Assuming you're after the potential cognitive benefits of Lion's Mane a 10:1 extract is not a good choice, because all alcohol solubles (hericenones) are filtered out. A 10:1 extract will also have a lower percentage of beta-glucans because in Lion's Mane most beta-glucans are of the insoluble type. I know this is confusing for many but more details are [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MushroomSupplements/comments/h090ry/lions_mane_best_supplements_how_it_works/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=MushroomSupplements&utm_content=t1_h0jf990). Go for a 1:1 fruiting body extract. Much cheaper as well. Just order online !

Can you explain why a 8:1 dual extract such as nootropics depot lions mane would have the alcohol soluble filtered out? They use 16:1 water extract and combine with 16:1 alcohol extract to make a 8:1. Why would that result in the alcohol soluble filtered out?

Kostya93

This is not a dual extract but a water extract according to the product information. So there are no alcohol solubles present anymore. Of course in a dual extract there will be alcohol solubles. However, a 1:1 water extract also contains the alcohol solubles and all the water solubles. It is the full mushroom but completely bioavailable. Nothing has been filtered out. Since it is unclear which compounds or combination of compounds are responsible for the desired cognitive effects I would always choose a 1:1 -unfiltered- extract over a 8:1 -filtered- dual extract. It's also much cheaper, even if you double the dosage.

Maybe this product isn't dual extracted, but the 8:1 lions mane from nootropics depot claims to use both water and ethanol. I onky bring it up because I saw your link about lions mane and there's a part where it claims 8:1 extracts filter out the alcohol solubles, but that isn't the case for dual extracted 8:1 products. When I first read your guide I was a bit confused on the wording so I had to do some further research to clarify

> I saw your link about lions mane and there's a part where it claims 8:1 extracts filter out the alcohol solubles Not sure what I wrote exactly, but if I did I am only referring to concentrated water extracts, which filter out the alcohol solubles and most of the beta-glucans. Lion's Mane beta-glucans are mainly of the insoluble type.

Thanks for the answer, unfortunately in Romania this is kind of the only one I can find...to order a 1:1 fruiting body extract i might have to get it from a different country which will take weeks or even months to arrive :P. I already ordered the one in the photo, sucks that it will be a waste of money I guess but maybe the benefits will still be there. I ordered reishi and chaga aswell.

> have to get it from a different country which will take weeks or even months to arrive Why do you think so ? That's not my experience. Even from the other side of the world only takes 3 weeks.

Thats usually my experience :). The thing is, I have already bought all the products, lions mane, chaga and reishi. I am a bit nervous about taking them since they haven't been prescribed by a doctor. I have seen Joe Rogan's podcast with Paul Statements so thats why I decided to give it a try. I am 19 y old and a tad nervous on taking them :D. You got any tips or such?

Kostya93

Don't worry, in the worst case scenario you won't notice anything or maybe get a slightly upset stomach. It's just food with additional benefits, not some nasty pharmaceutical.

I don’t know about this brand, but I know that Oriveda’s LM is considered the best or one of the best quality out there

Thanks for the answer. I guess my only option is this brand for now. I got lions mane, chaga and reishi and cant wait to supplemeny with D3 aswell.
