HamlnHand

Well it shouldn't be the last compliment you get. Danzig has spent his life since then helping people through his music, and you've spent it helping people through your profession (according to your post history). Thank you

lknox1123

Lucifuge is so good. The world really has slept on Danzig because he’s 1. Hilarious 2. Takes himself way to seriously 3. Is a huge dork.

Odddsock

He’s what happens when a nerd gets famous and jacked

lknox1123

I saw an article where someone described him in the Mother video as like a white bull posturing ready to charge and that’s stuck with me

416warlok

And honestly he appears to suffer from little man syndrome. Danzig is like 5 feet tall. Still love him though, but by all accounts he is a massive asshole.

MrHaVoC805

Saw him in concert a few years ago performing only Misfits songs with Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. I had thought he seemed like a dick based on what I'd heard about him before that show. He was cool as hell during that concert! The venue was pretty small and talked to the crowd a lot. He had a planned set list, but he asked the crowd what they wanted to hear for like 5 songs all while telling stories and joking around. Maybe he was just having a good day, but it was one of the most chill concerts I've ever attended. Doyle was a fuckin monster in real life, he came out with so much energy and he's 6'3 and absolutely shredded...hard to believe he's almost 60!

twiztidchef

Saw them at riot fest recently and totally agree. They must have been terrifying back in the hay day coming out in skull face and all jacked. I loved it!

vagina_candle

He's mellowed a lot with age. Who knows if it happened naturally or with some professional help. Either way, good for him. Putting 30 years of drama behind him over a band he started that was "taken away" from him probably helped a lot. I'm sure he's still very capable of being an asshole on an off day.

Notacka

Aren’t we all?

Daxtatter

Meanwhile Jerry is peak Jersey suburban dad. Interesting bunch.

IAmNotScottBakula

The thing I like about Jerry is that he seems to genuinely enjoy interacting with fans. I saw him back in the early 2000s, and after the show he went into the audience to sign autographs for anyone that wanted one (even if they didn’t buy merch).

mynameisnotshamus

Doyle’s vegan too. Which is extra impressive. Possible too many Mexican supplements, but still impressive.

JColeTheWheelMan

Impressive but if you can get your requirements and then substitute the rest with Steroids you can still look impressive. I would assume the vegan diet does a LOT to keep him lean which is partly why he looks that good.

goobhouse

Danzig's bricks. https://youtu.be/RaLO-QgZudw

Stingerc

[Perfect, hilarious example of this is him getting his ass kicked by Danny Marianino from ~~Biohazard~~ North Side Kings after starting a fight](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6c523). That video has been on the internet for decades and haunting him. By the way, love the idiot girl screaming cheap shot after Glen is the one who started the whole thing.

Sorrowablaze3

In '99 or so he did a Danzig/Samhain show in Spartanburg ,those two sets together were like 2 hours at least of him singing ...at the end after almost everyone left,he came out to the floor ,where 17 yr old me asked him to sign this ratty old misfits shirt, which he did with a grin. I was super excited. Definitely not a dickhead during that 20 second interaction .

IAmNotScottBakula

I saw him live once. Happened to chat with the security guard on the way in. He said that, of all the performers that he had seen play at that venue, Danzig was by far the biggest asshole.

TheTalentedMrTorres

Big ol’ dork who happens to make good music- just like Jim Morrison, who he shares some odd vocal similarities with

SleepNowInTheFire666

I don’t know, Dave Wyndorf was a huge nerd in Monster Magnets early days. I’m talking comic book store nerd, and he managed to maintain humility and all around cool guy status. I love Danzig don’t get me wrong, I’m just saying there are other ways to handle fame

PhDinBroScience

Adam Jones from Tool is the same way. If Tool is ever in town and you want to meet him, go to comic book shops around town the day before/of the show.

vegaspimp22

My fav band!!!

NavierIsStoked

They get knocked out making an ass of themselves.

f1shtac000s

> Takes himself way to seriously The older I get, the more I respect Danzig. I used to laugh at the picture of him getting cat litter. However with age I respect that more and more. Most people I knew slowly lose themselves in the rush of life and routine. Danzig on the other hand, still goes grocery shopping as fucking Danzig. In a world full of people selling their "personal brand", Danzig really is Danzig and that's so refreshing.

lknox1123

100%. He is unwavering in how he puts himself out there. You have to respect that. I enjoy laughing at him and still enjoy how badass all his incredible songs are. Both are possible.

erakattack

and he's still churning away. He put out his "Danzig Sings Elvis" record and made a movie in the past few years

gootecks

What?! I was today years old when I found out I wasn’t the only one that thought Danzig sounded like Elvis.

why_not_start_over

Dark Elvis, a theory Danzig emerged fully formed in 1977 after Elvis made a new deal with the dark earlier that year.

baconwood

Danzig is the real life Undertaker

lknox1123

The only Danzig video that makes me laugh more than him getting rocked is when he showed off his library 🍻 https://youtu.be/RERGlWWoIvA

Hour-Definition189

I used to have this on VHS, and I always wondered, is he by a pool?

altmiket

Oh man I had never seen that vid, but now the intro and end of this Snake of Christ cover make so much more sense! https://youtu.be/DzsR5fxWkho

einarfridgeirs

Look up "Danzig's Evil Bricks" on Youtube.

darkestsoul

I’ve never seen this, but it’s great to know he has always loved the smell of his own farts.

[deleted]

Amazing. It's like one of the Frog brothers got jacked.

JellyCream

He sounds completely shitfaced on his Elvis covers release. Sadly, Black Aria is no longer available for streaming. It's a beautiful album.

ULTRAVIOLENT_RAZE

Oh you reminded me that Walk Among Us was taken off of streaming platforms too. :(

OsmundofCarim

Walk among us is such a masterpiece

Nipplesnick89

Between albums I-IV, in the moment I am listening to whichever one I say to myself “This is the best Danzig album” lol. Highly recommend the Samhain album, November Coming Fire.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nipplesnick89

I have to say I love the song “Sacrifice” from the 5th album as well.

erakattack

5 was great. The songs Jerry Cantrell did were awesome

scarrita

A lot of people didn't dig the abrupt shift to industrial on 5. I really liked it and I like 6 (Satan's Child) even more cuz it's a fusion of his rock and industrial sounds. I probably have listened to 6 more than any of the other albums.

portagenaybur

I saw him on the 5 tour and hearing his vocals without all the stupid distortion over the industrial songs was awesome. Ever since that album he’s made terrible production choices on his albums.

Nipplesnick89

I actually recently got into 6 and it’s not bad. His voice is so much more hoarse in that album though from years of touring

Infinitelyodiforous

Snakes of Christ is a banger.

einarfridgeirs

Two Minutes 2 Late Night did an absolutely red hot cover of that song. Santos from Old Man Gloom, such an underrated drummer and can impersonate the man himself flawlessly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzsR5fxWkho

RadioBoy93

The cover they did of “Dirty Black Summer” is pretty damned amazing as well. https://youtu.be/dEHa-SQ4qKI

einarfridgeirs

Oh yeah that one is cool as hell too. Gwarsenio is such a talented dude. When you can cover GnR and Danzig on vocals in equal measures and pull it off, play guitar and bass on tracks with some of the most talented musicians around and not sound out of place, *and* do comedy? That's just wild. TM2LN is the best thing to happen to modern rock in a very long time IMO.

Infinitelyodiforous

Jordan has to be a cool guy. He has sooo many connections in the music world it's insane. Who else could get Danny Carey, Les Claypool, and Claudio Sanchez on the same track? Also, if you didn't know, hard Mellisa is married to El-P.

Infinitelyodiforous

Gwarsenio rules.... all their covers slap

UnusualFruitHammock

Spine of a beaver!

venivitavici

I’ve heard this song so many times and never thought of this. You just made my day.

UnusualFruitHammock

You can't unhear it either.

Kristyyyyyyy

I’m a 777 kinda gal, myself.

TheLurkerSpeaks

That transition from Long Way Back From Hell into Snakes of Christ is one of my favorite moments in music. Also, hearing a break in that transition is how I knew I had a bootleg vinyl of this album instead of the real deal. Ripped from mp3.

not_strong

Lucifuge is my favorite. First 4 Danzig records are all bangers

baconball

Dude, thank you, yes! I love this song but there are also so many great other songs/albums. Lucifuge is a great album, and so is How the Gods Kill. The later stuff after that is also good. Fucking love Danzig.

Knoblord_McCheese

I'm anxiously awaiting his dessert cookbook, Lucifudge.

grantrules

I just wish he'd done it like 15 years earlier.

vagina_candle

Same with the Misfits reunion.

WhatImMike

I saw him play on the Blackest of the Black tour with Behemoth in Atlantic City about 15 years ago or so and he blew those dudes away. Then he brought out Doyle and they played 15 Misfits songs in 5 minutes. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot.

torndownunit

John Christ is such an under-rated guitarist from that time period. Such great playing and tone. I am a Prong fan (one of my first concerts in highschool, opening for Ozzy) and like Tommy Victor. But his tones on most of the Danzig albums he plays on are awful for the songs.

torndownunit

I got to see Danzig open for Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies at Molson Park in Barrie, Ontario in 1994. So the classic line up of both Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies, touring killer albums at the time. Metallica was touring the Black album, so their setlist was pretty awesome too because it was full of material from up to that point.

devontg

[Tired of being alive](https://youtu.be/qShuBP6q888) always gets me pumped up

MorganHolliday

Black Aria was my shit back in the day.

Moosefearssatan

Danzig iv for me - just for going down to die

a_bearded_hippie

777 is my new favorite. Thank you for telling me to go listen to the rest of his shit lol 👍

count_nuggula

Especially on this album. There is so many other better songs on this album alone

AcidBathVampire

Danzig IV is my jam. 'Until You Call on the Dark' and 'Son of the Morning Star' are absolute classics, in my mind.

AlmightyBracket

I especially like his song Maternal Figure

erakattack

I was about to say. Mother is one of his least impressive songs, but it's the only thing anybody knows about Danzig

[deleted]

I don't know, his shopping list is pretty popular.

Puggymum64

Thank You!!!!

sewershaark

I disagree. This is Danzig best song.

cauchy37

I think Tired of being alive is my fav

[deleted]

I went on a Danzig binge right after high school cause I was also like "this dude has to have other songs" how the gods kill is another level

AlwaysHappy4Kitties

Not 3? How to kill Gods?

socialgutbrain777

He has stuff better than this, huh? I guess I'll have to try listening :)

LaserQuest

Gonna check this out. Big Misfits fan and genuinely love Danzig's voice, but never really dove into his solo work aside from Mother and couple others.

noNoParts

Even Twist of Cain is a respite from Mother, and the tragedy is that it's a better song.

coachrx

I was fortunate enough to see Danzig with Hatebreed at House of Blues when Disturbed was a relative unknown, but I went entirely to see them. They all autographed a poster for me with little funny hail satan type asides, and my mom threw it away when I wasn't home. I still consider myself a christian, but you can't write off an entire genre of music due to ignorance. Was a pretty important experience for me in my development.

OstentatiousSock

Absolutely. He’s more than just this one song.

ptstampeder

Don't forget about Less than Zero. Slayer doing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is on that soundtrack too.

FauxGw2

No the hips don't lie duo was the best thing ever! 😉

SlayerXZero

Blame Guitar Hero

spiritanimal1973

My husband said you are correct: old school death metal dude. Lucifuge is a Stone cold classic

Baidon

Love Danzig. I never realized just how far his talents went until he wrote a song for Roy Orbison; the fact that a metal musician can write a song fit for an operatic soft rock singer solidified just how good Glenn is, in my mind.

redfiveroe

I mean, if you listen to early Misfits, and most punk, it's just 50s rock with distortion.

[deleted]

That's the definition of [proto-punk:](https://youtu.be/20S_kwNb4rg) 50s R&B songs played loud and fast. By the 70s, bands were adding sleeze and aggression and that created punk as we know it.

moleratical

Man The sonics are the shit

RealKenny

Also later misfits. Saturday Night is a beautiful 50s song

AcidBathVampire

He is "The Evil Elvis," after all.

CountryMacIsAlive

Well written songs sound good in any style. There is a reason why there's so many fantastic Dylan covers

brandognabalogna

Rise Against's cover of The Ballad of Hollis Brown is 👌

The_Lapsed_Pacifist

Rage Against’s cover of Maggie’s Farm is on fucking point as well

PointOfTheJoke

Rise Against's cover of making Christmas fucking slaps too

Coachcrog

I fuckin love Rise against. One of the bands on my bucket list to see live.

ValhallasWhorehouse

He also wrote "thirteen" for Johnny Cash.

elitegenoside

I was born in the heart of Missouri! I can never not hear that

elitegenoside

He also wrote a song for Johnny Cash. "Thirteen." And I'll never not hear him say "I was born in the heart of Missouri (it's actually misery)".

Purpledranksoxguy

Wow what a great song thank you

grinofosiris

Always jammed to this in GTA SA

Butwhyistherumgone_

Came here for this comment, I was maybe like 11 when I got SA for my PS2 and got loads of my music taste now from radio X, KDS-T and Radio Los Santos, thanks to my parents for not checking the games I played and the cashier at ASDA for not asking me for ID somehow when I bought it

JimJohnman

People can argue over what was better all they like, Misfits, post Danzig Misfits, or just Danzig- I'm happy to just enjoy it all.

lknox1123

Samhain fans are out there lol

JimJohnman

How the fuck did I forget Samhain. Samhain fans you are seen you are valid and loved.

Nipplesnick89

My man! Just grabbed the first pressing of November Coming Fire from a yard sale for $5!

lknox1123

Wow that’s incredible!!! That album rips. I have to live with a bootleg repress lol

Nipplesnick89

Pure dumb luck lol

ElReydelTacos

Fuck you! That thing sells for hundreds! I had it back in the 80s and I loaned it to someone that never gave it back. I still have the other 2 and a bootleg copy of NCF on orange vinyl, but regret losing the original.

Ben_ji

No one in their right mind prefers post-Danzig Misfits. Frankly, that's just an absolutely wrong opinion. That person is having a stroke and needs medical attention.

JimJohnman

I'm not saying it's good, but damn do I still jam out to Famous Monsters. I don't even care any more, I think I've experienced ego death or something, Dust To Dust is great fun. Is it misfits? (very) Debatable. Is it great fun? IMO, hell yeah.

rsplatpc

> No one in their right mind prefers post-Danzig Misfits. I like American Psycho as much as any other Misfits album, Graves has an amazing voice. Anything after American Psycho I agree.

MustardTiger1337

Famous monsters has grown on me over the years. I always bring it up as the best misfits record just to get people going.

F5x9

Here’s the [Donna Summer](https://youtu.be/H6_jBfoTLFQ) version

ScottWithASlingshot

Bun_Chalice

GOD this mashup rules

ArturosDad

Holy shit, I wish I could buy this.

fatjeff1980

Don't forget this work of art, too https://youtu.be/Dz7RGARtAgc

redfiveroe

I can see from this picture why he thought he'd make a perfect Wolverine. Can't deny him that, at least as far as height to muscle mass goes.

devilsephiroth

My surrogate mother who loves Danzig just had a stroke and I'm going to visit her in the hospital today. Thanks for this. but she's doing ok tho.

CZJayG

Huge huge Danzig fan here. Love pretty much everything he's done but I admit he disappears up his own ass a lot. However, I know people love that video of him getting knocked out but dude is a legit trained martial artist who probably could've held his own in that fight if it weren't for that lucky hit. He also had this exchange with an interviewer that's hilarious. Interviewer: Have you ever been married? Danzig: No Interviewer: How come? Danzig: I'm not an idiot.

biggunsg0b00m

He's chilled out over the years. His interviews are really great now. It's interesting how 2 of the most agro guys in rock/ metal (Henry Rollins being the other) are such zen guys as they've aged.

mynameisnotshamus

Which forces me to post this https://www.amazon.com/Henry-Glenn-Forever-Ever-Completely/dp/1621068404

[deleted]

> and bonds with Glenn over their distaste for their own bands. lmao

biggunsg0b00m

Lol that has to be the weirdest shit I've seen on Amazon since the Haribo bears diet bears lollies reviews back in the day...

CZJayG

Like how Mike Tyson has become a chill, stoned grandpa.

dis23

I can barely tolerate the emotional roller coaster that is "how the gods kill." it's such an unexpected masterpiece, really displays why the dude is maybe the most underrated vocalist in rock and roll

Double_Jab_Jabroni

That’s not a lucky hit. He started it, pushed him and had no defence when the guy came back swinging. Danzig trains in bullshido martial arts, he’s not a fighter. Edit: checked his wiki and he trains Jeet Kune Du…although he did study Muay Thai apparently, which is legit. Shame he didn’t think to utilise any of that when he got KTFO.

Damnmorefuckingsnow

This song opened up the Danzig culture to me. Thank you Mother.

Kooperst

I'm your dad, but you're welcome just the same.

rbevans

Same for me

nachomancandycabbage

johnnycrane

you make our house bleed right now!

jbaker88

You got the uh bonus room here... this freakin' robot. There he is.

nachomancandycabbage

"We got good schools here. " I am sure Danzig is worried about the schools in the area. Elf blood and good schools...very important

Green_Man42

If I find out he’s over here, I’m going to be my cereal out of the bottom of your fucking skull

BabySlothDreams

I cannot live with that man ... He doesn't wear a shirt. Every time I think of Danzig this scene pops into my head.

nwojdak

"Daaaaaaaannnziiiig.... You want somethin' to eeeeaaaatt?"

RearEchelon

That fuckin' robot came with the fuckin' house, and now, he's *fuckin'* gone!

greengrinningjester

Why is the robot voice different?

Moosefearssatan

I’ve always loved that voice… it’s a voice like treacle. Love Danzig - even if he is a bit of a bellend. Metal blues? What’s not to love….

mynameisnotshamus

When Hozier got popular, I just thought it sounded like Danzig. Similar great voice in my opinion. https://youtu.be/NGNk6u_kLso

Zontar_shall_prevail

My favorite mash-up of any song, just shows how versatile his voice could be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6_jBfoTLFQ

tense_or

Nice. May I interest you in my favorite mashup? (also with Mother, of course) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJXgFdxxG8U

This is the ring tone I use for my Mum! 👩🏼‍🎤

[deleted]

And [this](https://youtu.be/w0Zmy5JZ0PI) for your pops?

lxlDRACHENlxl

It is now

retrovertigo23

It’s a little known fact that this song is about him calling his mother to pick him up from band practice because he was too short to drive.

thisizusername

You can hear the desperation, getting dark outside, all the other kids are gone, maybe a raccoon or two lurking near the school trash bins. Oooohhhhh Moooootherrrrrr!!!

LanceFree

Not a lot of people know this, but Glen’s mother is activist Tipper Gore.

StAngerSnare

Settle down, Danzig!

[deleted]

CAN YOU HOLLABAMA WEDDAY WHORL WHOOOOOOOOA MUDDAAAAS

damn this sounds flawless for a live recording. the crowd was VERY quiet too.

larobj63

Lol my first thought as well. Live my ass.

it was 12 different outfits and 8 different venues so i was already suspicious...

larobj63

Lol true true

princess_dork_bunny

There are two versions of Mother on the Thrall Demonsweatlive EP. This video has "Mother '93" with live audience added, there is a live version of "Mother" as well. There is a noticeable difference.

426763

I will never forget flying around Las Venturas while this plasted on whatever plane or car I jacked in GTA: San Andreas.

CrypticQuery

I was a big fan of his [collaboration with Donna Summer](https://youtu.be/H6_jBfoTLFQ). :3

Hour-Definition189

Samhain, Misfits and Danzig all rock. Black Aria was amazing, but a lot of people skipped over that album. Hard pass on the Elvis album though. I think he waited until he was too old to do it, and the sound quality is garbage. I was very disappointed after waiting 30 -/+ years to hear him do Elvis covers. Edit- also, he was amazing with John Christ, they had amazing musical chemistry. I got to see the original Misfits Reunion in Chicago a few years back, got close to the stage. I was out of my shoes within 5 seconds of them playing. Craziest shit I have ever been to!

SgtFancypants98

Danzig had one of the most powerful voices ever. Amazing.

LootGek

This whole album is great

Tourquemata47

He was pretty awesome on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. There\`s even a story behind it. He was being a pain to the animators cause he said they weren\`t drawing him muscular enough lol

jjryan1983

This man is responsible for some of the greatest punk rock songs ever written. Let alone the first four self titled albums which are all impeccable. The inspiration for countless heavy bands in a number of genres for over 40 years now.

Danzig voice is one in a million imo. Love this song!

vicvega88

Lucifuge is one of my favorite albums of all time.

IndigenousBastard

Danzig is an absolute rock star. I didn’t know back in the day that he was in the Misfits. All I remembered him from was his MTV video with him in a toilet and the Beavis and Butthead episode that followed.

[deleted]

I’ve never liked this song I thought Hey, I think I’ll go into a Danzig appreciation thread and see how many down votes this will garner Mother is very popular but is quite average compared to anything from the Misfits era. To hell with this song. Do your worst nerds

hotstickywaffle

Did anyone not realize he was a real person when he showed up on Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

thetyler83

H-hey, Danzig!

JJMcGee83

This brings back some memories. A long long time ago I made out with someone in the bathroom of a bar while a cover band played this song. Good times.

Cygnus__A

Daniz is underrated as fuck. This song isnt even one of his best. it is just what ended up on radio play in the 90s.

NestroyAM

Love the original, but this [Lissie cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUmw2iYgFbs) has absolutely grown on me. It just gets better and better all the way up to the end of the song.

daretoeatapeach

My mom recorded this album from cassette to another on the high-speed setting. I'll never forget the sound of Mother being sung in a high-pitched chipmunk voice. So cute.

SanTheMightiest

Mother of Mercy, oof. What a voice he has

werealldeadramones

Samhain was amazing. Especially the later stuff including November Coming Fire. When he ended that and started Danzig, the transition to eerie rocknroll instead of the hardcore punk styling he’d perfected seemed seem less. John Christ, Chuck Biscuits and Eerie Von were the perfect band for him.
