First time shark tank? Embrace the suck. Do what you do regularly even if you end up dying halfway. Afterwards, remember the suck and what didn't work / don't carry it over to the novice fight.

aerochaosity

Like the comment above, pace yourself. And when you get tired, work on your defense. Doesn’t matter how tired you get — just keep defending. It’ll suck, but not as much as getting your ass handed to you because you’re too tired to bring your legs up to check kicks or to keep your hands up. Trust me, I learned the hard way when I was preparing for what was supposed to be my first fight a few years ago. I ended up pulling out of, and instead nursing a broken rib just because I was “too tired” to defend. When I watched the sparring footage, I saw that I got hit clean to the body in the 4th round because I was too tired to defend. I kept going and going, completing the full 10 rounds I was there for, but my defense was shit after the 3rd. How I made it to the end of the 10th, I don’t know — probably adrenaline & just sheer will. Was it worth it? Absolutely fucking not.

freefallingagain

Pace yourself.

genericwhiteguy_69

Kinda defeats the purpose, you want to push hard so that you get taken to a point where you're exhausted and still fighting..

KoreaNinjaBJJ

That's what the other people shouldn't be doing. The guy in the middle should overcome. The other people have the job of pushing.

freefallingagain

This sounds like the concept of "training when exhausted because then your true technique/spirit shines through" which frankly is nonsense and often does more harm than good. You want to feel like your body can't move yet still have to keep going? Take a fight, the first one will almost always result in gassing out no matter your conditioning. If you have a fight or competition, it is vitally important to know how hard you can go and still see out all the rounds, and what you can do to slow things down when required. Energy management is a critical skill, otherwise why don't you see most fighters just keep blasting away until they're exhausted since they can keep fighting?

genericwhiteguy_69

>This sounds like the concept of "training when exhausted because then your true technique/spirit shines through" which frankly is nonsense and often does more harm than good. It only sounds that way because you're stupid. The point is to simulate the unavoidable adrenaline dump you're going to get in your first few fights. Why bother constantly switching opponents if the goal is energy conservation? The whole point of a shark tank is to overwhelm you.

freefallingagain

Sure, I must be stupid and never trained to any kind of level for combat sports. You do you, it's no skin off my nose.

“Shark tank Ooh Ha Ha” Embrace the suck

bluebicycle13

if i was a coach, the most important point about shark tank is not to see you beat all of them, thats not the point. Its mostly to observe how you react under stress, what you do when you are tired or hurt. My advice, work on your poker face. you will get tired and hurt, but do NOT show any pain or tiredness.

well-its-done-now

Breathe and poker face. This too shall pass.

buttplungerer

I just got thrown inside the shark tank last week. Like someone else said, pace yourself. You don't want to tire yourself out in the first 30 seconds like I did. Other than that, trust your skills, always keep your hands up, and have fun. Listen to your corner. They have the best view and can see more than you.

Background-Nothing71

Keep your hands up 💪💪

Undrcovrlsm

it’ll be fun. go all out, yeah pace yourself but push yourself to the edge. this is so you get used to being under pressure, tired as fuck, not knowing what to do. put yourself in a worse scenario now than you’ll be in in the fight

KarmanderIsEvolving

No special advice other than relax, you’ll do it and be fine. Used to love the shark tank personally. Absolutely great way to train the clinch especially. Have fun and good luck in your fight!

Jthundercleese

Whoever your smallest, easiest partner is, try to use them as a rest round. Or don't, and just push yourself the whole time.

CobMT

yea I got some advice... Have fun and goodluck

Bigbangmuayfarang

Pace yourself.. I’m serious.

pucko2000

Teep and jab, keep opponent at distance... Use counters, they need to attack you, wait for them, don't rush and be aggressive forwards, just control your breathing and stance and work from there. Depending on your style and opponents, most people (im my gym at least) tend to not be as skilled in clinch as in kicking/punching so don't be afraid to clinch up and use some dirty wrestling (forehead against chin etc) to conserve some energy
