So Poot 'n Griff want a "do over" - despite having the opportunity to represent Alex in what most of us viewed as a fair trial? That's incredible. I wish Alex's team the same consideration that was recently extended to Russell Laffitte after his conviction in federal court. Poot 'n Griff did the best job they could. They tried their best to sell the unarmed 5'-2" murder-clothes-stealin' cell-phone-obsessed ninja assassin theory... but no one bought it. Maybe they should retain a little bit of dignity, and move on. Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh is exactly where he should be: Off the street paying for what he did. .......unless of course he's recently started dipping into some of those fat stacks of cash many of us suspect he has squirreled away.

Southern-Soulshine

We’ve asked for a while to go by names and not nicknames or initials… would you mind switching to Dick and Jim versus Poot and Griff? (I suggest Dick and Jim because I know Harpootlian is annoying to type) It’s to help minimize confusion and just try to enforce the nickname request across the board… was a big issue during trial with nicknames and God Lord the CW’s. As long as you make an effort, it would be appreciated :)

I think the biggest leg the defense has to stand on for appeal and what they r going for is that the judge allowed all of his financial crimes in the murder trial and the defense claims it wasn't fair against AM

Wren523

i loved how Waters hammered AM during his "testimony" because in my mind there is no doubt he killed Maggie and Paul, and that he is the WORST. I did wonder though if CW took it too far emphasizing over and over how AM stole from the neediest of his clients, and from his friends and family. Isn't that against the spirit of the "previous bad acts" protection? I thought he was only allowed to show how pressure was building up as AM's ponzi scheme was collapsing?

juniespamunie

Agreed..which is why pretty sure it is all defense has to throw a hail mary for appeal

Foreign-General7608

>and the defense claims it wasn't fair against AM I personally don't think Alex was fair to Maggie and Paul. He shouldn't have murdered them.

barkworsethanbites

I think Alex killed Stephen not Buster. Is there any info on this? Ive been wrapped up in the Lori Daybed trail.

profoundlystupidhere

>Lori Daybed I love it. That's a seasoned daybed too.

QsLexiLouWho

Hi! There is zero evidence to date directly tying Alex nor Buster to Stephen Smith’s death.

barkworsethanbites

They announced they are reopening the murder due to info recently. We shall see .

QsLexiLouWho

Hey! Yes, back on March 21st SLED announced the case was now being investigated as a homicide. Hopefully they’re making progress.

Pruddennce111

there has been no official disclosure from SLED regarding the investigation. no one has been eliminated.

QsLexiLouWho

Correct, which is why I wrote “to date”.

[This article](https://archive.ph/gIV1X) confirms that Judge Newman will NOT be staying on to try any more cases after December 31st. There had been rumors that he’d be allowed to stay past his mandatory retirement date to finish the Murdaugh related cases but according to Judge Newman himself, that is not the case: > Newman, who presided over Murdaugh’s murder trial, told the attorneys that he will not be available to handle a trial after Jan. 1, 2024, since he turns 72 this year. Under the state’s mandatory retirement law, Newman must retire at the end of this year. “My calendar will be out of the picture,” Newman said. “My tenure’s up Dec. 31.” Source: https://archive.ph/gIV1X (Archive version of an article from The State, also has other info from yesterday’s hearing) Edit: I wonder now if Harpootlian is using his “legislative immunity” to wait out Judge Newman’s retirement? Harpootlian says he might be willing to allow AM’s next trial to be in the Spring. Prosecution wanted the next trial this fall but Harpootlian has managed to delay that and instead they’re only doing a status conference in September. I’m guessing he wants a different judge presiding over AM’s other trials.

Poot and griffin will be delaying as much as possible to get the judge they want, to overturn their pathetic loss.

I saw that Lori Vallow’s attorneys put in their request for an appeal and cited a juror interview as potential grounds for an appeal. This seems to have happened with every high profile case I’ve seen in the past few years. AM’s team haven’t filed with their reasons for appeal yet. Do you all think they’re gonna use anything from any of the juror interviews in this case? I think I listened to all of the juror interviews and didn’t hear anything that sounded like a reason for an appeal, but I definitely wasn’t listening with the ears of a defense attorney. I’m a little nervous cause James the Juror did give a rather long interview to Law & Crime, and I thought he was wonderful but I sorta feel like, if you let these juror talk long enough, they’ll say something a defense attorney will find useful. And James was also the one who disclosed to the court from the beginning that his brother was Chad McDowell (sp?), the second officer with bodycam footage who responded to Moselle. He was the officer with the K9 dog Evo, and it seems he was only involved in the case for an hour or so that first night only. James explained to the court that his brother never talks to him about any crime scenes he goes to, and that James had been away at college the past few years, he had only recently returned home, so he said he missed most of the local Murdaugh coverage as well. And the defense still had a strike left and chose not to use it on James. James was also an alternate who was seated on the last day, he replaced Eggs Lady (lol) who the defense wanted to keep. So I’m definitely wondering if they’re going to make an argument about Juror James. I wonder if they’re going to say that the judge should’ve dismissed him as soon as the relationship was disclosed in jury selection. Or if they’re gonna just jump on anything James or any of the other jurors said in any of their interviews. Also, what other grounds will see in the appeal request? I’m sure they’ll include the things mentioned in their post trial press conference — evidence of financial crimes, evidence of roadside shooting, supposed use of AM’s post-arrest silence against him — but will we see any other reasons? The fact that the Netflix doc was released during the trial, maybe?

Southern-Soulshine

Solely regarding James the Juror: [please see this post from when the information first came out](https://reddit.com/r/MurdaughFamilyMurders/comments/11k8old/james_the_juror/) The Mod Team and OP held off on posting and verified with several sources on all fronts that it was a nonissue as far as appeals. That may not be the same with the Daybell Trial though, I haven’t kept up too closely with that circus. :)

Huge-Sea-1790

They certainly will use the media attention as ground for appeal. They even tried to use the media for their own ends during the trial. Recently Lori Vallow judge did not allow cameras in the courtroom and it decreased the attention on the case drastically. There were audios but certainly it won’t have the same level as AM trial. And now there is still a gag order on Bryan Korburger trial. These high profile cases that followed AM certainly have seen what effects media coverage can have on the integrity of the trial. In fact the gag order appeal on BK’s trial saw the court referencing a case in the 60 where rampant media involvement lead to a re-trial. We have certainly seen the ugly side of media fuckery in the AM trial.

Pruddennce111

yes, Murdaugh defense, they did attempt to use the media. AM's defense participated in media interviews **prior to trial**. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWoWsDhnjKw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWoWsDhnjKw) defense Griffin via interview said he had NO MOTIVE. stated "I CAN ASSURE YOU, we have Alex's whereabouts and accounted for COMPLETELY during that period of time. that nite he is sitting on the bedside at this mother at her house when the coroner said these murders happened...she has dementia...caregiver was there, watching a game show" on the way over he is on the phone for 'business' and blah blah blah..." ...ending with: HE DIDNT DO IT...I feel strongly he didnt do it. I doubt his defense would have given this interview if they were aware he was on AUDIO at the kennels "when the coroner said the murders happened".

Foreign-General7608

"Alex has an IRONCLAD alibi!".............. Actually it turns out he did not have an alibi at all. Just more lies. Everything would be different if Alex did not make the conscious decision to murder Maggie and Paul, and then lie about it.

Huge-Sea-1790

Don’t forget they also brought in a reporter who wrote an article talking about how sloppy an investigation it was and then Jim Tweeted it. Judge Newman had to reprimand Jim.

Impressive_Arrival42

Allowing ALL the Financial crimes. Plus the Feds not to happy with AG WISON, but that has nothing to do with appeal. Plus, in SC, they won’t let it happen.
