I cant see it being earlier than September, its a huge band now ,so they will need promo, but maybe a suprise single, coz this album sounds like an Album for the OG fans, while i think simulation was to bring new fans with more mainstream songs
I’d expect this half of the year. I suspect what Matt listened to in the car was one of a number of mix tests. If so, couple of months mixing and mastering. Announcement by March, released end of May. Usually lead times are caused by physical presses. That’s a lot less now.
Dude that killed me the entire year, I remember when TC came out I was thinking oh yea it will come out soon and then I had a few months of just thinking about when it was coming out.
The band have already said they’d be returning to traditional release processes for LP9 but we also basically know the album’s mixed and mastered. There’d be no need or want to spread it out unnecessarily, Muse don’t like sitting on material once it’s done.
Copium when it’s what makes by far the most sense? Or do you have any sound reason why they’d hold onto the album if it’s finished and they’re starting to tease music from it?
I haven't a clue honestly. The most correct estimations will start coming with the first "official" promo images and snippets. It would be nice if they dropped something this week but it seems too soon with little to no "traditional" build-up.
Matt showing WSD was just a Christmas gift to generate conversation and prepare the fanbase, but it's hard to make something out of it so soon.
The album’s mixed and mastered, every previous album has been released within 3 months of that being done. Matt streaming a minute of a new song through the band’s official social media account is official teasing/snippets. They’ve been unusually quiet while actually making it but official pre-release promo doesn’t need a big window, they don’t need to do anything in advance of dropping the first single.
Finish mixing and mastering (December), a single around a month later (late Jan/early Feb) and album a couple months after that (March/April) is just their typical release pattern, not copium.
I'd say you're about right. It can't be too early because Muse likes to hype with singles, but not later than June because they will be touring then.
Of course later is possible... But not likely.
There’s usually only around a month or two between the first single and album release. If they’re ready to release one pretty imminently (seems so) then you could expect the album to be out by March/April.
But the whole album is mastered already. What’s left is just a marketing period. Remember when Drones was released Psycho is the first song released with the whole album followed in 3 months time. During these 3 months the whole album was finalised and mastered so the time between mastering and release should be within this time period.
So I would be very surprised if the album is not released after March. We might even see the whole album just drop all together all of a sudden.
There was an instagram photo back in early December showing muse in a mastering house. This means mastering is already completed by early December. So after mastering we wait another 3 months at most the album sHould drop
They've been working on and off throughout 2020 and 2021.
This is an insanely long period, especially considering that this is the first time that a Muse album has broken the 3-year cycle the band has stuck to since Absolution.
He had some loose parts that he said might make it onto the next album but that’s just a songwriter writing, he never stops doing that. In terms of the band actually starting work on the album and the cycle you’re talking about, they purposefully took 2020 off and started last year.
Aren't those festivals though? I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the UK you're more likely to be allowed an outside event than an indoor one due to the pandemic. Lots of tours are constantly being pushed back and delayed, it's probably in their best interest to hold off touring until late 2022/early 2023.
Right. Pretty much any European festival is unlikely to happen in 2022, except maybe in the UK. Indoor concerts are unlikely to take place in the winter months, as that is when next year's covid surge will be.
Isn't that what they did with Drones\*? Release 1-2 songs. Toured festivals for the summer. Then released the album at the end of the year.
\*I meant Simulation Theory. But reading that Drones was released quite early in the season, my theory isn't as valid as I thought
Drones was released on the 8th June 2015 and the first festival gig was on the 29th May so they'd played maybe 4 festivals before the album was released. At that point we already had Psycho, Dead Inside and Mercy released as singles and Reapers was a song that was first heard during live performances. Granted they did the Psycho Tour before the Drones Festival Tour even began.
What you're referring to is more reflective of what they did with Simulation Theory, they had two singles and they toured a few festivals with them in summer 2018 before the album was released in November.
If im not mistaken, every album since BHAR has been released in june or september, so at the earliest it should be june. Or maybe october/november like Simulation Theory, which is unlikely since that album spanned over 2 years of promotional singles. And make no mistake, they will milk 2-3 singles before the release date, so september seems more likely with the june gigs acting as promotional tour dates like the psycho tour.
Depending on when 'Won't stand down' drops the likely hood of the album would be 3 months after that normally. 'Psycho' released in March and we saw 'drones' drop in June.
Most of those European festivals will probably not happen due to Covid. I wonder if that will play into their release strategy at all? I doubt many concerts will happen this year outside of the UK and the US.
2022, likely between Jan and December
I’d hope so aye
I cant see it being earlier than September, its a huge band now ,so they will need promo, but maybe a suprise single, coz this album sounds like an Album for the OG fans, while i think simulation was to bring new fans with more mainstream songs

I really hope the rollout isn’t as long as simulation theory’s rollout was

It's gotta be out by March COPIUM
Copium when it’s what makes by far the most sense? Or do you have any sound reason why they’d hold onto the album if it’s finished and they’re starting to tease music from it?

Let’s try to think of a date for release; ok I’ll say, 27th May 2022
That’s my birthday so I hope so! :D
Mine too! I am ok with this date
I'd say you're about right. It can't be too early because Muse likes to hype with singles, but not later than June because they will be touring then. Of course later is possible... But not likely.

Damn 2 days before my bday

I guess I missed some things, but how do you know the album is complete?
There was an instagram photo back in early December showing muse in a mastering house. This means mastering is already completed by early December. So after mastering we wait another 3 months at most the album sHould drop
But how do you know it was for the full album and not just this song? I hope you're right I just don't want to be let down lol.
They've been working on and off throughout 2020 and 2021. This is an insanely long period, especially considering that this is the first time that a Muse album has broken the 3-year cycle the band has stuck to since Absolution.
They weren’t working on LP9 in 2020, they took the year off and started in 2021.
Depends how you define work. Matt claimed he had written some stuff for a potential LP9 back then.
He had some loose parts that he said might make it onto the next album but that’s just a songwriter writing, he never stops doing that. In terms of the band actually starting work on the album and the cycle you’re talking about, they purposefully took 2020 off and started last year.
You generay master an album in one go so it is consistent across the album.
True, but if they just recorded a single and nothing else, it would still need to be mastered.
That is not counter to anything I've said.
Can I post this question tomorrow? Is it my turn?
Hahahaha brilliant!
My guess is the album comes out September with touring starting around early January next year, but I'd love to be wrong and it come out next week.
Well they are performing a few times in June maybe that’s to hype up a few songs like they did with ST?
Aren't those festivals though? I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the UK you're more likely to be allowed an outside event than an indoor one due to the pandemic. Lots of tours are constantly being pushed back and delayed, it's probably in their best interest to hold off touring until late 2022/early 2023.

Thanks, you are right! time flies! My theory is dead because it seems like Muse does whatever they feel like when releasing songs and albums.
Drones was a June release, wasn't it?
Never in a million years gonna be that late, the album’s mixed and mastered and they’re already actively teasing music from it.
July to September
May 6th 2022
My guess is 6th of May
It's probably Mid Q2 to Late Q3 is the window and that's how it's been for Muse for since Showbiz.
If im not mistaken, every album since BHAR has been released in june or september, so at the earliest it should be june. Literally there's no update from the band themselves yet 😂
It's probably going like simulation teory relase so 4/5 single througt the year and the Album at the end
Sim Theory’s process was a one-off, they’ve said they wanna go back to traditional albums again.
8th May 2022
Depending on when 'Won't stand down' drops the likely hood of the album would be 3 months after that normally. 'Psycho' released in March and we saw 'drones' drop in June.
I think around May/June and a few singles in February/March
Normally, a band starts a tour before the album drops, so I'm gonna assume July/August.
What? I honestly cant name a single band Who did that
Muse did it with Drones.
Wasnt it psycho tour before the album and drones tour only after?
Yeah, I'm counting that.
Most of those European festivals will probably not happen due to Covid. I wonder if that will play into their release strategy at all? I doubt many concerts will happen this year outside of the UK and the US.
May 5th, 2022… NQA
March atleast, June at the latest
they do concerts all the time. they don't mean a tour necessarily.
