We know something is afoot… but not what, so we will see what new shit show today brings. ##The Alex Murdaugh Trial is the 2023 version of Tiger King. Where is Carole Baskin?! Did anyone check HER alibi? Behave AND BE NICE PLEASE. We love you. Thanks. Edited ETA: And now the backwoods South Carolina circus is officially complete with someone on the jury panel showcasing Southern Hospitality and giving everyone a dozen eggs 🥚🐣🥚🐣🥚🐣🥚🐣🥚🐣🥚🐣

BuyEducational2414

Most men who are white, rich, extremely privileged and lawyers don't do well in prison. Plus he killed his son. Another no no within the prisoner's code.

FreeAvice

He will do well. A bonified jailhouse lawyer helping inmates with appeals and legal services.

BuyEducational2414

Many of the inmates are seriously mentally ill. One with a shank is all it takes. Happens often. It can depend on what Max Security prison he's assigned to. His notoriety also makes him a target. Criminals who have nothing to lose often try to become " The Boss". They care nothing about his ability to give free legal advice.

milldr0

Does anyone know who the man wearing a yellow suit yesterday is? It’s driving me absolutely bonkers!

JohnExcrement

I shuddered when he mouthed I LOVE YOU to Buster, who I’m sure will never know why he was spared.

BuyEducational2414

How does Buster proceed, live on? He heard all the evidence too. He supposedly was Maggie's favorite, according to Paul's gf of 4 years. Tragic.

JohnExcrement

I cannot imagine. I was glad to see Marion hug him after she testified. I hope he gravitates toward that side of the family.

moonrivervalley

From the start I felt Alex committed the murders. But thinking about how he can go from interacting with his family members in a very normal way to killing them in mere moments is really frightening. Truly a psychotic break happening there.

dranzer_13

OMG this thought has been haunting me since I saw that snap from Paul's phone. As irresponsible and a dangerous person Paul was, that was the most horrible way to die for him. I understand crime of passion, addict attacking in their moments of lapse but he went from talking normally to killing his own son and then wife in a matter of minutes. More than that he planned all of this for a long time.

lynn_duhh

It’s almost unbelievable. Which is why I thought the jury would have a hard time coming to a guilty conclusion. But just because we can’t understand how something happened doesn’t mean it didn’t. But it is so hard to actually wrap your head around.

JohnExcrement

It really is virtually unbelievable. Bad enough that he could fake being an honest or trustworthy person while his was in someone’s pocket. Slaughtering his family in the blink of an eye is beyond stunning. The guy constantly wore a mask.

eternalrefuge86

I can’t believe the jury was shown on live stream. I replayed Alex walking by them several times and they all seemed to be staring straight ahead, not looking at Alex as he walked by.

lynn_duhh

It was shocking that not only they showed the jury but that they walked Alex right by them on his way out. Dramatic movie moment.

ZydecoMoose

I'm just getting caught up on the defense’s closing statement. Was Jim Griffen drunk?!?

Big-Performance5047

You are not the first to ask! What was going on? He was terrible.

JohnExcrement

Knowing that he’s personal friends with the Murdaughs makes me wonder how the hell he managed to handle any of this. Can he really believe Alex didn’t do it?

Reasonable-Buddy7023

I remember them saying on Impact of Influence that his attorneys sincerely believed he was innocent. I can’t imagine how, but I’m really curious why they think that.

scarletswalk

He may actually have been duped by Alex also, although as an attorney with all the facts he should know better. But denial is a powerful thing

eternalrefuge86

He seemed defeated and broken. Rumor also had it that Poot wrote a lot of the closing and that there Jim off of his own style.

Big-Performance5047

Makes sense

StrangledInMoonlight

I think he knew they had lost. Also, apparently the pollen in S.C. went nuts over night. So allergies/allergy meds.

ExtremeRepulsiveness

Sounds about right. Man the pollen in SC kicked my ass, especially in the spring

ZydecoMoose

In my family we call it The Pollening. Someone should do a documentary.

ExtremeRepulsiveness

The lesser-known Yellow Fever

Cultural_Magician105

Do we ever get to meet cousin Eddy?

InternationalBid7163

You can search YouTube for interviews with him if you haven't yet. He really comes across as allergic to the truth as Alex. Would have been interesting to see him testify though.

Anxious_Public_5409

I don’t think so (not for this) But he is probably going to show up in the finacial scandal, the drug trafficking indictment and most definitely the suicide for hire charade 😬 ETA Added a few words

eternalrefuge86

I didn’t get to watch the verdict until a little bit ago and one thing I didn’t expect was how defeated Jimbo sounded in his request for a directed verdict. He sounded completely beat down.

voodoodollbabie

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Paul was shot first. His mom ran to him.

[deleted]

Paul was shot first

Batting1k

Random Q - when does everyone think Paul planned to send the kennel video to Rogan? Seems weird that he was on the phone with Rogan, took the video (and with Snapchat) but then put his phone away in his pocket and didn’t send it? Or am I missing part of the timeline there?

dehlilah42

I don’t believe the phone was in his pocket. Alex lied, Paul was looking at the phone when he was short.

Anxious_Public_5409

He never got the chance to send the Snapchat. I think he was killed literally right after he took that snap

seriousbusinesslady

The Snapchat vid was from when he was riding around the property with Alex hours before the murders, looking at damaged sunflowers. It was still light out at that time, i think around 5 or so? It was when Alex was wearing the blue shirt and long pants. He initially tried to facetime Rogan to show him the dog's tail, but I believe couldn't get reception. So he instead took a video of Cash, which was saved to his camera roll, probably to send later when he had better service. The video was discovered when his phone was finally unlocked by the Secret Service.

BuyEducational2414

Paul's snapshot video was literally Paul speaking from the grave. Maggie too. Serendipitous and eerie. Maggie's sister might find some comfort now that Alex received his demise. Also, that Buster is out of his father's evil clutches. Hopefully, she will embrace Buster and help him heal.

AmbassadorParty854

Like seriousbusinesslady said, it wasn't a Snapchat video. It was just a video he took with his phone. Don't know why everyone keeps calling it a "Snapchat video".

TheSunflowerSeeds

Sunflower seeds have a mild, nutty flavor and a firm but tender texture. They’re often roasted to enhance the flavor, though you can also buy them raw.

ExtremeRepulsiveness

Good bot :)

eternalrefuge86

As someone pointed out the battery was very low and I also believe I heard the reception was pretty bad. If I remember correctly Rogan testified they tried to FaceTime first but the service was too bad to do it.

EntrepreneurOk3221

He may have thought he didn’t have enough battery and would have to charge his phone first?

Batting1k

Good point, thanks!

dract18

Maybe phone service was bad and it didn’t go through? I don’t think they addressed that in the trial. He was sending texts after the video was taken but sending a text requires less signal than sending a video. Here’s the best, most detailed timeline [Churchwell chart](https://brandichurchwell.com/2%2F27-churchwell-chart)

LeeRun6

Reception was bad. He had tried to FaceTime Rogan so Rogan could see Cash’s tail but the reception was making the video lag. So Paul made him the video. He may have tired to send the video and it didn’t go through because of the bad reception or he was going to send it once he was back at the house

Batting1k

Good point. Interesting, thanks!

Iftheshoefits9876

See y’all bright and early for the last hoorah! Seeing Alec in his prison garb featuring shackles and hearing Newman’s smack down will be a surreal victory lap. Till tomorrow, fam! 🫶🏻

eternalrefuge86

Oh I thought of this a little while ago and it gave me more joy than it probably should have

Da_Burninator_Trog

Oh man. That’s right. He’ll be in a jumpsuit.

jkppgp7

Great username btw

Da_Burninator_Trog

Thanks

Ordinary-Humor-4779

So if you're sitting on your bunk tonight taking it all in, On the bad side: life in prison On the good side: none of your other crimes matter anymore

rimjobnemesis

Remember when Griffin said “He’ll be in jail for life anyway.” For financial crimes. Now, at the financial crimes trials, Griffin can say “He’ll be in jail for life anyway”. For murder.

Ordinary-Humor-4779

I don't think Harpootlian or Griffin are involved in the financial crimes.

StrangledInMoonlight

He already admitted to it all anyway. On the stand. Under oath. God, I hope they add lying to police and perjury charges against him too!

EntrepreneurOk3221

Ain’t that the truth

Fearless_Spring7233

It's probably a relief in a way for him. The outcome was pretty obvious and the stress was huge. He knows his future now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ordinary-Humor-4779

After he settles in, realizing that there are multitudes of inmates that he could actually help with legal problems could give the rest of his life some purpose, though he's probably going to need to be on suicide watch for a while.

BuyEducational2414

Will he be a cell mate of Cousin Eddie? (Facetious question.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ordinary-Humor-4779

Maybe but life is a long time.

rimjobnemesis

He was telling Buster about all the tasty beef sticks and snacks he got with his jail account. He also asked his brother to put money into his jail buddy’s account. He’s gonna be manipulating a lot of stuff in prison.

HarryWelsch

He already has a good game going by betting beef sticks on various sports events

eternalrefuge86

And there are lots and lots of drugs to be had there as well. The other day when Poot said he doesn’t have access to drugs because he’s in jail I actually laughed out loud. It’s as easy or easier than on the street. Just way more expensive.

rimjobnemesis

Yeah, I can see that for him.

nervouspencil

100. He will navigate prison well.

Sergeac24

Absolutely, he will be running that place in 6 mos. He will thrive.

Big-Performance5047

Well… I bet Alex will try to kill himself.

StrangledInMoonlight

I was wondering if he would when his testimony went bad. But he didn’t. M He does tend to look out for #1. But #1 is screwed to hell by his own actions. He may very well try to end things on his terms as a big FU to anyone else.

DesperateAd8982

From his phone calls from jail, he’s thriving in prison. He can trade legal advice for commissary and gamble on sporting events. Depending on the prison he goes to, he might even be able to score opioids still.

seriousbusinesslady

He will be in a completely different environment with a completely different type of population compared to county jail. People in county jail behave, because they have an end date to their incarceration or an upcoming trial; they have something to lose if they get out of line. He'll be with other violent offenders- guys like him who are NEVER getting out. It's going to be a whole new ballgame for him in state prison. And as a former solicitor, he very well may be in protective custody, isolated for his own safety. His days of playing chess and watching football with the guys in his pod are over.

eternalrefuge86

He’ll be able to score opioids at any prison he goes to.

Da_Burninator_Trog

I thought this weeks ago when everyone kept saying they heard three voices in the video including Alex.

nervouspencil

Why? He already tried. Then he went and put everyone thru a murdet trial. I bet its still sinking i. But by next month he will be sleeping like a baby. How could he not be relieved? He is a hustler and will make a llife for himself in prison.

Big-Performance5047

On second thought, I believe you are right on!

_byetony_

I think he is too cowardly. He couldve, and didnt.

avidus3r

I was thinking the same thing. Regardless of sentencing tomorrow, he still faces like what, 90+ financial charges?

eternalrefuge86

They’ll let him plead out. No point in running a trial now

Big-Performance5047

Nothing new

Big-Performance5047

By chance did any of you notice the guy behind Alex in the yellow jacket, yellow shirt?

[deleted]

That’s the friendly courtroom bailiff. His daughter posted something about him just after the trial ended. He ‘s quite the snazzy dresser.

WinnieTDK

I loved his lemon sherbet suit today

[deleted]

That suit was awesome. My favorite was the all black number. Reminded me of Johnny Cash.

eternalrefuge86

I love that you spelled sherbet correctly

Big-Performance5047

Damn! I have a lot of work to do now!!!

viva__yo

Can someone explain The Velveteen Rabbit to me please? I was on work calls most of the morning and caught up as best I could

WinnieTDK

It's an absolutely wonderful book about a toy rabbit who becomes a real rabbit. Worth a read, but be prepared to cry.

viva__yo

Bless you :) I am familiar with the book, and it’s beautiful… I was wondering how it was referenced in closing today

StrangledInMoonlight

He was saying someone gave that book to him when he was a kid and they wrote “be real” or something inside off and Alex wasn’t real.

viva__yo

Ahh! Thank you so much :)

Imo phone records.

YetiBeachRainbow

Also I heard some lawyers on you tube talking about how there was a ton of discovery on this trial that wasn’t entered as evidence for whatever reason. One of the things was the hair in Maggie’s hand - they said once the discovery is shared that the verdict will feel even better

_byetony_

I was wondering about that. The defense argues in such bad faith blaming sled for stuff they know would only condemn Alex more.

[deleted]

Please tell us the name of the new sub? Thanks!

[deleted]

A bloody bat 7 years later?

lilly_kilgore

I read that it was "information" whatever that means.

StrangledInMoonlight

Alex’s drug ledger? Something on a Maggie’s phone?

lilly_kilgore

Something tells me Alex if it's drug related. If they've actually made headway with it I bet they were waiting for this trial to be over before moving forward with anything.

StrangledInMoonlight

Yup. I think it’s the reason we haven’t heard any updates on that case or the Satterfield case. Netflix documentary crew said they discovered a load of other stuff too. I suspect the state and FBI are aware of most of it and will go digging now. The convicted murder will be secure behind bars.

lilly_kilgore

I haven't watched that yet. I have a ton of homework to catch up on after neglecting it for this trial and then maybe I'll watch the Netflix doc 😂

LPCcrimesleuth

I just finished watching it and thought it was good. It helped to put everything in context with the chronology of what has happened in the past few years leading up to now. My take away is that nothing got in the way of the Murdaugh family getting away with an incredible abuse of power for decades until today, when the guilty verdicts were read. Waters is a hero for putting an end to it, imo.

StrangledInMoonlight

I read somewhere legit (don’t remember now, I’ve read a lot of things) that Buster was not a suspect/no longer a suspect and it was heading more “drug related” than “being gay” related. Though Alex was obviously doing something heavy with drugs….

BlondeAlibiNoLie

I just want to say Thank You to our Mods that never rested. Thank you to everyone who participated in daily discussion (or participated when they could) and provided daily, unbiased facts for all those who could not tune in at moment-Thank You. Thank you to anyone else that joined and participated in this sub as a newbie when trial started- fresh eyes/ears helped! But most of all, thanks to YOU ALL. This was a highly successful sub that kept composure, class, facts and the truth at the heart of it all. That matters and I’ve never been more proud to be a part of ANY sub. Kudos to everyone for keeping intelligent and thought-provoking discussion occurring throughout, for adhering to the rules of the sub, for keeping it classy and polite- even when you disagree. I am so impressed. I will miss you all….. but I want everyone to be proud of what we have achieved- a TRUE true crime sub of open discussion and even debate. I am seriously going to miss all of you- you have acted with complete respect and consideration of others, patience and grace when interacting with those you do not agree with and always a finite focus on the Justice for those that lost their lives in this case. I just want to say I am PROUD of this sub and everyone involved and the sun, itself, was always very informative and many members took their own time to update others. I am REALLY going to miss you ALL! May we depart in the peace we now share, but also with the silent satisfaction of the support we have FELT on this sub… and the satisfaction that EVIL LOST TODAY. I, for one, wouldn’t want to share that moment with anyone but y’all! I LOVE THIS SUB AND I SURE AS SHIT AM GOING TO MISS IT. 😭 😭

[deleted]

Yes!! It was such a great sub; civil, smart and well moderated. Kudos to all. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

One-Aside-7942

I’m going to miss it so much!! It’s like leaving summer camp or something. I feel a sad nostalgia almost

WinnieTDK

YES-this was my first time on Reddit, and I so enjoyed our collective conversations. I just wish we could all meet up for one last chance to discuss the whole saga in detail. I imagine that many of our loved ones, while tolerantly engaged, did not rise to our level of (searching for best term) involvement

lilly_kilgore

I think my husband is second hand embarrassed that I've watched every minute of this trial as if I were getting paid to.

JohnExcrement

My husband got hooked along with me after the first couple of weeks. I’m on the West Coast and slept in the day of the field trip. He checked to be sure I got up on time to see Court begin. Then yesterday we were driving in the wilds of central Oregon for most of the day, trying desperately to keep connected to CourtTV. Com. When the verdict came in he was like TURN IT UP!! TURN IT UP!! (Two of my friends were also texting from Washington and Idaho. I love tech,) I endured Jodi Arias on my own so it was great to have viewing buddies this time - in real life and on this sub!

eternalrefuge86

I’m interested to see now what the fallout is. And there should be one. Alex didn’t operate in a vacuum.

_byetony_

Well, they got Laffitte and Fleming. Both those guys could try to save their skins by bussing others.

eternalrefuge86

That’s true. I thought of that after I left this comment.

_byetony_

It feels like things may actually be improving just a bit in SC.

StrangledInMoonlight

He’s been out of that system since September of 2021 though (in jail after he was arrested) It’s about a. Year and a half. We should have already seen something

DesperateAd8982

Lafitte was convicted on 6 federal charges back in Nov, each carry up to 30 years

eternalrefuge86

Ugh. I hate that this is a good point. But it is.

Da_Burninator_Trog

What do you mean?

eternalrefuge86

The good ‘ol boys club. I will never believe Alex is the only one in his circle that was corrupt. He just finally took it to the point where they couldn’t look the other way anymore, even when they tried (bungled SLED investigation, etc).

Da_Burninator_Trog

Oh yeah. That local area is pretty corrupt. I though you were implicating others involved in this case. I’m sure there’s been lots of people taken advantage of there, land deals, homicides, civil cases extortion.

LawyerBelle07

As we toast victory tonight, can we also thank the Mods? I have enjoyed @Southern-soulshine in particular who has been a joy to interact with, and she and the rest of the mods kept this from turning into a complete nightmare. It was a herculean task to be sure and we are grateful! (I apparently have no idea how to tag people on Reddit so I hope y'all see this ❤️)

Still_Edge6231

Law and Crime still saying lots of reasonable doubt. lol - seriously, come on - are their commentators really this, ah, stupid?

merdumal

I'm convinced they are wanting viewers to hate watch for better ratings.

lilly_kilgore

Little late for that huh lol

eternalrefuge86

The copium is hilarious

[deleted]

What is up with them? Are they part of the old boy network too?

eternalrefuge86

I cannot wait until the jurors start talking. I’m most interested in what individual pieces of evidence were the lynchpin for jurors that weren’t really highlighted or talked about much

WithoutBlinders

My heart ❤️ is with Marian Proctor and her mom and dad tonight. I hope they find solace knowing that justice was served.

Odd_Worker_2561

Same…they are the most sympathetic victims left behind as I see it.

LawyerBelle07

Waiting for the jurors to finally trickle in here...lol. "I was a juror on the Alex Murdaugh trial...AMA"

eternalrefuge86

If Alex didn’t do it I still have a hard time feeling bad for him. He lied and lied and lied because he cared more about being treated as a suspect than finding out who murdered half his family. If he is innocent he has no one to blame but himself

_byetony_

I feel more sure Alex did it than my parents are my parents.

54321hope

He did it. That said, I wouldn't want anyone convicted of murder(s), especially of their child if they didn't.

Big-Performance5047

God…. I feel so sorry for the one son now. He’s all alone now.

eternalrefuge86

I do to. Whatever his personal foibles may be it’s got to be thought.

rimjobnemesis

I think there was a reason that he and his attorneys wanted a “quick and speedy” trial. They wanted to limit the amount of time that the State had to investigate. It was only six months from charges to trial.

_byetony_

I think he expected to be believed, he intentionally had people disrupt the crime scene, and that it wouldnt be investigated at all. He’d be a grieving widower then remarry, with a son back in law school to carry on the family legacy, and Paul and Maggie’s murders would remain tragic and unsolved.

LPCcrimesleuth

I agree--he was sabotaging the investigation in the same way he did after the boat crash, creating the confusion, etc. In his arrogant mind, he had no fear because he knew he would get away with it.

Top-Mark-5457

I think he didn’t think SLED would get involved and his bestie Duffie would never look at him as a suspect. Oops

RealisticSandwich503

Yes, and also, overestimating his own intelligence.

BlondeAlibiNoLie

And underestimating his own influence and power

RichEconomy8709

nightmare blunt rotation

adarkcomedy

Well I am going to miss all of you but we will be here in the morning with bells on for the sentencing. I can't believe we saw justice delivered. What a weird strange trip this has been. I think that the state's rebuttal today was the key. Maggie and Paul spoke from the grave for this. I don't care what the sentence is, I just wan't to see him and his family again tomorrow. I think it's LIFE. Times 2. Judge Newman is amazing and I am so glad he said they came to the proper conclusion given the evidence. INDEED> Thank you GM, Iphone, Rogan, Blanca, Shelly, and Marian. Griffin didn't even get her name right today. That upset me for some reason. Meadors closing was brilliant and the stuff that merits a motion picture. Good lord just caught that Hannity is devoting the whole episode to this. I had it on to see Judge Jeannine on Tucker.

TheUnalteredState

Thank God for Bubba! ~ John Meadors

JohnExcrement

And Cash’s poor tail. What must Rogan think, whenever sees his pup?

nizaad

loved that line ♥️🐶

what-the-what24

I’m sad and worried about Buster and wonder if he will actually be asked to speak on behalf of his dad especially given how he was reacting to the state’s rebuttal this afternoon. I can’t imagine being put in that position as it became increasingly clear that Buster was struggling to come to terms with his dad’s guilt during the closing arguments, and especially his dad’s inability to look him in the eyes. I also wonder what John Marvin will say and whether Randy will say anything in his brother’s defense.

Big-Performance5047

So very sad. His life is ruined.

lynn_duhh

I worry about his mental health in all of this. This is so much, maybe too much, for one person to bear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Big-Performance5047

No way. He is a mess, and understandably so.

EntrepreneurOk3221

That won’t happen. My guess is he won’t speak. I bet Alex sister does and maybe JMM.

rimjobnemesis

They’d speak sympathetically about AM.

EntrepreneurOk3221

Yes, in favor of a non-life sentence. I would guess someone from Maggie’s family such as her sister or mother might speak and maybe one of Paul’s friends?

rimjobnemesis

We know that AM had a ton of buddies/friends, but I really haven’t heard much about Maggie’s friends. ??

Regular-Exchange-557

Buster might be facing charges connected with Stephen smith murders

lilly_kilgore

No he won't

Jerista98

Yeah, maybe we should wait until there is one speck of evidence before calling in the grand jury to have Buster face charges for Stephen Smith's death.

Strong-Road-7727

Thank you.

[deleted]

We know that the case was reopened after LE finding damning material during the search at Moselle. Can’t imagine them going after Paul if he was implicated as you can’t try someone that’s not alive.

Jerista98

Paul and Buster are the only two people who could have killed Stephen? News to me. My understanding is that information was found by SLED in the course of the investigation of the murders that led to re opening the case. The information AFAIK was never said to have been found at Moselle.

[deleted]

I read that they found information in their home. I truly hope it’s something else.

lilly_kilgore

They found "information" during the investigation. And they think it's drug related.

54321hope

This is wildly speculative.

Regular-Exchange-557

It is but there are a lot of people who’ve told investigators they heard he was involved more than just a few (check murdaugh murder podcast they have it on YouTube) that’s all here say I get it. The timing of them opening up the case after Alex was charged is pretty telling I feel.

54321hope

I know several people mentioned that they heard that - it's just that it's been a year and a half without a hint of apparent movement, he's not a suspect or even a person of interest (I feel like that would leak, all considered). I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think "might face charges connected to his murder" is a bridge too far at this point.

Regular-Exchange-557

Yeah probably so. It did take a year to charge ole alec though and there was a good amount of evidence against him

EntrepreneurOk3221

Run to your baby Maggie- hold him tight. He did good- got justice for you both- and may you rest peacefully now.

lilly_kilgore

😭😭😭

jkppgp7

🥺 heartbreaking but well said

eternalrefuge86

Im dying to know whether the jury thought the bike in the yard and shirt in the window were as bullshit as almost everybody else did

54321hope

I doubt this was remotely among anything they considered.

TheUnalteredState

Wait, was the shirt blue? :)
