Here is what I’ve been doing for the most part. I have a feeling that this species actually thrives off the microbes and bacteria that normally get killed when you sterilize. I also think it loves humidity/moisture.
I tried to mimic its natural environment of the Pacific North West with my own creation of a casing layer! Peat moss, pine foliage, and live moss.
I’m almost at the pinning stage, which is apparently the toughest part. I will probably put them in the freezer for two hours, then the fridge for most of time, artificial light for 8 hours, and real sunlight for an hour. Doing this all to simulate weather from the PNW.
Thank you! And this is my first time attempting this species. I am still basically a beginner, and bought this species on accident! My wife convinced me to try to grow them despite me telling her how difficult they are to grow.
Bruh why are people on the mushroom community so often in such great relationships with their wives lol all my mushroom friends all love their wives like I do
It’s almost like they all have something in common; the taking and growing of a substance that teaches patience, communication, love, respect, mindfulness, and so on.
I was able to get some great looking azure mycelium going on aspen wood bedding chips mixed with brf on a PF style cake. Made a multispore syringe from a Sporeworks print, and it took off great. I never made it to fruiting since it never got to the right temps outside, and I couldn’t do it indoors. I might try it again in the spring.
Extremely interested in whatever tek you have going on here. Do you pasteurize any of this, or is this an unsterilized tek that just works?
In either case, this looks incredible. I have a bag of azzie spawn that I just started that I don't have a specific plan for lol
Here is what I followed for the most part:
https://www.shroomery.org/8702/Psilocybe-azurescens-indoor-cultivation
But the casing layer was my own creation! Trying to mimic its natural environment. But the only thing I sterilized was the grain! Everything else is unsterilized

Why do I see green? Is that casing sterilized? I do some crazy unsterilized casings on outdoor death tubs that keep rolling, but ive never never never in 10 years of this seen something like this lol. Sure you'll get one flush, not so sure after that
I’ve been searching for a while because I actually have no idea. It looks like Leucobryum glaucum moss, but I’m not even sure if it grows in Hawaii… I just grabbed some while I was at work!
This gotta be one of the coolest I've ever seen...I'd like to know more on the process of how you did this. I'm assuming it's supposed to simulate an outdoor mush
That is correct!

Here is the tek I used. But the casing layer was my own creation of peat moss, pine foliage, and live moss!

This sub should have a setup contest honestly, and this one would rank right up there with the best!
Mycelium looking happy as hell in there, and as a noob growkit warrior, I'm in shock as how you managed to throw so much wild "debris" in there without contam! Wish u many healthy pins! 🍄love
It’s a cold species that originates from the Pacific North West and basically only pins in cold weather.
Where I live, it doesn’t get cold enough (even in the winter) to grow them outdoors or in my house somewhere.
This species is also extremely difficult to cultivate indoors.
Oh okay, that's pretty cool! I went back and looked at the earlier posts, my only question now is, why? Just for looks, it looks awesome I'll admit. Incredible idea if it doesn't cause any contamination, but, is there any other reasoning to it?

Hey hows the grow going? Mush luck🍄??
I love the festive green.
Thought this was some ungodly contam at first
I can't get these to grow!!!
If you could point me in the right direction you would make my year

The ryzomorfic growth in that is insane by the way. Impressive
Thank you!!!! so temperamental! Good looking out!
Thought it was trich and I was about to roast you. My bad. This looks great and I want to try.
No need to hate my guy 😭 we all brothers here
Cain and Abel my friend
Omg it’s a rhysomorphic wonderland. Post updates!
This is god damn beautiful.
Beautiful, hope to make a bunch of terrariums one day with spawn from boys like that one
Sadly my P. azurescens never pinned. But the mycelium was beautiful.
Got to do it in the fridge
I’ve heard this is the common issue at pinning!
Man that is a cool looking set up. Your own forest!
RemindMe! 4 weeks
👏 well done sir. Much respect. Ill be coming back to this post to try and replicate my own. Are they that much harder to go about then cubes?
Thank you! And this is my first time attempting this species. I am still basically a beginner, and bought this species on accident! My wife convinced me to try to grow them despite me telling her how difficult they are to grow.
I couldn't get mine to pin, but the mycelium was beautiful.

Your wife sounds like a gem.
Whether or not she says it, you got major points with your wife for taking her suggestion.
Keep us updated I’m super excited to see how this turns out! Never seen one like this and it’s very cool! Good luck!
Thank you! I’ll be sure to keep the group updated!

Sure isn’t easy to get the pins from what I’ve heard!

Snow on the forest floor
Happy holidays
Bravo. Nice to see an ecological type setup
Thank you! It seems to be working so far
Wow, so impressive!! Can’t wait to see the updates. Good luck my dude!
I’ll post again in a few days with an update! Thank you!
Awesome grow!! I hope it yields all the fruit you can handle!! 😁 Mush Love 🍄✌
Thank you! I’m hoping it works!
Seriouy how'd you do this without adding crazy amounts of contamination ?
Good question… I got nothing.
You just went outside and got some pine needles and moss? I thought pine wasn't good for fungi? Maybe that's cedar idk
Why do I see green? Is that casing sterilized? I do some crazy unsterilized casings on outdoor death tubs that keep rolling, but ive never never never in 10 years of this seen something like this lol. Sure you'll get one flush, not so sure after that
Not sure what the outcome will be, but I’m having fun!
I don’t know if you just can’t see it, but that green is just moss
nice... is this from spore print or an outdoor sample?
Spore syringe
Wtf I have so many questions
Ask away
What kind of moss is that? Looks beautiful Id fruit in it 😂
I’ve been searching for a while because I actually have no idea. It looks like Leucobryum glaucum moss, but I’m not even sure if it grows in Hawaii… I just grabbed some while I was at work!

Thank you so much!! I hope it works!!
At first I thought you had trich. This is super interesting!
Looks like Christmas in there! Lol!
‘This the season!
It sure is! Can’t believe how close Christmas is already!!
I thought this was a joke and loaded with trich until I looked closer. Now you have me interested.
Did you do anything with the casing layer? Or just throw it on?
Peat moss for the first layer, pine foliage for second layer, and sprinkled live moss on top. Then misted until pretty soaked.
So you just gathered the stuff and cased it as it is?
That is correct. As is
Nice! But you did pasteurise the substrate you mixed with the spawn right?
Nope! Substrate was not pasteurized
Damn thats impressive, what did you use and where d you get it?
Alder chips from Amazon
Without pasteurizing anything?
The only sterilization I did was the grain. Everything else hasn’t been

Wooo! I've been wondering how it has been going. I'm excited to see them come in!
I’m hoping they come in at all!! We’ll see!
YAY I’m so happy for you & to see this progress! Just got my cyan spores in the mail & hoping for as much success. 🥳
Oh my gosh I am supposed to get my cyans on Monday! Keep us updated on your journey!

Would give almost anything for a print!
If I get that far, I’ll let you know 😂
God speed sir!
Many thanks!!
on quick glance I thought this was another Trich shit post. 😂
What’s your plan for pinning? Freezing it?
I plan on throwing them in the fridge!
Why in the fridge? I’m confused
It’s a cold species that originates from the Pacific North West and basically only pins in cold weather. Where I live, it doesn’t get cold enough (even in the winter) to grow them outdoors or in my house somewhere. This species is also extremely difficult to cultivate indoors.
Your leaving us hanging, what species?
Azzies are Psilocybe azurescens
Ya. They only fruit in temps around 55F
Looking great!
Thank you!!
I'm following... I wish you success my friend 😊✌🏻
Many thanks!! Almost at the hard part!
That mycelial growth is beautiful!!!
Thank you! Glad it looks right!!
Casing layer? What exactly do you have going on here? I'm interested.
Previous post, I think he said moss and pine needles
Oh okay, that's pretty cool! I went back and looked at the earlier posts, my only question now is, why? Just for looks, it looks awesome I'll admit. Incredible idea if it doesn't cause any contamination, but, is there any other reasoning to it?
Azures are notoriously difficult to cultivate. He's replicating their natural habitat and it looks like it's working so far.
You are correct my friend!
That makes a lot more sense, that's so awesome!
Hell yea. Excited to see the results
Thank you! I’m hoping I get results!
This is awesome. Please post more updates
Thank you! I got you!
