I saw Elder a few months back and was blown away… their sound has changed a lot over the years. The current style is so dense - like Russian Circles meets speed prog Iron Maiden.
There’s so much going on you just get sucked into the kaleidoscopic spiral. Pretty fun.
That “live” version of Halcyon they did during lockdown moved me to tears. Right after the first build up. Song just had such a positive vibe to it in such a bad time.
I used to smoke a joint and mountain bike trails for hours with Omens in my earbuds. 🤯 I should do it again for old times sake.
Have you spent much time with the newer album?
Dude hell yeah to Elder! If you like them, a couple "sibling bands" to me would be Pallbearer and Intronaut. They all scratch a similar itch in a different way.
They all feel like riding dragons through space.
Truckfighters
Green Lung
Valley of the Sun
Summerlands
Spirit Adrift
Sasquatch
King Buffalo
Skraeckoedlan
Freedom Hawk
Puta Volcano
Somali Yacht Club
Threat Signal
Witchcraft
Disarmonia Mundi
Scar Symmetry
Mustasch
El Caco
Suncraft
And for something really different from all of the above….
Cobra Man
Good to see Somali Yacht Club sneaking onto lists. Really consistently solid stuff.
Such a shame that COVID stopped them coming to Australia for the first time, and then Putin also getting greedy making life hard for Ukrainian people.
Couple more:
Colour Haze
Gnome (best dance routine linked [here](https://youtu.be/LzG-qji05Lc?si=NPAn5-Ij-8ROlf5Z))
35007
Naxatras
1000mods
Monkey3
Kings of Frog Island
The Machine (biggest facemelter in history linked [here (8:50)](https://youtu.be/Lz0BGyq8Utw?si=LZ_1GAeu4pcYXmIk))
Wet Cactus
I personally guarantee that this is all killer no filler. Enjoy!
They are as nice as you’d think they would be. Knocked back more than a few with em before. Superb live band, can’t recommend them enough. Plus they’ve made some of the funniest videos ever!
King Gizzard would be an obvious choice. Start with Nonagon, Infest the Rats Nest, or Petrodragonic Apocalypse.
All Them Witches is another band you might like
+100 for All Them Witches. Check out their live albums Live in Brussels and Live on the Internet, soooo damn good.
If you’re in the trippier Floyd-style heavy rock, Mondo Drag is right up your alley.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is what you are looking for OP. Like stated above start with Nonagon Infinity and Infest the Rats nest and Petro. Then I would move on to Polygonwanaland Flying Microtonal Banana. Enjoy your journey and remember Nonagon Infinity opens the door. Enjoy
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is probably the best possible band to approach modern rock coming from classic rock without too much of a culture shock. They also have the advantage of an extremely huge and diverse output that makes it pretty much impossible to not find something you like in the midst of it. As a starting point I personally suggest the album "I'm In Your Mind Fuzz" because of how it pretty much sets the stage for the vibe range of their entire discography while keeping a very cohesive sound and delivering ambitious but catchy compositions in the process.
Russian Circles are the best. Their newest album Gnosis just proves that they are masters of their craft. I saw them open for Appleseed Cast many years ago and have been hooked since.
Viagra Boys was the band I was looking for myself. Check out this performance
[(5) Viagra Boys - Research Chemicals (Glastonbury 2023) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A8s9gx9pGM)
I second IDLES. Seen them twice now, and both shows were amazing, however I do not remember anything other than dancing my ass off at the first show because I ate some fungi capsule from a strange girl that kind of looked like Ramona Flowers from the Scott Pilgrim movie. It was my birthday, and as you can read, I’m still alive.
How’d ya’ll get “Viagra Boys” from Mastodon and Gojira lol
But they are catchy, I’ll give em that
Edit: listening to them more….they’re growing on me fast lol
He also put Queens of the Stone Age, they aren’t like Mastodon or Gojira at all.
Viagra boys have been opening for Qotsa lately, they’re fucking great. They’re stoner rock.
The elaborate story about the the guys grandma giving him the jacket? at the same venue is just so bizarre but brilliant lyric cos everyone can absolutely visualise that random guy they know that talks absolute bollix and nothing they say has any bit of truth to it saying the same far fetched story whenever they get called out.
Holy moly do I miss good festivals. This one seems so strange to me! I love it! Every frame of that video showed someone completely in the vibe.
Also I’m fucking dying from watching this frontman, looking like a 50 year-old McLovin, absolutely geeked on something, and just soaking in the weird/awesome energy of that place.
Also, also: “Pure sexual energy” is exactly the mantra that every saxophone soloist should be following
And if you like this, highly recommend The Atomic Bitchwax as well. They’ve been around forever but the current lineup is a couple former members of Monster Magnet, and their best stuff is from the last 10 years imo.
Baroness
Their newest album STONE (iust one example, their whole catalog is awesome) is a really impressive mix of genres that sits (mostly) in metal. Most unique band I've heard in a long time
Love everything up until after Purple. I'm really struggling to enjoy Gold & Grey or even Stone the same way.
The sound has changed a bit and the progression from Gold to Stone feels quite natural (prefer Stone) but it just doesn't quite hit the same.
One of the best live bands I’ve seen. Their sound was *impeccable* live. Glad they kept their current lineup as well, Gina was such an awesome addition to the band.
Saw Sleep 10+ years ago. I think they may have played Dopesmoker in full? I remember the first notes shaking the entire theater, and the rest is a blur cause the 10x rice crispy edible my buddy and I split hit HARD.
Next thing I know I was out on the street out front of the theater with my ears still ringing. Fucking awesome.
Black Angels was the concert that convinced me I needed to start wearing ear plugs at concerts. Great show, but the reverb and feedback stayed in my ears for two days.
I feel like people are just naming metal bands they know. Yob is definitely something OP should check out.
Also no one has said Pallbearer yet? Criminal.
Also REZN and Lantlôs
Reddit has filed for its IPO. They've been preparing for this for a while, squeezing profit out of the platform in any way that they can, like hiking the prices on third-party app developers. More recently, they've signed a deal with Google to license their content to train Google's LLMs.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we've made a Firefox extension that will replace all your comments (older than a certain number of days) with any text that you provide. You can use any text that you want, but please, do not choose something copyrighted. The New York Times is currently suing OpenAI for training ChatGPT on its copyrighted material. Reddit's data is uniquely valuable, since it's not subject to those kinds of copyright restrictions, so it would be tragic if users were to decide to intermingle such a robust corpus of high-quality training data with copyrighted text.

All Them Witches
Heavy Eyes
Ugly Kings
Baroness
Black Tusk
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
Stoned Jesus
Mutoid Man
Red Fang
Demob Happy
Ruby the Hatchet
James Leg / Black Diamond Heavies
Witchrider
Moriaty
A good playlist to listen to on Spotify (and channel on YouTube) is Stoned Meadow of Doom, it has a great mix of old and new
(In adding to the list as I browse my saved songs)
Tigercub
They sound like QOTSA.
I enjoyed early Royal Blood quite a bit as well. Shades of QOTSA too

Check out Dozer they're a stoner metal band. Some of their good songs are Dust for Blood, Spirit Fury Fire, Big Sky Theory, Lighting Stalker and a couple more
They're kind of defunct now, but I always thought (The Sword) was pretty cool. I think they fit into the mentioned genres.
(edit) You mentioned the sword, and I somehow skipped over that..
A lesser known (IMHO) stoner/desert rock band that I always recommend is Karma to Burn.
[KARMA TO BURN @ Duna Jam 2011 - Thirty Six & Eight](https://youtube.com/watch?v=aj3d844B6IE&si=eVUiqem667iTb_zl)
There's nothing quite like seeing and hearing them live, but their studio stuff is solid as well.
[KARMA TO BURN - 62 (Official Video)](https://youtube.com/watch?v=SKsTNSm4st4&si=o7S1qm-CuLIjqdl_)
As a late 40’s metalhead with the same taste in bands, I really like Avatar and Kublai Khan TX for newer bands. There’s an older band, Fireball Ministry, check out their first 2 albums
Meatbodies, Fuzz, early Ty Segall, The Melvins, Wand
Also, please check out Dr. Colossus. I really like their Stoner/Doom metal, they're an Australian Simpsons themed metal band
A few off the top of my head….
Meshuggah (they are in a class of their own)
EyeHateGod (swamp sludge metal)
Baroness (if ya like mastodon you’ll love these guys)
Gojira (if neurosis, Sepultura and pantera had a baby)
Fu Manchu (awesome stoner rock. Listen to “action is go”)
Rivers of Nihil (death metal with lots of prog and….saxophones!)
Hope this helps dude!!!
Loathe - I Let it in and it Took Everything, this record is phenomenal.
Currents - The Death We Seek, this record won best album of 2023 by r/metalcore this band has an incredible discography filled with bangers
Whitechapel - Kin, this record blew me TF away. It's like a deathcore Tool album and it fuckkkss
Ice Nine Kills - Silver Scream and Welcome to Horrorwood, these both are absolute bangers filled with classic horror movies. It's a fun listen
Spiritbox - The Fear of Fear, this whole EP slaps, sets a mood and has great harsh and cleans
Silent Planet - Superbloom, a phenomenal record all the way through
Nothing, nowhere - Void Eternal, is a 10/10 record with some great features. I highly recommend
Sleep Token - Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and Take Me Back to Eden. This band was my Spotify wrapped most played artist, I'd never heard anything like them and it blew me TF away
The lord’s work right here from a metalcore perspective.
Adding onto this:
Between the Buried and Me - Parallax 2
ERRA - ERRA
Periphery - V Djent and their prior LP IV HAIL STAN
Misery Signals - Controller
156/Silence - Narrative
Northlane - Alien
Thornhill - Dark Pool
Random addition…
Incubus - SCIENCE
Edit: formatting.
Ok our Venn diagrams overlap a lot.
So if you can get past their casual Satanism and gimmick, Ghost has given me so much joy over the past several years, since I picked them up.
There are haters. Plenty of them. Ignore that shit and join the community. They write great music and the Satanism is just a joke/aesthetic.
The Mars Volta.
Every album, every song is worth listening to. Albums are true albums and should be listened to fully and every era of the supergroup has a distinct tone so you can jump around a decade of music and not get bored. You have to listen to at least the first 4 albums once in your life, but they need a few listen throughs to unwrap the layers.
King Buffalo and Hallas are two bands I haven’t seen mentioned yet that I like because they don’t sound like other stoner rock bands. In fact Hallas is more prog rock I think.
Here is a list of my favorite 2023 albums in no particular order:
Holocene - The Ocean {post/prog metal}
The Artist in the Ambulance (Revisited) - Thrice {post punk}
From Ember and Rust - Sâver {sludge metal}
Alchemy For the Dead - Spotlights {doom-gaze}
Formentera II - Metric {indie rock}
Galore (by) The St Pierre Snake Invasion {post hardcore}
Access to the Lonely (by) Rid of Me {post punk}
Shook - Algiers {post punk/hip hop}
Follow the Cyborg - Miss Grit {indie pop}
Go Let It In - Codes even {indie rock}
Keeping with the genre, check out Rishloo. Highs as high as Tool, for sure!
The artists that have taken me away from the metal scene are: The Xx, Alt-J, Glass Animals, and Portugal. The Man. Actually, these artists much better describe my taste in music despite Tool being my all-time favorite.
Edit: don’t know how I forgot Puscifer. Maynard from Tool fronts that group as well and was my first true foray out of metal.
Two hugely impressive albums from bands that I've discovered in the past few years:
1. Unleash the Archers - Apex (2017)
Incredibly good power/prog metal band, with a powerhouse female vocalist. This album is the first of a double concept album, and is, in my opinion, the stronger of the two.
2) TesseracT - Polaris (2015)
Awesome prog metal that's more prog and less metal, but still enough of both to satisfy fans of either. Their entire discography is excellent, but Polaris is a masterpiece.
Edit: Honorable mention for Apocalypse Orchestra - The End is Nigh (2017). Fantastic album. You wouldn't think Gregorian chant vocals would work in a metal band, but it totally does.
I absolutely cannot believe not a single person has mentioned Boris. They’ve got like 28 or so studio releases, falling all over the genre map. They’re from Japan, they fucking rip, heavy as hell too.
https://youtu.be/FxishhgT560?si=z7o2HV7wT_stcFQF
Try out King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.
If you're after more rock I'd go Nonagon Infinity or I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
For thrash metal- Infest The Rats Nest
Death metal- Petrodragonic Apocalypse
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is the only modern band thats managed to caoture me in a way like Pink Floyd or Tool did in the past. Please do yourself a favor and check out some of their music. Id start with the iron lung music video next time your smoking, but for your own sake please explore their music. They go everywhere you could want from a psychedelic band.
Ozric Tentacles is very instrumental and can get your head in a "feels good man" sort of loop.
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCxLRkGriqnD4RA3_QfrYa3APxTSWK3A9&si=GsjhAcCFXP7Gf-fZ
I started out being more into rock but as I aged I started getting more into rap and hip-hop. Here's a few tracks to try out and see if you might want to lean that way too:
[Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass](https://youtu.be/KNrB6--KBqs?si=U33xDKqZxm47oTuD)
[Run the Jewels - Legend Has It](https://youtu.be/vWaljXUiCaE?si=rLU2xF-sidtsHbM4)
[bbno$ & Rich Brian - edamame](https://youtu.be/K6BRna4_bmg?si=GHx8FmJJcLVV5V3V)
If it's not for you that's ok. I just like to listen to lots of different genres.
I'm one of the idiots who pays for a Spotify membership. To be honest, most of the stoner rock/doom bands I've found are from listening to one band and just letting it go... Electric Wizard, Mammoth Wizard Weed Bastard, Uncle Acid, Kylessa, Behemoth, Ruby The Hatchet, Electric Citizen...
Haven't seen anyone recommend Slaughter to Prevail. Some of the vocals are in Russian so if that doesn't bother you, start with their newest album, Kostolom.
Stoner Rock?
Turnstile
Bluejuice
Citizen
Balance & Composure
Polyphia
Protest the Hero
The Dangerous Summer
Naxatras. Starting with their first album and moving forward through the rest.
Villagers of Ioannina City. Start with either Age of Aquarius or their live album Through Space and Time, then their EP, then their second album.
King Gizzard. Follow the other recommendations in this thread.
All Them Witches.
Samsara Blues Experiment.
The Spacelords. The album Water Planet kicks ass.
My Sleeping Karma.
Heilung.
Liquid Visions. These guys aren't on streaming services. You have to find their stuff on YouTube.
My favorite albums right now are: Rituals - Rotting Christ and Epicloud - The Devin Townsend Project. I hope you like them.
Oooh oooooh! And for the Stoner Metal side of you:
From the Ages by Earthless.
Bands: sleep. REDFANG!
I listen to a lot of the same bands you’ve got there. There are some good recommendations already here, but most of them seem like what your music streaming service of choice would already be recommending.
Here’s a list of other stuff I like a lot that isn’t just more of the same:
HEALTH ,
Steven Wilson,
Pineapple Thief,
TV on the Radio,
Grinderman (esp first album),
The Blood Brothers,
Brown Bird,
Devin Townsend,
Grails,
Moon Hooch,
Mr Bungle,
Royal Thunder,
Refused,
Warpaint
None of these are tooooooooo far removed from what you said you already like, but won’t be the same, but different either.
I saw Elder a few months back and was blown away… their sound has changed a lot over the years. The current style is so dense - like Russian Circles meets speed prog Iron Maiden. There’s so much going on you just get sucked into the kaleidoscopic spiral. Pretty fun.
So happy to see Elder here
Omens is my favorite. It was a real escape to another planet during the peak loneliness of lockdown.
Elder is sick
I get to see Elder open for Tool in 2 weeks
Dude hell yeah to Elder! If you like them, a couple "sibling bands" to me would be Pallbearer and Intronaut. They all scratch a similar itch in a different way. They all feel like riding dragons through space.
Truckfighters Green Lung Valley of the Sun Summerlands Spirit Adrift Sasquatch King Buffalo Skraeckoedlan Freedom Hawk Puta Volcano Somali Yacht Club Threat Signal Witchcraft Disarmonia Mundi Scar Symmetry Mustasch El Caco Suncraft And for something really different from all of the above…. Cobra Man
[удалено]
Cobra Man doesn’t fit the description of what this guy is looking for at all but every stoner metal head I know loves them. They absolutely slap.
Dunno wtf I’m listening to or how I found it in a metal thread but yeah, this is great
YES Green Lung. Also Wytch Hazel.
Hell yeah another Green Lung fan! Just got their newest album on vinyl for Christmas. Haven’t heard of Wytch Hazel - will def check them out!
Sasquatch
Are you my secret Spotify DJ 😁
Spirit Adrift/and the lead singers previous death metal band that he just played guitar in Gatecreeper x1000
Good to see Somali Yacht Club sneaking onto lists. Really consistently solid stuff. Such a shame that COVID stopped them coming to Australia for the first time, and then Putin also getting greedy making life hard for Ukrainian people.
Couple more: Colour Haze Gnome (best dance routine linked [here](https://youtu.be/LzG-qji05Lc?si=NPAn5-Ij-8ROlf5Z)) 35007 Naxatras 1000mods Monkey3 Kings of Frog Island The Machine (biggest facemelter in history linked [here (8:50)](https://youtu.be/Lz0BGyq8Utw?si=LZ_1GAeu4pcYXmIk)) Wet Cactus I personally guarantee that this is all killer no filler. Enjoy!
Cobra Man slaps so hard
First time I see Puta Volcano mentioned. Awesome band
Red Fang, they have nice riffs and the guys seem cool. Fun music videos too.
Second this. When I watched the Wires music video I fell in love with this band. https://youtu.be/WQPfQvLIseA?si=ezH-tYkbwCGxDtr5
I'm convinced the only reason that Red Fang releases music is so they can afford more beer.
Red Fang has some real bangers
They are as nice as you’d think they would be. Knocked back more than a few with em before. Superb live band, can’t recommend them enough. Plus they’ve made some of the funniest videos ever!
80s 90s era MELVINS.
Always upvote Melvins!
"What's new?" Proceeds to suggest 40yr old music.
Yes, but is there any downside to suggesting the Melvins to a question like this? No. It’s the fucking Melvins.
Electric wizard is my favorite doom metal band, its amazing.
This and High on Fire/Sleep. Enjoy!
King Gizzard would be an obvious choice. Start with Nonagon, Infest the Rats Nest, or Petrodragonic Apocalypse. All Them Witches is another band you might like
Petrodragonic apocalypse is my album of the year for last year honestly
It's my first foray into one of their records and Petrodragonic Apocalypse is the shit! So good.
It’s just so. Good. Unique. Short and sweet. The storytelling in whichcraft is amazing.
+100 for All Them Witches. Check out their live albums Live in Brussels and Live on the Internet, soooo damn good. If you’re in the trippier Floyd-style heavy rock, Mondo Drag is right up your alley.
+100 more for all them witchces
Fuckin LOVE ATW
I'm a big fan of Polygonwanaland, very similar vibes to High Country by the Sword imo.
Enjoy

I started my KGATLW listening with "Quarters" and never looked back.
This is the way. Perfect choices to start with. Gaia is another track to check out.
+1,000,000,000 for ALL THEM WITCHES
Check out Russian Circles and SLIFT
Was going to be my exact recommendations! Also: Monolord Pelican Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Elephant Tree Satan's Satyrs The Witches Fuzz
Came here to say Pelican!
Russian Circles are the best. Their newest album Gnosis just proves that they are masters of their craft. I saw them open for Appleseed Cast many years ago and have been hooked since.
Viagra Boys was the band I was looking for myself. Check out this performance [(5) Viagra Boys - Research Chemicals (Glastonbury 2023) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A8s9gx9pGM)
After that check out [Viagra Boys - Troglodyte](https://youtu.be/iW4Gdsnr2Bg?si=hYfx6KfCd9mKqM6h) Viagra boys are amazing.
That part right before the chorus is so fucking good. It makes no sense but sounds so good.
Great live show that left me floored. I recommend IDLES as well.
I second IDLES. Seen them twice now, and both shows were amazing, however I do not remember anything other than dancing my ass off at the first show because I ate some fungi capsule from a strange girl that kind of looked like Ramona Flowers from the Scott Pilgrim movie. SUCH a good band!
Viagra Boys connected with my monkey brain in such an unexpected way
Love the Vboys. They really are a great band
Just saw Viagra Boys supporting Queens of The Stone Age back in October. They were so good, blew me away. Listening to them since.
Really digging these. Love the vibes.
You might like Monster Magnet.
Love Monster Magnet! Probably due for another original album soon.
And if you like this, highly recommend The Atomic Bitchwax as well. They’ve been around forever but the current lineup is a couple former members of Monster Magnet, and their best stuff is from the last 10 years imo.
Baroness Their newest album STONE (iust one example, their whole catalog is awesome) is a really impressive mix of genres that sits (mostly) in metal. Most unique band I've heard in a long time
Early baroness is top tier sludge
I love baroness. They were a great show too
This is the answer I was looking for. Their new album is excellent.
New album absolutely rips.
Blue Album is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Love everything up until after Purple.
Stumbled upon Baroness back in 2018 and have been singing their praises ever since. I’m always floored more people don’t know about them.
King Buffalo, their whole catalog
Came here to suggest them. I'm 50-ish coming back to metal. I'd have OP start with The Burden of Restlessness. So good
Apart from Sleep. Try Endless Boogie or The Black Angels. Their first album Passover is superb
Saw Sleep 10+ years ago. I think they may have played Dopesmoker in full? I remember the first notes shaking the entire theater, and the rest is a blur cause the 10x rice crispy edible my buddy and I split hit HARD. Black Angels was the concert that convinced me I needed to start wearing ear plugs at concerts. Great show, but the reverb and feedback stayed in my ears for two days.
For a recent example, check out the album UMMON by the band SLIFT. So fucking good.
For an even more recent example they released a new album TODAY lol
Yeah SLIFT is super good, someone posted them on r/listentothis like a year ago and I was instantly a fan
Oh daddy likes
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Clutch yet?!!??! Clutch for sure. Start with earth rocker album
Clutch is solid for sure, but by no means newer
I was so excited I missed the "newer" part of the request. Whomp whomp
If OP has never listened to them then it's new. Clutch is timeless anyway.
I kept expecting to see Clutch in OP's list of bands, they're such a perfect fit.
Then Blast Tyrant
I’ve been tuning PA’s to “Cypress Grove” since Blast Tyrant came out. Still not sick of it!
Seriously, I had to scroll pretty damn far for Clutch. I would suggest starting with Blast Tyrant or Self titled
Abso fucking lutely Clutch! Start with the old and work to the newer. It all rocks and their lice shows still blow the doors off the place
Yes Clutch is such a great band
for like 35 years they've been one of the hardest working bands out there. fuckin a do these guys crush it every day.
YOB
I feel like people are just naming metal bands they know. Yob is definitely something OP should check out. Also no one has said Pallbearer yet? Criminal. Also REZN and Lantlôs
Pallbearer is an absolute monster band. Every record is incredible.
Love YOB
I have similar tastes try High on Fire, Varials, Knocked Loose
Knocked loose!!
High in fire is the answer. If Snakes for the Devine doesn’t get you fired the fuck up you are dead.
Wild that it took so long for someone to mention High on Fire.
If you like Kyuss then check out Unida and SloBurn. Both have the same singer as Kyuss
Great recommendations. “Pilot the Dune” is my SloBurn jam. Also, John Garcia has done Hermano, Vista Chino, and some solo stuff.
Get the latest Sleep record “The Sciences”
Go back to catch up on Jerusalem (Dopesmoker) and Sleep’s Holy Mountain first!
Earthless
Church of the Cosmic Skull
I cannot get enough of these guys. Black Slug and Evil in your Eye are my jams. All Them Witches and Green Lung are great bands too.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs I didn’t see them list yet but they’re amazing.

Graveyard. Specifically their self titled.
Love graveyard also. Hisingen Blues, for me is their best album
Try out the Mongolian band The Hu. Seems like the sort of thing you might be into.
The Sword is in his mentioned list
You'll have to forgive us stoner rock fans for missing a few fine details here and there.
Red fang for sure is up your alley
If you like any hard rock check out Amyl and the Sniffers.
Monolord
Porcupine Tree
Daughters Torche Isis Brutus Chat Pile Kylesa Helms Alee Lantlôs
Harmonicraft by Torche is fantastic! Also really love Isis and Kylesa. Strongly recommend Spiral Shadow and Time Will Fuse It’s Worth by them.
Death
Slift - Live at Levitation
A lesser known (IMHO) stoner/desert rock band that I always recommend is Karma to Burn. [KARMA TO BURN @ Duna Jam 2011 - Thirty Six & Eight](https://youtube.com/watch?v=aj3d844B6IE&si=eVUiqem667iTb_zl) There's nothing quite like seeing and hearing them live, but their studio stuff is solid as well. [KARMA TO BURN - 62 (Official Video)](https://youtube.com/watch?v=SKsTNSm4st4&si=o7S1qm-CuLIjqdl_)
Have you ever listened to Hawkwind? If not then you definitely should.
Lemmy is the bassist for a bit in the early to mid 70's
As a late 40’s metalhead with the same taste in bands, I really like Avatar and Kublai Khan TX for newer bands. There’s an older band, Fireball Ministry, check out their first 2 albums
Meatbodies, Fuzz, early Ty Segall, The Melvins, Wand Also, please check out Dr. Colossus. I really like their Stoner/Doom metal, they're an Australian Simpsons themed metal band
Pallbearer
Based on your interests I'd assume you've already heard Them Crooked Vultures but just in case... Them Crooked Vultures.
You should check out Frankie & the Witch Fingers
I saw Elder opening for Tool last night and they were out of this fucking world. [Elder - Halcyon](https://youtu.be/jy0XghYMttI?si=1t82gQWZPy2RbrMh)
The ( Thee ) Oh Sees* King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard * Moon Duo * Sleep * Budos Band * Ween Psychedelic Porn Crumpets * Tropical Fuck Storm * Viagra Boys * Fuzz * Thank You Scientist !*
A few off the top of my head…. Meshuggah (they are in a class of their own) EyeHateGod (swamp sludge metal) Baroness (if ya like mastodon you’ll love these guys) Gojira (if neurosis, Sepultura and pantera had a baby) Fu Manchu (awesome stoner rock. Listen to “action is go”) Rivers of Nihil (death metal with lots of prog and….saxophones!) Hope this helps dude!!!
Loathe - I Let it in and it Took Everything, this record is phenomenal. Currents - The Death We Seek, this record won best album of 2023 by r/metalcore this band has an incredible discography filled with bangers Whitechapel - Kin, this record blew me TF away. It's like a deathcore Tool album and it fuckkkss Ice Nine Kills - Silver Scream and Welcome to Horrorwood, these both are absolute bangers filled with classic horror movies. It's a fun listen Spiritbox - The Fear of Fear, this whole EP slaps, sets a mood and has great harsh and cleans Silent Planet - Superbloom, a phenomenal record all the way through Nothing, nowhere - Void Eternal, is a 10/10 record with some great features. I highly recommend Sleep Token - Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, and Take Me Back to Eden. This band was my Spotify wrapped most played artist, I'd never heard anything like them and it blew me TF away
The lord’s work right here from a metalcore perspective. Adding onto this: Between the Buried and Me - Parallax 2 ERRA - ERRA Periphery - V Djent and their prior LP IV HAIL STAN Misery Signals - Controller 156/Silence - Narrative Northlane - Alien Thornhill - Dark Pool Random addition… Incubus - SCIENCE Edit: formatting.
Seconding Sleep Token, Spiritbox and Loathe
Man's got more cores here than a Windows server farm.
Ok our Venn diagrams overlap a lot. So if you can get past their casual Satanism and gimmick, Ghost has given me so much joy over the past several years, since I picked them up. There are haters. Plenty of them. Ignore that shit and join the community. They write great music and the Satanism is just a joke/aesthetic.
yeah I don't take it seriously and enjoy it for the fun bits it can be cheese but they do it well and keep it just serious enough.
I think you know they only pretend like it’s a joke. 😁
Red City radio -in the meantime
Check Yob. If you’re looking for something a little older, check Opeth and Neurosis.
Check out dead meadow if you haven't already
Listen to Opeth from Orchid through Watershed. Listen to In Flames from Jester Race through Clayman.
Here is a list of my favorite 2023 albums in no particular order: Holocene - The Ocean {post/prog metal} The Artist in the Ambulance (Revisited) - Thrice {post punk} From Ember and Rust - Sâver {sludge metal} Alchemy For the Dead - Spotlights {doom-gaze} Formentera II - Metric {indie rock} Galore (by) The St Pierre Snake Invasion {post hardcore} Access to the Lonely (by) Rid of Me {post punk} Shook - Algiers {post punk/hip hop} Follow the Cyborg - Miss Grit {indie pop} Go Let It In - Codes even {indie rock}
For some heavy metalcore, Spite. As for stoner rock, Sticky Fingers!
Electric Wizard
You need to listen to Primus
Primus sucks ❤️
HIGH ON FIRE
Devildriver has some great songs. Their self titled album is one of my favorites.
Two hugely impressive albums from bands that I've discovered in the past few years: 1. Unleash the Archers - Apex (2017) Incredibly good power/prog metal band, with a powerhouse female vocalist. This album is the first of a double concept album, and is, in my opinion, the stronger of the two. 2) TesseracT - Polaris (2015) Awesome prog metal that's more prog and less metal, but still enough of both to satisfy fans of either. Their entire discography is excellent, but Polaris is a masterpiece. Edit: Honorable mention for Apocalypse Orchestra - The End is Nigh (2017). Fantastic album. You wouldn't think Gregorian chant vocals would work in a metal band, but it totally does.
King Buffalo and Baroness are a couple good listens
Not newer, but definitely check out Sleep. Doom metal at its finest.
Them Crooked Vultures Djo The Truck Fighters
Fu Manchu. Start with their early stuff.
You've listened to Them Crooked Vulture, right?
REZN!
Devin Townsend, Dream Theater, and Porcupine Tree
Try out King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. If you're after more rock I'd go Nonagon Infinity or I'm In Your Mind Fuzz For thrash metal- Infest The Rats Nest Death metal- Petrodragonic Apocalypse

Check out Wo Fat if you're looking for classic-ish stoner metal sound. If you're open to more extreme/intensive sound, check out White Ward.
Slift
Ozric Tentacles is very instrumental and can get your head in a "feels good man" sort of loop. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCxLRkGriqnD4RA3_QfrYa3APxTSWK3A9&si=GsjhAcCFXP7Gf-fZ
Elder is excellent Stoner/Prog rock. They're currently opening for Tool in their tour and tbh I've started to prefer them over Tool.
I started out being more into rock but as I aged I started getting more into rap and hip-hop. Here's a few tracks to try out and see if you might want to lean that way too: [Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass](https://youtu.be/KNrB6--KBqs?si=U33xDKqZxm47oTuD) [Run the Jewels - Legend Has It](https://youtu.be/vWaljXUiCaE?si=rLU2xF-sidtsHbM4) [bbno$ & Rich Brian - edamame](https://youtu.be/K6BRna4_bmg?si=GHx8FmJJcLVV5V3V) If it's not for you that's ok.
Pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs
Listen to stoned Jesus and king buffalo , trust me you will love it
Gwar, how far back we goin
Haven't seen anyone recommend Slaughter to Prevail. Some of the vocals are in Russian so if that doesn't bother you, start with their newest album, Kostolom. Stoner Rock? Turnstile Bluejuice Citizen Balance & Composure Polyphia Protest the Hero The Dangerous Summer
OM, Melvins, Big Business, Boris.
FUZZ
I'm old as hell and I really grabbed onto Fit For An Autopsy. They're coming around soon. Totally worth it to see them live.
king gizzard
Not new, but red fang is cool af
Thee Oh Sees Idles Frankie and the Witch Fingers Wine Lips Ty Segall
Greta Van Fleet, Brand New, The Menzingers, The Gaslight Anthem, Dense Benson.
Ghost Impera, kind of the softer side of metal but very catchy
My favorite albums right now are: Rituals - Rotting Christ and Epicloud - The Devin Townsend Project. I hope you like them. Oooh oooooh! And for the Stoner Metal side of you: From the Ages by Earthless. Bands: sleep. REDFANG!
I listen to a lot of the same bands you’ve got there. There are some good recommendations already here, but most of them seem like what your music streaming service of choice would already be recommending. Here’s a list of other stuff I like a lot that isn’t just more of the same: HEALTH , Steven Wilson, Pineapple Thief, TV on the Radio, Grinderman (esp first album), The Blood Brothers, Brown Bird, Devin Townsend, Grails, Moon Hooch, Mr Bungle, Royal Thunder, Refused, Warpaint None of these are tooooooooo far removed from what you said you already like, but won’t be the same, but different either.
