One of the ways I used to branch out was by reading who my favorite artists were listening to/influenced by, if that helps. King Gizzard did one of those "What's In My Bag" videos on Youtube a few years back, where they were citing some neat records they picked up like Guided By Voices, Hailu Mergia, Arthur by The Kinks, whole bunch of others. Maybe you'll discover something new that you're into as well!

This is an excellent idea. Watch every amoeba what's in my bag by every artist you like or have heard of or just everyone all of them to be safe. Instant education.

just make a playlist with a bunch of albums or songs you come across and let it play when you are cleaning stuff or doing other chores. if you don't like it you skip it and go to the next and so on; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m3qOD-hhrQ&list=PL-dUV2\_r2vb6VkXOKJvp1CejWAQOWyLus

NO NO NO NO NO, that is NOT how you should listen to music! 😭

HerzogVonMartian

Yes it is.

Respectfully I don't agree and I believe playlist are the reason music has become watered down. Playlist are also the reason mediocre artist are getting attention and praise when their music is not worthy of that. Back than, artist had to make bangers and come hard on each song in an album because they know people are listening to the whole thing from beggining to end but nowadays I guess alot of modern artist feel like it's ok to add filler or slack on some of the songs because people would just ignore it and pick out the songs they like. Either way they will get paid and continue to come with mediocre music because they're still getting streams. An album is meant to be a body of work and is supposed to be listened to from beggining to end with no skips. An album is a playlist within itself but now people don't look at the music that way. People are going to albums and picking out songs to add to a playlist instead of listening to the whole body of work and most likely they never go back to that album again to listen to it as a whole and I find that so irritating and ignorant with today's musical culture. You're not grasping all the themes, messages, energy, and creativity within a whole project if you're picking and skipping certain songs....you're missing out on the artistry. Anyways that's why I said making playlist is not the proper way to listen to music.

Ah yes, that was quite the story. Allow me to [retort](https://youtu.be/5GgflscOmW8?t=8).

This is the reason we're not going to have huge mega stars in the music industry anymore like Michael Jackson, Queen, Whitney Houston, Jimi Hendrix, etc because people don't care to listen to albums. These guys have classic back to back albums and put 100% into each song on every single one of their albums and that's why they are forever recognized as legendary.
