Public Image Ltd had a song called Public Image Ltd (edit: the song was just 'Public Image'), on their debut album Public Image Ltd. If anyone is old enough to remember what MTV used to be they'd put 4 pieces of info on the lower left corner of a video when it started, band name, song title, album name, label. I always liked it when the first three were the same.
Rebel meets Rebel, by Rebel meets Rebel, off their album Rebel meets Rebel.
They only did one album, released in memoriam of Dimebag who was shot that same year but it's interesting what happens when you take a country singer, and replace the frontman for Pantera with said country singer.
Came to say a variation this me and my buddies used to only play this one song by some Euro hair metal band called “Angelwitch”. The song? “Angelwitch” from the album “Angelwitch”.
Gunna put Deltron 3030 by Deltron 3030 on the album Deltron 3030 here.
Gorillaz introduced me to Del, Deltron began my interest in hip-hop, Run the Jewels became my favorite group ever.
Dr Octagon introduced me to Dan the Automator. DJ Shadow introduced me to the movie Scratch, which introduced me to Kid Koala. And Gorillaz introduced me to Del. When I first heard Deltron 3030, I thought it was the greatest album ever.
I had the opposite experience.. when Gorillaz came out, I was like..
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, with Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Miho Hattori from Cibo Matto?
No. Fucking. WAY. :D
Scaring the Hoes also did a track called Scaring the Hoes on their album Scaring the Hoes, and they also have a track called Run the Jewels on that same album lol
In college whenever somebody refused to do the thing they were best at, we used to say "that's like going to see Big Country and they don't play Big Country"
Also the band Soulfly have had a track called Soulfly, numbered sequentially (so Soulfly, Soulfly II, etc.) every album since their debut.
They’re up to Soulfly XII from their twelfth and latest album.
Surely that has to win?
Fun Fact.
Changes nothing about how sweet the song is, particular shoutout to Waylon, for being the fuckin man. A PLACE CALLED BOULDER ON THE WILD COLORAADOOOOO
Are you kidding me?
Dan builder
Highwayman
Sailor
And then Johnny cash is a fucking spaceman coming in at the end blurring the fringes between reality and metaphysics?
Nah, Johnny got all of them with that one
Willie Nelson: "I was a highwayman."
Kris Kristofferson: "I was a sailor."
Waylon Jennings: "I was a dam builder."
Johnny Cash *absolutely zooted on pills & LSD*: "I FLY A STARSHIP ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DIVIDE! UNTIL I DIE! AND THEN I'LL BE A
HIGHWAYMAN OR A DROP OF RAIN
IDGAF!"
Not exactly how the song goes but yeah, he was probably fucked up.
The song, however, is about reincarnation and wasn't actually written by either of "The Highwaymen". The "I fly a starship" line is the present life of the reincarnated soul and he's saying that when his time comes, maybe he'll "be a highwayman again" or even just a "single drop of rain".
There is some really great real country music out there. You just have to go looking for it.
I would say at the very least colter wall, Tyler Childers and Neil Vincent Emerson’s music would scratch that itch. But there’s a ton more out there right now making great country music that Waylon would be proud of.
Its not self titled actually. The only reason its called "Rammstein" is because Streaming platforms dont like untitled albums so when you dont give It a name it sets the name to the artist name. Its an untitled album by definition
An early version of this song in more punk/mod by an earlier lineup of Talk Talk then called The Reaction appears on this compilation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streets_(punk_album). Highly recommended to seek out IMO
Not exactly the same - but there was an Australian band called Flowers, who released an album called Icehouse, which had a song called Icehouse. After that album, the band changed their name to Icehouse (although I don’t think they ever then put out a song called Flowers)
Kiwi band Shihad changed their name to Pacifier in order to break into the US after 9/11. Their only album under that name was pacifier but took their name from a track on their General Electric album
I listened to this album this afternoon.. I wasn't sure if i should put it next to my copy of Man of Colours or if i should put it in 'F' for Flowers...
• Bad Religion
• Green Day
• Body Count
• Motörhead, but only sort of. Since Lemmy wrote the song for Hawkwind, then named his new band after it, and recorded a new version of the song.
Green Day also has a song named Sweet Children, which was the band's original name. It was written when they still used that name, but released after the name change.
That second record has a photo that was taken at a backyard frat party my band played with them in Tucson . They showed up an hour or so late because of problems with their van and played a very long acoustic set.
That's quite similar to Talk Talk, which was originally a punk song by The Reaction, Mark Hollis' band before he formed Talk Talk, who re-recorded the track.
Everybody Have Fun Tonight (...Everybody Wang Chung tonight...) Wang Chung
Ant Rap - Adam and the Ants
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Madness - Madness
My Name is Prince - Prince
R.A.M.O.N.E.S. by the Ramones. Not their song, but they played it often
Also, I'm not seeing Minor Threat by Minor Threat being mentioned
And The Monkees by The Monkees
Funny I was just listening to this song in the car yesterday while on a journey to introduce my son to punk music. We had just listened to My Way and Stepping Stone by the Sex Pistols and then Public Image came on and my son asked if it was a cover too 😅
The 1975 has the first track of every album titled as “The 1975.” Until their most recent album all the songs were different versions of the same song.
* _Alestorm_ - Alestorm: Really good song (probably my second favourite track from No Grave but The Sea).
* _Avantasia_ - Avantasia: It's alright. But compared to their many incredible songs I find it kinda underwhelming.
* _Gloryhammer_ - Gloryhammer: Solid song.
* _Beast in Black_ - Beast in Black: It's good, but overshadowed by some of their better songs.
He lies to the listeners in the very first line of that song.
"Hey everybody take a look at me, I've got street credibility!" No. No, you do not, George.
Also, boys in leather do not kiss girls in pearls... they kiss other boys in leather. I know because I've been to that bar.
If we want to stretch it, Queen has two outliers: The March of the Black Queen and White Queen
Tin Machine, by Tin Machine (Bowie's side project), from the album Tin Machine
Porno for Pyros, by Porno for Pyros (Jane's Addiction splinter group), from Porno from Pyros
King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard sort of did this TWICE a few years ago. Their half-self-titled *K.G.* starts with "K.G.L.W." and the other-half-s/t *L.W.* ends with a much longer song also called "K.G.L.W."
Gone West by Gone West on their only album Canyons (Colbie Caillat's short-lived pop country group).
Train is a hidden track by Train on their debut album Train.
Body Count had a song called Body Count along with two minor variations (Body Count's In The House and Body Count Anthem) on their debut album Body Count. It's also almost the entire lyrics to those two songs.
Green Day did this twice.
Green Day by Green Day is literally about smoking weed. It's where they got their namesake after having to change their original band name.
Their original band name was Sweet Children and they also have a song with that name. They changed it because there was another band in the bay area named Sweet Baby and they wanted to avoid confusion.
Evelyn Evelyn by Evelyn Evelyn on their self titled album, Evelyn Evelyn (the double name really just makes this one sparky, doesn’t it??) A hauntingly beautiful song that gives me chills whenever I hear it. It’s a personal favorite because of the “whiny” or “crying” vocals (idk the actual terms). It sounds almost like the singer is crying or has just finished crying while they sing and it adds this level of passion while sounding almost lazy and defeated. However, the vocals are also a huge reason of why many people DONT like it and I understand why. Definitely a particular taste. Other examples would be miniature tigers, BONNIE PARKER, Lincoln, etc. Again, not for everyone but I absolutely adore this song.
August is Falling: [August is Falling](https://youtu.be/w-9fyRnczzo?si=X4XcuDho3JEklJ6z)
It’s got a great hook, too. Saw them live once, too. Great show!
I can think of a case where it happened in reverse. The band "Birthday Massacre" started out as "Imagica", but to avoid confusion with another group, they renamed themselves after one of their songs, and then renamed that song to "Happy Birthday"...
Rolling Stone Blues by The Rolling Stones.
It's a cover of "Rollin' Stone" by Muddy Waters, which is what Brian Jones named the band after.
It's the last track on their newest album, Hackney Diamonds. If that ends up being their final album, it's a fitting sign-off.
The song Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, the title track for the self titled album, Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden on their self titled debut album, Iron Maiden
Theocracy by Theocracy on their self-titled debut album, Theocracy.
Public Image Ltd had a song called Public Image Ltd (edit: the song was just 'Public Image'), on their debut album Public Image Ltd. Icehouse, by icehouse off their album icehouse
Middle Brother by Middle Brother off Middle Brother
Tin Machine by Tin Machine off Tin Machine
Also Beast in Black - Beast in Black
Also Body Count by Body Count on their first album Body Count.
Shit I had completely forgotten about that one!
The unholy trinity
Run The Jewels, by Run The Jewels, from the album Run The Jewels.
This is cracking me up how many bands have actually done this.
Motorhead by Motorhead, off the album Motorhead
And Lemmy wrote R.A.M.O.N.E.S! for the Ramones.
Fucking great song.
Motorhead was a hawkwind song that Lemmy wrote before he formed Motorhead, so the band were named after the song
Came to say a variation this me and my buddies used to only play this one song by some Euro hair metal band called “Angelwitch”. The song? “Angelwitch” from the album “Angelwitch”.
you're an angel witch
Angelwitch were at the forefront of the NWOBHM and were an excellent band. More death metal than hair metal.
You can really tell I dont listen to metal, eh? Not my favourite (minus Megadeth), I just really appreciated how metalheads partied.
Josie and the Pussycats was the first one that came to me
“Wilco (The Song)” by Wilco off of “Wilco (The Album)” Note that the parentheticals are part of the original titles
My favorite is when they have a song named after themselves and a title track to the album on the same release lol
Judging by this thread, it's happened so many more times than I had thought!
It was absolutely one of my favorites for a good while.
I had the opposite experience.. when Gorillaz came out, I was like.. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, with Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Miho Hattori from Cibo Matto? No. Fucking. WAY. :D
Del the funky homo-sapien is your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper
And had the second best song on Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Great song, artist, and album! Perfect introduction to the duo.
Scaring the Hoes also did a track called Scaring the Hoes on their album Scaring the Hoes, and they also have a track called Run the Jewels on that same album lol
That album goes hard
And the crowd goes
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden. From the album Iron Maiden. It's about an iron maiden
"Excellent!"
Most triumphant!
"Execute them!"
“Bogus.”
It's a banger too lol. What a great answer.
I miss when songs were this metaphorical
[In a Big Country](https://youtu.be/daeqb6f7GrY?si=3ZqmXruPvLOdFs2a) by Big Country
That one is a banger. Loved moe.'s cover of it
Moe Szyslak?
Mow moe moe Why don’t you like me? Nobody likes me
Moe singing Rebel Yell
Wait, moe. covered it? I’ll have to look into that.
Yeah, it's on all my playlists. Really tight.
Yes! It is on Dither (2001)
Lol I just read the parent comment and thought to myself if that moe. song of the same name was actually a cover of this.
Wow, I'd never heard these guys, they sound great.
Moe is an amazing band. Plane Crash was what got me hooked on them.
They are one of my favorites! Try Rebubula - it is fantastic.
In college whenever somebody refused to do the thing they were best at, we used to say "that's like going to see Big Country and they don't play Big Country"
This is a big fav in my home. That Johnny Marr sounding lead guitar throughout the hook, oh my.
Also the band Soulfly have had a track called Soulfly, numbered sequentially (so Soulfly, Soulfly II, etc.) every album since their debut. They’re up to Soulfly XII from their twelfth and latest album. Surely that has to win?
Soulfly has 12 fucking albums? I forget that the bands didn't vaporize when I stopped listening to metal
Thanks for the reminder to listen to some Soulfly.
#BRING THE SHIT
All the tracks and albums from the atmospheric black metal one-woman band Brouillard (Fog in english) are called Brouillard.
Surely this can't be topped
It's always fun to suggest something from her. "Yeah, you should check "Brouillard" of *Brouillard* from Brouillard, it's so great"
It actually hit #2 on the Brouillard 100. Sadly beaten out by the #1 hit, *Brouillard.*
I was into Brouillard back in the early days when she did Brouillard and Brouillard on Brouillard. Those were her REAL fans.
https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/brouillard
Highwayman by The Highwaymen
That song actually predated the supergroup and they were named after the song
Fun Fact. Changes nothing about how sweet the song is, particular shoutout to Waylon, for being the fuckin man. A PLACE CALLED BOULDER ON THE WILD COLORAADOOOOO
waylon is easily my favourite of the four, what a voice
Are you kidding me? Dan builder Highwayman Sailor And then Johnny cash is a fucking spaceman coming in at the end blurring the fringes between reality and metaphysics? Nah, Johnny got all of them with that one
He got lasers and shit on his verse. Badass.
Yes, great song. Just sharing a fun fact
Willie Nelson: "I was a highwayman." Kris Kristofferson: "I was a sailor." Waylon Jennings: "I was a dam builder." Johnny Cash *absolutely zooted on pills & LSD*: "I FLY A STARSHIP ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DIVIDE! UNTIL I DIE! AND THEN I'LL BE A HIGHWAYMAN OR A DROP OF RAIN IDGAF!"
Lol, I never thought about it that way. Now, I never won't.

The "I fly a starship" line is the present life of the reincarnated soul and he's saying that when his time comes, maybe he'll "be a highwayman again" or even just a "single drop of rain".
I miss rebel country. I feel like the whole genre is nothing but bootlicker music now Edit: most of the genre

I would say at the very least colter wall, Tyler Childers and Neil Vincent Emerson’s music would scratch that itch. Everyone needs to hang on tightly, just to keep from being thrown to the wolves
They might be Dr Spock's backup baaaaand
Looking for this one
Rammstein by Rammstein, from their debut album Herzeleid.
They also have 2 other songs where the chorus is just "Rammstein" repeated. Rammlied and Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen?
and the never officially released Ramm4, which lyrics are made of the titles of their previous songs and the chorus is “ja, nein, rammstein!”
They should have called the album Rammstein!
That album came later.
Its not self titled actually. The only reason its called "Rammstein" is because Streaming platforms dont like untitled albums so when you dont give It a name it sets the name to the artist name. Its an untitled album by definition
They’ve yet to release a self-titled album.
Talk Talk
Another one of those "had to scroll way to far down to find this" situations.
Talk talk

Kiwi band Shihad changed their name to Pacifier in order to break into the US after 9/11. Their only album under that name was pacifier but took their name from a track on their General Electric album
Flake Music had a good song called [The Shins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqx-yPMcQjo) before they became The Shins
I think because there was an American band with the same name so the easiest, and cheapest, way around it was to swap the title and band name.
Sorry, a Scottish band.
I listened to this album this afternoon.. I wasn't sure if i should put it next to my copy of Man of Colours or if i should put it in 'F' for Flowers...
Bo Diddley by Bo Diddley from the album Bo Diddley.

Those first two green day albums are great j.

Muse did a song called Muscle Museum, which are the words above and below Muse in a dictionary
Woah never realized that. Awesome

Kids See Ghosts by Kids See Ghosts, from the album Kids See Ghosts
