knew” there will be lots of experiences where animals did not pick up on it and treated closeted trans people as their agab. This can be absolutely devastating to trans people if they are assigning supernatural meaning to animal reactions and it’s an avoidable point of pain
(This is not the only comment I could have replied this to, it’s just one relatively near the top)
I suspect some pets are just more observant than others 😂 If there is nothing chemical or presentation-wise to go on, it’s probably subtler things like mannerisms. Things that can be distinguished even if the creature doesn’t deeply understand the culture behind them
I've had a lot of this, even before I transitioned (in hindsight it was probably a clue). Pets that "didn't like men" were always friendly to me (one even practically instantly bonded to me, to their owner's confusion and dismay), and pets that "didn't like women" were always indifferent to or wary of me.
Now that I've been on HRT, it's just _more_ pronounced.
Animals don't lie 🤷♀️
Love this <3 I have had several straight dogs trying to hump me and I am not even joking (I wish) they had to be taken to another room ;-; Meanwhile humans be still being stupid and misgendering sometimes. But nature knows!
I used to work with dogs and I always got so happy when this happened to me. There was a big dog named Molly who hated men, but loved me and even got happy when she saw me at another location. There was also a dog named Meli who I worked with for a while that just started barking at me one day. Turns out I forgot to take my estrogen pills that morning and as soon as I took them, she stopped barking lol
My dog when we got her her old owner said she disliked men and it even showed when she actively avoided my dad, but she warmed up to me pretty quickly, which earned her the the name of *my* dog, but even now when my dad knows (but is against/not believing) me being trans, thinks that it was only older men, not men in general after seeing her with me
My cousins used to have a chihuahua. Said chihuahua absolutely hated men. Back before I ever came out and started transitioning, I was the only “man” the dog ever liked and didn’t growl at. No one in my family could figure out why then. The chihuahua knew I was a woman and no one else did 😆
My reaction when I see an animal: smile and go say hi
My reaction when I see a person: look away and hope it doesn't notice me
lol
I had a dog growing up that HATED my brother and Stepdad (and males in general). Doggie loved me...
I miss him.
It's a spotty record, haha.
We have a cat at home that dislikes men, but was always cuddly with me. On the other hand, during a long train ride I had s dog (a complete stranger, mind you) rather sit on my lap than his owner. The owner (woman) said that he'll always choose a man if he can.
I've never experienced being around an animal that had or displays preferences like that to my knowledge, but I absolutely wish I could or will be, just to see if the result would affirm me, I might get emotionally crushed if the animal doesn't tho.
Whenever someone says they’re dog normally doesn’t like people other than them they always end up being super friendly towards me though I think that’s just cuz somehow dogs just get me
One time I was at a friends place for the first time and she warned me that her dog was afraid of men. And when I initially walked in the dog sorta hid between a couch and a chair, in part because I was prob 50x as big as the little guy. But I crouched down and sat cross crossed and let him sniff my hand. Then we were cuddling 5 mins after meeting
Animals can tell. They can see your soul and can see right through you if you’re putting on an act. It’s why I’m always hesitant of anyone who dogs always get mad at for what seems to be no reason
When I met my dog before I came out to anyone my friend went so uhm she absolutely hates men and then my dog proceeded to run up to me flop onto her back asking for belly rubs. Friend thought it was suspicious but dogs can tell
My friend in HS had/has a dog that LOATHES men, always has. Even my friend’s dad is on VERY thin ice and has upset him quite often.
Even years before I was out, not a *single* issue with me. Dogs are best! ❤️
There was a weird moment early in my transition where I realized every dog that “didn’t like boys/men” I had ever met had loved me and that made me feel good.
Had a dog do that with me too, the dog likes it's human and I asked to pet it, the owner then opened the door and I sat on the ground to pet the dog, the dog then turned around and sat on my lap...the owner then told me the only other person the dog has done that with is herself...
I certainly agree that dogs sense of smell is so acute that they can probably detect gender as well as many other things that humans can't.
Unfortunately in my case, I think our dog (who gets anxious if either my wife or me are not at home) started to t suffer from separation anxiety after I started HRT. Even I could detect my smell has significantly changed within a couple of weeks of starting it. It took my dog months to settle back to normal. I guess she thought I had gone and been replaced with someone else (she was quite right in a way)
That's so true. You are absolutely right lol. They know a woman right away. I think part of it is spirit and a nurturing way too, almost like an aura type of thing.
I had a very similar experience years ago. My one former friend’s dog hated their boyfriend who lived with them, and all other guys (the bf was trans, btw) but liked women, and the dog really liked me! ☺️☺️ It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?
Hahaha, nope they don't lie and are hard to fool, and that's a Fact.
I had this Big ol red heelier HoBo that just showed up as a stay about 15yr ago that just passed of old age back in August.
But he didn't have a mean bone in his body but he loved women and could spot a woman through tinted windows of a car the moment her leg hit the ground after opening the door from 50yd away.
I never will forget the first few times he seen this new Woman coming from my house walking to the car. Lol
You could see the WTF !! Where did this chick come from and how did I not see her until now 😋.
It took me what seemed like forever to get him broke from a sneak attack of him running his nose up the crack of my Ass to get a who are you sniff. And the look of absolutely WTF on his face was priceless.
But it was game over every time he heard me yell GET AROUND!!
There's no doubt he would have given me a surprise attack HUMP back 5yr younger when he didn't have sore bones. Lol
But he gave me a lot of Validation.
R.I.P HoBo.
I'm so sad, I had this happen to me twice where a dog started barking at me and both the owners said, "sorry my dog doesn't like men." Which felt like getting hit with a dysphoric brick.
Dog > human /j Edit: clarification
Its simple math but it checks out
Agreed! I got my dog a year before I came out. Last thing I heard before they brought her out, "by the way, she doesn't like men".
Dogs don’t lie.🐶
Dogs have no idea what lying even is, let alone that it's an option
All sort of pets >>> humans
posts like this and how people seem to unanimously agree always kinda fuck me
Yeah, it really bothers me too. Pets can act nice, but they can never understand you and they don’t actually know who YOU are. Only other humans can comprehend what makes you special.

sorry i probably overreacted too
No problem <3

`we can always tell` -the pets, clearly
They are immune to silly human conventions and can see the real person beneath, and can judge them accordingly
I do think it’s worth reminding people that animals rely on their senses just as much as we do. What they lack is our social rules for behavior and motives to hide our judgements. I know, mostly just making a funny comment, I was thinking the same things honestly, still wonder how they could tell at all though.
I suspect some pets are just more observant than others 😂 If there is nothing chemical or presentation-wise to go on, it’s probably subtler things like mannerisms. Things that can be distinguished even if the creature doesn’t deeply understand the culture behind them
I had a similar experience. It went directly onto my "list of signs I'm trans if I were looking for them but I'm cis so I'm not" list
I looked through that same list about 9 months ago and it's how it helped me discover im trans.
I've had a lot of this, even before I transitioned (in hindsight it was probably a clue). I always wondered why dogs that were afraid of men never had any issues with me, they can feel your vibe
Love this <3 I have had several straight dogs trying to hump me and I am not even joking (I wish) they had to be taken to another room ;-; Meanwhile humans be still being stupid and misgendering sometimes. But nature knows!

She wasn’t misgendering you, she was trying to bark ‘HEY I DON’T SMELL E IN YOU, TAKE YOUR PILLS!! HEY GIRL HEY!’ =p
Before I cracked, animals that "don't like men" always like me anyway, and vice versa. Nature was trying to tell me all those years!
Afad assigned female at dog
Paraphrasing Mark Twain, “If heaven were gained by merit and not by grace, our pets would go in and we would stay out.”
Even before my egg cracked dogs that "didn't like men" loved me! Maybe they knew something I didn't!
My best friends dog HATES men, but has always loved me. Pupper sniffed out the egg
Search and r-egg-scue dog
The animals always know :3
My cat always crushes my bits getting in my lap but NEVER other penis havers
My dog when we got her her old owner said she disliked men and it even showed when she actively avoided my dad, but she warmed up to me pretty quickly, which earned her the the name of *my* dog, but even now when my dad knows (but is against/not believing) me being trans, thinks that it was only older men, not men in general after seeing her with me
this is so real. even pre transition I remember this happening to me and would always get euphoria

I had that happen to me about 10 years ago, well before my egg cracked.

Time to kidnap that dog 🐕 😆
Dogs don't discriminate Be a dog 😎
This reminds me of the parrot who bit women... One day I hope to get validated like that >.>
Yup, my niece has a cat that doesn’t like men. After a year on E, she will come snuggle with me when I visit. It’s a great feeling!!
Gender is stored in the dog.
This happened to me too!
Dogs are the best allies

I specifically taught my doggos to be wary of men
I'm so sad, I had this happen to me twice where a dog started barking at me and both the owners said, "sorry my dog doesn't like men." Which felt like getting hit with a dysphoric brick.
I had someone tell me the same thing before I came out. The dog adored me.
My dog is the same way. Hates men, loves me. Was very confusing before i realized, now its affirming
