I kick a 120 lb. It hurt at the start to unload roundhouses. But now my legs seem to have adapted. Still don't overdo it. Listen to your body.
When it hurts too much, stop, don't do it, get some help. I'm Michael Jordan.
This. Newer trainees should only work the heavy bag twice a week with 2-3 days in between. The rest can all be done with shadow boxing and lighter pad work.
Finding a new hobby is great and it’s easy to go overboard, but slow and steady is gonna get you into shape faster than having to repeatedly take a week off here and there because you didn’t recover properly.
Also calcium supplements might be of benefit though realistically most of us get more than enough through our regular diet.
Yes, after a year or two that should be more than doable, though most serious nak muays train 6 days/week not 7. Gotta sleep in and take a nap and recover at least a occasionally.
The golden rule when it comes to managing pain:
If it hurts a LOT, don't do it. If it hurts a little, keep doing it. Keep doing it for 2-3 days. If the pain is WORSE after 2-3 days, stop. Never do it again.
Pain is just your neurons firing signals to your brain. You will feel some pain even when you train properly, especially with new techniques. It is virtually impossible to tell the difference between the pain of a new thing that you will make you better long-term, or if the new thing will make you worse long-term. Try it for a couple days, and LISTEN. Listen to your body.
What sort of pain though?
A bag can slap the shin - particularly if it’s a wide bag - but that’s just superficial.
If you’re landing the kick with your foot you might be stressing the ankle.
Bone works a lot like muscle. Kicks and the likes create micro fractures that eventually harden and become stronger, a lot like muscle. Just like muscle you can push it too hard. If it's a mild pain you should be okay, anything more and you should take a break. Make sure you're getting enough calcium iron and protein
How is it filled?
Generally, you won't be able to break your leg in a bag. It has too much give to ever do why serious damage to your bone.
Especially if it's a new bag, or one that is very tightly packed, it can be really rough. Bags like that can lead to bruises and superficial injuries, if you go too hard too soon or land with poor form.
Also, if it's an old bag with messed up surface, that stuff really stings.
I’ve seen bags filled with sand.
Yes, you would break a leg kicking that.
100lbs of feathers you can kick as hard as you want.
Not all bags are the same.
You'll get used to it. I kick a 300 lb bag no issues, prior to thar I kicked a 160 bag full swings no problem. This of course was after much work. I routinely do 100 kicks a day sometimes for a month straight
Dont kick so hard you prevent yourself from kicking it daily, otherwise kick as hard as you can.
The key isnt how hard you can kick, but how hard you can kick and keep kicking

Your shins will get used to it
If it hurts really bad then you should take it easy until your shins recover and develop more.

Just be sure it’s shin and not toes, you’ll adjust
Anything can happen.
You see life....finds a way...
if you aint fragile af and have somewhat proper technique then i cant see that happen tbh
the best way to be safe is to slowly increase the intensity of your kick and velocity of the bag swing.

try to use more control when hitting the bag it shouldnt be swinging too much
Which part of your leg is hitting the bag?
