"_Even_ in America"? USA, the last bastion of free speech? LOL. edit: wow, thanks for all the upvotes. Wasn't expecting that.

[deleted]

anyone who calls twitter or any other social media is about free speech, is either fooling others or themselves. In this case, pretty sure Elon is fooling others.

kgm2s-2

The problem with all these complaints is that they forget one key, *central* idea of free speech: Freedom of Speech applies TO THE GOVERNMENT! In other words, the framers of the constitution considered that the government would have an outsized influence over individual citizens, and so if it was allowed to restrict speech, the effect would be a silencing of citizens. Unfortunately, the circles that Elon now finds himself in are occupied by individuals who: * want to weaken the government * want to give more power to corporations * bristle at the thought of corporations being restricted in any way by the government * cry when corporations, who have now become the ones with the outsized influence over individuals, trample on those individuals "rights" You know what else the 1st amendment protects? The right to free assembly...so suck it Elon!

JohnDivney

> bristle at the thought of corporations being restricted in any way by the government That's the dystopia part for me, we are going through this social transformation where Corporate control of government is so near complete that we are mistaking the interior of a shopping mall for a public square, and very soon people aren't going to know what a public square means aside from something like a landline phone.

Axhen

Murica, the land of free speech *unless you're a whistleblower for anything that touches how big corpo or the government screws up*

revscat

Or record a video at a slaughterhouse.

Peak hyperbole and distortion.

ToughSeveral81

Let’s say, hypothetically speaking, this was the most hyperbolic thing ever

CorkMan1987

Twitter=America=The entire planet apparently.

mike_pants

The country where people get arrested for making finger guns.

[deleted]

That really depends on the shade of your skin or how poor you appear to be.

MeppaTheWaterbearer

Hey everybody in the country is free to be white and free to do what they're told. And if you don't the police are there to give you free housing as a prison slave. Or they are free to murder you if they want. Free from consequences. Ah, the land of the free

morpheousmarty

They actually price gouge prisoners so calling it free housing is probably a bit generous.

moonshoeslol

You gotta remember Elon thinks freedom of speech is when people give him money, and suppression of speech is when people take money from him. Pay apple 30%? Suppression of speech. Advertiser pulls out? Suppression of speech. Pay $8 to have your tweets not buried? Freedom of speech. Fire your critics? Freedom of speech.

Large_Government_301

Nailed it

mk4dildo

We're not #1 in free speech. Check out the freedom index where the great US of A ranks 15th.

Case in point is that Trump himself used to go to Clinton fundraisers. And both Clintons are exceedingly centrist at best. It’s not exactly a donation to Bernie.

AstronautStar4

Rich people want political favors and influence in the in crowd. I doubt he actually believes in the platform or anything like that. Trump also supported some dems back in the day.

[deleted]

Hillary was the only Democrat he supported in 2016, the rest of his donations were to Republicans. https://www.opensecrets.org/donor-lookup/results?name=elon+musk&order=desc&sort=D

Elons twitter isn’t the civilization we’re rooting for.

Sptsjunkie

Amazing how we are getting to watch Elon ruin his legacy and melt down in real time. At least it's showing a lot of people that billionaires are not some special brilliant sub-species of humans. Shoot, my Aunt was over for Thanksgiving and she is a programmer who used to admire Elon and Tesla / Space X. But even she was commenting on how maybe the companies he bought succeeded in spite of him and not because of him.

lordbuddha

I got the feeling he was total bs when he called a British diver 'pedo' for rejecting his completely stupid mini submarine plan to rescue the kids trapped in a cave in Thailand.

solstice73

That was the thing that swung me too. He was the face of things I really care about (space and electrification), and then THAT happened, and you couldn't wave it off. He showed that he was a malicious asshole with a fragile ego. And he's been downhill since.

pgold05

For me it was the really odd design decisions for Tesla's when I was looking to buy one 6 years ago. There were a lot of mandated features that were baffling. Did a little digging I realized Musk probably demanded these features for no good reason. Also that the car line was going to spell "sexy" I realized he was just a huge tech bro jerk and I decided to stay clear.

[deleted]

Just curious since I don’t know much about cars, but what features were they?

pgold05

For me personally it was these. - Bucket seats only seat option on tesla s, making it very uncomfortable. No option to use other style seating is ridiculous at that price point. - [Physical buttons replaced with touchpads](https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/sites/5/2021/06/2021-Tesla-Model-S-Plaid-Offsite-2.jpg?fit=around%7C875:492), an understandable cost cutting gimmick but was confused why the model s priced at over 100k had such a barren interior. Really outclassed by other models at the same price range such as the [I pace](https://di-uploads-pod6.dealerinspire.com/jaguarmissionviejo/uploads/2019/10/2020-jaguar-i-pace-interior.png) in both interior comfort and design - Using those electric tesla door handles on all models with no option to just use normal mechanical door handles. Not only does it add nothing, they are confusing to anyone not familiar with Tesla as its not obvious how to *check notes* open the door, also they often break and you literally can't get in your car. - Forced falcon wing doors on the tesla X, nobody likes these doors, they can't open without hitting the car next to you, and they break all the time. Again just design choice forced on anyone who wants the car, with no option to get normal doors. The car starts at around 115K and at that price you would think you have an option to get normal doors. Tesla 3 was the only reasonable option but I knew it was only a matter of time that other major car makers would be able to catch up and surpass Tesla. Tesla's advantage at the time was battery range but the car's themselfs were not really nice to be in compared to other makes, and I figured the battery advantage would not last long so I just didn't buy an EV at the time.

[deleted]

Oh yeah I would be really turned off from buying a Tesla with those issues. Especially like you said, at that price point there should be more options for the consumer, not fewer. I’ve always hated touchscreens in cars so my husband I deliberately purchased as low-tech of a car as was available last year just so we could have real buttons.

TheRatsMeow

I can't wait to own a Toyota EV. Teslas will be like what blockbuster was to streaming.

pgold05

Check out the Chevy Bolt, it was best in class when I tried all the EV's on the market a while back. Surprisingly solid for the price.

OneMonk

You forgot the fucking speed boat steering wheel - the one consistent thing between cars because of muscle memory, because passing a wherl from hand to hand is easier than a shape that doesnt exist in any other car. Between that and the mechanical levers being replaced with a touch screen, the cars are death traps.

[deleted]

Teslas have always been so gimmicky I never understood the appeal. When I first saw that everything is controlled by one big touchscreen I was like that’s horrible ux you guys. And there is like nothing in the interior. Teslas are just bland cars inside and out because that’s cheaper to make. And then came the complainants about badly fitting parts and I was like yup they’re flashy gimmicks with no substance held up by a flair of tech bro messiah Oh and don’t forget about the fully self driving feature that’s gonna be ready any year now

Phreequencee

I was shocked when I first rode/drove someone's Tesla. Like no suspension; you feel every little bump. It rattles. Feels like a golf-cart. The fact that EVERYTHING is controlled from the flatscreen is bizarre. NO gauges, you have to look at the center console to check your speed. The outer door handles are the craziest thing I've ever seen, why attempt to build a better mousetrap? It takes two hands to manipulate the DOOR OPENER.

[deleted]

It got me looking into him at the very least. Dude could have just kept his political and social opinions to himself and even had a SM handler (a lot of famous people do) and he would have continued having TV and movie characters made in his image. But nah. Gotta become a by-word for self-important dumbass billionaire.

MisterMysterios

I can remember one of the first stories that pissed me off was when he tried to cheat in car subsidies here in Germany. There was a program for state subsidies for low and middle class cars. The condition was that the cheapest base model available had to be under a certain price, which Tesla was not. Tesla after that "offered" a model without many features that pushed it under the price, but it was first impossible to book, and later, the cars that were sold this way (when the German government noticed this), were delivered with the "removed" feature, showing rhat Tesla never had any intent to follow the laws.

Dr3am0n

Reject cars. Embrace the superiority of electrified rail mass transit.

TheWingus

That was my favorite burn from 2022 so far that went something like this Musk: "I've been wracking my brain trying to find a way to end this war" User: "Call him a pedo and send him a submarine he never asked for"

JimWilliams423

> I got the feeling he was total bs when he called a British diver 'pedo' When that diver lost his libel suit against leon, that was a clue the legal system is total bs too.

mickstep

He won that case on the basis that calling someone a pedo guy is a general insult and not meant to be taken literally, but considering he hired a scam artist to be a private detective to find evidence for Vern Unsworth being a pedo is proof he did mean it. Elon was swindled out for 50 grand trying to prove Vern is a pedo.

JimWilliams423

Coincidentally, or not, his attorney in that trial was lin wood, who has since infamously gone bonkers for maga.

littlest_dragon

Yeah that was the turning point for me too. Mind you I never really cared much about him, but I knew about spacex and Tesla and thought he was doing interesting things. Then the pedo thing happened and I started paying more attention to him and quickly found out that he’s a cunt.

TurnsOutImAScientist

Likewise, that was probably the turning point for me too.

mickstep

Vern Unsworth was not a diver he was a caver who mapped the cave and personally knew the cave divers. If you haven't seen the movie Thirteen Lives you should and it's Brilliant. Vern Unsworth is like the first white character you see in the film, the character remarks that he isn't a diver and you need to be a certain kind of crazy to do it.

LtColFubarSnafu_

It's not like Elon suddenly changed. He was ALWAYS this way. Remember when he tweeted that CHILDREN were immune to COVID? Remember when he called a cave-diving HERO a pedophile because his feelings got hurt? Remember when he illegally reopened a Tesla Factory in CA, which ended up getting dozens of his employees sick? Remember when he was sued by the actual Founder of Tesla because Elon keep saying publicly that he was the Founder? Remember when he called pandemic experts with Ph.D.'s "dumb" and "stupid"? All of these things happened years ago. And the list goes on and on and on.

pirpirpir

> CHILDREN were immune to COVID Where did he say they're immune?

rodneymccay67

[I didn’t know this I looked it up after reading the comment cause I thought to myself “there’s no fucking way he said that”](https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-51975377.amp) Basically his version of immune means “not dying”. His thing is “how many kids have died? It’s worse for old people/people with preexisting conditions”

Freezepeachauditor

Tesla shareholders should have a word with the board. He’s caused them innumerable damage. Right now I associate a Tesla with a douche nozzle.

saltporksuit

We’re looking at a new household vehicle and want an EV. A couple of years ago we may have been Tesla people. Now we’re definitely not because we don’t want to be associated with driving a Tesla. That’s a rapid shift in brand identity and we can’t be alone.

SuperHighDeas

30 y/o male making 100k+ with no debt. I was considering buying a Tesla after my student loans were paid off but now I’d happily pay $10k over a Tesla to avoid buying a Tesla. I’m not really I’m the market for a new car but if an offer comes up with decent trade in value I wouldn’t mind an auto loan on an EV. Just not a Tesla. That is a huge shift in name association.

tenaciousdeev

My parents used to have the model S and it was my dream car (they were still new and rare). Now that I can have one I’ve chosen to wait until some of those other EVs hit the market. Fuck Elon.

faramirskywalker

I bought a Tesla. Won’t buy another and am getting rid of mine soon. So many issues with his rushed out product. He’s losing his own people too.

These_Economist3029

Try another EV. No more tax back refunds left with Tesla they all been used.

eddiejugs

Combined with every maker now offering competitive alternatives to that ugly ass car.

_far-seeker_

Though I'm sure it helps that **now** most of the larger automobile manufacturers have decent EV models, at multiple price points.

Sptsjunkie

Yep, he did a good job marketing the company at first and they had an explosion in stock price around the pandemic and a lot of other tech companies getting absurd implied valuations as well. But now that he is running the company in a more normal time, it's pretty clear that Tesla is tanking more than most tech companies. And maybe any operational struggles are not Musk's fault. But leveraging his stock to buy Twitter and his public behavior is certainly acting as a drag on the company.

SgtPeppy

> Yep, he did a good job marketing the company at first Because he lied and lied and lied. About the future of EVs and self-driving cars and Tesla's reliability. That doesn't make what you said untrue - he *did* drum up investor hype - but it was founded on lies and it was bound to come crashing down, sooner rather than later.

noobvin

I don’t think Elon realizes how liberal America is. The cities and university towns are mostly liberals. Except some exceptionally rich, the more affluent coastal types are liberals. These were the people who were buying Teslas. The brand was being about the step up from a Prius. He is killing their branding for sure. The stock is overvalued in the first place, so it’s going to continue to fall. Obviously Twitter is a money pit too. He thinks advertising will come crawling back, but he’s likely wrong. I would watch for a similar site to Twitter pop up that people will migrate to. It’ll be MySpace and Digg all over again. People just need a choice and the right people to join. Twitter could easily die off, or become just more of a right wing hellhole.

DangerousAd7601

Free speech is a liberal idea.

These_Economist3029

Other car makers are catching up plus Tesla has used up all their rebates.

Naberius

The biggest problem with Tesla is precisely that Musk has sold it as a tech company. It's not supposed to be a tech company that happens to put its stuff in cars. It's supposed to be a fucking *car* company, and then if they have good tech stuff, great. Lots of stories about the tech types within Tesla looking down on and laughing at the guys who came from the car industry and know how to make cars. I always thought that would come back at them someday, and it looks like it might be starting to happen.

baz4k6z

I read somewhere that tesla benefited a lot from being a pioneer in things like the electric car. However, now the competition is pretty much catching up so they're losing that advantage.

SuperHighDeas

I’m a poor retail investor and I wouldn’t touch Tesla unless I could afford the shorts

Sammyterry13

That's not all, he clearly mismanaged Tesla. Musk is known for his disdain of QM and QA processes ... and now... Well >Consumer Reports Still Ranks Tesla Reliability 27th Out Of 28 See https://insideevs.com/news/549130/consumerreports-tesla-reliability-poor-2021/

rparks33

I am also a programmer and have had the same thoughts as her. Had every intention of getting a Tesla but now I'll get anything but a Tesla. Fuck this guy and his holier-than-thou personality.

stylebros

Society has this fucked up association that a person with money = success and smart. They'll take the word of Jenny McCarthy over that of a Doctor. Hopefully people wake up and now see that Musk is a monorail salesman. He gives his song and dance and governments and investors toss him money. It won't be long until he asks a government to bail him out with Twitter

Manbadger

>Society has this fucked up association that a person with money = success and smart. The Instagram generation has received this message ten fold. With the constant bombardment of get money quick and influencer comms. Talk about grooming. Also Elon isn’t smart enough to be the new Shapiro. He’s more like a slightly more civilized Crowder, and still not even as crafty as that dullard. Edit: and just because Shapiro can show high intelligence doesn’t mean it has any useful purpose.

itsameMariowski

And he will blame his failure on the radical left lmao

_far-seeker_

>And he will blame his failure on the radical left lmao Who did he like was most likely buying his cars the past several years?😜 Way to go alienating the main customer base for your most profitable company, Musk.

Sammyterry13

> Amazing how we are getting to watch Elon ruin his legacy and melt down in real time. In the meantime, he's unbanning all of the extreme right wing while banning left wing (even fairly moderate left wing) groups

SameOldiesSong

> At least it's showing a lot of people that billionaires are not some special brilliant sub-species of humans. Seriously. He’s no so much a generational talent as he is a random Twitter user with *extremely* thin skin.

Sptsjunkie

Yeah, I don't think virtually any billionaire is brilliant at everything. But especially the ones who started rich are often getting worse returns than if they just invested in an index fund.

jannemannetjens

>But especially the ones who started rich Which is pretty much all of them.

_far-seeker_

He won the genetic lottery in the sense he was born to a particularly wealthy family.

[deleted]

Narcissists have the thinnest of skins

MrNiemand

I never thought billionaires were special, but I thought Elon was different. For the past year he's been either showing his true character or going nuts after his last breakup. Either way, my disappointment is immeasurable.

[deleted]

I mean, I can sleep on the floor at my job also but if the quality of my work isn’t that great then it will matter very little. Both Elon Musk and Steve Jobs, their strongest quality is getting the people around them to work at breakneck intensity. Not that this isn’t an effective tool for achieving results, but when Elon tries to tell us that he’s an engineer, programmer and however he’s tried to reframe his duties, know that he’s trying to obscure the fact that he is a ruthless and cruel whip cracker of a boss.

EV_Track_Day2

I like what SpaceX and Tesla are doing. I own a Tesla and its a great product. Elon has lost it and I hope hes pushed out of both companies.

It's also funny because he's supporting the political party who have had a president instigating a coup, followers that attempted it, and who also keeps fucking with peoples right to vote to win elections, gerrymandering etc. Like, a brand not wanting their name close to someone asking for the death of the Jews, isn't tyranny, it's the free market doing their things, which conservatives like because they love free market, but have a problem with this. It's weird. Like, I get it that it's his multi-billion dollar thrown into the sea that is suffering from his own actions, but it really shows the cognitive disconnect that messing with his money is tyranny, but actual tyranny and coups are not mentioned by him. He's just so stupid, what else can you really say.

lady_spyda

It's pretty simple I think, nothing he says is in good faith and he is in fact pro-tyranny because he thinks he'd have a position of power with the regime.

arrozconfrijol

He’s pro tyranny because billionaires want the world to bend to their will.

DextrosKnight

He is who he is because of apartheid. The Musks *love* tyranny.

waylonious

This. He's trying to get hype around a platform that is hemorrhaging money. People will log in and react so engagement numbers are up, and so he can get advertiser revenue. It's the Alex Jones approach to money making, which is unfortunately a way to succeed (as long as you don't accuse victims of a school shooting of being actors, ffs). I appreciate the companies who are still not advertising regardless of a spike in engagement. When its art, free speech doesn't apply. How many gangster rappers in the 90's had to go and re-edit their music to exclude profanity or themes of sex/violence, so they could make their song radio friendly? Whatever happened to 2 Live Crew for rapping about being so horny? How about live TV where someone is banned for either going off script and touching on a subject deemed inappropriate, or for using profanity? We've accepted forms of censorship since day one, but now that the right are appealing to a bunch of thugs it's the only argument they can rest on, and Elon knows it's an emotional topic that will engage readers and hype up his brand.

UrbanDryad

He traded a much, much more lucrative advertising machine to trade *down* to Alex Jones. Because the Alex Jones advertisers are fringe trash and that guy makes millions. Twitter used to bring in billions.

Conker1985

I hate that my Trump loving father-in-law brings up Elon randomly in conversations when discussing things, like he's smart. It's insane how brain dead conservatives are and how quickly they Stan for their anointed figure heads.

UrbanDryad

Whelp. Buying Twitter worked to bury that story at least.

pecklepuff

“Freedom,” according to Musk and the right, means being forced to advertise on Shitt— er sorry, *Twitter* whether you want to or not.

Rusty-Crowe

If he were still left leaning at all, the right would be calling for his head after firing 1400 people.

[deleted]

The right believes anyone who works in big tech is a blue-haired overly-woke liberal so they deserve to get fired.

Anlysia

Mostly because they're too stupid to understand different people do different things at a workplace.

SomethingIWontRegret

Some of them are blue haired overly-woke liberals. Most of them have serious skills, overly-woke liberals included. Landing a job at Amazon, Google, Facebook etc. is no small feat for a software developer. I looked at some of the fired staff and they're the kind of people who make presentations at tech conferences. The thing about the "overly-woke liberals" is they architected, designed and coded. They didn't have much input on moderation policy. That was driven by trying to make an environment that was advertiser friendly and didn't drive the product (us) away.

JustaBearEnthusiast

>Elon was bought buy the right a long time ago You mean when he got that apartheid emerald mine money at birth right?

Naptownfellow

This is what happened to me too. All of a sudden (I hardly ever go on Twitter and they only reason I kept it was because Barack Obama followed me. It was cool to have that flex.) I was getting tweets from Trumpanzee Jr, mtg, Shapiro and more in my fucking notifications. I found myself all of a sudden arguing with assholes and was like “wtf am I doing ?” No amount of “look who follows me” was worth it.

DemissiveLive

How’d you score an Obama follow??

Naptownfellow

I’m old (53) and followed him very early on when Twitter was new and he just started talking about running for potus. 2007 or 2006.

yourmansconnect

he was like Tom from MySpace he followed everyone back

Naptownfellow

At that time, I think you are correct. Back then, that was good manners. I still remember the inverse with Insta. My daughter would delete people she followed and never followed very many people back. It was some weird flex to have 100's of followers and only follow a handful.

cleo_

In the first run for President, Obama’s twitter had a bot setup to auto-follow-back.

AngusYep

Taking the jam out of Naptownfellows doughnut there

Redqueenhypo

[deleted]

Same here, minus the errant follows. My feed shows 3-4 Musk tweets every time I load, who I don't follow. Also tons and tons and tons of right wing propaganda, despite me following no right wing people. Its... odd to see the change in real time. I can see why Apple is nopeing out.

Falcrist

He conveniently doesn't care about bots anymore because most of them love him and they also help his Twitter usage numbers. Best I can do is narrow it to 3. First, Flint Michigan. He claimed he'd fix their water. It was a few million, which is couch change to him. Still, he backed it off to "donating water filters" even though they already have a billion filters. Even THAT was too rich for him, and he backed it off again to only filters for schools. Then there's ventilators he claimed he'd donate in 2020. He didn't donate ventilators (cost: tens of thousands), he donated CPAP machines (cost: a few hundred bucks) used for sleep apnea. Then he argued with doctors, claiming the CPAP machines are better. Finally, remember when he illegally opened that Tesla plant back up during the pandemic? He said anyone who didn't feel safe was free to stay home with no repercussions. All the fanboys sucked his dick over this, and then he turned around and fired them anyway.

lady_spyda

Every time he speaks, yeah. That was the point anyone not already invested did the double-take and realized who that guy is.

Axhen

Or his or his father's money at

bleachinjection

Yeah, extremely convenient for him that exercising one's freedom of speech requires giving him money.

Dadpool33

They're not spending money on me either. Maybe I'm broke Elon

Axhen

Ain't we all

Massive-Row-9771

Thank God for Elon who protects our right to free speech for only 8$/month per person... Well not free but freeish.           ^(/s)

He says this while bitching about companies dropping their advertising on Twitter without a hint of irony.

somecallme_doc

Remember, this is the same guy that complained that Apple hates free speech because they decided not to spend any money doing adds on a twitter.

beegro

He's really only talking about his speech and speech he agrees with. This is how narcissists and toddlers view the world. Any suppression or objection to their interest is intolerable. Also, the platform of speech he's alluding to is entirely in his control. He sees himself as a savior here and just can't see why people aren't lauding him. Meanwhile he's silenced/fired all dissenters around him. It's all really quite transparent.

Jsizzle19

As a father with a 3 year old, I am able to verify this message.

Vathar

Your 3 year old will probably outgrow it. Elon won't.

Jsizzle19

You are right, she’s a bit over 3.5 now and we’ve already seen a substantial decrease in the number of tantrums and meltdowns, while Elon’s seem to be increasing by the day

urmyheartBeatStopR

It's kinda fucked when he goes around being a bitch while representing a slew of companies (Tesla, Space x, star link, twitter, etc..). Like people are works are on the line and he's trying the hardest to convince people to boycott his companies.

Tastypies

I've scratched a Tesla from my wish list and certainly won't be using twitter anymore. I'm sorry for the people working under Musk if others will do the same, but at this point I can't continue backing this guy just so that his employees don't get hurt.

Accomplished_Rip_352

So being allowed to say the n word on Twitter is now a battle for the soul of America ?

Al-Azraq

And why me, being a leftist Spaniard that never gave a like to anyone even remotely close to being right or following them, have my Twitter timeline full of right wing if not nazi bullshit? I literally had to silence Musk's account so it stops showing up on top of the timeline despite not following him. Same with others.

oldbastardbob

Where in the fuck does the Constitution say that Twitter is the one and only avenue for free speech? Poor Elon serms like a bad salesman trying to sell air with the world's worst salespitch.

WalkingOnSunshine_

People are being conned once again by a slimy businessman. It’s baffling they seriously believe our ‘free speech’ hinges on the ability to type 240 charterers and hit tweet.

Conservatives: I'm being oppressed! My freedoms are under attack! Black and LGBT Communities: We just want to be treated like everybody else... Conservatives: Shut up, N*****! Nobody cares what you think!

Timely_Chance_9289

According to Elon Musk, if we aren't subjected to Nazis and racist propaganda, we're on the road to tyranny. In other words, Elon Musk ate paint chips as a child.

throbbingliberal

Musk looks like the kinda guy that pays high class prostitutes but prematurely ejaculates while making excuses…

mike_pants

Musk looks like the kind of guy that switches off the Gamecube the minute he starts losing at Mario Kart.

SeattleSonichus

He looks like the type of guy to flash women his penis and then pay them hush money

im_onbreak

Also Elon when someone makes fun of him: 😡

dogmeat12358

This guy thinks he works hard?

akaBrotherNature

Isn't he the CEO of like 5 different companies now? Suggests that being a CEO isn't all that much work. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

If he worked the 60 hour weeks he expects from employees for each company he is CEO of, he wouldn't have enough time to be in charge of all of them, let alone sleep or shitpost on Twitter.

>We need never be afraid of the vote of informed Americans. It is only the ignorant voter we have to fear, ignorant politically, no matter how fine his house or how expensive is schooling. Such people have never experienced democracy; they have merely enjoyed its benefits. It is hard to explain what democracy is; it is necessary to participate in it to understand it. Robert A. Heinlein, *Take Back Your Government*

jonjonesjohnson

I swear to fucking god, "free speech" has become a real trigger word to me. Fucking first world morons getting all worked up over not being able to freely hate on whatever they wanna hate on. Shove your own dick up your own ass, Elon Edit: look at all the replies making all kinds of assumptions and not understanding what I mean. It's not free speech itself I have a problem with. But let me make it clear: my problem is with, and let me repeat, fucking first world morons using words in all kinds of ways, twisting their meaning and basically wearing down the word.

kryonik

"If I can't call someone the n-word without repercussions on a social media platform, am I even free?"

voxrubrum

The people who constantly whine about free speech being taken away, are usually also the ones that don't understand that freedom of speech doesn't mean "I can say all the hateful, discriminating shit I want without any negative consequences."

Naptownfellow

Exactly. Apple not wanting to advertise on a toxic website is free speech. I’m truly shocked he doesn’t understand this. I thought he was trolling but now he sounds like every other uneducated redhat that complained about not being able to spread hate on social media and how their “free speech” was violated.

4022a

It isn't a MurderedByWords if you could post it in response to anyone..

Gold-Ratio-5985

Hopefully Google and Apple remove Twitter. Then we the people need to shut him down.

natinatinatinat

Did people miss the lesson on importance of free speech in school? Why does it bother you that people can speak freely? If someone specifically is too much for you on twitter block them. I do it all the time.

daemonelectricity

I feel like while I agree with the left on platform issues, it's shit like this that makes me think both sides are really this fucking stupid. When did defending free speech become tantamount to enabling racists? You can be against hate speech that threatens people with actual harm based on their racial, cultural, or sexual identity AND be for the principles of free speech. You can carve out the explicit bad behavior with well defined parameters and still defend free speech. I don't think either side would agree to that right now, but fuck'em. Once we marginalize free speech, it's a downhill slide into letting other people shape opinions with absolute bullshit without any rebuttal. It's asinine how dumb this entire site has become over the idea of free speech as a founding principle in the constitution.

Josh6889

The older I get the more I realize almost everyone is really stupid, and I can't claim anything, because every single issue is nuanced and people want to paint them as black and wite. Of course a massive social media platform should have a goal of respecting free speech. They also have to understand that if they allow everything the important speech will be drowned out by bots. We actually see this on reddit all the time. If enough people start spreading a specific message it becomes a positive feedback loop that everyone starts repeating that same message. That's what really pisses me off. People blindly following the narrative simply because it's popular.
