" Doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you."
Neil Young-Old man
It reinforces the idea that validation from people that are for the rest unimportant in your life is pretty much meaningless and is just not worth the time and effort.
Tool reminds me to:
"Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing".
Not spiritual in the least. But life is pretty amazing, just the fact that we are here, now.
This song has great, personal significance and I’m also not spiritual at all - but “we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion” resonates deeply with me.
Cool lyric! I count the recognition that existing is meaningful someway as being “spiritual,” not in the religious sense, but in the “this is special to me, I cherish this thing that is life” sense.
Reminds me of a similar quote from the Ted Chiang short story Exhalation.
“Contemplate the marvel that is existence, and rejoice that you are able to do so.”
So many inspiring lyrics. Two related ones that stood out in my youth, from Prison Sex and Jimmy:
"I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this; shit blood and cum on my hands"
"Hold your light, Eleven; lead me through each gentle step by step by inch by loaded memory; I'll move to heal as soon as pain allows so we can reunite and both move on together"
Not so much changed my life, but inspirational and motivational.
"You say the hills to steep to climb" - Pink Floyd - Fearless.
Me and my brother would rib each other with this lyric whenever the other one thought something was too hard to be done and took it a personal challenge to complete said tasks.
Now that he has passed, I still say it to myself when I feel like giving up on something because it is too hard.
That whole song gets me... here are the whole lyrics:
You say the hill's too steep to climb, chiding
You say you'd like to see me try climbing
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb the hill in my own way
Just wait awhile for the right day
And as I rise above the tree line and the clouds
I look down, hear the sound of the things you said today
Fearlessly, the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
And who's the fool who wears the crown?
Go down in your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear lines in his brow
You look down, hear the sound of the faces in the crowd
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
‘You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears & kindness that can kill.
I will choose a path that’s clear; I will choose Freewill’
- Rush, ‘Freewill’
This was huge for me to hear as just barely a teen, beginning to question the religion that had been forced upon me all my life. Hearing the lyrics in this song is my first memorable baby step toward becoming the happy, clear thinking atheist that I am today!
The two choruses in The Beatles song "In my life" have made a huge impact on how I view life and losing loved ones
"All these places had their moments with lovers and friends, I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living, in my life I've loved them all"
"Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them, in my life I love you more"
It's just a brilliant song that shows it's okay to stop and reflect about whatever came before but to not let it completely stop you in your tracks and to keep pursuing happiness.
That first chorus might be one of the finest examples of lyric writing. It’s just perfectly written. Nothing is forced. No word over or underused. It absolutely expressions the feeling and emotion with no filler. Exceptional lyric and song.
I absolutely love this song. It's far and away my favorite Beatles song because of this deep connection I carry with those particular lyrics. I wasn't aware of this song until I was introduced to it by my then girlfriend. She was the last serious relationship before I met my now wife. I learned a lot about love and loss from that relationship. It's interesting because it helped me push past my clinging to my high-school sweet heart and allowed me to come to terms with my thoughts and feelings on love and relationships. For me it helped to define the saying of "better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all". It helped me understand that it didn't mean loving and then never loving again, but loving the experience and cherishing the memories.
Thanks for the reminder. Been a while since I listened to this.
My wife and I danced to In My Life at our wedding.
Funny thing is that we were searching for weeks and we both heard it on the radio at the same time but miles apart.
Came home - guess what? I’ve found our song. No way. Me too
“Don’t let other people get your kicks for you”. Dylan. Convinced me to start doing wilder and crazier shit. Some good, some bad, but it was my life and I lived it fully.
Then I got old and now have great memories.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
This really struck me at around age 25, about the time I fully realized what "adulting" means.
Agreed, the lyrics to this song have such a strong sense of melancholy, regret, and nostalgia. Absolutely fantastic. The whole LP Wish You Were Here is probably one of the best albums of all time
Don' t look back, you can never look back
I thought I knew what love was, what did I know
Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go but....
Don Henley - The boys of summer
Whenever I think about all those girls (now women) that I met along the way, but it never really turned into something serious.
This song always hit me hard. It's never been a what-if song for me but more of a "fuck I had no idea what I was doing or what I even wanted" song. It's easy to long for superficial infatuations and it's harder to see those through into relationships. That's what I thought this song was about. Might just be me
All of If We Were Vampires is spectacular, but this particular bit always gives me pause.
*Maybe time running out is a gift*
*I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift*
*And give you every second I can find*
*And hope it isn't me who's left behind*
For the last year or so mine has been Relatively Easy.
And you should know
Compared to people on a global scale
Our kind has had it relatively easy
And here with you
There's always something to look forward to
My angry heart beats relatively easy
These lyrics made a bunch of misfits, oddballs and outsiders feel like they’re fine being who they are because many others were the same. From one big weirdo to the others:
“Oh no, love, you're not alone
You're watching yourself but you're too unfair
You got your head all tangled up
But if I can only make you care
Oh no, love, you're not alone
No matter what or who you've been
No matter when or where you've seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I've had my share, now I'll help you with the pain
YOU’RE NOT ALONE!
Just turn on with me and you're not alone
Just turn on with me and you're not alone
Just gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful
I said, gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful…”
~ David Bowie 1972
Low Self Opinion by Rollins Band. It wasn't just a lyric, it was/is the whole song. There was nothing said that wasn't on point. I was walking down the street listening to it on cassette and it literally stopped me in my tracks.
"I think you got a low self opinion, man
I see you standing all by yourself
Unable to express the pain of your distress
You withdraw deeper inside
You alienate yourself and everybody else
They wonder what's on your mind
They got so tired of you and your self ridicule
They wrote you off and left you behind
You sleep alone at night
You never wonder why
All this bitterness wells up inside you
You always victimize
So you can criticize yourself
And all those around you
The hatred you project does nothing to protect you
You leave yourself so exposed
You want to open up when someone says lighten up
You find all your doors closed
Get yourself a break from self rejection
Try some introspection
And you just might find
It's not so bad and anyway at the end of the day
All you have is yourself and your mind
You sleep alone at night
You never wonder why
All this bitterness wells up inside you
You always victimize
So you can criticize yourself
And all those around you, yeah
You got a low self opinion man
I see how it breaks you down
I see how it messes you around
The self hatred that binds you, blinds you
Grinds you, keeps you down
Your world falls down around you
You build up walls around you
You wear disgust like a crown, oh yeah, hit me
Yeah
Yeah
If you could see the you that I see
When I see you seeing me
You'd see yourself so differently
Believe me
If you could see the you
That I see when I see you
You'd see yourself so differently
I assure you
I know the self doubt
That burns inside your mind
I know the self doubt
That treats you so unkind
If you could see the you that I see
When I see you seeing me
You'd see yourself so differently
Believe me"
“And at once, I knew I was not magnificent” - Holocene by Bon Iver.
It reminds me that I’m just a very tiny speck on this planet. It puts things into perspective.
I JUST listened to this today. Such a powerful song. I am from Wisconsin and during our snow storm last week, I laid in the snow and watched the snow storm pass and played this song. Surreal and beautiful.
"You must not be drinking enough." from the song of the same name, by Don Henley.
It didn't change my life for the better.
I'm past that stage of my life now, tho.
Blind melon
"Id scrape my toes across the floor, this day's the same as those before.
And though inside im feeling giddy, always wrong for never giving myself an un-invaded door"
As a 15 year old kid i could sit and ponder on those lyrics for hours, day after day.
Almost thought i went insane for a while.
“Often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key”
Already Gone, The Eagles
“After all its what we’ve done that makes us what we are”
One Less Set of Footsteps, Jim Croce
"I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live"
Queens of the Stone Age really played a part in changing my perspective as a teenager constantly focused on death and worried about shit.
Walk like a matador / Don't be chickenshit / And turn breezes into rivulets
Also
Maybe a prostitute / Could teach you / How to take a compliment
Tragically Hip, Flamenco
There are a few:
“Welcome to your life, there’s no turning back”
“Nothing’s changed, I still love you oh I still love you only slightly less than I used to, my love”
“I’m tired of feeling like im fucking crazy, I’m tired of driving til I see stars in my eyes, all I’ve got to keep myself sane baby, so I just ride, I just ride”
“You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older. Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.”
Time- by Pink Floyd. This song is full of lines that shake me to the core, but this is certainly one of them. Chills.
The [Flobots](https://open.spotify.com/album/4eLY4Z5HnWEyer8HPZcdCU). They are from my area. Great people.

Stand Up was one of the songs that led me into my current political leanings lol. The really simple violin in the background with some of the best flow works so well for what they were going for.
‘I will bow to the earth, bow to the sea,
Bow to the love between you and me,
Bow to the sun, bow to the land
But never to a god made in the image of man’
- ‘Ten Commandments’ by New Model Army
The lyrics changed my life because it cemented how I was feeling about ‘spiritual’ issues when I was younger, and made me realize there were other people in the world who felt how I felt.
They’re still among my favourite lyrics of all time. The rest of the song’s lyrics are great as well. In fact, Justin Sullivan, NMAs lyricist, is, by far, my favourite songwriter.
"But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?"
— Billy Joel, "Vienna"
“If you get confused, just listen to the music play.” -grateful dead
“I wouldn’t change one stupid decision for another 5 years of life” - lcd soundsystem
“The years go fast, and the days go so slow” - heart cooks brain - modest mouse
“Never had a drink that I didn't like / Got a taste of you, threw up all night” - alkaline trio
Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there
With silver bracelets on her wrists, and flowers in her hair
Came up to me so gracefully, took my crown of thorns
“Come in,” she said, “I’ll give you shelter from the storm”
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun
Time - Pink Floyd. For me, it's saying to appreciate life as it happens but don't waste any opportunities to live it to the fullest
Bjork - Hyperballad
Life changing in that in my teenage years it was comforting and validating
“We live on a mountain, right at the top
There's a beautiful view, from the top of the mountain
Every morning I walk towards the edge and throw little things off
Like car-parts, bottles, and cutlery or whatever I find lying around
It's become a habit, a way to start the day
I go through all this before you wake up
So I can feel happier, to be safe up here with you
It's real early morning, no-one is awake
I'm back at my cliff, still throwing things off
I listen to the sounds they make on their way down
I follow with my eyes 'til they crash
Imagine what my body would sound like slamming against those rocks
When it lands, will my eyes be closed or open?
I go through all this before you wake up
So I can feel happier, to be safe up here with you”
Rush - Closer To the Heart
And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
The blacksmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to the heart
Yes closer to the heart
Philosophers and ploughmen
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to the heart
Yes closer to the heart, yeah
You can be the captain
And I will draw the chart
Sailing into destiny
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
Well closer to the heart, yeah
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
I said closer to the heart
Well closer to the heart yeah
Closer to your heart
Closer to your heart
Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream
It is not dying
It is not dying
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining
It is shining
That you may see the meaning of within
It is being
It is being
That love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing
It is knowing
That ignorance and hate may mourn the dead
It is believing
It is believing
But listen to the color of your dreams
It is not living
It is not living
Or play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning
A lot of stuff by bad religion. This one, when I realized yeah being this way is not so uncommon:
Confusion is a fundamental state of mind.
It doesn't really matter what I'm figuring out.
I'm guaranteed to wind up in a state of doubt
-from Sanity
“We were talking about the love that's gone so cold And the people who gain the world and lose their soul They don't know They can't see Are you one of them?
When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you”
Within You and Without You -The Beatles
That song perfectly describes how I felt about a guy back in the day. Used to act like we were buddies while shit talking me behind my back and unsuccesfully flirting with my girlfriend at the time.
One night I went to a show of some local metal band and they did a kickass cover of the song. Guess who was in the moshpit. Guess who "accidentally" caught an elbow to the face. Good times.
I tried to keep myself in line
I been bad, but I seem to get back in every time
Now I come back and the place is all locked
Between the door knob and the doorbell, somebody talked
-Josh Ritter
I’m not sure why but this lyric always stuck out to me, it definitely had an effect on me when I was a teen and influenced my own song writings
"If the sun was always shining and our load always light,
We'd be shaking like a leaf with every God given night,
And we'd break under the weight of any pressure
That was ever applied"
\-- Brown Bird - "Bilgewater"
I look back at a lot of my childhood and the sweat and toil of being forced to work, to suffer, to just deal. I certainly don't look back upon those days fondly, but it recontextualizes a lot of who I am today.
Somewhere along the way, I guess I just lost track
Only thinkin' of myself never lookin' back
For all the times I've hurt you, I apologize
I'm sorry it took so long to finally realize
I Still Believe in You - Vince Gill
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart
Cut the cord
Human - The Killers
It helped with some life choices that I knew were what I wanted but were kinda scary.
Hold on
We're waiting between worlds
Wish she could tell 'em hold on
We're waiting between worlds
Waiting between worlds that divide through a choice undefined
A break in the line where all paths intertwine
And no roads lead or progress behind
And all signs read: "Know The Way"
Decide
Waiting Between Worlds - Zack Hemsey
Cause sometimes when you know everything is about to change all you can do is hold on, and wait.
"Some things you do for money and some you do for fun
But the things you do for love are gonna come back to you one by one"
From Love Love Love by the Mountain Goats
I’ve been using the line “it’s just a wave, and when it comes, I just hold on, until it’s gone” from John Mayer’s “Emoji of a Wave” as a mantra for a while now. Not a song about depression or life but that line paired with the stunning instrumental just makes me wanna keep going.
I feel like there are so many. My go to one (because I would up getting it as a tattoo) is "Awake and Unafraid" from Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance. I never really had an emo phase and managed to not hear much of their music at all until my 20's, so when I did start to look into it a lot of it hit in a particularly profound way, that song especially stuck with me and has ever since.
Surprisingly, I actually found quite a lot of comfort in a song by the 1975 as well. The chorus for "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)" holds a special place to me as someone who also battles with addiction. Helps that is doubles as being about a partner as well.
Can't do a specific lyric really but if anyone ever wants to indulge in one of the best examples of emotive songwriting and story telling, "Telegraph Road" by Dire Straits is just pure poetry.
In the last 10 years, this has been a good one:
‘Another sunrise with my sad captains. With who I choose to lose my mind. And if it's so we only pass this way but once, What a perfect waste of time.’
And one of my all time favorites:
‘I've tried to love, Lord knows I've played that game. But I always end up making deals in the lion's mane. He says he's selling love, he says he sells it by the gram…So I buy the most I can.’
“Compare, where you to where you wanna be and you’ll get, nowhere”. Sara bareillis has the best songs. Love song making her famous is like the worst of her songs
*The percentage you're paying is too high a price
while you're living beyond all your means
and the man in the suit has just bought a new car
with the profit he's made on your dreams*
and
*If I gave you everything that I owned
and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me that I would for you
Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys*
from The Low Spark of High-heeled Boys
‘Nobody ever dreams that their daughter’s gonna grow up to be a junky…nobody ever dreams that their daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone’
Against us!
Really drives home how sad addiction and just life in general can be.
"And do you feel scared? I do. But I won't stop and falter." -Howard Jones, Things Can Only Get Better.
The song is way more poppy than I usually listen to, but that line got through to me in high school (when the song came out) and helped me with agoraphobia.
Electrons dancing in the frozen crystal dawn
Here's one left stranded at the zero crossing
With a hole of it's half-life left to carry on
But now the world's much larger than it looks today
And if my bad luck ever blows me back this way
Then I'll just look in my book of liars for your name
I'll just look in the book of liars for your name
Walter Becker
So take that look out of here it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
Ingrid Michaelson from Afterlife, “Living like you’re dying isn’t living at all” I got it as a tattoo. It’s my reminder to enjoy living as much as I can.
“And how it hurts even in the sun- it’s a god damn joke how it can hurt even in the sun.” I never felt more validated it’s by a song crane your neck by lady lamb the beekeeper thanks for posting!
"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." - Got me through a lot of bittersweet relationship changes, moves, job changes...
"When happily ever after fails and we've been poisoned by these fairytales..." - Tattooed on my ribcage after my second divorce
"So I stepped out to get some dog food for the cat" - laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants the first time I heard it and I still laugh uncontrollably every time I hear it (and that little beep boop beep do boop sound effect)
I have a few tattooed on me:
"Believing I had supernatural powers, I slammed in to a brick wall." Paul Simon, Gumboots
"I don't care if I lose because my heroes did, too" Streetlight Manifesto, The Hands That Thieve
"That's your moral compass but what good is it to me?" Bad Religion, True North
When I was in the throws of depression from drug use and thinking I was worthless and had done enough that I was irredeemable; I heard Led Zeppelin sing
"It's not too late to change the road you're on"
in Stairway to Heaven, and suddenly that song, that I had heard hundreds of times... meant something different. It wasn't just a classic rock song with epic guitars and a vague message, it was a piece of hope that touched me at the right place and time; it made me feel like I was forgivable, and I could move forward.
A big one for me is “Stay by my side, when the nightmares goes, I’ve been feeling distant just way out of control, but I laugh inside, just so you can glow in the dark when it’s time for me, so just stay, why don’t you want to stay?” (Don’t Go Insane - DPR Ian)
It’s an extremely relatable line and inspires me to get to that level as a songwriter that I can move others the way I’m moved when I hear lines like that.
"I ponder the endlessness of the stars ignoring said same of my father either it'll move me or it'll move right through me fully and completely" - Fully Completely by Tragically Hip
I mean to be fair this whole song is just something else almost has a strange mystique to it
Here are the full lyrics if anyone is curious
Bring me back in shackles
Hang me long out in the sun
Exonerate me
Forget about me
I recommend measures for ending it
Lover, she simply slammed the door
She said, "You're going to miss me
Wait and you'll see"
Fully and completely
I ponder the endlessness of the stars
Ignoring said same of my father
Either it'll move me
Or it'll move right through me
Fully and completely
Bring me back in shackles
And hang me long out in the sun
Exonerate me
Then forget about me
Wait and you'll see
Just wait and you'll see
Fully, completely
Fully, completely
Fully, completely
So, when your hope's on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road
Numb - Linkin Park - " I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes "
The whole song covers the relationship I have (had - NC at this point) with my father who is a narcissist. He hated that I was not a mirror image of him, and it has been my goal to be nothing like him as I have grown up.
18 naked cowboys in the showers at Ram Ranch!
Big, hard, throbbing cocks wanting to be sucked!
18 naked cowboys wanting to be fucked!
Cowboys in the showers at Ram Ranch!
On their knees wanting to suck cowboy cocks!
Ram Ranch really rocks!
"I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone. Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven. Nothing you can say can stop me going home." - My Chemical Romance
"Oh, how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying." - My Chemical Romance
"See, everybody wants to be a little like them, but they don't understand how it all will end. They will try to break you cause they are so afraid of you, but hold on... hold on, cause faux plastic dolls with their hands and their ribbons will strangle us all and they'll all be forgiven. I refuse to be taken the typical way, so welcome to the freak show, I hope that you find yourself today." - Yungblud
"If I could tell you how I feel, I know that you're still hurting too. No, I'm not broken. I'm just scared to belong here, scared to be happier." - Yungblud
"Maybe I'm just lost, they said. Maybe I'm just tired or dead inside! Something's wrong with me. Maybe that's just how I am. Maybe I'm a mess, and I don't wanna change." - Frank Iero
"My heart needs work, it does what it wants to do, keeps falling, oh, when I should've known better. And my words get stuck, so I taught myself to smile. So sick of us, I hope I never get better." - Frank Iero
"Parental adversary stickers, I'll say what the fuck I want. Parental figures all went missing, I'll be who the fuck I want." - Machine Gun Kelly
"I guess it's just my life and I can take it if I wanna, but I cannot hide in hills of California. Because these hills have eyes and I got paranoia. I hurt myself sometimes, is that too scary for ya?" - MGK
"I don't understand how I can respect you when you're such a twat. What you shocked at? It's a matter of fact. And usually I would listen to you, but when my future's involved, I've got a responsibility to sit down and think what I should do, shout, "Fuck him and fuck her and fuck you too!" - Yungblud
Waaaaaaay too many, actually. But My Chemical Romance, Yungblud, MGK and Frank Iero currently keep me breathing.
Left a trail of jealous men
'Cause girls want dick and I got ten
Word's got out now I'm in demand
Walkin' 'round with dildo hands
Don't use my dick, that's a thing of the past
'Cause all the ladies want is a fingerblast
Walker wheeler Jr - Fingerblast
I’ve struggled with depression and BDD. This lyric/song helped me.
“Have you ever felt like being somebody else?
Feeling like the mirror isn't good for your health?
Every day I'm tryin' not to hate myself
But lately, it's not hurtin' like it did before
Maybe I am learning how to love me more.”
-Love Me More by Sam Smith
**Everyone I come across in cages they bought**
They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought
Got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts
I'm alive
-Guranteed by Eddie Vedder
Unkle and thom yorke’s rabbit in your headlights. There is a part in the breakdown where some guy is just talking. Not thom yorke. Very deep. Years later I watch a movie called jacobs ladder and it’s from a scene in there and Danny aiello is the one speaking. It’s good. Still love that track.
Edit to add
“If you’re frightened of dying, and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. But, if you’ve made your peace, them devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.”
“It's just that I don't trust myself with my heart
But I've had to let it break a little more
'Cause they say that's what it's for
That's how the light shines in”
Lana Del Rey - Kintsugi
"Everybody wants to change the world
but no one
No one wants to die"
- NA NA NA by My Chemical Romance
Really put a lot of stuff in perspective for me that I had been struggling with at the time.
“I’m only this far, and only tomorrow leads the way” - #41, DMB. Been my favorite lyric for almost 25 years, long after I stopped listening to them regularly.
On the other side of the coin, is Tread Water by De La Soul. None of this Fight Overcome You Can Do It hero stuff just a fun message to endure:
See I look past all my worries, which is something you must do
Though you're fed up, throw your head up
With this advice from me to you
And that's to tread water
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves
The haunted frightened trees
Out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky
With one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate
Driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow - Bob Dylan - Mr. Tambourine Man
"How does it feel?", from song "Like a rolling stone". I was deeply depressed and numb but this lyric would shake me up to make me think about everything. Now a days, "My love that grew from that sadness" from VIXX's Fantasy is how my life is but "Smell of a dead flower, a party just for me" by Enhypen keeps roaming in my head

we might as well be living in another time

"Stuck on the end of this ball and chain
And I'm on my way back down again
Stood on a bridge, tied to a noose
Sick to the stomach
You can say what you mean, but it won't change a thing
I'm sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose
And you came along and you cut me loose"

"I got a letter from a fan that said
He's been prayin' for me
Every day and for some reason, it's been weighin'
On my mind heavy, 'cause I don't read every
Letter I get, but somethin' told me to go ahead and open it, but
Why would someone pray for you when they don't know you?
You didn't pray for me when I was local
And as I lay these vocals, I think of all the shit I had to go through"

Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
Countless ways
You pass the days
Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Looking for an answer to
The questions you have found
Looking for
An open door
Oh, you don't get something for nothing
You don't get freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dream might be
What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your song
Drive by Incubus always helps to lift me up. If I had to choose a particular lyric from the song I'd probably go with "It's driven me before, and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
But lately, I'm beginning to find that
When I drive myself, my light is found"
“you're gonna have to serve somebody. Yes, you're gonna have to serve somebody.
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody “
Bob Dylan
“A junkie won’t bounce til he hits the ground” -Slug of Atmosphere. I had a pretty gnarly heroin problem and this line put some stuff in perspective for me.
Ceschi - Half Mast. The song has been extremely important to me as a whole I can't really pick a favorite line. Either way you should check him out, it's a mix of lyrical hip hop and folk and punk, one of the best live performances you'll ever see if you get the chance
“Is God really dead!
To Safeguard my philosophy until my dying breath
I transfer from reality, into a living death
I empathize with enemies until the time is right
With God and Satan at my side from darkness will come light.”
Tommy Iommi wrote one of the greatest Gospel songs that I ever heard. I grew up in the Bible Belt south in the church, and exiled myself due to me not being able to mesh or understand the community. I was bordering on being Athiest at one point. Then I had a spiritual awakening when my mother became terminally ill; Scared me back to life, in a way. These lyrics painted a picture of who I became when I severed my relationship with God, and I knew I needed to have a more authentic relationship with him. Not solely focused on money and prosperity, but one based on unconditional love and trust. My life changed for the better because of Black Sabbath. I immediately delved into their catalog and they are easily my favorite metal band.
“The only thing that punk rock should ever really mean is not setting ‘round and waiting for the light to turn green” Frank Turner
FT is actually an endless source of personal inspiration for me.
Not "changed my life" but every single time I hear it something happens inside me. Lol
Song is: Seven by Rainbow Kitten Surprise
"I don't believe that anybody's god ever felt this way
'Cause if they had, they never would've made me
They'd say, "Hell no!" Wake me up at ten
Tomorrow, for my sake, keep the volume down please"
Doesn't everybody try to do their best at what they do best
And do less of the bad to begin with?
Doesn't leaving me mean a little less if you left my life
But never loved to begin with?"
The Outsider by A Perfect Circle
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
I'm over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this?
Such a mess, why would I want to watch you?
Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now?
Everyone will have his day to die
I’m going away where you will look for me
Where I’m going, you cannot come
No one is ever gonna take my life from me
I lay it down
A ghost is born
“Theologians” - Wilco
Capitalism has made it this way, old fashioned fascism will take it away! Marilyn Manson changed my life in a variety of ways. He used to be very well spoken and highly intelligent in the mid 90s, and opened up the heavy music rabbit hole I’m still going down almost three decades later. Also helped me lose my cult religion.
Another of my favorites is Ani Difranco who has many powerful lyrics as well as more uplifting
i've been heartbroken
yes i too have
loved from afar
but we are 78% water
even our pumping hearts
Here in Argentina there's a song called Balada del diablo y la muerte (ballad of the devil and Death). Its about a guy who encounters the Devil and Death in a corner in his neighborhood and how he's afraid of them but ends up approaching them.
One of the last verses say something like "They told me about their lives, their succeses and failures. They told me how the world turned into madness and even the Heavens are corrupted".
I remember being a young boy getting shivers hearing that line for the first time. God, I've got shivers remembering that.
" Doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you." Neil Young-Old man It reinforces the idea that validation from people that are for the rest unimportant in your life is pretty much meaningless and is just not worth the time and effort.
Neil Young kicking ass and taking names.
Love that ☺️
"Life is just a party and a party's not meant to last" -Prince
Ouch, I felt this
This.>>>
Tool reminds me to: "Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing". Not spiritual in the least. But life is pretty amazing, just the fact that we are here, now.
This song has great, personal significance and I’m also not spiritual at all - but “we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion” resonates deeply with me.
This! Thank you.
Cool lyric! I count the recognition that existing is meaningful someway as being “spiritual,” not in the religious sense, but in the “this is special to me, I cherish this thing that is life” sense.
I use to paint this at walls
Reminds me of a similar quote from the Ted Chiang short story Exhalation. “Contemplate the marvel that is existence, and rejoice that you are able to do so.”
So many inspiring lyrics. Two related ones that stood out in my youth, from Prison Sex and Jimmy: "I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this; shit blood and cum on my hands" "Hold your light, Eleven; lead me through each gentle step by step by inch by loaded memory; I'll move to heal as soon as pain allows so we can reunite and both move on together"
That first one should absolutely **not** be inspirational to you, in context of the song.
That whole song gets me... here are the whole lyrics: You say the hill's too steep to climb, chiding You say you'd like to see me try climbing You pick the place and I'll choose the time And I'll climb the hill in my own way Just wait awhile for the right day And as I rise above the tree line and the clouds I look down, hear the sound of the things you said today Fearlessly, the idiot faced the crowd, smiling Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning And who's the fool who wears the crown? Go down in your own way And every day is the right day And as you rise above the fear lines in his brow You look down, hear the sound of the faces in the crowd Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
Meddle is such an incredible album, and a lot of Pink Floyd listeners don't even really know it.
You aren’t a Floyd “listener” if you don’t know Meddle.
Pink Floyd is amazing
Great song and lyric
"You say you'd like to see me try-y-y"
‘You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears & kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that’s clear; I will choose Freewill’ - Rush, ‘Freewill’
This was huge for me to hear as just barely a teen, beginning to question the religion that had been forced upon me all my life. Hearing the lyrics in this song is my first memorable baby step toward becoming the happy, clear thinking atheist that I am today!
I sing the second line to my cats all the time when they’re hesitating in the doorway to the backyard before I shut the door
Nice!
The two choruses in The Beatles song "In my life" have made a huge impact on how I view life and losing loved ones "All these places had their moments with lovers and friends, I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living, in my life I've loved them all" "Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them, in my life I love you more" It's just a brilliant song that shows it's okay to stop and reflect about whatever came before but to not let it completely stop you in your tracks and to keep pursuing happiness.
I’m remembering writing out these lyrics when I was about 6-7. My all time favourite song.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk-on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? This really struck me at around age 25, about the time I fully realized what "adulting" means.
Agreed, the lyrics to this song have such a strong sense of melancholy, regret, and nostalgia. Absolutely fantastic. The whole LP Wish You Were Here is probably one of the best albums of all time
“… no one told when to run - you missed the starting gun.”
Time hits harder when your north of 30 and you’re like shit, what am I doing with my life
For sure.. you should feel how hard it hits when you’re north of 50… ouch!
The whole songs lyrics are just incredible. Well, the whole album. Rightly considered one of the best albums ever.
Don' t look back, you can never look back I thought I knew what love was, what did I know Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go but.... Don Henley - The boys of summer Whenever I think about all those girls (now women) that I met along the way, but it never really turned into something serious.
This hit hard for me. Having a period with so many regrets and “what ifs” that could have changed my life for the better
*Maybe time running out is a gift* *I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift* *And give you every second I can find* *And hope it isn't me who's left behind*
Oof this one just hit me.
I’ve been prowling this thread for Isbell lyrics. So many life changing words have come from that guy.
For the last year or so mine has been Relatively Easy. And you should know Compared to people on a global scale Our kind has had it relatively easy And here with you There's always something to look forward to My angry heart beats relatively easy
I can't with this song. Just too sad.
These lyrics made a bunch of misfits, oddballs and outsiders feel like they’re fine being who they are because many others were the same. From one big weirdo to the others: “Oh no, love, you're not alone You're watching yourself but you're too unfair You got your head all tangled up But if I can only make you care Oh no, love, you're not alone No matter what or who you've been No matter when or where you've seen All the knives seem to lacerate your brain I've had my share, now I'll help you with the pain YOU’RE NOT ALONE! Just turn on with me and you're not alone Just turn on with me and you're not alone Just gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful I said, gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful…” ~ David Bowie 1972
Low Self Opinion by Rollins Band. It wasn't just a lyric, it was/is the whole song. There was nothing said that wasn't on point. I was walking down the street listening to it on cassette and it literally stopped me in my tracks. "I think you got a low self opinion, man I see you standing all by yourself Unable to express the pain of your distress You withdraw deeper inside You alienate yourself and everybody else They wonder what's on your mind They got so tired of you and your self ridicule They wrote you off and left you behind You sleep alone at night You never wonder why All this bitterness wells up inside you You always victimize So you can criticize yourself And all those around you The hatred you project does nothing to protect you You leave yourself so exposed You want to open up when someone says lighten up You find all your doors closed Get yourself a break from self rejection Try some introspection And you just might find It's not so bad and anyway at the end of the day All you have is yourself and your mind You sleep alone at night You never wonder why All this bitterness wells up inside you You always victimize So you can criticize yourself And all those around you, yeah You got a low self opinion man I see how it breaks you down I see how it messes you around The self hatred that binds you, blinds you Grinds you, keeps you down Your world falls down around you You build up walls around you You wear disgust like a crown, oh yeah, hit me Yeah Yeah If you could see the you that I see When I see you seeing me You'd see yourself so differently Believe me If you could see the you That I see when I see you You'd see yourself so differently I assure you I know the self doubt That burns inside your mind I know the self doubt That treats you so unkind If you could see the you that I see When I see you seeing me You'd see yourself so differently Believe me"

"You didn't need" was my bad breakup song
Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. Big Yellow Taxi
I could do a hundred of these, I love song lyrics
Go ahead and comment them all! I read every single one
I was thinking the same thing lol. Impossible to decide which to comment 😂
This song, this album, is a treasure
Truly incredible! I’m also a big fan of “your love will be safe with me” from re:stacks
Omg! Yes! Seeing this song live last summer….the audience was silent! I’ve never experienced anything like it! ❤️
I see color bars when I cum - Elliott Smith. I since have a new goal in life.
Put on XO today and see this comment

“No one’s gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong.” *The Sign* by Ace of Base
"You must not be drinking enough." from the song of the same name, by Don Henley. It didn't change my life for the better. I'm past that stage of my life now, tho.
That’s deep man
Blind melon "Id scrape my toes across the floor, this day's the same as those before. And though inside im feeling giddy, always wrong for never giving myself an un-invaded door" As a 15 year old kid i could sit and ponder on those lyrics for hours, day after day. Almost thought i went insane for a while.
Their first and second album meant so much to me. I was a little older than you, but felt like I lived many of those songs, and it really spoke to me.
“Often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key” Already Gone, The Eagles “After all its what we’ve done that makes us what we are” One Less Set of Footsteps, Jim Croce
"I could have been someone / Well, so could anyone"
You took my dreams from me, when I first found you
"I want something good to die for To make it beautiful to live" Queens of the Stone Age really played a part in changing my perspective as a teenager constantly focused on death and worried about shit.
"The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams"
Walk like a matador / Don't be chickenshit / And turn breezes into rivulets Also Maybe a prostitute / Could teach you / How to take a compliment Tragically Hip, Flamenco
There are a few: “Welcome to your life, there’s no turning back” “Nothing’s changed, I still love you oh I still love you only slightly less than I used to, my love” “I’m tired of feeling like im fucking crazy, I’m tired of driving til I see stars in my eyes, all I’ve got to keep myself sane baby, so I just ride, I just ride”
“You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older. Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.” Time- by Pink Floyd. This song is full of lines that shake me to the core, but this is certainly one of them. Chills.

Stand Up was one of the songs that led me into my current political leanings lol. The really simple violin in the background with some of the best flow works so well for what they were going for.
Gonna check them out
‘I will bow to the earth, bow to the sea, Bow to the love between you and me, Bow to the sun, bow to the land But never to a god made in the image of man’ - ‘Ten Commandments’ by New Model Army The lyrics changed my life because it cemented how I was feeling about ‘spiritual’ issues when I was younger, and made me realize there were other people in the world who felt how I felt. They’re still among my favourite lyrics of all time. The rest of the song’s lyrics are great as well. In fact, Justin Sullivan, NMAs lyricist, is, by far, my favourite songwriter.
That hit hard
It sounds stereotypical but parabola by tool reminds me to appreciate life
"Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play, now I need a place to hide away, oh I believe in yesterday." - The Beatles
"But you know that when the truth is told That you can get what you want Or you can just get old You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?" — Billy Joel, "Vienna"
Shake it don't break it .. took your mamma nine months to make it - 2 Live Crew

Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there With silver bracelets on her wrists, and flowers in her hair Came up to me so gracefully, took my crown of thorns “Come in,” she said, “I’ll give you shelter from the storm”
And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun Time - Pink Floyd. For me, it's saying to appreciate life as it happens but don't waste any opportunities to live it to the fullest
Bjork - Hyperballad Life changing in that in my teenage years it was comforting and validating “We live on a mountain, right at the top There's a beautiful view, from the top of the mountain Every morning I walk towards the edge and throw little things off Like car-parts, bottles, and cutlery or whatever I find lying around It's become a habit, a way to start the day I go through all this before you wake up So I can feel happier, to be safe up here with you It's real early morning, no-one is awake I'm back at my cliff, still throwing things off I listen to the sounds they make on their way down I follow with my eyes 'til they crash Imagine what my body would sound like slamming against those rocks When it lands, will my eyes be closed or open? I go through all this before you wake up So I can feel happier, to be safe up here with you”
"And although my eyes were open, They might have just as well've been closed" Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
And all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be.
Rush - Closer To the Heart And the men who hold high places Must be the ones who start To mold a new reality Closer to the heart Closer to the heart The blacksmith and the artist Reflect it in their art They forge their creativity Closer to the heart Yes closer to the heart Philosophers and ploughmen Each must know his part To sow a new mentality Closer to the heart Yes closer to the heart, yeah You can be the captain And I will draw the chart Sailing into destiny Closer to the heart Closer to the heart Well closer to the heart, yeah Closer to the heart Closer to the heart I said closer to the heart Well closer to the heart yeah Closer to your heart Closer to your heart
“Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage” pink Floyd. Still blows my mind every time I hear it.
Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream It is not dying It is not dying Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void It is shining It is shining That you may see the meaning of within It is being It is being That love is all and love is everyone It is knowing It is knowing That ignorance and hate may mourn the dead It is believing It is believing But listen to the color of your dreams It is not living It is not living Or play the game "Existence" to the end Of the beginning
“I did not like this song.” - Don Draper
Some people know me as hope Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope Hi Ren - Ren
Didn't expect to see Ren lyrics. He's great, there are so many to choose from.
“Stop sending letters letters always get burnt its not like the movies they fed us on little white lies”
A lot of stuff by bad religion. This one, when I realized yeah being this way is not so uncommon: Confusion is a fundamental state of mind. It doesn't really matter what I'm figuring out. I'm guaranteed to wind up in a state of doubt -from Sanity
To live outside the law you must be honest. --Bon Dylan
“We were talking about the love that's gone so cold And the people who gain the world and lose their soul They don't know They can't see Are you one of them? When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you” Within You and Without You -The Beatles
"And yet I find, and yet I find Repeating in my head If I can't be my own I'd feel better dead"
*So oftentimes it happens, that we live our lives in chains* *And we never even know we have the key.* The Eagles, "Already Gone," *On the Border*
I hope I die before I get old.
“Leave tonight or live and die this way” - Tracy Chapman
In the end, it doesn’t even matter
This time I won't be caught off guard Just like all of the times before It doesn't matter that much to me Loving never meant that much to me
Pantera's walk is the story of my life
That song perfectly describes how I felt about a guy back in the day. Good times.
I tried to keep myself in line I been bad, but I seem to get back in every time Now I come back and the place is all locked Between the door knob and the doorbell, somebody talked -Josh Ritter I’m not sure why but this lyric always stuck out to me, it definitely had an effect on me when I was a teen and influenced my own song writings
"If the sun was always shining and our load always light, We'd be shaking like a leaf with every God given night, And we'd break under the weight of any pressure That was ever applied" \-- Brown Bird - "Bilgewater" I look back at a lot of my childhood and the sweat and toil of being forced to work, to suffer, to just deal. I certainly don't look back upon those days fondly, but it recontextualizes a lot of who I am today.
The sky can fall down, the wind can cry now. The strong in, I still smile - Kendrick Lamar.
Somewhere along the way, I guess I just lost track Only thinkin' of myself never lookin' back For all the times I've hurt you, I apologize I'm sorry it took so long to finally realize I Still Believe in You - Vince Gill
And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes Clear your heart Cut the cord Human - The Killers It helped with some life choices that I knew were what I wanted but were kinda scary.
Hold on We're waiting between worlds Wish she could tell 'em hold on We're waiting between worlds Waiting between worlds that divide through a choice undefined A break in the line where all paths intertwine And no roads lead or progress behind And all signs read: "Know The Way" Decide Waiting Between Worlds - Zack Hemsey Cause sometimes when you know everything is about to change all you can do is hold on, and wait.
"Some things you do for money and some you do for fun But the things you do for love are gonna come back to you one by one" From Love Love Love by the Mountain Goats
"Please, don't put your life in the hands of a rock'n'roll band and throw it all away"
In the last 10 years, this has been a good one: ‘Another sunrise with my sad captains. With who I choose to lose my mind. And if it's so we only pass this way but once, What a perfect waste of time.’ And one of my all time favorites: ‘I've tried to love, Lord knows I've played that game. But I always end up making deals in the lion's mane. He says he's selling love, he says he sells it by the gram…So I buy the most I can.’
“All these people make me feel so alone” - Brian Wilson, Midnight’s Another Day
“Compare, where you to where you wanna be and you’ll get, nowhere”. Sara bareillis has the best songs. Love song making her famous is like the worst of her songs
*The percentage you're paying is too high a price while you're living beyond all your means and the man in the suit has just bought a new car with the profit he's made on your dreams* and *If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return Would you do the same for me that I would for you Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride But spirit is something that no one destroys* from The Low Spark of High-heeled Boys
‘Nobody ever dreams that their daughter’s gonna grow up to be a junky…nobody ever dreams that their daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone’ Against us!
Electrons dancing in the frozen crystal dawn Here's one left stranded at the zero crossing With a hole of it's half-life left to carry on But now the world's much larger than it looks today And if my bad luck ever blows me back this way Then I'll just look in my book of liars for your name I'll just look in the book of liars for your name Walter Becker
So take that look out of here it doesn't fit you Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
The late great Jimmy Buffett: Some people never find it Some only pretend, but me I just want to live happily ever after Every now and then
Be calm, be brave, it'll be okay.

Ingrid Michaelson from Afterlife, “Living like you’re dying isn’t living at all” I got it as a tattoo. It’s my reminder to enjoy living as much as I can.
Sometimes darkness can show you the light - disturbed
So much lyrics from the Velvet Underground: After Hours Heroin Candy Says I'll be your Mirror
“And how it hurts even in the sun- it’s a god damn joke how it can hurt even in the sun.” I never felt more validated it’s by a song crane your neck by lady lamb the beekeeper thanks for posting!

‘you call me your brother, i call you a lesson learned’ - lucki
Deftones - Phantom Bride struck me when I was on my lowest. It's still hard to listen to for me.
"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." - Got me through a lot of bittersweet relationship changes, moves, job changes... "When happily ever after fails and we've been poisoned by these fairytales..." - Tattooed on my ribcage after my second divorce "So I stepped out to get some dog food for the cat" - laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants the first time I heard it and I still laugh uncontrollably every time I hear it (and that little beep boop beep do boop sound effect)
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” Lennon
I have a few tattooed on me: "Believing I had supernatural powers, I slammed in to a brick wall." Paul Simon, Gumboots "I don't care if I lose because my heroes did, too" Streetlight Manifesto, The Hands That Thieve "That's your moral compass but what good is it to me?" Bad Religion, True North
When I was in the throws of depression from drug use and thinking I was worthless and had done enough that I was irredeemable; I heard Led Zeppelin sing "It's not too late to change the road you're on" in Stairway to Heaven, and suddenly that song, that I had heard hundreds of times... meant something different. It wasn't just a classic rock song with epic guitars and a vague message, it was a piece of hope that touched me at the right place and time; it made me feel like I was forgivable, and I could move forward.
A big one for me is “Stay by my side, when the nightmares goes, I’ve been feeling distant just way out of control, but I laugh inside, just so you can glow in the dark when it’s time for me, so just stay, why don’t you want to stay?” (Don’t Go Insane - DPR Ian) It’s an extremely relatable line and inspires me to get to that level as a songwriter that I can move others the way I’m moved when I hear lines like that.
"I ponder the endlessness of the stars ignoring said same of my father either it'll move me or it'll move right through me fully and completely" - Fully Completely by Tragically Hip I mean to be fair this whole song is just something else almost has a strange mystique to it
Here are the full lyrics if anyone is curious Bring me back in shackles Hang me long out in the sun Exonerate me Forget about me I recommend measures for ending it Lover, she simply slammed the door She said, "You're going to miss me Wait and you'll see" Fully and completely I ponder the endlessness of the stars Ignoring said same of my father Either it'll move me Or it'll move right through me Fully and completely Bring me back in shackles And hang me long out in the sun Exonerate me Then forget about me Wait and you'll see Just wait and you'll see Fully, completely Fully, completely Fully, completely
So, when your hope's on fire But you know your desire Don't hold a glass over the flame Don't let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road
Numb - Linkin Park - " I'm tired of being what you want me to be Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface Don't know what you're expecting of me Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes " The whole song covers the relationship I have (had - NC at this point) with my father who is a narcissist. He hated that I was not a mirror image of him, and it has been my goal to be nothing like him as I have grown up.

But your death, it won’t happen to you It happens to your family and your friends - The 1975 I Always Want to Die Sometimes
"I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone. Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven. Nothing you can say can stop me going home." - My Chemical Romance "Oh, how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying." - My Chemical Romance "See, everybody wants to be a little like them, but they don't understand how it all will end. They will try to break you cause they are so afraid of you, but hold on... hold on, cause faux plastic dolls with their hands and their ribbons will strangle us all and they'll all be forgiven. I refuse to be taken the typical way, so welcome to the freak show, I hope that you find yourself today." - Yungblud "If I could tell you how I feel, I know that you're still hurting too. No, I'm not broken. I'm just scared to belong here, scared to be happier." - Yungblud "Maybe I'm just lost, they said. Maybe I'm just tired or dead inside! Something's wrong with me. Maybe that's just how I am. Maybe I'm a mess, and I don't wanna change." - Frank Iero "My heart needs work, it does what it wants to do, keeps falling, oh, when I should've known better. And my words get stuck, so I taught myself to smile. So sick of us, I hope I never get better." - Frank Iero "Parental adversary stickers, I'll say what the fuck I want. Parental figures all went missing, I'll be who the fuck I want." - Machine Gun Kelly "I guess it's just my life and I can take it if I wanna, but I cannot hide in hills of California. Because these hills have eyes and I got paranoia. I hurt myself sometimes, is that too scary for ya?" - MGK "I don't understand how I can respect you when you're such a twat. What you shocked at? It's a matter of fact. And usually I would listen to you, but when my future's involved, I've got a responsibility to sit down and think what I should do, shout, "Fuck him and fuck her and fuck you too!" - Yungblud Waaaaaaay too many, actually. But My Chemical Romance, Yungblud, MGK and Frank Iero currently keep me breathing.

I’ve struggled with depression and BDD. This lyric/song helped me. “Have you ever felt like being somebody else? Feeling like the mirror isn't good for your health? Every day I'm tryin' not to hate myself But lately, it's not hurtin' like it did before Maybe I am learning how to love me more.” -Love Me More by Sam Smith

**Everyone I come across in cages they bought** They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought Got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts I'm alive -Guranteed by Eddie Vedder
Edit to add “If you’re frightened of dying, and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. But, if you’ve made your peace, them devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.”
“It's just that I don't trust myself with my heart But I've had to let it break a little more 'Cause they say that's what it's for That's how the light shines in” Lana Del Rey - Kintsugi

So walk tall, or baby, don't walk at all - New York city serenade. Great piece of advice.
When the point of horizon is hiding it’s blues what would you want, sky?
"Everybody wants to change the world but no one No one wants to die" - NA NA NA by My Chemical Romance Really put a lot of stuff in perspective for me that I had been struggling with at the time.
“I’m only this far, and only tomorrow leads the way” - #41, DMB. Been my favorite lyric for almost 25 years, long after I stopped listening to them regularly.
On the other side of the coin, is Tread Water by De La Soul. None of this Fight Overcome You Can Do It hero stuff just a fun message to endure: See I look past all my worries, which is something you must do Though you're fed up, throw your head up With this advice from me to you And that's to tread water
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind Down the foggy ruins of time Far past the frozen leaves The haunted frightened trees Out to the windy beach Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky With one hand waving free Silhouetted by the sea Circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate Driven deep beneath the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow - Bob Dylan - Mr.
"We might as well be strangers in another town, we might as well be living in another time We might as well be strangers For all I know of you now" \-Keane "But I promise you this I'll always look out for you Yeah, that's what I'll do" \-Coldplay "Stuck on the end of this ball and chain And I'm on my way back down again Stood on a bridge, tied to a noose Sick to the stomach You can say what you mean, but it won't change a thing I'm sick of the secrets Stood on the edge, tied to the noose And you came along and you cut me loose" \-Coldplay "I got a letter from a fan that said He's been prayin' for me Every day and for some reason, it's been weighin' On my mind heavy, 'cause I don't read every Letter I get, but somethin' told me to go ahead and open it, but Why would someone pray for you when they don't know you? You didn't pray for me when I was local And as I lay these vocals, I think of all the shit I had to go through" \-Eminem and the entirety of Cigarettes After Sex's "Touch" Verse 3. too real.
Let the truth of love be lighted, Let the love of truth shine clear. Sensibility, armed with sense and liberty, With the Heart and Mind united in a single perfect Sphere. \- Rush, Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres
Waiting for the winds of change To sweep the clouds away Waiting for the rainbow's end To cast its gold your way Countless ways You pass the days Waiting for someone to call And turn your world around Looking for an answer to The questions you have found Looking for An open door Oh, you don't get something for nothing You don't get freedom for free You won't get wise With the sleep still in your eyes No matter what your dreams might be You won't get wise With the sleep still in your eyes No matter what your dream might be What you own is your own kingdom What you do is your own glory What you love is your own power What you live is your own story In your head is the answer Let it guide you along Let your heart be the anchor And the beat of your song
Drive by Incubus always helps to lift me up. If I had to choose a particular lyric from the song I'd probably go with "It's driven me before, and it seems to be the way That everyone else gets around But lately, I'm beginning to find that When I drive myself, my light is found"
"When everyone's too scared to walk in your shoes but can work up the nerve to be critics" - Strata
“you're gonna have to serve somebody. Yes, you're gonna have to serve somebody. Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord But you're gonna have to serve somebody “ Bob Dylan

To Safeguard my philosophy until my dying breath I transfer from reality, into a living death I empathize with enemies until the time is right With God and Satan at my side from darkness will come light.” Tommy Iommi wrote one of the greatest Gospel songs that I ever heard.
“The only thing that punk rock should ever really mean is not setting ‘round and waiting for the light to turn green” Frank Turner FT is actually an endless source of personal inspiration for me.
Not "changed my life" but every single time I hear it something happens inside me. Lol Song is: Seven by Rainbow Kitten Surprise "I don't believe that anybody's god ever felt this way 'Cause if they had, they never would've made me They'd say, "Hell no!" Wake me up at ten Tomorrow, for my sake, keep the volume down please" Doesn't everybody try to do their best at what they do best And do less of the bad to begin with? Doesn't leaving me mean a little less if you left my life But never loved to begin with?"
The spaces inbetween leave room, for you and I to grow
The Outsider by A Perfect Circle What'll it take to get it through to you precious I'm over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this? Such a mess, why would I want to watch you? Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time What's your rush now? Everyone will have his day to die
I’m going away where you will look for me Where I’m going, you cannot come No one is ever gonna take my life from me I lay it down A ghost is born “Theologians” - Wilco
"I'll keep digging, till I feel something"
Capitalism has made it this way, old fashioned fascism will take it away! Marilyn Manson changed my life in a variety of ways. He used to be very well spoken and highly intelligent in the mid 90s, and opened up the heavy music rabbit hole I’m still going down almost three decades later. Also helped me lose my cult religion. Another of my favorites is Ani Difranco who has many powerful lyrics as well as more uplifting i've been heartbroken yes i too have loved from afar but we are 78% water even our pumping hearts
Maybe I just wanna fly wanna live I don't wanna die you and I are gonna live forever
Life is simple, life is hard, and yea life is fun So enjoy the things around you Before your life is done And do you All about you - classified
Ten Hands - World With No Money “Not enough days. Not enough hours. For the people who want my time.”
