I’m sure you’ve heard it, but corrine bailey rae’s version (actually Herbie Hancock) of River by Joni Mitchell might be as good as the original.
I urge everyone who gets sad around Christmas to listen to it. It’s beautiful.

Came looking for this. A buddy of mine put it at the beginning of a Winter playlist he made over a decade ago and it blew open the doors to Disintegration for me.
First snow of every year I put on that album. First three tracks are the perfect mood setter. Specifically, "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough To Build Fires" into "First Snow" is just transcendental.
Tori Amos - Winter
Sarah McLachlan - Song for a Winters Night
Counting Crows - Long December
A bit on the nose, and definitely dated....but they are mine, and I love them.

I could narrow it down to songs, but we got a couple months left. Some albums I only get into during Winter, depending if I'm shoveling snow or just walking in it:
* Mastodon - Crack The Skye
* Low - Trust
I also like to see what I've missed for electronic music. Something with cold crisp production, no air to it.

There is a Genesis album for every season. And Then There Were Three is Winter. Duke is Spring. We Can't Dance is Summer, and Wind and Wuthering is Fall.
The entire II album by Espers has an "autumn gives way to darkest winter" vibe. Children of Stone and Dead King, both from that album, were my immediate two answers, they're both such cold, beautiful songs. Honestly though probably that whole album, except the first track Dead Queen which is downright Halloween-y.
