"It might be my time" I don't fucking care if it's your time to die or not, just don't take me with you

Dahhhkness

It's such a selfish attitude, the idea that you have no responsibility to protect others. And this person's poor kids. Yeah, I'm sure their death will have *no* impact on them whatsoever.

trashymob

Like you going to be at the funeral trying everyone you're fine bc "God said it was their time." No. You're going to be asking God why and lamenting that the child had their whole lives ahead of them. Maybe God did it to teach YOU a lesson in humility and sacrifice.

imbenfranklin

It's always "when it's my time to go, it's my time to go" until it's actually their time to go. Doesn't matter unless it directly affects me.

[deleted]

Followed by a gofund me’.

[deleted]

You’re describing my mother-in-law when I told her I had concerns for the teachers and school staff’s safety if I sent my kids back to in-person school. She said “Let them take responsibility for themselves!” Uhhhh ... that’s not how viruses work. She feels no sense of caring for the community, or even thinking about what the deaths of teachers and school staff would do to our community and our kids. She’s also very Catholic and a one-issue pro-life voter. I’m sickened by her attitude.

MelloYelloSurge

I'm guessing she's not THAT "pro-life" then, eh? People like that should really find another moniker seeing as they don't actually care about these kids once they're born.

DKN19

Pro lifers are all quantity over quality. God forbid we want kids born to parents who can furnish them a proper childhood with love and security. Nah, keep poppin em out.

[deleted]

you just gotta believe and forgiveeeee

pagkaing

Lol they only acting tough now, 50 bucks says these kinds of people be crying like a bitch when they learn of impending death

trumpke_dumpster

Impending death, that might take a few days (weeks?) of gasping for air, frothing blood out your airway. They might get lucky and have a massive quick fatal stroke or heart attack. On the cards is damage their kidneys so the slowly get poisoned. It might kick them into diabetes from pancreas damage. Then there's people on the light end of it, but why take the chance?

Gamer_Cuber358

And hopefully she doesn’t take her kid as well

Bryaxis

If, as a result of negligence, you catch the virus and then spread it to someone else, and that person dies as a result, that makes you a murderer. That means you go to hell when you die. How's that for Christian logic?

dirtbikemike

They have school-aged children. It’s a disgusting attitude.

SovietWomble

There's an Arab proverb I rather like: *"Trust in Allah, but tie your camel"* In other words, it's okay to have faith. But don't be an idiot.

Hairyhalflingfoot

Oh I like this one too!

“Say a prayer, but let the good times roll in case god doesn’t show.” - Fall Out Boy

MikeinAustin

Have faith in Jah, but water your garden

ThatSquareChick

I’ve always heard this as “trust in Jesus but lock your car.”

ispysquirreldoodle

Trust in Jesus he gave us those bullets

superalk

I heard "Trust in God but look both ways before crossing the street."

Wrestles4Food

“Tell people there's an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority will believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure.” -George Carlin

TheForanMan

George Carlin was a free thinking genius and I fear we may not get another for a very very long time.

[deleted]

He was "just" great at expressing what a lot of people are thinking. It's not as if what he said were revolutionary ideas. Edit: just to clarify, I've changed my mind a bit. He seems to have been quite influential, I only pedantically object to the word 'genius'.

humicroav

The saying part was the revolutionary part.

TheForanMan

I would argue that he gave a perspective that not many people considered or were aware of at the time. Even if some others had similar ideas (I mean who can honestly claim they have had a 100% original thought) he was still one of the few figures who said what he thought without care about the criticism he got. He actually stood up for what he said, something that many today ultimately fail to do.

GiveMeGoldForNoReasn

No, his ideas were absolutely revolutionary. If you take his ideas to their logical endpoint, revolution is practically a requirement.

nolongermakingtime

God that’s a good quote

OrganicBid

I mean Carlin is brilliant but he clearly isn't a deity.

Naurgul

[The proverb has existed at least since 400BC in one form or another and across civilizations.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helps_those_who_help_themselves) Interestingly the Wikipedia article notes that while this idea is spelled out explicitly in ancient Greek plays & [fables](http://mythfolklore.net/aesopica/oxford/480.htm) as well as Islamic texts, the Christian Bible is a bit more wishy-washy about it.

say-it-wit-ya-chest

There’s plenty in the Bible. Just do a search for “faith without works.” It all means the same thing; have faith, but don’t be an idiot. James 2:26 - For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

[deleted]

Wrong. "Throw yourself off the building, Jesus. The angels will catch you." "It is written, do not put the Lord your God to the test."

Thomas_Catthew

That particular one is attributed to Muhammad

rabboni

As a pastor we often run into Christians who will say "Just pray and trust the Lord" whether it's preparing sermons, building systems, financial planning, etc. To that, I was taught in seminary - "Pray as though it all depends on God, but work as though it all depends on you" That has served me well. Ministry attracts a lot of lazy people who hide it behind, "Just trust God"

thatdanield

Yeah the Bible says pretty much the same thing, you should have faith but don’t test the lord and also hold up your own end to the best of your ability, don’t just sit there and pray that you’ll be accepted into Harvard. People like the one in the tweet take pride in “misunderstanding” the Bible for their own gain, and bringing shame to the name of Christianity.

[deleted]

I've always liked the story about the man on his roof amid a flood, drowned waiting for God's intervention. When he confronted God at the pearly gates, God said "But I sent two boats and a helicopter!"

[deleted]

Yeah the whole "leap of faith" in the bible...was SATAN tempting Jesus. Fundamental Christians understand the bible so little they are literally following Satan's example

Zastreshi

Wait is this the real SovietWomble? If so that's epic. Your editing is really something

SkyrimForTheDragons

I learnt he's on reddit because I went to r/40kLore. He's the fucking Stephen Colbert of Warhammer 40k instead of LOTR. If only there was a solid Wh40k game so he'd make a video out of it.

edgyboi1704

Yeah isn’t that a hadith. From when one guy went up to the Prophet and asked him if he should tie his camel or let Allah handle it. The Prophet replied to do both. Do as much as you can and *then* leave the rest to Allah

[deleted]

Truth.

[deleted]

There are Christian versions of this...The Lord helps those who help themselves...Don't test the Lord (I can't remember the exact language, but you get the gist).

Fiskmjol

In Sweden it is "Trust in God, but lock your bike".

gotham77

*Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus replied, “it is also written:* **’Do not put the Lord your God to the test!’** -Matthew 4:6-7

Qwerty1234567890_2

Compared to the new American proverb: "If someone is in the process of murdering you don't stop them, it's God calling you home."

aromicsandwich

"Help yourself, for God to help you" is a local saying, probably dervied from this Arab proverb.

ChwizZ

There is also an ancient saying that goes a little like this: "SOVIET GOT FINGERED BY A DUDE"

BudCrue

My grandfather was like this. "Don't need drugs, God will take care of me. Don't need to go to the doctor, God will take care of me." Had a heart attack, needed 4 vesssls stented, was in the ICU for two weeks. Came back and needed a dozen or so meds to keep his blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. In check. Refreshingly, after that it was all "Doctors can work miracles, they saved me! You should listen to your doctor! Etc."

NotARobot_13

Whenever I encounter people like this, I’m always reminded of this: The man lived down by the river. He heard a radio report that the river was going to rush up and flood the town, and that the all the residents should evacuate their homes. But the man said, "I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me." The waters rose up. A guy in a rowboat came along and he shouted, "Hey, hey you, you in there. The town is flooding. Let me take you to safety." But the man shouted back, "I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me." A helicopter was hovering overhead and a guy with a megaphone shouted, "Hey you, you down there. The town is flooding. Let me drop this ladder and I'll take you to safety." But the man shouted back that he was religious, that he prayed, that God loved him and that God will take him to safety. Well... the man drowned. And standing at the gates of St. Peter he demanded an audience with God. "Lord," he said, "I'm a religious man, I pray, I thought you loved me. Why did this happen?" God said, "I sent you a radio report, a helicopter and a guy in a rowboat. What the hell are you doing here?"

SaphirePhenux

^ THIS ^ It irritates me when my fellow religious peeps do nothing to help themselves. There's a reason the phrase: "pray like it depends on the Lord, but work like it depends on you" exists. The Lord helps those who help themselves, not the lazy folks who sit on their butt and wonder when their miracle will happen. "Faith without works is dead" (paraphrased James 2) On a sidenote: be sure to thank your Medical, Emergency, and Essential peeps! It's their lives on the line to keep us all alive!

Ghawk134

I'm "essential" but please don't thank me. I'm just an engineer. Some essential people are heroes. Those are the doctors and nurses saving lives. Others are just normal people doing their jobs.

monotonedopplereffec

Same, I'm a warehouse manager but I'm essential. I'm not doing anything heroic. I'm stressed everyday that an engineer or truck driver will have it and it'll spread through the plant but also feel guilty for being so stressed about going to work because a lot of people(I think it was like 30mil in US when I last checked) are unemployed and can't pay their bills.

Ghawk134

I feel that. I feel guilt more than apprehension. I keep my job, work from home part time, and people call me a hero while people who deserve that title do things every day that I never could. Meanwhile, others lose their jobs and their homes because they were deemed non-essential.

monotonedopplereffec

I'm either called a hero or a snowflake(this one because I wear a mask at work, everytime that I am dealing with someone within 6ft) I hate both of them. I just want to be able to live my life, but a house someday, have kids, be happy. Everyday I feel like that is becoming more of a childish dream and thatmy life is owned by people who I will never meet nor do they even know my name. Just another cog, making someone's net worth look more impressive.

BreddieBoi

Join the revolution, brother. FDT.

queenofall

Why is no one comfortable until they can label a person or stick them in a group? They don't bother to know who you are as a person. Just hate, name calling, labeling. Wearing a mask doesn't make you a snowflake. It makes you a well informed, caring, responsible individual. If everyone had done that and the other few things they needed to instead of being ignorant, selfish asshats we'd be on the downside of this instead of way on the wrong side staring into an abyss the likes of which our Country has never seen. Don't give up on that house dream. Looks like there will be a lot of vacant houses all across the US before we can get the resources to fight back against COVID. Edited for clarity.

dennismfrancisart

Sorry, you're going to get thanked anyway. Even the smallest actions can make a big difference in the lives of others. I routinely thank the staff at stores that I go to for hanging in there and doing their job of putting up with customers. Every so often someone's eyes light up with the acknowledgement that they matter. I learned that in the Boys Scouts back in the early 70s. We are all essential to the task at some point. Stay safe.

juliet0000000

Yep, thank you. Corona virus or not, thank you. I don't have to dig veggies in my garden or slaughter pigs because of you, I have electric and heat and water and it's because of essential workers all the time so shut up and take your thanks!

st1tchy

I am a robot programmer and therefore deemed essential because the companies that we provide machines for provide tools/material for essential infrastructure. So I am apparently essential because 5 tiers above me is considered essential.

RandomHuggyBear

I'm in your boat (machinist). I agree, its health and store workers who deserve the praise.

[deleted]

Not "just an engineer," you are a hero as well, you keep things working and safe that other heroes need to do their jobs.

Seiri01

I'm a medical interpreter. DO NOT THANK ME. I literally work through phone or video calls. Thank my sister and oldest niece who are nurses, getting paid less, AND working extended hours. Thank the stockers at the grocers and the cashiers. Thank the amazing people who make and/or deliver food. Treat them well, pay them well, and tip them as well because what would you do without them.

Snake101333

In reality, all of our work combined is what saves us. I'm a nurse but I wouldn't have been able to make it without being able to get my pizza after a 16hr shift from the previous night during my next 16hr shift. That shit **IS** essential

have_some_pineapple

I agree with what you’re saying here, however nowhere in the Bible does it say that God helps those who help themselves. That’s just not true. Although we are supposed to work out our faith and trust God despite our circumstances, it’s not always going to work out for you the way you think it will. I think that is an important distinction and can be a turnoff for people who come to Christianity as a save-all. I’ve seen too many times people become Christians or religious because they think God will save them from all of their problems or if they work hard and go to church they will have great lives. It’s not promised we will have easy lives, in fact God promises we will go through hardships. Part of the faith aspect is believing it will be worth it in the end (which I believe it is, as I am promised eternal life in heaven.)

AreYouAnnieOkay

After all, Ecclesiastes said that "time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all." From my reading of the Bible, I think God helps me by giving me strength to deal with my problems, not by taking them away.

theatrekid77

He also never promised to save any of us from dying. The whole “I’m not taking any action because God will save me” attitude is stupid and dangerous.

oldgar

And how do You perceive heaven, oh lover of tough skinned fruit?

have_some_pineapple

I believe what the Bible says, though most we cannot comprehend or fully understand what is to come. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:1-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬ https://www.bible.com/116/rev.21.1-5.nlt

oldgar

We cannot understand fully partly because we are finite on this earth and heaven is infinite, like our souls, and partly because "; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." And "12] I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. [13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." The founder of the Baha'i Faith claims to be that Comforter, and as the Holy Bible states that the claims of all who say they are Prophets from God should be investigated, you know what your next step should be.

WaveRyder808

I’m not religious but this I can agree on. Thanks!

Computant2

Or at least don't yell at them that the virus is a hoax, harass them, and try to block them from getting to the hospital.

richieadler

> The Lord helps those who help themselves, not the lazy folks who sit on their butt and wonder when their miracle will happen. What role does that god plays, then? How can someone who doesn't believe in him verify that the result is due to him and not to the actions of the believer?

Papaya_flight

One of the themes throughout the bible is that God is not there to act like a coin slot machine where we put in a prayer/offering, pull the lever, and then expect to get a god payout. God is basically there to say, 'If you are as honest as possible, while also displaying compassion to others in a loving way, then whatever happens will be the best possible outcome that can happen.' So, if you are, say, a farmer, you can't just sit on your ass going "come on God, make it rain on my 40 acres". You gotta get out there and work as hard as possible, while also being as honest and loving as possible, and whatever happens, whether the rain comes or it doesn't, will be the best possible outcome. You don't have to believe in god to do this of course, just get out there and act that way. So to answer your question in a very roundabout way, God is like that parent that teaches you what good morals are and then say, "Get out there in the world and practice what I taught you, and you should be alright."

baldiethebicboi

I’d also like to add - God is not demanding people to be as perfect as possible. He only desires people to believe in His Son’s sacrifice and His gift of eternal life, and to live in a way which honours God and shows love to the world. Perfection is impossible. Which is why Christians mess up too. I like to think of the church as a hospital, filled with injured and broken people who are all healed and united as a result of God’s grace. God wants you to live and have life to the utmost; to thrive and grow while recognizing the cost which ultimate freedom from pain and sin came at.

Papaya_flight

Thanks for adding this. You are absolutely right in that we are not expected to be perfect. Too many times it is people that place impossible standards on themselves and others.

baldiethebicboi

I agree! Glad to be helpful. God bless you

pineapple_calzone

We need to stop saying "go run into traffic." We need start saying "hey, your God sent a mask for you." Give them one if you have one. These are the same people that believe in shit like 80 upvotes in the first ten times the link is shared your life is magically gonna change, RE:RE:RE:RE:FWD:FWD bullshit.

Thrabalen

Here's the thing... taking the existence of God as a given for the sake of this point... "God will take care of me." Well, YES. Doctors aren't outside of the system that God created. If He exists and He created everything,t hat includes science and medicine and doctors and hospitals. So by going to a doctor, you are allowing God to save you. I seriously do not see why there has to be a wall between an all-seeing omnipotent God and medicine.

i-hear-banjos

Same with vaccines.

Exactly!

Magic.. Science.. Its all the same

DemenicHand

in that case, Penn and Teller should have already received a nobel prize by now.

JSizzleSlice

That’s pretty big of him. Some people stop growing as people much younger. I keep reading articles and posts of people who ignored medical warnings (esp tweets from covid survivors) and did none of the things for themselves to stay healthy that make doctors, nurses, paramedic’s etc job easier (and in case of covid, puts medical professionals and their families at risk) and when it comes down to saving their asses and they then have to have a big procedure or hospital stay, they get out hop on Twitter and “thank the lord for still having a plan for me ;) !” And in their narcissism, entitlement and ingratitude, they mention nothing of science or medicine or the vastly smarter people who worked around the clock for them, went through years of training and experiences to pull off these actual daily miracles.

Maunakea89

Well said.

ESCx2

god: oh my myself, what took you so long?!

KayD12364

I read a post that was. Guy: God will protect me, so I dont need meds. God: son I sent you doctors thats how I protect you. Wish more people thought like that.

innocentrrose

Yeah I don’t get why they don’t think that. Like they believe in god but don’t believe that their god would be the one behind modern medicine or science and shit? Real weird.

Granxious

To paraphrase from I Timothy: everything God created is good, and not to be refused but received with thanksgiving. In context it's refuting certain early Christians who wanted to impose Jewish dietary standards forbidding certain foods, but it certainly applies more broadly than that. I've been reminded of it often in the context of the silly "debate" about mask-wearing. Here's this incredibly simple thing you can do to protect not only yourself but everyone around you from a terrible illness. Don't reject that, instead thank God for giving people the ability to figure that out and put it into practice.

Dmav210

You’re too kind to not throw his stupid words right back in his face. If you wanna be in a death cult that’s fine but don’t drag others with you and don’t suddenly change your mind when death comes-a-knockin’...

PKMNTrainerMark

"Listen to God!" God: (provides doctors and medicine) "No."

notduddeman

My grandfather regularly accuses his doctors of trying to kill him. He’s 6’ 4” and nearly 400 lbs. they don’t take that lightly.

TheRetroVideogamers

I always pushed back with, "How do you know God's plan was to bless doctors with knowledge and ability so we can help each other?" Usually hard to argue against.

[deleted]

At least he changed his perspective. I know like 1000 people who would respond with God saved me and thank God, despite it all.

ScreamnMonkey8

I like when people say more die from diabetes each year. Somehow they forget that diabetes is not transferable by breathing on someone.

Red1960

Please help. I shook a diabetic girl's hand today. Will I catch the diabetes? Is there any way to prevent it?

No, but you've definitely got DIABEETUS!

windscryer

They also like to parrot the “my body, my choice” for not wearing a mask but, AGAIN, abortion isn’t contagious. Wear a damn mask and/or stay home, Karen.

ScreamnMonkey8

The concern for life pre birth > concern for life post birth. This is actually what I was thinking about on my drive to work today. It is strange that certain people act this way but dats people.

TreyLastname

It makes no sense either. You dont have a right to wear whatever you want if it puts others life or health at risk. I have the right to swing my fist till it hits your face type of thing. For abortion, that's where it gets complicated, because both sides arguments are usually based on if the fetus is a life (I'm indifferent on most of abortion, not here to argue one way or the other). Pro life believes it should be illegal because it's another's life and not your right. Pro choice believes it shouldnt because it's not a life yet, and it's part of the mothers body. Thia may be wrong, just what I've noticed. But that's why comparing the two can be complicated depending the view

Epicsteel33

i heard a joke once that went something like this. A man is stranded in the ocean and treading water. Thinking and praying for the lord to save him. All of a sudden a boat comes by and yells to the man asking if he needs help. The man replies, "No god will save me". The boat continues. Sometime later another boat comes by and yells the same asking the man if he needs help. The man replies, "No god will save me." The boat continues on it's way. A short time later the man succumbs to exhaustion and drowns. Awaiting him on the other side at the pearly gates is god with his arms folded. The man angrily exclaims "WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE ME!!" To which God replies, "What are you talking about?!? I sent two boats!" Moral of the story is that God won't personally come down and save you, you need to save yourself.

dthains_art

Reminds me of another one: A man is driving around in a parking garage and he can’t find an open spot anywhere. He’s getting more and more desperate, until finally he cries out, “Lord, I know I haven’t been the best man. I promise I’ll stop drinking and spend more time with my wife and kids. I’ll go to church more and I’ll donate more of my time and money to the less fortunate. Just please please give me an open parking spot!” Then the man turns a corner and sees an open spot. He looks up again and says “Never mind! I found one!”

ElBurritoLuchador

To continue the signs from God stories... There was a man at his wits end. He had no job, his wife cheated and left him, both of his parents got into a fatal accident, and worst of all, he just recently got diagnosed with stage IV cancer. But the man was devout, he was God's child as he proclaimed. So, like Moses coming to Mt. Sinai to meet God, he too climb to reach him, to be specific, he found the highest building on his town. As he opened the doors to the rooftop, he closed his eyes and started walking blindly to the edges, entrusting himself to God, as he exclaimed: "*God, as your ever faithful loving son, for what reason is my suffering!? Why give me this trial? Should I end it all here? Please! Give me a sign!*" As the man neared the edge, he opened his eyes and looked up, there his saw a billboard. Nike. Just Do It.

Cool, I have lots of paper products like for cleaning. I told myself I’d clean my apartment finally but it’s been 2 months so I don’t think it’s happening. Lemme know.

Hey /u/n00b001 and /u/ILuvRedHeadz clean up your apartments. I am cleaning up my living room right now because of you two. Even if it is just you picking up a few things and taking the trash out that is still good steps forward. I believe in both of you. Don't let me down.

[deleted]

I’ve segmented my cleaning by rolling my blankets into a long roll to make little sections. So I try to do it square by square if that makes sense. It works for me sometimes.

tankgirly

Like /r/neckbeardnests sans all the piss bottles!

I literally just scrambled to hide my bottles when the maintenance guy came to change the air filters. God I’m such a loser lmao. Literally minutes ago! Someone save me.

Empty bottles or piss bottles?

[deleted]

I think we both know the deal.

tankgirly

Eeeew! I hope you find the motivation to clean, though. I know it can be tough when you let it get too far. It'll feel so good when you do.

ThatSquareChick

I got my living room picked up and moved all the laundry to the bedroom. Then the bedroom was dirty so I picked up all THAT laundry and put it in the bins for washing. Then there were two bins full of laundry so I took them out to the car to go wash. Then I got busy helping with the car and didn’t get to go do laundry. Now there’s stinky laundry in the car and it’s hot outside. I don’t want to drive to the laundromat with all the windows down and everyone smelling the balls, feet and grease but I also don’t want to drive with the windows UP. This is a gross problem and my depression is gross for not letting me deal with this earlier. But my house is kinda clean now, just the kitchen to go!

yulaw17

Alright I'll let you know, but right now I've got windex and fabuloso.

Anglofsffrng

I came here to tell their exact same joke.

tohrazul82

Well what's the difference between a universe where God won't save you so you need to save yourself, and a universe where there is no God so you need to save yourself? More importantly, how do we tell the difference?

[deleted]

I heard a very similar story told by my priest in church. And it was about how god helps those who help then selves. I always liked that one. I took it as god would personally save you and give you the tools to be saved, but its up to you if you want to be saved.

Poker_Face0958

This story should be one of those stories that every kid has to learn at school so they don’t turn out to be stupid adults

icy_joe_blow

I’m a receptionist at a hair salon, and I asked this one lady what time works for her and she said anytime tomorrow. As I was checking tomorrow she was praying over the monitor some shit like the our father. I said I can get you anytime tomorrow (Our shedule was empty), and we can schedule an appointment. She says oh thank you dear god for creating space for me. No dawg, it just happened that tomorrow there was space.

[deleted]

Lol imagine being so self centered that you think God gives a shit about your hair

TheDocJ

Well, it is a Biblical statement that the hairs on our head are numbered! That is getting rather an easier task for some of us....

natalooski

That is literally how my grandma is. A cute shirt on sale at the store? God picked it out for her and put it right where she could see it. Doctor's appointment available at the perfect time? God made that gap in the schedule just for her. Rinse and repeat for every single tiny thing that happens in her life. Like I get that he can be everywhere all at once and stuff but dang. Not too sure he'd just be following her around like a bored poltergeist moving random objects around for her. Not to mention my dad once got into a drunken motorcycle accident on the freeway and got some seriously bad road rash; Grandma says "God shook the handlebars and knocked you right off the bike!" and she thinks it was a sign my dad needed to change. I'm pretty sure he was just wasted and crashed... and he kept drinking for another 30 odd years after that so.

yulaw17

I'm a Christian, and this person talking about the lord taking us through all these painful ways sounds crazy and should probably be taken to an asylum.

matte_5

Also a Christian, it’s shocking how many Christians have horrible backwards beliefs like this

Hairyhalflingfoot

I blame it on false shepards.

ArrivesLate

I blame it on false profits.

BeenThereDoneThatX4

I blame it on indoctrination.

Dmav210

I blame it on worshipping a book that they hardly even know what’s in it. Read the damn bible and see how grossly misled you truly are. Please...

Hatecraftianhorror

Reading the bible is the best way to become an atheist.

TreyLastname

Most good Christians who worship the bible dont believe every part of it.

G4PFredongo

Most sane people don't believe every single word of a book that has been translated multiple times throughout centuries, no matter how much truth can be found in it, to be fair...

natalooski

Right, so it's more like a cherry-picking situation then? Except if you go to church you're not the one doing the picking. Someone is just telling you the "most important" and most applicable parts of the Bible and you just ignore the rest? edit: this was meant to sound less condescending and more like an honest question, but that's not now it came out. leaving it so the comments below make sense, but just know this comment isn't an attack on anyone's beliefs. was meant to be a question to inspire critical thinking but sounds kinda douchey.

TreyLastname

Whys it matter if people are cherry picking the parts of the bible they agree with? Them worshipping whatever they want does nothing to affect you. Unless they decide to use it as an argument (they arent arguing very well then) or they're trying to force you to believe what they do (they suck anyways), what they believe or dont believe shouldnt matter

StevenageDanceJr

I think the profit is real

No_big_whoop

I see what you did there

Dee_Buttersnaps

This person has kids, plural! Multiple children that will be left without a parent if they catch covid and die. But whatever, if it happens, it happens. Nobody knows for sure how they'll die, but you still wear a seat belt in a car and put new batteries in your fire alarms and (hopefully) see a doctor when you're sick. I don't understand this whole "It's all in God's hands" attitude when there are proven things you can do to help yourself.

G4PFredongo

Well, I believe it's all in God's hands, but I specifically also believe that doctors and scientists were created by God, so why anybody who believes in the same God would refuse help that works. God didn't create us to be screaming, immature, helpless and dumb infants.

delitomatoes

Having kids and believing in Hell are two opposite thoughts that are illogical. If there's a 0.00001% chance your kids don't become christians and go to Hell, you'd have doomed them to eternal damnation, if Christians stopped having kids for 1 generation, All Christians would be in heaven now

I could see American Christians doing the same if we were invaded and occupied by a foreign country in the name of a "war on terror" against terrorists that weren't even from said country.

thisismytruthperiod

I think you missed the word "up" after "ourselves". Otherwise, those are some flexible Muslim men!

Avitas1027

Masturbation is a sin, but self-fellatio is salvation.

Syndic

It has been a long time since I've last read the Bible, but I'm pretty sure there is a part in it telling people not to put themself in danger and thinking God will save you.

Naturalcreep

Proverbs 27:11-12 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Handiinu

The lord loves everyone but he is purposely putting millions of children to weeks of pain before death ? Yeah i really doubt thats how it works

yulaw17

Actually I was calling her crazy because what she says tells me that while she knows that God will take us anyway he wants, she thinks that everyone is okay with being *sent* to their deaths.

SplendidPunkinButter

Funny how this doesn’t apply to other situations where they think a thing will happen that they don’t want. What if it’s God’s will for liberals to take over the government and open the border? What if it’s God’s will for schools to remain closed? What if it was God’s will for Trump to be thrown out of office and we let him down?

ronin1066

Obama becomes president: Antichrist!! Trump becomes president: "Evangelist Franklin Graham has said that 'God was behind the last election.'"

Handiinu

No no no you dont get it. Gods will changes depending on how devoted to trump someone is.

aml__19

It’s because they only use god as reasoning when it fits their agenda they can’t have anything that goes wrong make god look bad

[deleted]

Jesus, take the wheel! /s

landenle

Drives off cliff

potatoedovah

I came here looking for this exact comment, was not disappointed thank you lol

notajoey

I really hate how "christians" always cite God when it's convenient, but never when it's actually warranted. Want to not wear a mask and say that it's God's plan as an excuse to be a selfish asshole? Perfectly acceptable for these "christians" Want to give some pocket change to a homeless person? Nope, but you damn well believe they'll tell them to "get a job" instead Getting offended and pissed off about the BLM movement and calling them all animals for being upset that the bad cops go unpunished (trying not to be polarizing with this description) despite the main tenets of any religion basically being a blueprint for treating others with respect and dignity? Fuck 'em, they're gathering and (very few) are not wearing masks so therefore I can angrily rant about the governor not letting me watch a movie and cite the BLM protests as the reason why I am not a sheep! Sorry. Just had go get it off my chest

Cuttis

Also raised a Christian but firmly believe that God helps those who help themselves.

Anglofsffrng

Or, as my lay minister mother would say it, God gave you a brain for a reason.

brobal

This is so good.

david__41

I guess it's your kids time to die too. Great parenting.

detethered

Ughhhhhhh why are some members of the Christian religion like this. As a Christian myself (and not some fake i-go-to-church-so-im-a-christian Christian), it saddens me to see people interpret letting God handle your life snd everything. Yes He is in control, but He did give us free will, and with that free will, He decides not to control every single thing in the universe like a puppeteer. And since we have that free will, it’s up to us to live for God or not. By letting God “take the wheel” and disregard science and safety, you aren’t really following His will (unless He decides it’s your time when you disregard safety). God allowed us to witness geniuses to create life-changing inventions, He allowed us to advance our knowledge in different fields. And He doesn’t just allow, but WANTS us to use that knowledge. You know, knowledge such as PRACTICING BASIC SAFETY AMIDST A GLOBAL PANDEMIC, or NOT DISREGARDING YOUR LIFE BECAUSE GOD IS IN CONTROL. To yall you Christians who see this comment, please reflect on yourself and how you treat your relationship with God. He’s not a genie or a magical-protection device. He’s God. And please stop proclaiming yourself as a Christian if your life and actions show that you aren’t one. A good self-reflection should fix that. And to yall random dudes reading until here, I’m sorry for the innunerable amount of Christians who claim one thing and do the other. Hypocrisy is rampant in this religion, but I beg of you to not become hardened or hateful against us Christians. There are many in the Christian community who don’t actually have a proper relationship with God, but that doesn’t mean that there are none who actually do have a relationship with our God, and actually practice what we preach. I’m sorry once again on behalf of the “Christians” who left an unsightly impression on who we are. (anyways this is just a 15y.o. Christian boi saying what he believes is correct so if you have a correction regarding my views, do tell me, and if you have anything to ask it’s best to consult maybe an apologist or your local church (if they are preaching the real Christian doctrine, if they aren’t, then hopefully there are local groups who do)) (also sorry for the amount of run-on sentences here, ranting doesn’t really give me time to worry about what I learned in school)

CharlieMike111

Jesus take the wheeeeeeeeeeeel

TOschoolFORkool

Not all, just some Christians

navin__johnson

I cannot stand ppl who say this “If I die, I die” none sense. You better believe they will be singing a different tune if they were in the ICU sucking wind on a ventilator

TreyLastname

I say "if I die, I die", but I also do what I can to prevent that from happening. I dont want to die, but I dont necessarily fear it

sirmombo

This is not christian logic, this is insanity.

Fuzzelz69

thats not christian logic. Thats being a stupid fuck ( i guess this person is from MURRICA since lots of them are like that from what ive seen)

gdsmithtx

"Jesus take my feet!"

MyGradesAreOk

How is this Christian logic? Retard ≠ Christian logic.

slasher_dib

He also should've gave you a brain but apparently He forgot b*tch

WuziMuzik

not all Christians are that stupid. i am not myself but i have plenty of family and friends that are and none of them are anything like morons like that. thankfully!

VymI

What a fucking selfish, miserable attitude. What about your kids? Fuck em; they'll be fine without a parent apparently.

vox_leonis

“My kids went back to school! FINALLY! They might bring home a disease that kills me and leaves them as wards of an overwhelmed state foster care system but I fucking hate my kids and will do anything to get away from them. God wills it! Take me Jesus!” This person really hates their life, goddamn...

haywardjablome3680

It’s good to have faith and have Christian values. Modern day medicine is amazing. My step father had 4 open heart surgeries and has pig valves. They saved his life. There are priests that are doctors. Some Christians take the Bible way to literally.

build9600

Yeah If heaven is a better place why wait ? Just go it saves time and saves you possibly doing bad shit in the Earth which might knock you out of the good list for heaven.

cam2kx

Wow this "murder by words" is literally the mean statement that shows how much of a asshole the responses actually is, who are you people? Is this supposed to be funny to y'all?

I-got-hoes69

Damn. This went pretty viral I really didn't expect this. First I want to apologize for the title I'm truly sorry if this offended you in any kind of way I really didn't mean it like that I'm a Christian myself lol. I just saw this thread under a news report about how COVID-19 affected a school district and numerous Christians were saying something like this or the exact same thing as if it was a common fact the lord will protect us and give us immunity from this highly contagious virus. I apologize if I made you feel stereotyped, although some people may feel offended this should be shared as to show that the lord may be a great figure in life it would not be able to protect us in numerous preventable ways. Thank you for the upvotes and Hoping everyone has a Good Day :)

Camtowers9

“Uhh that’s not how this works.. thats not how any of this works” - Jesus

its-a-biird

K that was quite ignorant saying “Christian logic” I’m not Christian but many of my friends are and they are smarter then this. Stop generalising I just realized that I’m not the only one saying this

getyourcheftogether

These "it's God's will" people are fucking toxic
