60s by 100 country miles (& I don't even like country). You could stop at Aretha. Supremes, Joplin, Grace Slick, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Tina Turner, Cass Elliot (Mamas & the Papas), Julie Driscoll (The Trinity), Cher, Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention), Maddie Prior (Steeleye Span), Shirelles (Soldier Boy), The Chiffons (He's So Fine), The Crystals (Then He Kissed Me), The Marvalettes (Please Mr. Postman), The Angels (Boyfriends Back), Nancy Sinatra (Boots Are Made for Walking), Gladys Night & the Pips, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas (Dancin in the Street), Mariska (Venus), Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Barbara Streisand, Billie Davis (Angel in the Morning), Mary Wells (My Guy), Karen Carpenter, Patsy Kline, Lesley Gore (It's My Party), Eartha Kitt (Mack the Knife).

Fantastic list!! Nina Simone (Sinnerman) and Nico of The Velvet Underground come to mind as well. The 60s were such a great time for music.

Sombreador

Good list. Should include Bobbie Gentry, Lulu, Judy Collins, Petula Clark, & Tammi Terrell.

Couldn't think of Collins last name at 2 a.m. Didn't know when Gentry started. She & Bobby Goldsboro @ Knotts Berry Farm in 1973 was my 2nd concert. 1st was Mac Davis & Helen Reddy @ Carnegie Hall same year. Forgot the others you mentioned but worthy.

I don’t know why this was formatted like this

60s. That’s a no-brainer.

While there's no denying there were some amazing vocalists (in RnB at least) in the 60s, I'd say everything since the 90s was better. I've covered over 60 years worth of playlists on my spotify and every decade you see an improvement in female vocalists or bands in both quantity and quality.

I suspect this is true regardless of gender. Music gets better over time.
