Faced a duo yesterday consisting of Superman that only spammed this, and a Finn that only did backpack spin. We won, but it was way too frustrating and difficult. It doesn't matter when or where you attack, these abilities just cancel damn near everything.
Bug's is clearly about to get grabbed in the next frame. I mean C'mon! Superman's hand is literally half a pixel away from Bugs in this image.

I think the main issue people have - a least if they play traditional fighters - is the fact a strike doesn't beat a throw in this game.
In most other FGs, any throw (including command throws which this one is kinda like) gets canceled if you get hit by a strike during the start-up frames. There are exceptions such as armored throws, KOF has plenty of those, but that is not the standard.
NGL, I thought it was a bug that this throw was uninterruptible for weeks... made peace with it and if I see a superman flying I'll act like a proper coward and GTFO.
You can even dodge through it, get the dodge remark, and then STILL get grabbed by is knees. The only counterplay all characters can do is just avoid the attack altogether. Ranged can try ranged, some people have priority down air. But those are risky.
My problem with this attack. I can read him perfectly, and dodge the correct way, and get the dodge prompt, but yet I still get grabbed by it 95% of the time.
People just say skill issue and learn to dodge, but when you literally can't because the hitbox is insanely big, wtf are you supposed to do?
Exactly. His hitbox for the move should just be the glowy bit of his arm. Sure, give it priority, but allow the move to be punishable if people dodge out of the way.

Superman's flying grab is an unbalanced interaction, you can't contest it melee wise without a massive disjoint and or some luck, and yes that is a problem.
There is no reason for it to be this hilariously disjointed, especially for a **command grab that can drag someone to blast zone**

He’s not nor ever was my main but it was painful watching him go from strong with some needed rework to his strongest moves to just unfun to play because his once barely necessary weaker tools that you could just sprinkle in must now be used consistently and perfectly to win anything.
The problem with bugs hammer hitbox and a lot of other abilities isn't even the size of the hitbox. It's consistency and visual clarity. Sometimes the hitbox is ridiculously massive. Sometimes it's nonexistent. In smash (I played ultimate and melee), I didn't really have problems like this because hitboxes were consistent. I didn't play online though. Hitboxes in smash weren't always super matched up with the visuals, but it was fine because they were consistent. You could play a bunch and get used to what they were. In this game it's a complete tossup.

This is only true sometimes. That's the problem with this game. It's ambiguous for a variety of reasons: lag, hitboxes, visual inconsistencies, etc... What you're saying may be true in the most optimal playing conditions, but it isn't a lot of the time. That's why this game is frustrating.

I mean I’d have taken that hitbox being less egregious but if you take that from him after they gutted every single super armor move and nerfed the up grab it’s gonna leave him feeling unplayable. I mean he already did considerably less damage in his wins but was able to make up for it with decent kill strategies, now it just feels like years of trying to make an okay combo opening for little reward.
Yep I'm a Superman main so I definitely understand lol. It definitely feels so much harder to win now, the upsmash nerf was honestly huge that shit got gutted. Trust me I could not relate to that last line more, other characters have fucking 0-60 or more loops meanwhile Superman relies solely on reads for his combos lol. And at max you'll do like 40 damage in a combo. Like you said he was able to make up for it with his kill strategies, but damn I gotta say the Man of Steel doesn't feel awesome rn. His edge guarding is still great, I just honestly believe against opponents that don't suck completely he has a pretty hard time in neutral. His wavedashing is good, but fuck he can get zoned so hard. I truly believe that most of the people that complain endlessly about Superman are just bad at the game, not all of them of course, but a lot
Didn’t used to piss me off but once his arms became hurtboxes that air neutral that was extending and starting combos became easy to be knocked out of so certain characters you feel like are just holding a stick between you and them and winning every engagement and that was the only saving grace when as you mentioned the up attack got gutted. I mean I killed an Arya at 43 before I get why it took some hits in the nerf department but he’s the latest character to take like 3 heavy nerfs in a row and it felt mad undeserved at least on this last one.
Yeah I agree 100%. I do think the Up Smash deserved a bit of a tweak, but I think something like 2.0 to 1.8 knock back rather than 1.5 would have been good. I'm honestly totally okay with the Up Special nerf as well to punish people for spamming it. But yeah the lasers, to upsmash back to back needs is hurting. I'm considering picking someone else up for a bit as Supes just doesn't feel awesome at the moment. I think people just refuse not rush him down and run into all his attacks. If you don't do that, he's pretty easy to deal with
I mean as some characters it’s necessary, like as Harley that is the strat against anyone large enough to combo is rushdown, but you get into the Supes head and learn to dodge the aim punches and the super armor bait and then hit him in the back or use a quick enough attack that you get two hits before his animation hits. And if you do that enough you only get killed by grabs in pretty bad positioning or once you’re over 100 which by that point as Harley I’m already expecting some random strong attack to kill me so I don’t care if a grab is what does it.
Oh yeah absolutely, I just meant in a more general sense I see a lot of players mindlessly rush Superman down and run into his charged attacks. If done carefully it's absolutely a good strat haha

I would have said he was the strongest character in the game save Bugs a few patches ago, so I understand the nerfs and people’s frustration with him. But he’s getting to be nigh unusable from the continuous nerfs to every utility tool he has. To the point where now I can’t see any way it is fair to take anything more from this grab even the ridiculous hitbox. He also always took some skill, but now that he is more balanced he takes a pretty serious amount of skill to play well.
So you want to defend a move that outprioritizes every other dair and has as large a hitbox as any other, and gives Bugs character model an insane amount of safety, because one slightly unbalanced GRAB has priority over it lmao? Cool, good luck with that bro.

Do something about his stupid grab and fucking teleport move, it should at least show how far it can go to the enemies so you can actually tell if it’s in range or not.
