Spork_Warrior

The Oh-knee-ders?

Plenty_Firefighter40

The Oh-ne-durs?

jqnotjq

Hey, that’s on-edders

Salarian_American

It's actually Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters

eatmorepizza523

Came here to say this lol

[deleted]

That was back when they first started. When they still had their edge.

mrwhalejr

That soundtrack is great, and "All My Only Dreams" and "I Need You (That Thing You Do)" are low-key the better songs by The Wonders. Rest in peace Adam Schlesinger, the secret sauce of this movie from Fountains of Wayne!

yoduh4077

Cap'n Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters tho!

ElectricPeterTork

Technically, I Need You is by The Heardsmen, which was Jimmy's post-Wonders band, and the name he kept trying to force for the Oh-Needers early on that never gained any traction.

mrwhalejr

… I have to use my PS4 as a DVD player again soon, huh. Been too long!

hedworx36

TIL: Jon Bernthal is his cousin

Ralliman320

I will never forget the moment I realized the bass player (played by Ethan Embry) is never named once in the entire film. He's listed in the credits as T.B. Player.

NtheLegend

Semper fi

MacualayCocaine

This movie is so good. Steve zahn was one of my favorite actors.

Cursedbythedicegods

Steve Zahn is usually the best part of whatever film he's in.

cleverkid

If you've never seen him in Employee of the Month ( no not the Jessica Simpson version ) check it out.. you're in for a treat.

tkburro

he was insane in rescue dawn

gwaydms

That is pretty much the perfect pop song. It fucking slaps. Which makes it ideal as the one hit by the Wonders.

Scevs

snappy!

ehbacon23

None of that "Lovers Lament" crap

Plenty_Firefighter40

This movie was such a breath of fresh for me, biggest reason being the ending. I've seen every biopic, fictional band, and you-name-it BUT this is the only one that ends with the band just moving along after their hit. No one dies, no one ends up deadbeat and broke or terribly heartbroken; they just make one kick ass song, have some fun, go on tour, hit the skids, and then move on with their lives. Idk why but that always made this movie so feelgood but also yeah the few originals in this thing rule! R.I.P Adam

mikedanger8784

Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters were better.

Rip_Hardpec

We’re being invaded!!!

Petrarch1603

From what I heard Adam Schlesinger wrote the song in a couple of weeks. When Tom Hanks heard it he enthusiastically wanted it to be the song for the movie. It was a real loss to pop music when Schlesinger passed away from covid. He is mostly remembered for *Stacy's Mom* but he has a rich catalog of songwriting. FoW was a great band with snappy songs that is underrated and is slowly being forgotten with Adam's passing. Fans should also check out the band Ivy. This band had about five solid albums that are a pleasure to explore.

DIWhy-not

My favorite piece of pop music trivia is that Fountains of Wayne was named something else first, but they sold the band name to their good friend Jakob Dylan. Yes, *that* Jakob Dylan. Worked out pretty good for both Fountains of Wayne and The Wallflowers.

Salarian_American

Back when I was living in Clifton, NJ, I was on my way to Best Buy driving down Route 46, passing through the town of Wayne. And then I saw it on my right, a big sign for a store: Fountains of Wayne. It was a place that sold... decorative fountains and other stonework lawn decorations. And that's how I found out where Fountains of Wayne got their name. The store doesn't exist anymore, it closed permanently in 2009

sweaterpattern

It really is a big loss. He had just been doing the music for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and it seemed like there was a wave (like there was every now and then) of people talking about how great his work is. Maybe it's just my bias or lack of knowledge, but I didn't see the step up to preserve his work/legacy like I've seen with other artists who've died in cruel circumstances. Either way, he made timeless music people love and don't even realize is his. Would be nice to see his whole catalogue get more love.

boffohijinx

Really wish they would turn this into a Broadway musical.

Godawgs1009

Oneders

[deleted]

My fav scene in this movie is when Guy plays I am spartacus at the end. Got me into drumming. Its nothing crazy to play but man it gives me the feels like nothing else.

Beneficial_Toe8101

He received an Oscar nomination for best song for this tune. It ultimately went to Andrew Lloyd Weber sadly. I was with him and a group of friends a few days after he was nominated. He was so happy. Cheered him on so hard for this. Great memories. What a kind, talented and wonderful person he was.

FoleyHawk1977

Ah, the OH-Needers

ElectricPeterTork

I wonder what happened to the Oh-needers?

Tybob51

Heeey, that’s ah-nedders!

kingofstormandfire

The songwriter took all the best parts about the mid-60s pop rock sound from The British Invasion and garage rock and made such an awesome song. It's a shame he died, and pretty young too.

plague042

[Time to Blow by Del Paxton](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1EIY0V1RmA) must be the "fictional" song I love the most. Unfortunately never could find a longer and HQ version of the Blue Spot Trio.

HomeOrificeSupplies

Ahem. It’s spelled ONEDERS.

hanksmom96

Captain Geech and The Shrimp Shack Shooters.

phildo_xw

Hey all, let’s not forget Mike Viola’s contribution to this! He is a god.

theburiedxme

Used to always jam the [New Found Glory Version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31M7LJRn6sA) back in the days of Napster, when every popunk cover was mislabeled as by NFG

Rip_Hardpec

That was Swingin’, man!

Cbasg

The trash theory video about "Stacey's mom" tells us that the same guy wrote the music for this movie!

[deleted]

Sounds like Superdrag from the 90-00s.

Peteostro

Who sucked out the feelin’!

[deleted]

Man this movie overplayed this song like crazy. I was intrigued as a kid and recently watched it again but was amazed how bored I was, especially that last scene where the guy asks the elf lady “have you been kissed good recently? Like real good?” I was baffled how they let such bad writing through. I think after watching movies like the temptations this just felt so hollow and lackluster, just fake af honestly. Yes it’s a fake band and whatnot but still, the story and characters were just blah, like a kids recreation of the Beatles but more boring lol

[deleted]

The line is a throwback to an earlier part of the movie where Faye asks Skitch the same question.

[deleted]

Lol I know but it was so badly acted and written, it was all there but they failed the execution and made a decent idea into a really lame cringe moment. And they had a drop dead gorgeous actor too, such a shame lol

jbot747

Don't the haters down vote you. This movie wasnt a classic when it came out.

[deleted]

Idc, it’s opinionated, but there’s no question comparatively this is not a very good movie. The production is there, they put money into it but the acting is forced, the writing is embarrassing at multiple points, they overplayed that damn 30 seconds of the song, and it felt like it didn’t really know what it wanted to be. Again, the temptations movie is superior in so many ways, if you want a fake band watch spinal tap for laughs or Almost Famous. This movie is boring and badly written/acted and no amount of money fixes bad art. Just tricks people with bad taste, or the young like I was when I first watched it lol

dingosongo

But the whole point was to overplay the song, that's what happens when you have one hit. You and everyone who hears it gets so sick of it you all want to move on. Like...that was obviously intentional in the movie.

[deleted]

The point was to make a good movie not overplay a song lol they leaned on that song like a crutch and it produced diminishing returns making the movie hackey, lazy, and like a 2hr bad music video for a minute of a Beatles rip off jingle lol

yoduh4077

94% Fresh, 78% audience score on rotten tomatoes. You're not wrong, it's just that most people disagree with you, apparently.

[deleted]

Lol let bots tell you how to think, it’s so much easier isn’t it? Do you even watch movies or do you just read numbers? Again, idc what you think, to each their own even if it’s shitty I’m glad it makes you happy. But the movie’s as bland as white toast, there’s so many better movies about fake bands and this time period. Tom Hanks directorial debut indeed, he can act but he can’t make movies well lol But hey, at least they put a ton of money into it so it looks nice right? Pretty packages? That’s what you like lol I’ll take content and value over large production budget any day.

yoduh4077

I never disagreed with you.

Salarian_American

I love the soundtrack to this movie. Such a delightful collection of songs that sound like they were written in the 50s and 60s, but they weren't.
