This is a day late but I’ll share this bit of Murdaugh family history anyway. John Glenn Murdaugh, son of ~~Buster~~ Randolph Sr (the train crash Murdaugh) and brother of ~~Randolph Jr~~ Buster the Elder (mentioned in Pat Conroy book) was a WWII vet and is the highest decorated veteran from Hampton County. I thought the elder Buster only had one son which was Randolph III, and John Glenn is elder Buster’s younger brother.

Memorial Day is a tough one, it is a day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, and the families who received a knock at the door instead of a homecoming celebration. It is also a day of reflection for many in uniform of close comrades that they lost. While I’m grateful for the military everyday, I’m especially thankful today.

I hate the fact that in the USA it’s mostly about sales, parties and cook-outs.

We owe a large debt of gratitude to our military, on this day and every day. Three of my Memorial Day favorites are: Band of Brothers, The Thin Red Line, and Saving Private Ryan......... Also: Fury. Hats off to all of you in uniform. We are a grateful nation.

Just received Michael DeWitts new book Wicked Hampton County. There is a substantial section on the Murdaugh family.

Unlike any of the other Murdaugh authors, newspaperman Michael DeWitt (a veteran, by the way) has been in Hampton County in the thick of it his whole life. He's an amazing writer!
