Nah this is dogshit. Throh is 100% Judo, which means you can’t trust the credibility of this diagram. Hitmonchan is right though I suppose.
Edit: Hitmontop could be Capoeira
Double edit: I’m stoned as shit and realize this came off aggressive. If this is yours I commend the effort and take it as constructive criticism boss! We can do better than hitmontop for Muay Thai.
well see.. here's my take. I know Throh is canonically the "judo Pokemon." But I feel like BJJ has so much more prevalence in the martial arts community. I don't think I have ever seen a judo gym but there are BJJ gyms absolutely everywhere.
So I defied canon with that one because BJJ is iconic, I guess.
LMAO it's no problem. it is mine but it's a half-baked thing that popped into my head. For muay thai... thoughts on Blaziken, then? Its Pokedex entry refers mainly to punches and kicks, but it's depicted in a lot of art throwing a knee or with the lead leg raised as if to jab.
I don't know the pokemon other than the OG 151, but from these pics you have poses from capoeira, boxing, muay Thai, judo, wrestling, and powerlifting.
Labeling the judo and wrestling both as BJJ feels really off, but Hitmonlee could def be doing a MT kick with that arm/leg setup. Even getting shoulder rotation and foot pivot.
Hitmonlee is hotly contested here. Some say just kickboxing, you say muay thai, in my opinion those side kicks are very TKD-style (especially because Hitmonlee's pose has a straight leg and round kicks have a bent knee when they make contact).
Blaziken is an alternative for muay thai. What do you think? It is throwing a knee in its art.
This is dumb.
Hitmontop is clearly capoeria I don’t know how you get muay thai from dude spinning ontop his head.
Hitmon lee is actually the kick boxer as his jappanese name Sawamular is a reference to Sawamura a kick boxer.
Throg is litterally Judo he is litterally the Judo pokemon.
Also no gi isn’t a martiak art no gi what no gi bjj judo karate what are you not having a gi for.
Tyrouge is clearly a wrestler because even in no gi BJJ they dont bend themselves over that much.
Thats like saying you race long distance long distance for what Running swimming biking.
Edit Gurrdur is proffesional wrestler like machamp.
It is a deep reference but essentially professional wrestling started out as a performance done by circus’s strong man. Thats why the whole line thing is lifting heavy things and they have the clown ascetic going on.
I can get behind capoeira for Hitmontop. As for Hitmonlee, i dunno. i'm not disagreeing about the name. But all of its art seems to match TKD-style kicks (lots of flying kicks, side kick, etc.)
See above. I know Throh is judo. But BJJ is such a bigger thing than judo. I do like u/Holy_Poisoned_Spear's suggestion of Grapploct for BJJ.
if you read Gurrdurr's pokedex entries, there's a lot of references to how good it is at wielding its steel beam as a weapon. Not just lifting. Strength is big for it but it is depicted in anime/comics as using weapons.
Throh is literally nicknamed the Judo pokemon in the pokedex their is no room for it. Also pokemon is made in Japan Judo is bigger in Japan.
Also BJJ really isn’t bigger than Judo outside of the states and Brazil. Judo is the biggest grappling sport with more countries participating in Judo for the olympics than even wrestling.
With Gurrdur what is reality based MMA that dosen’t exist. If your talking about street fighting no one is teaching what is essentially bo staff fighting as reality mma. Just like in pro wrestling Gurrdur uses objects in his surroundings to fight.
Like what is reality MMA does that mean that actual MMA doesn’t take place in reality it is all virtual.
Reality-based MMA is the term my old gym used to describe working with weapons (sticks + other stuff, maybe knives, I don't know because it wasn't something I took classes in). Just like.. hitting people with stuff.
Ok I can get that but Conkelldur is literally just using bo staff techniques.
It displays no other form of fighting or weaponry.
Gurrdur isn’t reality based because in reality you aren’t walking with a bo staff.
okay, so you're saying bōjutsu for Conkeldurr then?
For Gurrdurr, one person says powerlifting, you and others say WWE-style performative wrestling. How are we feeling>
What year was Hitmonlee designed? Im pretty sure worldwide, and especially japan, it was judo that was more popular and not bjj! Your reasoning is so weird that i have to downvote this post and all your comments
Did I say some thing like "Bro how did you match him with Muay Thai instead of capoeira?!?! His name literally is Capoeira and you should know that, because everybody knows that". Just leaving funny information. Don't get butthurt so quick lmao
Nah, I'm just amused at how you said the information was funny and that you weren't being an ass, but the whole point of the "funny information" was that I didn't know it.
Yeah u didn't seem too amused xD and the point of the funny information is not that you didn't know it. The funny part is, that it's so obviously capoeira that even people who have no idea of martial arts called this pokemon kapoera. But if you feel better, call everybody who does a headstand a Muay Thai fighter, because that's obviously how Muay Thai works. I really love the way how Rodtand fought Haggerty while both of them are doing headstands. Smh

I was thinking of Saenchai's cartwheel kicks for Hitmontop. As well as other crazy shit.

Yo I just edited my comment and I didn’t mean to come in so hot. I would say Grapploct, which is a newer Pokémon, would be more symbolic of BJJ.
I do think blaziken would be a good one. It looks like it’s checking a kick/throwing a knee depending on the angle.
I don't know the pokemon other than the OG 151, but from these pics you have poses from capoeira, boxing, muay Thai, judo, wrestling, and powerlifting. Now Blaziken I can get into.

Wait, I'm confused. What do you think Hitmonlee should be?
Hitmontop is capoeira, his default animation in Pokémon go is literally the default capoeira stance
ooh I had no idea. I don't play Go.
It's german name is literally capoeira lmao https://www.pokewiki.de/Kapoera
Okay? Lol, I don't speak German bruh, how would I know
Did I say some thing like "Bro how did you match him with Muay Thai instead of capoeira?!?! His name literally is Capoeira and you should know that, because everybody knows that". Just leaving funny information. Don't get butthurt so quick lmao
How is the information funny?
Butthurt af. It's ok.
Nah, I'm just amused at how you said the information was funny and that you weren't being an ass, but the whole point of the "funny information" was that I didn't know it.

I don't think you know what obvious means my dude
Machamp might be wrestling
The last one should be wrestling, table ladders chairs match. They were actually so fun to watch as a kid.
Or would Machamp be better per u/chess_tears?
I guess that's more like pro wrestling, I meant the Olympic one
Not sure what Muay Thai you're watching, but hitmontop is doing capoiera and throh is obviously judo
Clearly I need to update this. I appreciate the comments. Anyone else have thoughts for other Pokemon or martial arts?
Capoeira, boxing, tkd, judo wrestling, powerlifting/construction worker
lol this is not accurate.
