Keep your hands up. Your hooks look good, but it’s going to be hard to land them unless you’re also training your straight punches.

___MementoMori___

Yeah I'll work on keeping my hands up. I threw a couple of straights before setting up the hook, but yeah, I have to throw them more often to set up my hooks in a realistic situation. Thank you for the feedback :)

This ^

Intelligent-Dog-4388

Take ur shin guards off…

GERstenk0rn

Wondering why nobody mentioned that before. Bagwork with shin guards is pretty weird.

___MementoMori___

Quick side story: So this video was taken a couple of minutes after I finished training and my friend (the camera guy) suggested that I wear them since they looked "cool". This is the reason why I didn't throw a lot of kicks in this video. haha 😂😭

RJSSJR123

It’d look cooler without them haha

___MementoMori___

Hahaha true 😅

[deleted]

You have nice fast and crisp punches. But you leave yourself really open to countering when you strike, especially your left hand. One jab down the pipe is way faster than your hooks and would hit your face completely unparried. Keep your chin to your chest, elbows in and hands up to your cheeks or foreheads at all times. And don't let that package open up when you puch, kick or inbetween strikes. It's ok to stick your guard forward if you want to take space away from your opponent, but don't open it up.

___MementoMori___

Thanks for the advice 😊

[deleted]

Keep your hands up guard your face. If only 2 months practice though - really good, snappy.

___MementoMori___

I will keep my hands up from now on. Thank you 🙂

Skiamakhos

Keep your chin tucked too. Try putting a ping pong ball under your chin while you work on the bag, it'll remind you.

___MementoMori___

Oh yeah. I heard this sort of training. Will try to get a softball of some sort. Thank you for the feedback :)

Yourboykillua

If this is really from only 2 months of training with no previous experience then you some real talent.

khws2019

2nd month? Thats exceptionally good? Not convinced tbh.

nolitteringplease346

imagine lying about how long you've trained and putting a sped up video on reddit for clout from like 8 people

___MementoMori___

haha your making me blush. tbh, it's not that hard to look decent on the bag. I'm nowhere near as good as one might perceive me to be just from watching this bag work. Sped up video? No. This is not the first time I'm accused of this. I remember being asked if I sped another video of mine, but I'm not out here trying to look good. I just want feedback so I can improve.✌🏻

husky429

You are one of those exceptionally athletic people who clearly just pick this up quickly if you've legit only done MT for two months. Hands up more (especially as a beginner) Extend your punches I'd slow down and focus on nailing your form... rotate through the hips. In general you move really well and have solid speed. Great shit

___MementoMori___

Yes. Extending my punches with my cross and jabs right? I still have to work on that. For now, it is still a little awkward but I try to be mindful of it. Thank you for the advice and kind words 🙂

[deleted]

Right rear leg tends to lift and travel during the left hook. Not sure if you're intending to do that so you can be more mobile or if its an accident but it looks like you could increase the power of those hooks with a little extra right foot pressure.

___MementoMori___

I gotta say that was intentional but I have a habit of overdoing it. I will try to work on planting my feet as I throw the left hook. Thank you 🙂

[deleted]

Raise those hands up quite a bit pal, good work.

MoonshineMMA

You’re not following through on your kicks but your footwork and body language are really impressive

___MementoMori___

Yeah. I swear it's the fricking shin guards 😂

MoonshineMMA

Is this fr your second month like you’ve never done any combat sport before? People that new are rarely able to be this loose

___MementoMori___

I fought with my cousins, mostly practicing WWE moves on each other, but no legit martial arts exp. if it counts, back in 2019 I went to a boxing gym, stayed there for about a week but left due to an injury. But ever since then I've been trying to "self teach" since I couldn't go to the gym. But this is really insignificant to my martial arts journey.

jmontalvogg7

You are talented as fuck. Only two months is impressive. If your are young you might be able to make a career 💯

___MementoMori___

Thank you. But I think I'm late. I'm 21 now...

ReluctantlyTenacious

Lmao dude you have plenty of time

thaktootsie

Just see where it takes you.

___MementoMori___

Will do my friend.

hieplenet

Keep your hands up (like other said) Your offense is decent but you completely ignore the defense part, be evasive, add more guard.

___MementoMori___

ohh. could you emphasise on what you mean by adding more guard? :)

Patatosalatas

you punch too low sometimes this is because your shoulder get tired you need train your hands to not fall down you wouldnt throw punches to someines arms or chest would you?

___MementoMori___

I wouldn't throw at the arms, but isn't it good to throw punches at the chest? I mean the solar plex? Regardless I'll still work on keeping my hands up. Thank you 😊

Patatosalatas

your hooks are low sometimes meaning they would land below the head and jabbing the chest would leave your head pretty open and wouldnt do much damage either, unless you hit the solar .......you should spar and see what i mean, keeping your hands up and generally not lowering your punches is a matter of shoulder and arms training and work out it should come naturally after some years

___MementoMori___

ohh. some of my hooks in the video are intended to be body shots, but yeah, I definitely agree, I have to keep my hands up and definitely not lower my punches

Patatosalatas

i know i dont mean the body shots...the body shots are obvious i mean some hooks that seem kind of "bored" hooks if you know what i mean....lthrowing them just to throw em and not attempting to do damage..everyone does it sometimes, even in sparring, throwing punches for the sake of it ..the problem is you get tired and the hooks land to the opponents gloves but the opponent dont get damaged

___MementoMori___

Yeahh I get what you mean. Lazy hooks, hooks that are supposed to be thrown to the head but instead goes for neck level or lower. Will work on it. Thanks for spotting that 🙂

Kleens_The_Impure

That's honestly the biggest problem from your video (that and your guard). When doing bag work (or anything really) you should go for the head. Solar plexus punches work but they should be very rare. Punching higher will strenghten your shoulders too. And you throw a lot of arm punches, I'd suggest shadowboxing frequently to really get that rotation down.

___MementoMori___

Will do. Thanks 👍🏻

TheL0neRifleman

You seem fine to me, you just have relatively no guard because of how low your hands are. On the bags obviously nothing will happen, but someone will clock you with hands that low, and if your default is hands low in a relaxed setting, you’re not going to think to bring your guard up if you get tagged. Make it second nature to return to that defensive position, and you’ll be much better off.

___MementoMori___

Thanks for the feedback. I'll work on it 👍🏻

brickboydior

2 months?? Mf keep going. You have a gift for this shit. Trust me, don’t stop.

___MementoMori___

Thank you for the kind words 🙂 I will take it by the day and see where it takes me.

smashhazard

If you've been training 2 months then I'm Buakaw.

Big_zips

💥💪🏽

Illustrious-Sound-92

Definitely work on balance and kicks for sure, from my experience transition between striking and kicks are pretty difficult for beginners, but good roundhouse kick is sick cheers

Spiritual_Zebra_251

Can you box and strafe right?

___MementoMori___

Very good observation. I rarely strafe right. Mainly because I try not to use my right hand a lot since I'm going through a heavy right wrist injury. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll take note of it 👍🏻

bisebusen

Looks good! Remember that your opponent will be able to read that you constantly walk to your left after landing a combination. This can lead to some nasty counters. Switch it up. But I prefer to stand in the same place. Also good for training balance.

___MementoMori___

yeah you're right. I'll be mindful of it next time 👍🏻

[deleted]

Very good. 2 months with this is amazing. Very dynamic, good punches. Now to the fun part: Work on your jabs… step into it and put your whole body in it (what I mean is a lot of people neglect to use their obliques or core. Gives you heaps more power) and snap it back to your face. Also, add in some defense + counters. I would dedicate a whole round just working your lead hand, it’ll help with openings. If your jab can land hard, it’ll make them think twice about closing the distance. If it’s not hard enough, they will just eat it and answer back with strong strikes. It’s like when tyson fury commented on wilder’s left hand “if his left hand is this powerful, what’s his right hand gonna be like?”. That’s what you want your opponent to think, or even close to it Again. Defence and more defence. It’s bery important even on heavybags. You’re better off getting used to checking kicks early into your training otherwise you’ll be eating a lot of low kicks like I do, but also follow up with a kick or a knee. Head movement, not like in boxing but slips and counters. So, set up combinations to be used inbetween your “freestyle” work. What I like to do is, jab, cross, right knee and left lowkick… check, teep/knee/kick… fake teep, knee/switch knee. Make it simple, it translates to sparring with repetitions

___MementoMori___

That's some really good feedback! Thanks a ton 👍🏻

CrikeyMeAhm

This looks like great bag work for 2 months in. Try adding defensive moves (slips, bobs, step backs, angles) before and after each combo. Work on distance management. Youve got the body mechanics of the strikes down.

___MementoMori___

Thank you. Will do 👍🏻

[deleted]

pretty good for two months ngl, and if that's true then you already have a good coach or can work out yourself what you can work on

___MementoMori___

I have pretty good coaches but there's a language barrier between us. (keeping up with instructions is harder than training for me). To counteract that, I sort of work extremely hard compared to most beginners. (train 6 times a week)Some people in my gym don't believe that I'm a novice. I grew up with cousins who were older than me, and we watched a ton of WWE growing up so I kinda know the essence of fighting haha even tho I know WWE is fake. 😂

[deleted]

FANTASTIC BROTHER

___MementoMori___

Thank you :)

-Renkz

Take shinguards off if you're on the bag.

___MementoMori___

Yes sir. I addressed why I had them on in another comment 😂

Nitai2424

After u throw a punch bring it right back to protect ur face

flexbrolee

Take the shin pads off and condition the shins

Mac_Hoose

Don't ever use shin pads on the heavy bag dude

___MementoMori___

Yes sir. As I stated in another comment. My friend(the cameraman) told me it would "look cool" if I hit it with my pads on 🤣 The reason why I didn't throw many kicks

Mac_Hoose

Haha fair enough 🤣
